Attempting to restore lost images

Twice, all of my photos have been completely wiped out from my Mac and I have never been able to recover them. Today I attempted something by myself and shouldn't have! I was using Disk Utility to attempt to restore the images. And I clicked on my "All Images" folder in the finder window to drag it over to the restore box. I have since learned that was NOT how to restore the lost images (I have never used Time Machine) and I still don't know how to restore them but I now know I was NOT in the right place!
But when I was messing around with it and clicked on the all images folder and drug it over to the disk utilities screen there was a little poof icon and then the folder was gone and I can't find it. Help??

Are you sure that there is not an Apple ID problem going on here?
I have never restored from an iCloud backup and I assume that you are in the process of setting up the new iPad and cannot get past this stumbling block of trying to restore from that backup. Is that a correct assumption? Or did you set up the iPad already and now you are trying to restore from the iPad backup?
What are the steps that you have gone through to this point on the new iPad?

Error Code 0x8087002B while attempting to restore image files

Dear all
My computer is unable to boot into Windows (7 Pro) - I get an error saying "Non-system disk or disk error" even though the BIOs has been configured to boot from the right hard disk. Thinking it may be an error in the disk, I attempted to restore
an image backup of the system files (this was from Backup and Restore, so it's a vhd file), using the Win7 installation disk, and have loaded the necessary network drivers (the vhd is stored in a network location). A few seconds after restoration of the image
began I received an error code 0x8078002B - unable to open one or more backup files.
I have checked Google for such an error code but all results were for 0x8078002A. I ran a check on the vhd file - I tried to mount it (read-only) on another computer, and ran chkdsk, but no errors were reported (I'm not even sure if that actually helps).
I was able to view the files inside the vhd as well. Can anyone enlighten me on this error code?
If it helps, before this issue happened, I believe there was a hardware issue (some DIMM error). I went online and one of the suggestions was to update my BIOs - the rationale was that the old firmware for the BIOs could give inaccurate error codes. I did
go to the manufacturer's website and downloaded the right .exe file to update my BIOs, but after the computer restarted the error "Non-system disk or disk error" appeared.

Generally speaking, Non-system or disk error means there is a problem with BCD file. To resolve this problem, you can try to make a startup repair with this problem.

Using Clonezilla to restore an image to a RAID0 setup

Hello all,
I'm trying to restore an image of my desktop Windows7 parition to my Windows7 partition on my W540 (Note: i have three windows7 licences so I can just activate under the laptop once I transfer the Desktop image).
The W540 is setup for hardware RAID, two 128GB drives which make a 256GB total drive (which I thought Clonezilla's docs says it supports hardware RAID)...
But when i boot up Clonezilla it can't find even find the RAID drive(s) so I'm not going to go further to attempt to restore the image.
Any idea if this is supported? I saw there is a way to add a driver to the Clonezilla boot cd. but seems like these are linux drivers? and not Intel Rapid Storage Technology windows7 drivers.
Anyway looking for some advice, I'd even settle for a way to do it where I'd have to delete the RAID volume via Intel RST be4 boot-time, adding it to a non-RAID disk, then converting to RAID0 afterwards.... just not sure thats possible... May just give it a try.

Is there any good reason you want to save such potentially enormous data in a database rather than the filesystem? You can just use mysql to pair the uploaded files with a specific user and keep it simple.

If you do decide to save it in a database then you literally just have PHP read the binary data and pass it directly through (with a proper image header) and Flash can load it like a regular image. It's literally MySQL Binary -> PHP -> Flash and it just shows up as the file type you designate.

Reinstalled Firefox and lost my bookmarks, attempted to restore, but is only giving me todays date.

I was on live chat with a Norton specialist and they deleted/reinstalled my Firefox so fast that I didn't even have time to ask him if he saved my bookmarks. When I did ask him about the bookmarks, he said he was not trained in Firefox, but that the bookmarks could be restored.
I've attempted to restore the bookmarks as directed, but they give me the current date 2/13/13(reinstall date) of which I don't have any bookmarks? How do I recover my bookmarks? Do I need to restore my pc to an earlier version?

