ATV and HDCP Compliance

When trying to watch rented content, the ATV says that my connection is not HDCP Compliant and that I should use component cables. I'm using an HDMI cable connected directly to my HDTV. The users guide of my Mitsubishi WD52627 says that the HDMI ports are HDCP compliant. What gives? Is it my HDMI cable?

"This content requires HDCP for playback. HDCP isn't supported by your HDMI connection. Use the component video connection to watch this content."
This is Apple's deal not yours! If your TV is HDCP compliant then all should be well. I know this because mine is and I have been able to watch rented and purchased content up until two-three weeks ago. HDCP is a DRM related deal and Apple has yet to figure this out. I've been on the phone with Apple Care and the guy said uhhhh...I've talked with some other people and it hasn't popped up on anyone's radar. That's BS this forum is full of people affected by it. They don't have a solution as evidenced by repeated emails going unanswered even though through the support website they guarantee a reply within 48 hours.
I've localized the problem to movies bought through the AppleTV. TV shows don't exhibit the same problem and movies that I've purchased with my computer play on the AppleTV. I've purchased 17 movies through my AppleTV and none of them work anymore...after months of working. For me I think it has something to do with the latest iTunes update. None of the hardware has changed and I haven't introduced anything into the setup.
What gives Apple. Enough with the silence...if there's a problem then say so...I can wait. But the silence kills me.

HDCP Compliance Issue, Everything is Compliant Though???

I am having a issue playing Blu Ray disks. I continue to get a HDCP compliance error everytime I try to play a Blu Ray video. I am using arcsoft TMT6 on windows 7. I checked to make sure my monitor and video card are both HDCP compliant, and they both are. I used to be able to watch Blu Ray movies, and I'm not sure what changed, or why I cant watch them now. Also, I used cyberlink BluRay advisor and it said my "software player was not found" and "video connection type is digital without HDCP". Those are the only two problems found. I have a HP 2310 series wide lcd display and have a ATI Radeon HD 5570 video card, and am using a HDMI cable to the monitor. Can someone please help me with this.

The Cyberlink BD Advisor only look for a Cyberlink BD software player. You might very well have a perfectly good BD HDCP certified software player and Cyberlink won't indicate that you have it. Your non-Cyberlink BD player might need updating to play the new BD titles.
The other issue might be a loose or faulty HDMI cable, a bad video card, corrupted video driver or a monitor problem.
Power off the PC and monitor. Check the cables for tightness. Be sure that you monitor has only one video connection and that it is a HDMI cable. Now try a monitor reset by unplugging the monitor's power cord and then hold down the power button for 30 seconds.
If you still have issues then try reinstalling the video card driver or installing the latest AMD driver from the AMD web site.

Mac Mini, HDMI, iTunes Store HD content and HDCP

I have a few seasons of purchased HD TV shows, which of course require a HDCP-compliant display. With the following setup, I can not at present play these shows in HD:
- Mac Mini (2010 with HDMI)
- Monster HDMI cable
- Sony KDS-50A2020 TV
This would leave me to believe that either the cable, the TV, or both are noncompliant.
The funny thing is, the same TV and cable worked with Blu-ray Discs on a PS3. If the PS3 required HDCP compliance to play BDs - which the internet seems to suggest - then that should prove that the cable and TV are in fact compliant.
In either case, aside from replacing the cable and or TV, is there a way to tell what iTunes doesn't like about my setup?

So is iTunes giving you that warning message that you need to use an HDCP compliant monitor?

I figured it out! It was a firewall issue.
I use Handsoff and I checked it before i wrote here. There was no "user defined rule" that denied the communication but when i changed to "All rules" the program displayed several rules regarding AppleTV and its IP.
So if anybody has the same problem make sure you see all rules of your firewall and get rid of the AppleTV related rules generated by the program itself. You dont need to update to the latest iOS on the AppleTV!
I hope that I can help some people with this info to fix the problem.

Purchased movie on ATV and it will not transfer to iTunes computer

A few days ago I purchased "The Blind Side" on my ATV. Watched it no problems. Recently I did however notice that my itunes was downloading the extras content. When I went to look for the movie in the library the only thing there was the extras. I looked on the ATV and the movie is still there. It is only listed on the ATV and not my iTunes computer.
After looking closer I discovered that several shows that I have subscriptions too were also ONLY on my ATV and were not transferring over to my iTunes library. Currently there are now 5 episodes of 2 TV shows on my ATV that are not in my iTunes library. I have tried to sync the ATV on several occasions. I have cycled the power on and off on all machines. Reconnected it to the router and more.
I am concerned about trying other options as I do not want the content to be erased from my ATV. Are there any recommendations?

