ATV 3.0 won't create a Genius Mix

I've updated to iTunes 9.0.2 and updated my Genius information several times with iTunes store and re-synced ATV several times as well. Also rebooted ATV twice and restarted iTunes as well. Still getting a message on ATV that says "There aren't enough related songs in iTunes to create a Genius Mix. Genius Mixes requires iTunes 9.0.0 or later". ATV will create a Genius Playlist just fine but not a Genius Mix. Any suggestions?

no.. what it is, is that the unsynced items will now appear as though they are synced, but when clicked on or requested to be played by genius etc they will be streamed.. as long as the linked computer is on and iTunes is open. shut down or sleep computer or quit iTunes and the non synced items will disappear.

  • How do you create a new Genius Mix

Somehow I have ended up with one Genius Mix. It is labeled "Classical Mix". It appeared without my intervention. Can someone tell me how to create additional Genius Mixes?

Jim -- thanks. I tried your suggestions, but I seem to be stuck with the one mix (the same one).
I don't have a real extensive library of albums, but I do have a fair number of individual songs and few if any of these unchecked. The one mix I have is based on four albums and "others". I am not sure what "others" means, but I do have those four complete albums in the library. Maybe that's the key.

  • Genius mixes not working with iTunes 9

The iTunes 9 video says to create a Genius mix, you click on Genius and then turn it on. It then says you'll need to log on to your iTunes account to get started.
Well, there are already two playlists underneath the Genius icon in my sidebar. When I click on the Genius icon, I don't see anything about turning on Genius Mixes. I just see the list of songs for one of my playlists.
    What am I doing wrong?

I no longer have access to Genius Mixes. It was working about 4 days ago, then after coming home from work 3 days ago, I click Mixes and get a blank white page. I have not been able to get it to work. In fact, I no longer have a Mixes bar and help does not have anything. Nothing (I've read 12 forums, over 3200 posts) works. I'm reinstalling but, I'm not optimistic. Oh it broke on my iPhone 4 as well. No option for Genius MIxes.

  • Why these Genius Mixes

First I have to say I love the idea of the Genius Mix. I do use them quite often. However can anybody tell me what triggers iTunes to create a Genius Mix. For some reason iTunes creates Mixes for music I hardly listen to, and have just a few albums (some old rock) but just ignores Dance, and Electronica of which i own lots...
Basically it ignores music I listen to often, and creates mixes for music I want to listen to once every 3 years.
I have seen Mixes for electronica or dance, however not on my machine...
Is there anyway to remove, indie and rock mixes and replace them with lounge, electronica and dance...
    Thanks,

Try this.  Open iTunes and look for songs that have the check mark next to them.  Is some do and some dont try Command A to select all then right click and choose check all.  Then, turn genius off, then back on.  This worked for me.  It also helped with playlists that werent working either.

  • Genius mixes

    1) In the Help Center it says  Play a Genius Mix/Choose Music from the Library pop-up menu, and click Playlists./
    Click Genius Mixes.
But when I follow these instructions and click Playlists, no Genius Mixes option is visible among the playlists.
How do I create the Genius Mixes option?
    2) Also in the Help Center it says Create a Genius playlist/Move the pointer over a song, click , and choose Create Genius Playlist.
I have tried this on several songs and they all say No Genius Suggestions.
Is this second problem related to the first problem above, and how do I rectify it?

Hi Stuart I had the same issue with my Mac when i downloaded the new version of Itunes. The solution is to open up your itunes and at the very top of your computer the "itunes menu" showing beside the apple icon reads as ( Itunes, File , Edit, View , Controls , Store, Advanced , Window , Help )
Click on"Store" and the drop down menu will give you the option to (Update Genius). This worked for me I hope it works for you!

  • Genius Mixes uncheck themselves in Sync window

My iTunes creates twelve Genius Mixes for me, and I set them all to sync to my 64 GB iPod Touch by checking them in the Playlists section of the Music tab while syncing. Everything was a fine for a week or so, and then I noticed that eleven of the Genius Mixes were mysteriously unchecked in the sync list, and not being added to the iPod anymore. I rechecked them and all was well for another couple of weeks, and the same eleven were unchecked again. Rechecked them, and now a couple of weeks later they are unchecked again.
This is getting tedious! It takes a long time to re-sync when this happens. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks...

It happened again--went to sync the Ipod Touch and all but one of the Genius Mixes had become unchecked. All I have to do is check them again and hit "apply" but then it has to copy over 1,000 files back onto the iPod, which takes well over 20 minutes.
Note to Apple: I don't really like the Genius Mixes enough to do this over and over again. This is rapidly becoming a feature that does not add value!

  • Can I move my external drive library in order to create a Genius playlist?

