I'm getting ready (I hope) to upgrade my Garritan Personal Orchestra software to version 2.2.1. If there are any other GPO/Logic users reading this, and you have upgraded, have you noticed any performance glitches, plugin/sample loading errors (besides the usual), etc to watch for?
PowerMac G5 DP 2.0 Mac OS X (10.4.9) Final Cut Studio, Adobe CS3, Logic Pro 7, Sony HDRHC3, Chapman Stick

The only issue I had was learning the new Kontakt interface, but as I bought the full version of Kontakt with the tutorial DVD too all the difficulties have been cleared up.
I have no specific new problems.
The Ambience reverb doesn't work on Intel machines, but Kontakt 2 player has some alternative revrbs and effects that are included in the fill version of Kontakt.

  • ATTN: All Users w/ USB Port Issues

    Hello,
    I have an A135-2386, BIOS v1.6, 2GB RAM
After reading some of the messages in this forum (and on the web) I'm convinced that the USB issue is directly related to BIOS upgrades.
I had the BIOS password issue happen to me last week and I fixed the issue myself by jumping the pin jopen1 (short with paper clip). Anyway, I updated the BIOS to v1.4 (to prevent the password issue from recurring) and the USB issues started surfacing.
At first I could toggle the legacy usb option in BIOS and the ports would start functioning.  But after the pc went to sleep or was restarted the problem came back. Now the toggle workaround no longer helps.
Even though my warranty has expired I did get sympathetic help from Toshiba.
After contacting Toshiba support they suggested I update the BIOS to v1.6 (the latest).
The latest BIOS v1.6 does not solve the USB issue.
Please call Toshiba Support 1-800-457-7777 (24/7) and log this issue.
Refer to my call number; 1-1147317549
If we can get demonstrate that this is a BIOS issue then hopefully we can get a resolution at no cost.
I see someone got a new motherboard in another thread, I'm curious as to what BIOS it has.
    Regards,
    Kenneth Barrentine

"BIOS upgrades, as identified by Toshiba and other manuf's, is at owner risk."
I've never heard that one before.  It's been my experience that most manufacturers want you to stay current.
In case I omitted some details here are the reasons again.
The first BIOS upgrade, v1.1 to v1.4, was so that I would not ever have to deal with resetting a BIOS admin password.
The second BIOS upgrade, v1.4 to v1.6, was recommended by Toshiba Technical Support in an effort to correct the malfunctioning USB ports.  Since there was no documentation addressing this issue in v1.6 it did seem pointless to upgrade to this version.  I just followed the Toshiba Technical Support recommendation in an effort to correct the USB issue.
    I'm leaning toward a PCMCIA<>USB card.
There is a bulletin from Toshiba recommending the BIOS upgrade.  There is no mention of risk.

  • Urgent question: forum or newsgroup?

I am trying to convince Spanish speaking users "from the other side" (ex MM forums in Spanish) to post here their opinions about the changes that are almost here, but have not been succesful. All of them do not use browsers as such to access the forums, and they seem convinced that they are participating, not in a forum, but in a newgroup, housed but not controlled by Adobe. In fact, in the topic lists they are identified as "newsgroup users" while browser users are identified by their screen names.
One of the oldest and most respected participants there has just posted a message in which he states that NNTP users do not access those forums through the Adobe site, so they don't need an Adobe ID, just an email address which doesn't even have to be a real or existing one.
I find this strange, as it would discriminate against those of us using normal browser access. I cannot post in there if I'm not a registered Adobe user, and that means that at some stage I have to provide a valid email address, an identificator (the Adobe ID), and a screen name. But he insists that they don't have to register and have never done.
Could someone please clarify this matter for me?

A bit of history from an old and current NNTP user (FidoNet, Usenet, and other private news servers).<br /><br />[Edit: The newsgroups Claudio was asking about] are hosted on forums.macromedia.com. They were in use and very active years before Macromedia added that nasty FuseTalk Web application. No login was ever required to read and post to that server. You can point your newsreader application to that server, download its list of newsgroups, and begin reading/posting in any group. <br /><br />The Web application simply reads from, and posts to the news server - munging code and message headers along the way. But if you want to use the Web access, you do have to use a login. If you never registered software at the former Macromedia site, you would need to create a new login for this. (I don't recommend it.) Or they may have had a separate login, I don't recall, exactly.<br /><br />Adobe has a separate NNTP server, adobeforums.com, that I believe was also around before the WebX application provided HTTP access. It does not require login to read the messages with a newsreader, but if you want to post to that server with a newsreader, you do have to login with an Adobe ID. Most newsreader programs provide a way to do that.<br /><br />Neither of these servers are really considered part of Usenet. While they do make their feeds available to other news servers*, they do not get newsfeeds from other servers. That is why sites such as groups.google.com (formerly dejanews.com) can archive the posts for posterity, but cannot post to these newsgroups.<br /><br />* I /think/ adobeforums.com may have discontinued this practice.<br /><br />That's how it went to the best of my recollection tonight.<br /><br /><Warning: newsgroup .sigfile follows><br /><br />-- <br />Mark A. • Creating a user page

how do i create a page that user can use to create their own
personal profile once they registered ?
Is it possible to have a page designed just for that and
everytime i get a new visitors that registers, that page will be
    their profile page ?
I dont know if i am explaining myself enough, hope someone
knows what i am talking about and can help me out.
    Thank you so much

