Attempting to import many CDs - getting "disk is full" error msg!!

I am SO frustrated with not being able to add to my library from my CDs, since iTunes can't convert the WMA library I had nearly 3,500 songs in!! I have deleted much of the stuff in my Windows Media library to open up room on my hard disk, but this doesn't seem to make iTunes any happier!! How can I add to my library without having to lose most of my other saved music? Is there a place to open up more space on my hard drive?

While I do realize I should back everything up (and I was given a zip drive, but haven't installed it yet!), my issue is that I have 256MB of RAM, and was able to download the 3,500 songs into Windows Media with no problem. With iTunes, however, I haven't even downloaded 200 songs, and I'm getting this "The disk you are attempting to use is full...delete some of your files and empty your recycle bin." This seems ridiculous!! I have been told by many people that iTunes is SO much better than Windows Media, but I can't get a count on the number of files I have, I don't have the ability (that I'm aware of) to redirect the import function to accept my available disk space, and I have about 350 CDs to import!! PLEASE, someone help me!! Thanks!!

  • I am getting "Disk is Full" errors

Yesterday we starting getting "Disk is Full" errors on our 1TB iMac.  We have approximately 100GB of music, photos, etc., as well as the operating system and Office.  It does not seem as if this should fill up the disk.  In looking at the activity monitor, it shows that 999GB is in use, with 1GB free (approximately).  While I was watching the activity monitor, it went from 1.7 GB free down to 1GB, while nothing was being (intentionally) downloaded.  Virusbarrier did a full sweep and returned no threats; spotlight turned up no files added or modified yesterday to help identify where the space is being used.  Any hints on what is causing this?  Any tips on how to locate where these supposed "files" are being saved?

Use a tool such as OmniDiskSweeper to explore your volume and find out what's taking up the space.
Proceed further only if the problem hasn't been solved.
ODS can't see the whole filesystem when you run it just by double-clicking; it only sees files that you have permission to read. To really see everything, you have to run it as root.
First, back up all data if you haven't already done so. No matter what happens, you should be able to restore your system to the state it was in at the time of that backup.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    sudo /Applications/OmniDiskSweeper.app/Contents/MacOS/OmniDiskSweeper
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
I don't recommend that you make a habit of this. Don't delete anything while running ODS as root. When you're done with it, quit it and also quit Terminal.

  • Just purchased Adobe Element 10 and when I try to import music I get an "Add Media Error"

When I try to import music I get an "Add Media Error" error message "The importer reported a generic error"

Are you working with both iPhoto and Aperture at the same time? If you have to maintain several iPhoto libraries in addition to your Aperture library you would profit considerably from updating to Aperture 3.4.
Aperture and iPhoto now share a uniform library format and you can easily switch between both applications when viewing a photo library.
Aperture 3 can run with 4 GB RAM, but would be better with more. If your mac is not maxed out with 4GB, you should consider to add RAM, since you are running Mt. Lion. All other apps wil profit from more RAM too.
I cannot test the interaction between iPhoto 9.4 and Aperture 2, since I have only Aperture 3 installations.
I am a little reluctant because i have only 4 gig of ram and have read numerous negative reports.
There are many happy Aperture 3 users, but people are only posting here, when they are temporarily unhappy. So you will get a distorted view.
The new version is out for only a few days, and Apple has the first bugs to fix. I'd wait a little, if you can, until the next release is out.

  • Error "get disk space file error" to install patch p158 to FM 7.2

I have Adobe FM 7.2 with the Patch B144 on Windows 7 x64 and when I try to install the new patch AdobeFrameMaker7_2p158Patcher.exe I get the error "get disk space file error" and the window freeze.

