Attention Buffalo NAS Users!

Buffalo Tech has uploaded new firmware that addresses the iTunes 10.5 issue of not being able to use Buffalo NAS devices as iTunes servers. I've tested the upgraded firmware (1.56) with a LinkStation LS-CH1.0TL-V2 in the latest version of iTunes to date (10.5.2) and it works again like it did with iTunes 10.4.

Good to hear, I'm just curious how long it takes for this firmware to install, its been going for an hour now and says please dont close or refresh this window. Under progress it just states update has started. lol, would hate to lose 1tb of media files over a firmware update

Time Capsule and Linksys Buffalo NAS

I am struggling with my new TC and looking for some pointers.
What I want to be able to do is have setup my network they way it used to be before my linksys router crapped out... only now with TC I want the added time machine backup capability.
what I used to have was cable modem>linsys router>linkstation buffalo NAS (ethernet) and (wireless) to airport express (with USB printer and Airtunes speakers)
I have managed to get all set up EXCEPT the linkstation buffalo.. for some reason simply plugging it into the ethernet jacks on the TC doesn't allow it to show up as a shared drive... and unfortunately there is no way to do a USB to USB on this device because both have the same connector end and I can't find anywhere that this cable exists.
help?
Does TC support an additional NAS device in it's network capabilities? I have 'extended the network' and any other preferences through airport setup utility, but to no avail...

My Xbox 360 can't connect to Time Capsule wirelessly unless I run in 802.11b mode or unless I purchase something like an AirPort Express or similar wireless access point. I use the Linksys as my main router because it has much more configurable options, especially with the DD-WRT firmware, than the Time Capsule does. The Time Capsule is very user friendly but I think it sacrifices a lot of advanced options.

My folders are locked on a shared Buffalo NAS Drive. How do I unlock them?

I have an Imac 27" running snow leopard and Im connected to a shared Buffalo NAS drive. Some of the folders are locked. I ran a test on an empty folder and selected get info, and changed the priviledge to "Read & Write" from "Read Only" and the folder locked. how do I get the folder to unlock? The other computers are showing the folder locked as well.

We were able to unlock the folder from an old mac running OS 9 and change the permissions.

Buffalo NAS and OS X

I am considering buying a Buffalo NAS for my home network. They have two Linkstation models: Pro and Live. The Buffalo website states that the Pro model requires Windows for setup and offers Windows or Linux client support; while the Live model requires Windows or Mac OS for setup and offers Windows, Mac OS or Linux client support. Is this true? I'm leaning toward the Pro model but am unsure of OS X support.
Has anyone used the Pro model with OS X? Any comments on using either model with OS X?

Movies not showing in shared library on Buffalo NAS

I have installed a Buffalo NAS with DNLA server active.
I can see the shared libary within itunes on my MAC but only music files show in the library, non of the movie files are visible?
Buffalo tech support suggest this is an itunes problem.
anyone got and ideas to resolve this.

thanks, i've only just installed and copied the files over so this would seem not to apply.
I checked on my son's PC and looked at the shared library from my MAC and I can see all content, i think this is a Buffalo DNLA server issue.

Buffalo Nas Navigator2 doesn't work with Mavericks

Hello,
On my Mac Pro (5.1) Buffalo Nas Navigator2 (v2.69 & v1.71) doesn't work with Mavericks :-(
The window opens and closes immediately (approximately 2s).
According the Buffalo support, all the versions works with Mac OS (including Mavericks ?)

For your information, I have no problem with the Finder (I don't use cifs), I can see my LinkStation. The problem is only with Nas Navigator.
Yesterday I tried to use LinkNavigator: Link Navigator installs Nas Navigator and tried to connect to the Link Station, and I could see a message like "no Link Station found on the network" while I have 4 Link Station :-(
I believe that Finder and Nas Navigator do not use the same protocol.
It's curious that the support of Buffalo are not aware about the problem between Nas Navigator and Maverick.

Can not create a playlist from Buffalo NAS drive

I have a Buffalo NAS drive which stores my iTunes Library. When I try to create a playlist and highlight the songs I want, I cant seem to drag them across to the playlist. I'm assuming that is because they are on my NAS drive and not local. Is there anyway around this?

If the tracks aren't represented in the local iTunes library but only appear as a shared library, you cannot add them to a new playlist. You'd have to mount the Buffalo as an external drive and add the tracks to the local iTunes library: turn off the option to "copy files to Tunes Music folder when adding to library" in the Advanced preferences) and then use the "add to library" command under the File menu. The NAS will have to remain mounted whenever you want to use iTunes in this scenario.
Otherwise, you'll have to consult the Buffalo's documentation to determine if it's possible to set up playlists on the Buffalo and if so what procedure to follow.

Attention all ipod uses who's computer won't recondnise ipod! Connect your ipod to your computer. Once it's connected, try turning the hold switch on and off multiple times. This might solve your problem.

