ATV 3rd gen won't output 1080

My plasma supports 1080p @ 24fps or 1080i@50/60- my 2 Bluray players appear and HD sat box all appear as 1080 sources.  (The panel itself is an older 768x768 but as I said still accepts a 1080 signal)
But ATV only appears as a 750p source, and I'm guessing that its auto detecting that my TV won't support 1080P@25/30/60 etc, just 24.  Is this correct? And if so, can I force ATV to 1080i if I wanted to-I doubt that the chip has been designed to add interlace to progressive material but you never know.

Yes you are correct, the Apple TV does not support 1080i, your TV does not support 1080p at the frequencies the Apple TV does, hence the Apple TV will only display 720p as its highest resolution.

how do i transfer movies from ATV 3rd gen to iMac? help!

    You don't - AppleTV 3 store nothing.
Instead (assuming th efeature is available in your country), you download from the internet in iTunes.
Either on the iTunes store home page or in the Movies category you should find Purchased Quicklinks on the right side of the screen - redownload movies there.  Set download quality in iTunes Preferences.

  • Apple TV (3rd gen) won't turn on...please help

My Apple TV (3rd gen) won't connect to my TV. It blinks 3 times, so i tried to reset it, but nothing happened. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem. Thanks.

Can someone please help me? My apple tv (3rd gen) continues to blink 3 times and won't respond. I've tried doing different things that I've read through the manuel & forms: (1) holding down menu and FF for 6 seconds to pair the remote (2) unplugging the apple tv and waiting 30 seconds
After apple tv was unplugged, it looked fine when it turned back on...but, once again the same problem remains and my apple tv remote will not work.
Hopefully, someone can help me solve this problem.
    Thanks.

  • Home Sharing not seen by iPhone or ATV 3rd Gen

I ran in to this problem before with Home Sharing not being seen by mt ATV 3rd Gen or any iPhone in my household when I upgraded iTunes back in Feb. The solution I found before was in my firewall rules (I believe) for my AV software (I also made changes to Windows Firewall even though it is disabled). I updated iTunes to 12.2.1.27 last night and the problem has returned.
iTunes is signed in and Home Sharing is on. ATV is also signed in and HS is on. My iPhone 6+ can connect to my ATV. I signed all devices out and turned off HS then signed back in a turned HS on with no resolution. I followed Apples directions for removing Apple software in order, then re installed the older version of iTunes that I had saved. Still no luck. I have disabled the firewalls in my router as well as my AV firewall and Windows Firewall is always disabled. I have tried the iTunes "Run as Administrator" solution others have suggested with no luck as well.
It seems like Bonjour is simply not doing what it is supposed to.

GO to programs and feature in your control panel, select bonjour and click the repair button to reinstall it, reboot the pc and if your firewalls on check to make sure bonjour is still on the list. Start iTunes back up and everything should Be working again. I did this yesterday to solve this problem after updating. If things still don't work try restoring windows firewall to default settings to clear the allowed list, then repair bonjour, reboot, re ad Apple software to the firewall list and start up iTunes. I have to do this everyte iTunes updates And it always works for me.

  • MBP Retina issues with ATV 3rd gen

    Hi there,
I have been attempting to use airplay on my ATV 3rd gen on my MBP retina and have not been successful. All my other devices work (ipad, iphone) not sure what the issue may be. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

AirPlay in general or AirPlay Mirroring?
Is your MBP-R running the latest OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)?
Is AirPlay activated on your ATV?
Are your MPB-R and ATV signed into the same Apple ID?
Are your MBP-R and ATV on the same subnet?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Image quality with ATV 3rd gen

Hi.  I have a 2nd gen ATV and am very happy with it.  I use it to stream movies from my iTunes library on my Mac, and occasionally from Netflix.  I recently  bought the 3rd gen ATV.  Over the weekend I used the 3rd gen ATV to stream portions of some movies from my iTunes library to see if I would notice a difference in image quality on my 47" LDC TV.  Some were better (the 1080i HD ones) than with the 2nd gen ATV, most looked about the same, but it surprised me that a few looked worse.
I don't know how to describe the ones that looked worse.  It's not an issue of pixelation.  I believe Hollywood produces films on 35mm or 70mm format, whereas TV and home movies often are on lower quality 8mm or 16mm format.  With the 3rd gen ATV, the movies that I thought looked worse seemed to have the appearance of lower quality 8mm / 16mm movies, rather than of higher quality 35mm / 70 mm movies.  The characters and images on the screen looked more plastic somehow, with less depth.  Any yes, I am talking about 2D images, not 3D.  The movies in question were purchased from the iTunes store in SD format.  They look better on my 2nd gen ATV than they do on my 3rd gen ATV.
Has anyone else had this experience?  Is there a setting I am missing somewhere on the 3rd gen ATV that might cause this affect?  Thank you

SD movies need to be scaled to fill your screen.
If your TV has a 1080 screen and your Apple TV is set to output at 1080, then your Apple TV does all the scaling.
Your Apple TV 2 has a maximum output of 720, therefore your TV had to do some of the scaling.
If your TV is significantly better than the Apple TV at scaling, this may account for what you say.

  • TS2972 ATV 3rd gen, 5.2, have to restart ATV to connect to iTunes library.

Apple TV 3rd gen, 5.2, have to restart ATV to connect to iTunes library. When I go to Computers on the main menu, it says to turn on Home Share on the computer. It is on with proper account name and password. iPad and 2 iPhones connect to iTunes library just fine. iPhone Remote app also works. This has been happening since upgrading ATV to 5.2. Any bug fixes coming soon?

It happens to a very small minority, it's not a bug, it's a problem on your side of things.

  • My iPod 3rd gen won't update past 4.2.1

As stated, my 3rd gen iPod won't update past 4.2.1, is this the cap for iOS on 3rd gen, or can it go higher?

I suspect you have a 2G iPod. Those can only go to iOS 4.2.1.

  • My iPod nano 3rd gen won't sync to my iTunes.

I was charging my iPod when it ended up going to a white screen. I reset it like I was suppose to and that didn't help, so I connected it to my laptop and restored it via iTunes like another post on this forum had suggested. I went back through the setup and did everything the way I had the first time and now it won't sync to my iTunes library. When I go to the iPod tab and select sync, it loads for maybe half a second and stops on my computer screen, then the iPod will show that it's syncing for a few more seconds and then it stops and there is no media on the iPod. Can anyone maybe help me figure this out? Thanks in advance.

I am trying to sync my 3rd gen nano as well with itunes 10 but in my case I can see the removable drive in the Finder. I can eve write files to this mounted drive.
When I connect the same nano to my Windows XP which also has itunes 10 it shows up with the starting config screen.

  • Why dose atv 3rd gen have a problem accessing hidden ssid ?

Why can i not connect my Apple TV 3rd Gen to my wireless which has a hidden SSID plus access via mac address,
My desktop computers, laptops, ipads, phones, androids can all connect after manually entering details.
The ATV will only connect if SSID is broadcasting even with mac address access,

I have tried restarting the router. I've also tried this on a different network and experienced the same results. I guess I should probably contact Support and see if they'll do an exchange.