    > I have Adobe FM 7.2 with the Patch B144 on Windows 7 x64 and ...
I'm surprised that FM7 even runs native in Win7. I would expect various random problems during FM ops, and a complete inability to reliably use the Acrobat/Distiller5 that came with FM7 (although a later version of Acrobat/Distiller, separately installed, might work, esp. if using a Print-to-Ps-and-Distill workflow).
You need to install FM7 inside a virtual machine. There are several solutions (e.g. Virtual Box) for that, some of which require that the CPU have hardware virtualization. Most AMD chips do. It's often fused-off, however, on low end Intel chips (just because you didn't pay enough).
I've built a Win7 Pro64 PC, and run FM7 in XP Mode (a virtual machine that is a complete instance of Windows XP/32, and not to be confused with Compatibility Mode). XP Mode is a free download from Microsoft, still available, but only for Windows 7 Enterprise, Professional and Ultimate (not Basic, Home or not-so-Premium). Note: XPM is not supported on Windows 8, 8.1 or 10. You'll need a 3rd-party VM for that (and you'll probably have to install your own copy of XP in any 3rd party VM).
If your chip is AMD, there's a hotfix patch (KB 2519949 as I recall) you need to install before you do anything else about XPM. This patch is not included in any of the 200+ Windows Updates that a virtualized XP wants you to install, in several waves (yes, this takes a while).
    And from a related discussion:
    >> Microsoft no longer support WinXP, does it a risk to use it?
After you install XP in the VM, and apply all 200+ Windows Updates, and install the apps you need:
    disable the VM's networking capability*
or at the very least never use a browser inside the VM
if possible, let the AV software in the host OS access the VM's virtual drive
MS is going to EOL Windows 7 in 2015Q2 as well.
    * For some apps, the networking would need to be on periodically for license validation.

i am running indesign cs3 ver 5.0.3 and i have installed the update patch. just finished an ad, went to save, and received this error message:<br /><br />cannot save <filename> under a new name. disk is full. (error code: 4)<br /><br />any ideas? i tried rebooting, deleting the preferences for indesign. i can't export it as anything else and i can't make a print ready pdf either .... any help would be greatly appreciated!

Seems obvious, but I wonder why you didn't mention it. Maybe your hard
disk is full, or close to it? Usually "disk is full" means just that.
Your computer needs a few gigabytes of free space all the time.
First thing I'd want to do is go to each hard disk, right-click, choose
Properties, then Disk Cleanup. This will get you enough space so you can
breathe a little. Then think about ways to get more room: either a new
hard disk or get some of the old stuff archived.

  • Random disconnects from Windows 7 Clients - Disk is full error

    Recently upgrade my XServe from 10.5.8 -> 10.6.6 -> 10.7.3 Server.
I have 6 Mac clients connecting to different sharepoints on the server with no issues at all after the upgrade.
I have 2 Windows 7 Home clients running QuickBooks attempting to connecting to their Accounting sharepoint on the server.  10.5.8 / 10.6.6 there were no issues with disconnects.  After upgrading to 10.7.3 Server and fixing the login issue, the Windows 7 clients can connect to the sharepoint.  But once or twice a day they are getting an error of "The disc or drive Z: is full." (I have the sharepoint mapped to drive Z on Windows 7).
The sharepoint is on a RAID and has over 1TB free storage.  The local hard drive in each Windows 7 client has 200-300 GB's free each.. so no drives are actually full.
    Is anybody else seeing this?
Their connections are wired.. Gig Ethernet.  This was not an issue previous to Lion Server.  Only started occuring after the "upgrade" this past Saturday.

  • Scratch disks are full error, so photoshop paused....

i received the scratch disks are full message while trying to save a large file. i hit okay, hoping there was enough space left to finish the save - alas, there wasn't.
i quickly deleted some larger unused files, but photoshop is still 'paused'. when opening up the force quit menu it reads "photoshop (paused)" - i know i'll probably have to force quit and lose all of my progress... however, now that there is 18+gb free, is there a way to resume, or unpause, photoshop so it can finish the save?