This is just a trick played by few users regarding Asha 501 SW update.They are now following the same now in case of Asha 311. !
The best explanation is this way -- " A random guy posts regarding the update information(Though he doesnt know),then everyone will be checking that info and woud be thinking that update would be really available after prescribed date.(almost 80% of users trust this info because they just need update and not the one who posted it). I have the same problem with my Conceptronic CH3HNAS and have found a free and easy solution.
Since a lot of people report they are able to access their NAS using apps other than the Finder itself, I decided to look for a free Lion-compatible File Manager to use instead of Finder.
I have found muCommander ( http://www.mucommander.com/ ) and indeed it works fine. All I did was click on the button highlighted bellow, go to "bonjour services" and select my NAS. It prompted me for my username and password and voilá, it works fine.
I keep Finder for everyday use and just load muCommander when I want to access the NAS. At least now I don't have to start my WinXP VM anymore just to access it.

Attention all Logic users: help is needed!!

Guys, this one is killing me:
I have an Evoluiton MK24 midi keyboard: about ten years old!
whenever i play a note on it, it registers in the transport bar as the next not up the scale. Also, it appears in the matrix window as the next not up the scale.
What is going on??
If i play a "C" on the MK24, a "D" will apear in the transport bar and matrix editor. Likewise for all notes played, they appera in Logic as the next note up the scale.
Obviously there is some sort of conflict but what the **** is it?
Can anyone suggest anythin as it is making playing very difficult, allthough because of this i have invented some very interesting sounding scales and melodies!!
Also, can anyone help me to understand how i can assign the 12 parameters on the keyboard (cutoff, resonance etc) to the parameters on my sampler. The sampler is connected via midi to Logic and the MK24 via USB to Logic. Do i set the controllers inside Logic for the control of the samplers parameters or inside the sampler. I am really confused with the mdid keyboard/controller thing, someone please help!!

It sounds like your keyboard is in transpose mode. Try another piece of software to see if it is showing the same results. I recommend the free and very useful MIDI Monitor at http://www.snoize.com. If you see the same thing there, check the keyboard's manual to see how to make it stop transposing.
If it turns out the keyboard is not transposing, there's a chance you have a transform object in your Logic environment that's doing the transposing, but the chances of that happening without you knowing it are pretty close to nil unless your studio-mate is playing a practical joke on you.
You might want to try the sampler parameter question in another thread with a more descriptive title.

ATTENTION IPOD / ITUNES USER'S

I rescently posted several questions about useing my iPod with my new kenwood deck via USB hub on deck face plate (and I must say it is phenominal). But I found out why my music purchased from iTunes is not working. There are 2 types of AAC files that are present in the store; PURCHASEBLE files and PROTECTED files. The protected files can not be played in any medium but your iPod (no other source can play these files; CD player, car stereo; or cp based Media Player). Here is the kicker, THERE IS NO WAY TO FIND OUT WHICH FILE IS PROTECTED AND WHICH FILE IS PURCHASEBLE UNTIL YOU PURCHASE THE DAMNED SONG. So now you're informed, buy CD's from your local spin center. I believe that if you buy the song, it is yours to play. [ Edited by Host, don't steal music ]

You are confused. First off those are two different things you are mixing up.
One is that you are allowed to authorize up to 5 computers at any one time to be able to play DRM protected purchased iTunes content. Once you reach 5, if you want to authorize another computer, then you have to unauthorize another to make room. For the vast majority of people, this shouldn't be an issue unless you have more than 5 computers running in your house and need them all to play your iTunes songs.
Second, there is no limit to the number of times you can burn a purchased iTunes song to an audio CD. What there is a limit on is the number of times you can burn a particular playlist which contains a DRM protected song to a CDR as an Audio CD. I think it is something like 7 times. But the limit is NOT on that song, but on that particular playlst. You can change the playlist (add a song and remove another, change the order, etc.) or add the DRM song to a new playlis and you can again make another 7 (or however many it is) more audio CDs of that playlist. Keep adding the purchased song to new/different playlists and you can burn as many copies to audio CDs as your little heart desires.
So please get your facts straight before you try and "inform" people. Misinformation helps no one.

For some reason time machine did not finish the backup and the message is somethhing like the backup file is in use. Txs!

Setting up multiple users / computers with 1 itunes on NAS

Sorry in advance is this question has already been asked, there is so much stuff floating around on the forum that it would take for ever to surf thru it all.
I recently purchased a Buffalo NAS with itunes server on it.
I'm currently in the process of copying all music folders from local Disk to NAS - some purchases from iTunes, some from my own CD collection.
I will be reinstalling windows on my Desktop PC.
What i want to achive is
1. A fresh start in iTunes (no ratings, no play counts etc), i will be rebuilding my PC soon so i guess this bit is easily achieved - install iTunes and point to the NAS.
2. Then install iTunes on a 2nd computer, and when I play a song or rate a song from either computer, ensure that the information is visible from the other computer. (Basically if i rate a song on computer 2, and then log onto computer 1 at a different time, the rating made from computer 2 is visible).
3. Have the same playlists duplicated on computer 1 and computer 2.
4. Setup a 2nd user on the 2 computers (Family member) to access the same music folders / files as myself, so that they can rate the music according to their taste without changing the rating I've already made,
Finally, we both have our own itouch players, and want to be able to sync independently using the above.
Thanks a million in advance to anyone who knows the answer to this hopefully easy problem.
