You may want to tell more than "us" or "we" because there would be a lot of people at OOW and it's not going to be easy to find someone just by the description "us" .

  • Oracle Openworld 2007 moved from San Francisco?

I was googling for Oracle Openworld 2007, and noted that OOW 2007 is not being held in San Fransicso this year:
    Oracle OpenWorld 2007
    September27th-29th, Lalandia
Why has it been moved from San Francisco?
    http://miracleas.dk/images/upload/MOOW07/MOOW07_agenda.pdf

What on earth were your search terms? I tried Oracle Open World/ Oracle Open World 2007/openworld 2007 openworld/ etc etc and all of them returned the Oracle event at the top of the list. Some of them returned Miracle's SQLServer open world in the top 5 admittedly.
The fact that there are only 3 tracks in the event you list might have given you a clue as well.
That all said I'd far rather be at the Lalandia event that OpenWorld itself - the agenda has no fat (well apart from the musical maybe) and the presenters are all absolutely top notch. sadly my company won't pay for either event.

  • About Oracle OpenWorld

    Hi;
I need to learn about some information and need some advices about Oracle OpenWorld event. I checked oracle.com about registiration and there are some option like Full Conference,Full Conference -Plus Oracle Develop, Full Conference-Plus Primavera
For Oracle Apps Dba which one is will be better? If someone join this event before can she/he give me details? Is it possible to join event freely or its mandotary to make registtiration for can join this event.
Can anyone say me what this event can give us, what is the benefit of this event?
If we make registiration how we can arrange visa paper(for instance oracle send us invitation letter for visa) or hotel etc?
    Any information can be usefull
    Thanks a lot
    Helios

    Hi Helios,
I attended OpenWorld in 2006; here are some opinions, and even a few facts ;-)
    1) You must register to attend OpenWorld. In some specialized cases it's possible to have registration fees waived (getting a blogger pass, for example), but you must be a registered guest to attend. The [Oracle Discover|http://www.oracle.com/us/openworld/registration.htm#discover] pass is a much cheaper way of getting access to the conference, but you won't get access to most of the conference sessions, or all of the events. Still, if your budget is tight, the Discover pass offers access to a lot of content, including the exhibition floor, user group and OTN areas, etc.
    2) If you get a Full Conference pass, I think there will be enough to occupy your time as an Apps DBA at OpenWorld without getting the Develop or Primavera addons. Some of my colleagues did find the Oracle Develop program to be very valuable, however, so if you do have an interest in one of the [offered tracks|http://www.oracle.com/us/openworld/018069.htm#tracks] , it might be worth the extra fee.
    3) If you go, prepare beforehand. The conference is huge, and trying to figure out what sessions and events to attend on a daily basis can take a lot of energy and planning. You can always change your mind about your schedule as the week goes on, but it's a good idea to have a framework before you arrive. Furthermore, interesting and popular sessions can fill up quickly, so building your session calendar beforehand is highly recommended. Steven Chan's blog has [some pointers|http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2009/08/connect_at_openworld_2009.html] to the EBS and Application Tools/Technology tracks for OpenWorld 2009, so you can get an idea of what's available.
    4) I don't know if Oracle offers invitation letters for non-US attendees who need visas. I do know that arranging hotel accommodation is the attendee's responsibility. Many of the hotels near the conference center (and all over San Francisco) fill up very quickly. Oracle does offer shuttle services from some hotels to the conference center.
    5) If you go, you will have a great time. It's good learning and networking experience, and Oracle puts on a good show. :-)
    Hope this helps a bit!
    Regards,
    John P.

Title:      Java SE for Embedded Meets Oracle Berkeley DB at the Edge
Abstract:      This session covers a special case of edge-to-enterprise computing, where the edge consists of embedded devices running Java SE for Embedded in combination with Oracle Berkeley DB Java Edition, a widely used embedded database. The approach fits a larger emerging trend in which edge embedded devices are "smart"--that is, they come equipped with an embedded (in-process) database for structured persistent storage of data as needed. In addition, these devices may optionally come with a thin middleware layer that can perform certain basic data processing operations locally. The session highlights the synergies between both technologies and how they can be utilized. Topics covered include implementation and performance optimization.

Title:      Developing Applications with Oracle Berkeley DB for Java and Java ME Smartphones
Abstract:      Oracle Berkeley DB is a high-performance, embeddable database engine for developers of mission-critical systems. It runs directly in the application that uses it, so no separate server is required and no human administration is needed, and it provides developers with fast, reliable, local persistence with zero administration. The Java ME platform provides a new, rich user experience for cell phones comparable to the graphical user interfaces found on the iPhone, Google Android, and other next-generation cell phones. This session demonstrates how to use Oracle Berkeley DB and the Java ME platform to deliver rich database applications for today's cell phones.
Speaker(s):      Hinkmond Wong, Oracle, Principal Member of Technical Staff

  • Session for Oracle OpenWorld

    Hey Folks,
I just submitted a session idea for Oracle OpenWorld. this year called "Performance Tuning and Sizing Oracle Lite for a Global Enterprise Application."
    https://mix.oracle.com/ideas/32780-performance-tuning-and-sizing-oracle-lite-for-a-global-enterprise-application
If you would be interested in hearing about this session, then vote for my idea.
Usually the way they do presentations is Oracle picks topics (for Oracle Employees) and then they have slots open for customer speakers, ACE members, etc. This year they are doing it on a voting system. I submitted my idea above.
I will be attending OpenWorld this year (haven't registered yet) and if anyone wants to meet for drinks, coffee, socializing, I am very approachable.
The event is a awesome! About 45,000 people there last year and I am assuming more with the purchase of BEA this past season. Great keynote sessions, plenty of activities, and they put on quite the concert last year with 3 headliners (Lenny Kravitz, Billy Joel, and Stevie Nixx).
So, log in and vote or suggest your own idea.
    Cheers,
    Greg Rekounas

    Hey Gary,
I am approximately the same distance from the UK as I am from SF. Last years even had people from all over. I spoke to a couple of guys from Germany that had installed Oracle Lite on BMWs. Very cool!
I think there was about 17 in my session and about 18 in the session after mine. I had a fair amount of questions during my own session and then people were asking me things in the next persons session.
Overall the experience was great. The Oracle Lite product team is a good group of individuals and they do listen to what you have to say. I am looking forward to seeing them again this year.