Our iTunes library is stored on an external hard drive, and the computer we use it with is a desktop G3 (stop laughing) running OSX 10.3.9 (OK, really, stop laughing) and the latest version of iTunes I can use with that, iTunes 7 (end of comedy routine). Of course, this is the wife's computer which she only uses for email & internet, so it hasn't been a problem so far.
I would like to create some Genius playlists for that library utilizing my laptop which has 10.5.6 and iTunes 8.0.2.
Is it possible for my to connect the hard drive to my laptop and access that library in my laptop's iTunes for the purpose of creating some Genius playlists that would then be available back on the G3? It would be sweet if this wouldn't affect the laptop's small library stored on it's internal hard drive and in the default iTunes directory as well.
    Thanks!

Actually you can store just some, but you always have to remember to option+drag in the future for those media:

  • FCPX 10.0.7 Won't create alias' to event files

We recently had a Facilis Terrablock SAN installed along with a CatDV server.
The problem we're having is that FCPX won't create alias files on the SAN when importing footage and not moving it to the Events folder, so everything comes up as offline.
We're adding the SAN location properly in FCPX and we can create alias files in finder on the SAN just fine.
Does anyone have any insight about why this is happening?

SAN's of any kind - AFAIK - are supported. FCPX can work with media on our Facilis SAN so long as I use the "Copy Media To Final Cut Events Forlder" option on direct import. It actually works quite well in this regard.
However, this is not how we want to work with our media. Up to this point we've used our own folder structure on local discs prior to importing footage. This works fine as Final Cut creates short cuts to the original media in the Events Folder (kind of a hack way to do this IMO, but whatever, it works). There is know reason I know of that FCPX shouldn't be able to do the same with a SAN location.
I would appreciate replys from people who've actually worked with FCPX and SAN's. Perhaps I'm asking in the wrong place for that.

  • Workgroup Manager won't create home directories; no error message

This is quite frustrating. For the past 3 years or so I have used the same procedure to add new users to my LDAP directory:
    1) In Workgroup Manager, click the New User button
    2) Assign name and password under the basic tab
    3) Assign group memberships under the Groups tab
    4) Under the Home tab, select the right place (nfs://my.server.org/Volumes/Users), click Create Home Now
    5) Click Save
Suddenly, when I try to do this yesterday, workgroup manager won't create home directories anymore. I could probably do it manually, but I'm not sure how to get all the right skeleton setup in there. But my main question is, why doesn't this work anymore? Why can't I at least get an error message instead of being silently ignored?
I share admin duties with other people, so it's possible someone installed an update recently; all I can really say is that I'm running Leopard Server 10.5.8 right now, and can find out whatever else is relevant.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    ~Ben

Thanks for the pointer to createhomedir - that did indeed do the trick. (How on earth do people find these little nuggets).
I hesitate to mark this as solved however - it's a functioning workaround, but does nothing to explain why on earth the GUI suddenly stopped functioning.
But in the (likely) event that that question never gets answered, thanks again for letting me get on with working!

  • When I press Print (to pdf), nothing happens.  what's wrong with my acrobat? I'm an experienced Adobe user. Today I installed the very latest Acrobat on my PC, and it won't create a pdf.  What might be wrong?

My acrobat won't create a pdf.  Any idea what's gone wrong?

You need to provide more information, including:
    - Exact nature of the problem, including full error messages
    - Version of Acrobat
    - Version of your OS
    - Other relevant information about how you're trying to create the PDF, such as the original file formats you've tried to convert

  • Genius Mix- how do I create a new one?

I deleted a Genius Mix. How do I create a new one?

You probably mean that you forgot your digital certificate password and I presume that this is a self-signed certificate that you yourself created, not a certificate that you received from a Certificate Authority (CA). If this is true then you can create a new self-signed digital certificate (Digital ID in Acrobat-speak) the same way you created the first one: In Acrobat XI it is Edit->Preferences->Signatures->Identities&Trusted Certificates->More. Then click on "Add ID" button and follow the prompts. You can create as many self-signed certificates with the same credentials (name, email, etc.) as you wish. You'd have to figure out how to distinguish them, though.

  • Siri can't create a genius playlist?

I have an iPhone 5S on Verizon with iOS 7.0.4.
Whenever I ask Siri to create a genius playlist based on the current song, it doesn't work. I'll ask Siri to "Play more songs like this" or "genius" and Siri will say that it is playing more songs like the current song, but it never creates the genius list. If I manually create the playlist via the Music app, I don't have a problem. Anyone else have this problem too? Or am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks,
    Chaiya

I've had the same problem since having my 4S on AT&T and now on my 5. Siri responds with "playing similar songs" but the previous playlist or shuffle keeps going. This used to work but I'm not sure which iOS update broke it.
