Attractive Firewire to USB 2.0 adapter for iMac?

I have a 20" intel iMac. It has 2 Firewire ports on the back that are going unused -- meanwhile I have too many USB 2.0 peripherals and I'm constantly swapping them out (printer, scanner, external hard drive, iPod, cybershot).
I've thought about getting a USB hub to extend the ports, but I really don't want an extra ugly device with a extra power cables and stuff.
Ideally, I'd like an attractive little device that fits right into one or both Firewire ports and converts them into USB 2.0 -- no extra cable, no separate powers supply, and preferably in iMac white.
Does such a beast exist?

It stacks nicely with an Apple Extreme Base Station (AEBS) and it doesn't look bad next to your iMac. I bought one when I had a Mini and I had a nice looking Mini-AEBS-Belkin stack on my desk. Nowadays, I have it stacked below my AEBS next to my iMac and it looks great...

Will Firewire to USB 2.0 adapter work for 5G iPod?

Interested in getting a 5G iPod for an overseas trip. I have a flat panel iMac with only USB 1.0 and Firewire. I've heard that there is an adapter from Firewire to USB 2.0. Anyone heard of this? If so, can that be used to transfer files using Firewire instead of USB 1.0? I am afraid that loading movies using USB 1.0 will take forever!

Firewire to USB 2.0 adapter

We have a few computers whose firewire ports aren't working correctly. I'd still like to use an external firewire drive with them if I can find an adapter for firewire 400 to USB 2.
Does anyone know of any?

I don't know if there is an adaptor or not but what is wrong with the firewire ports? They generally don't go bad. Have you tried resetting the ports?
I believe to reset the ports you have to power down the Mac, and unplug it for about 5 minutes then plug it back in and reboot. If the port needed resetting that should take care of it.

USB to HDMI adapter for external display in clamshell mode?

Hello.
Does anyone know of a USB to HDMI (or DVI) adapter so that I can connect an external display (with an HDMI or DVI cable) to a USB port on my Macbook air?
I need to run it in clamshell mode, mirroring the Air display. The Monoprice USB to HDMI adapter (which uses DislplayLink drivers) I tried does not work properly in clamshell mode with mirroring (though it works in arrangement mode). I know I can use the Thunderbolt port, but I need to leave this free for a Firewire device.

Unfortunately, I have the same problem, but using USB devices and Displaylink software. I know there are issues with Displaylink software as they say the problem is with Apple. I have three external monitors with a late 2008 I Macbook Pro which gives me four screens. I was able to get two to work + the Macbook, but there were so many issues, like you described, that I have given up and I am just using the Mini Display port which gives me one external and the Macbook. Looks like we will just have to wait until Apple does something. I have found no other solutions at this point - hardware or otherwise.

Adapter for iMac 27" as display for virgin media V+ HD box?

Hi, I'd like to connect a virgin media V+ HD box box to my 27" iMac [3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, late 2009]
The virgin media V+ HD box provides both dvi and hdmi outputs.
iMac 27" manual states: supports input from external DisplayPort sources (requires cables and adapters, sold separately).
Can anyone recommend an adapter for this purpose?
Ideally, the adapter would carry audio as well as picture and Target Display Mode (shift-F2?) would flip between the two.

Wht are you trying to do? It sounds like the goal is to watch TV or other video that comes in on the Virgin box and use the iMac as a display. If that is the case please visit www.elgato.com, they supply various devices that can fulfil that need.

Gaming usb adapter for iMac?

So finally my iMac 24" is coming tomorrow, and i also unearthed my old Nintendo 64.... I was wondering if there are any adapters out there where you can attach an RCA adapter from the N64 or xbox 360 to some device and plug it into the usb port. I know that there is one called GameBridge from Adaptec, but the discontinued those. Also I don't really want to pay $250 for that device from elgato where you can hook it up through that tv adapter. So anyone have any ideas? Thanks for the help!

I really hope that someone will post who owns one of the products suggested. Are there any gaming systems that don't work with it? How is the quality of the tv reception in real world use? How about the software for recorded shows to the hard drive? Better with 20 in or 24 in iMac? I really want to get one for use with my iMac. I have an overwhelming and large 25 in. tube tv that is old and has horrible picture quality. I'm hoping that I can watch tv on my iMac and gain some space in my computer room.
It would be great if this product performs as claimed and isn't just hype.

Many external hard drives and hard drive enclosures (if you want to put together your own external drive) are now using Combination chip sets that support both USB and FW ports. So I suggest looking for a Combo External Hard Drive and then your neighbor can hook it up either way.

Recommended USB 2.0 Hub for iMac G5?

It's strange that Apple doesn't offer something in the online store and I'm not seeing an obvious choice. Any recommendations on a hub, even for a few extra powered USB devices? Seems that most devices want 2.0 power.

I personally have always purchased and used Belkin Hubs with my Apple/iMac System's.
You can pick-up a 4 or 7 port self-powered _Mac compatible 2.0 hub_ at most local electronic retailer's like BestBuy, Circuit City, Fry's, Staples, Office Max just to name a few.

Je souhaiterai savoir si cela est bien compatible avec mon iMac, pour pouvoir brancher ma ps3 en HMDI par l'intermediaire du boitier(dr boot), car je n'arrive pas a connecter la play sur l'iMac.

Boot Camp will not support Vista on newer iMacs, you will need to upgrade to Windows 7. Also as an FYI there is a Boot Camp forum, you can locate it by clicking Apple Support Communities and then in the search field type Boot Camp.

[SOLVED] Driver for my USB Wireless LAN Adapter

I have a USB Wireless LAN Adapter for my desktop so I can share the network at home with others，but I found that I can only use my USB Wireless LAN Adapter in install environment. The driver for USB Wireless LAN Adapter just disappear after installation，the operating system could only identify the device but could not drive it.
Are there some packages not install for this problem or some configuration of the system is wrong?

have you searched the forums? There are a bunch of threads on the ath9k module not working correctly with the latest kernel.
That's why it works in the live cd environment but stops working once you update and login to your actual installation.

HELP: USB to Ethernet Adapter

Hello Everyone. I have a USB to Ethernet adapter for my Macbook Pro Retina. After plugging it into an ethernet cable and connecting everything, my computer still isn't reading it. I am wondering if there is an install driver or what or if I am doing something wrong. Thanks you for your help.

i am using a SEWELL(USB to GPIB) adapter for communication between PC and GPIB instruments whether Loading a Labview Program from PC to SEWELL(USB to GPIB) adapter is possible,in that adapter it has only USB and GPIB port there is no other port or Reset button is there for loading the program.if it is possible please tell me how to load the program to that adapter.

Your question makes no sense at all. You do not load a LabVIEW program to the adapter.
A google search shows that you are not even correct about the type of controller. Sewell sells the prologix brand and you just have to go to their web site for examples or search here for prologix.