If I may, LuisDesigns, to add something to this information
    here.
I think the books I have are going to be of a big help and
very useful, reliable tool *and* resource for you to use.
I recommend that you purchase two books, whose wrote by David
Powers, and the title and publishers are as follows below:
    a) Foundation PHP for Dreamweaver 8, by David Powers,
published by An Apress Company (also friends of ed), and
    b) PHP Solutions: Dynamic Web Design Made Easy, by David
    Powers. Same publisher.
Additionally, I also find two other books very helpful for
me. I don't know if those other two are be of an interest for you.
But it is worth to mention it for you, and you can be the judge by
looking at those books perhaps at Barnes Noble or Border bookstores
    in your hometown.
Additionally, I wanted to make a quick note, I really like
the first two books that I have mentioned as above as opposed to
the last two below. Because these two books (Foundation PHP for
Dreamweaver 8 and PHP Solutions by David Powers) are very clearly,
conise and well-through and well referenced, as well as thoroughly
documentated by the author. I commend him for that wonderful books
he wrote. I think you'd be immensely impressed with the quality of
information with Powers' books, you'll agree with me eventually.
I also think that you are experencing some kind of brain
frozen or stuck, and don't know where to get started. Let me assure
you that David Powers' books are going to be of a big help and a
wonderful guideline and steps as in 1, 2 and 3. If you decide to
purchase his books, be sure to visit the websites as directed by
the author, because there is some updated additional information
along with the books after the books released.
    c) Learning PHP & MySQL by Michele E. Davis & Jon A.
Phillips, published by O'Reilly Media Inc, first edition (June
    2006),
    d) PHP and MySQL for Dynamic Web Sites, by Larry Ullman
published by Peachpit Press. (This covers PHP3/PHP4 and MySQL3/4).
One other thing, it is important to make a note that you need
to make sure that you have exact same versions of PHP and MySQL
versions on your local machine AND remote servers. If differs, you
could run into problems per se.
    Hope that helps, no?

  • OT: Newsgroup Subscription for Spry Forum?

OT: I usually read these forums via a newsreader. But I
haven't been able to find the subscription for this one... it's not
in the Labs list for the forums.macromedia.com where I find all the
    others.
I do see some folks posting as Newsgroup Users. What am I
    missing?
    TIA

Thanks, Kin. I changed the profile options, so I started
    receiving
posts in my inbox. But I still couldn't find the subscription
    in my
newsreader (separate from my regular inbox). As I was just

there as an option, under Labs, to subscribe directly via

  • A Dumb Question From A New CS3 User

I am in the process of building a new site using CS3. This is
my first experience with this product and I have what I am sure is
a remarkably dumb question. I have an image (a banner ad) centered
on one of the pages and would like to insert a table to the left of
the image without the image moving (i.e. down) from it's current
location. How can this be done?
    Thanks!

    Thanks!
    That worked perfectly.

An easy way is to make your table with two cells, then put
    the banner in the
right cell - if you need more subdivison of the left cell,
    you can put a
    table in it.

    adobe.acrobat.com.conver_to_pdf,adobe.acrobat.comgenral_discussion,adobe.acrobat.login_iss ues

    Hello jackcmac,
I am not aware of newsgroups that may be allowing access to
the Acrobat.com forums, although sometimes we do get posts from a

entirely....But, you're in the right place for Acrobat.com support!

  • Problem with user home directory redirection on OS X

It appears that the Authorware 7.01 runtime gets confused
when home directory redirection is used on Mac OS X to redirect a
    user's directory to the network.
I suspect it is a problem with the path to the Application
Support folder where Authorware stores its .rec files.
That happens is that JumpFileReturn returns to the start of
the piece, rather then returning to where the jump was performed.
As anyone else seen this? Is there any workaround?
On Windows one can setup and ini file to tell Authorware
where to store temporary files. Is there any such equivalent on
    Mac?

I'm not sure of the process on macs that match the use of the
    ini file, but
the goal was always identical operation on both platforms so
    it's very
likely that the ini file is read and interpreted in the same
    manner.
It seems that the 'initial' location of the current records
    folder is the
one that's messed up. The .rec file is created on the local
    machine rather
than the redirected one. I can only guess that either the
    home folder isn't
redirected until after the first AW piece starts or the
    initial setting is
being set to a 'default' location for the user rather than
    asking the system
what the current location is. A solution might be to create a
    "launcher"
application with Authorware designed to start up and jump to
    what is
currently your startup piece. This way the RecordsLocation
    should be changed
to the network location and you can ignore the original rec
    file since
you'll never return to that first location.