Hey. It's dicey at best, but you might be able to get out of it. If photoshop is still running, can you make a new document? If you can, hide photoshop, free up some space, then come back and make a tiny document, like 5x5 pixels. This will force a purge, and possibly let you deal with your important document. Since i don't hold a lot of hope for that working, here's a few tips to maybe avoid this in the future... Do you have more than one drive? If you don't, and you are doing any kind of serious photoshop work, you need to get one. This leads to the first rule: don't use your startup drive as a scratch disk. I have 3 other drives, each one set as a scratch, and the startup disk not specified at all. Another thing about PS's scratch system, is that it needs contiguous space to work properly. Another case for not using your startup volume, and also for getting an external, making it easier to defrag it once in a while.

  • Downloading Movie From ITunes- "Disk is full error"

I am trying to download a large file from the iTunes store and I keep getting an error saying it can't download because "the disk you are attempting to use is full." • 'Disk is full' error when saving to windows share

    All,
one of my user is using Macbook pro with office for mac 2011 installed on it. when ever user modifies a file from network share and tries to re-save them he gets the error saying 'disk is full'. the network share has around 800GB of free space and he has full permissions on the folder. the only workaround so far is saving it to desktop and replacing the file later which is not ideal for us. this is very annoying. any help would be appreciated. thanks

  • Start Up Disk is Full Error?

I am getting a pop-up message saying the above "Your start-up disk is full". Has anyone had this error message & what is a good solution? Last time this error message occurred I deleted some files I shouldn't have &... well, it wasn't pretty.

    Hi Charlotte and welcome!
In addition to SimonUK's excellent advice there are a few things that you can do to free up space depending on what Applications you use and what duplicates you might have.
For example, on my iBook, I have removed GarageBand from Applications and its Loops from HD/Library/Application Support. As my iBook only has a combo drive and I'm not into video editing anyway I have trashed iDVD & iMovie. (Not DVD player). I have also trashed preloaded games and World Book, and its associated files.
OS X comes with a vast library of printer drivers, the large proportion of which will never be used by the average user.
Printer drivers are in the HD/Library/Printers folder. You can safely delete any named drivers that you don't have a printer for. For example, if you have a Canon, you can remove Epson, Lexmark, Hewlett Packard & Brother drivers. Epson alone takes up close to 1gb. You can even remove specific drivers from within the manufacturer's folder. For example, if you have an Epson C86 you can safely trash any other specific drivers in the Epson folder like C46, C66 etc. If, at a later date, you buy a printer whose driver you removed they can be added from your install disk, the disk that comes with the printer or downloaded.
A word of warning: More cautious heads than mine advise against messing in the HD/Library, but if you stick to the examples above, i.e. GarageBand loops, World Book and printer drivers you will be OK.
Certainly, I have had no problems with my system after removing those examples.
Check, too, in your music folder. If you have 'Copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library' selected in iTunes preferences/Advanced it is possible that you have, say, 'xyz song' in the first level of your Music folder and the same song in Music/iTunes/iTunes Library. If you are sure that you do have 'xyz song' in iTunes, it is safe to delete from 'Music'. If you download music it is again possible that you have duplicates depending on where the music was downloaded to, e.g. Desktop, Music folder or Downloads folder. The same principle can apply to your Pictures folder and iPhoto Library, but staying with iTunes for a moment, with iTunes open select Edit in the menu bar, then 'Show duplicate songs'. You can trash duplicates if you are sure that they are true duplicates, i.e. exact name, artist and file size. Another little note of caution, neither iTunes nor iPhoto likes having its library messed with from within a Finder window. Resolve duplicates from within the respective application only.
Some excellent advice has been posted by ~JB~, with corresponding words of caution.
Dr Smoke has some advice here too.
Last but by no means least, when you have finished dumping your unwanted stuff in the trash, don't forget to empty it. You haven't regained the space until you do
…and definitely last this time: If in doubt leave it alone and ask!
    Have fun,
    Adrian