Restoring .dmg image from external to Mac HD in Disk Utility: "Unable to scan image (Input/output error)"

Hi guys,
So I've got a problem with restoring the image backup I did (using Disk Utility) of my 500GB HD on my MBP which was acting weird or maybe even crashed a few months ago. After creating the backup image and putting it on my external device, I installed Mavericks back to see if everything was alright (mainly the HD) and everything seems okay.
I did try restoring the backup image through disk utility before installing mavericks (thus erasing everything again on the HD) AND after. But nothing..
The whole process starts fine and then it starts scanning the image when after maybe a good 10-15min in I get a message that says that it was unable to scan the image. I tried verifying the disk(s), everything came out "OK". Also tried scanning it through Images > Scan image for Restore... with the same results.
While searching I've seen people getting messages like "Unable to scan filename.dmg (Invalid argument)" and "Unable to scan filename.dmg
(Internal error)" but none have (Input/output error)

I also came across something about using terminal/commands but I'm not that savvy with it, especially considering that those there had issues with either mounting or trouble finding the image.
I've also tried moving the backup image to a different external device 2TB and also the desktop because I read it may have to do with the format of the externals or maybe free space. But THEN I would get a message saying
"The Finder can't complete the operation because some data in "Mac HD Backup.dmg" can't be read or written. Error code -36"
Fyi ALL my externals are HFS+/Journaled and the backup image format was compressed.
I REALLY don't know what to do next. Was it the wrong move to create a dmg image? Have I lost everything? Is there still a way out?

Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider. You may have to leave the machine there for several days.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional—ask if you need guidance.
If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.

Apple also recommends that you deauthorize a device in the iTunes Store before having it serviced.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

When I go into itunes I get the message - itunes has detected an ipod in recovery mode. You must restore this ipod before it can be used with itunes,
how am I supposed to do this ?
I would rather take the ipod to someone to do the restoration - I still have itunes with all of my downloads on my computer, I dont want to risk losing this as I can re-install onto my ipod when it is sorted.

Sidebar missing from iCal in Lion - seeking a third party product to restore lost functionality

Apple has removed the sidebar, the always-on list of calendars that required no click.
The shallow popover that appears only when clicked — obscuring part of the calendar before disappearing — is to me (and some others) an unacceptable substitute for working with multiple calendars, especially where calendars are grouped across multiple servers.
I'm aware of third party alternatives to iCal. (Most full-featured calendar interfaces do have an always-on full-height list of calendars. Probably the best known alternative to iCal is BusyCal.)
This topic does not seek alternatives; I do wish to continue using iCal, albeit in a way that is less frustrating than what Apple forces upon users of 10.7.
This topic seeks:
a third party product that will restore lost functionality to iCal.
To any developer who reads this topic: please, I beg you, on my knees, submit your iCal sidebar app — or whatever you wish to call it — to the App Store as soon as you can. I'll gladly pay, and more than gladly help to test any pre-Store development version.
Other readers please note: whilst I'm extraordinarily frustrated by Apple's design decision, this is not an invitation to rant. Let's gain something constructive from this discussion.
If you wish Apple to restore the sidebar to iCal, as an option, then please:
submit iCal feedback to Apple, with your use case; explain why for you personally the limited disappearing popover is a poor substitute; explain how the sidebar will improve both (a) your productivity and (b) your appreciation of Apple's software.

I would like to say, "give it time — the more you use it, the more it will be appreciated" but for me this is not true. For some weeks I tried to work with this build of iCal and the more I used it, the greater the frustration. I grew to avoid iCal.
In most ways the feature set of iCal is unequalled. Support for many standards is excellent. The removal of the sidebar is a blight on this brilliance.
I plead with Apple or a third party developer to fix this at the earliest opportunity. I want Apple iCal — but user-friendly, not crippled.

Errors when updating leads to corrupt system files and this may be your problem. If you're using windows, connect your device to PC and run any third party app like Syncios. If it detects, you maybe in luck and try to back-up your data if possible. I hope that it won't and if doesn't, there is no other way to recover files. You should be restoring with iTunes and all data will be erased, or else your device may become unusable.