  • How can I have text on top of an image?

say i want to do something like this for my site:

what would be the best way to have those colored rounded

  • How to transfer a site on my HD to a local testing server?

My site, which I developed in Dreamweaver CS3, is currently
all static HTML. I'm making progress in changing it to have some
PHP content, but my initial work is all on my live site -- whereas
I want to be able to do development and testing on a local testing
server. I've successfully set up XAMPP, and am making progress in
developing some pages on a *new* local test site (which I've
installed for local testing at C:/Program Files/xampp/htdocs),
which I've set up to have PHP-based dynamic content. What I *can't*
figure out how to do is to take all of my local content for my live
Website (which is currently at C:/Documents and
    Settings/MyName/MySite/) and move it to
    http://localhost/ (at C:/Program
Files/xampp/htdocs), so I can can develop and test new dynamic
content for my site locally against my local Web server. I suspect
that there are some simple steps to accomplish this goal, but I'm
pretty new at this, and can't figure it out. Any advice/guidance
    will be greatly appreciated!

Wow, that was simple. Thanks! (I had assumed that I needed to
make the change somehow from within Dreamweaver, vs. in Windows
Explorer. But I guess that's necessary only if/when you're moving
files around *within* a site.) Thanks so much!
I think that Dreamweaver will fuss at me that my testing site
    (actually,
    http://localhost/visiblewind)
is in a subfolder, whereas my live site (
    http://www.visiblewind.com)
is at the root, for synchronization-related issues. Will that cause
issues if I do switch from a separate FTP program (which I'm
currently using) to synchronization via Dreamweaver?
p.s.: I ordered your "Essential Guide..." yesterday -- am
expecting it in the mail when I get home tonight!

  • Find/Replace - multiple replace ... maybe with regex

Hello Dreamweaver community ... I'm relatively new to using Dreamweaver as an editor and I'm working on a large migration project that I'm trying to make easier. Basically, I'm converting an entire site from English to Spanish ... almost literally tag by tag
Something that would make my job a lot easier is if ... every time I open a new Spanish language content file I could ...
replace ALL Spanish language grammar symbols, accents, tildes etc ... with their HTML equivalents ... for example ...
    á  = &aacute;
    é = &eacute;
    í = &iacute;
And so on ... there's about 10-12 major changes ...
What I need to figure out is how to save a find/replace query in Dreamweaver .dwr format that replaces all symbols at once instead of needing to do them one at a time ...
Seems like this shoudl be possible but I haven't figured out the right syntax ... I used the (.+) and $1 but it only worked conditionally - in the order the replacements were written. I need it to find ALL instances of a spanish symbol and replace it with its corresponding html ...
Can anyone help me with this ...?
    Thank you in advance ...

This is in fact the only solution I found to this problem.

    reference material.

As far as i know, no it's not possible.
There has been mentions in the past to this question that a
    series of
find/replace queries could be built as a dw extension instead
    of a saved
    search query.

  • Creating a hyperlink on an image ruins my whole layout!?

    Hi guys,
I have been using Dreamweaver at High School for a while, but
now am using it at university and it is version CS3.
I am not expert at websites, and am used to creating a site
in fireworks or photoshop (now), then slicing and importing into
dreamweaver. I have done this with my latest site but I am having
some wierd problems that I have never had before.
Here is how my page looks without my image (enter button)
inked to my main page (main.html)
    <a href="
    http://s255.photobucket.com/albums/hh129/marceta/?action=view&current=site_before.jpg"
    target="_blank"><img src="
    http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh129/marceta/site_before.jpg"
    border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
Ok now when I link it (I have tried by dragging the
crosshairs next ot the box, and the manual method of typing it in),
this happens and the whole page looks screwed up.
    <a href="
    http://s255.photobucket.com/albums/hh129/marceta/?action=view&current=site_after.jpg"
    target="_blank"><img src="
    http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh129/marceta/site_after.jpg"
    border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>
This is really annoying as it happens in every page no matter
what I link. How do I fix it? It is almost as if the a href tag
increases the size of the image, or adds an invisible border that I
can not get rid of. I am sure that anyone with half a brain on
web-dev will easily be able to tell me the setting to fix this. I
dont not want to resort to using image maps.
    Thanks a lot in advance,
    Peter Marceta
\EDIT: sorry about the images...I tried bbcode tags [IMG] but
then realized they wouldnt work, but I couldnt get the HTML to work
either. Just clike the links and it should work.

Such a generic rule could well destroy a page's layout.
    Getting rid of
borders around image links should be done with a scalpel, not
    a machete....