The same thing has happened to me. I am making purchases only via itunes until this issue is resolved. I had to contact Apple Support to have them "reset" the downloads so I could download them directly into itunes. Please submit a feedback report to Apple so their engineers will become aware of this issue and fix it.

I upgraded ECC 6.0 EHP5 and then try to add-on SAP Product and REACH Compliance 2.0 in SAP ECC 6.0 EHP5.
I aleady knew REACH 2.0 is available with ERP 6.0 EHP5 through Note 1389561 - SAP PRC 2.0: Installation and upgrade for ERP 6.0 and SAP Note 1456663 - SAINT: Enhancement Package 5 components on NW 7.02.
But unfortunately, When I try to install REACH 2.0 using SAINT, The error message was pop-up

Hi Jun,
You could check the upgrade logs and traces at the location ../usr/sap/<sid>/upg/abap/logs.
Check for the latest last changed logs. Mos probably a prerequisite package for the REACH 2.0 installation is not included in the upgrade. The detailed logs should mention which prerequisite is missing.

Storing video on Time capsule and ATV and not on computer

I would like to build my video library and not store it on my IMAC 24 When I back it up and delete it I also loose it from ATV Then I have to restore to watch it Is there any way around this So much storage on the ATV and Time Capsule Why use the computer memory

I previously had my iTunes library on a network drive but moved to it an external drive connected directly to my iMac because streaming and file downloads were slower on the network drive due to the iTune's content management scheme. The short answer is, it will work regardless of whether or not you keep your library on your Time Capsule, your iMac or an external drive.

Can't seen Faces on iPhoto, but can on ATV and iPod Touch!

So, this is very odd. I recently upgraded my Apple TV to the v3.0 software, and synced Faces across. It looks very similar to iPhoto (same cork board, for example), though I don't think the ATV has the actual Faces tech (no focussing on the face during Ken Burns slide shows, for instance).
This inspired me to update my Faces in iPhoto. But, horror of horrors, the Faces feature seemed back at 'Factory Default' -- i.e. 'click here to start adding faces'. I didn't, just in case I wiped the Faces library that is clearly still there (otherwise no sync with my ATV and iPod).
Has anyone any ideas on how to get iPhoto to recognise my Faces library again?

I can reject the faces that do not belong to my children, but the other children's faces keep popping up all the time,

Got new ATV and all set up. It keeps loosing connection with iTunes on laptop and have tried everything suggested in set up guide. It works fine for a while then the iTunes account vanishes from 'computer' menu TV screen. Full Wifi signal on both devices

Sorry, I updated another thread I was a part of but didn't update my own thread.....ughhh!
I updated all of my ATV 2's and 3's to the latest firmware when it was released and have been problem free since. I do believe the major issue of not being able to connect after a period of inactivity has been corrected with the latest ATV firmware.
I can look at my network connection table using "netstat -an" in a CMD window and I do not see the massive number of connections I saw before the update.

2010 ATV and Wireless Router Combinations that Work/Don't Work

I am interested in seeing what configurations seem to work out there (as I am considering replacing my router but am worried that I will still have issues).
Here goes
Symptom: Drops wireless connection/loss of wireless settings
Config: 2010 ATV (x2), Linksys WRT160N, iMac 2009, latest iTunes

Had the same issue with my new Netgear WNDR3700. Seems like my ATV or the Netgear would go to sleep and then I would have to wait over half a minute for the ATV to reconnect and sometimes it would lose the connection password or would not reconnect to the ATV or other devices unless I power cycled the router.
I've since switched to the new Airport Extreme Base Station and everything is working perfectly (so far) including my new ATV2. Connection stays live or at least reconnects instantly when the ATV2 wakes up and the AEBS even wakes up my Lexmark wireless printer for print jobs which the old router wouldn't do. Cheers!
P.S. The AEBS does not have a browser accessible interface and you have to use the airport tools included on your iMac to set it up. Hasn't been an issue so far. Anything this router lacks is easily offset by the fact that it just works which is a nice change from my previous routers. I also keep all my high speed N stuff including ATV and ATV2 locked on the 5ghz radio and let the slower stuff share the 2.4ghz radio. AEBS is simultaneous dual band. Rename the SSID's to different I.D.'s and then you can force your device to connect to one radio or the other.

Best conversion method for video so that it is viewable on my ATV and Touch

I have a bunch of home videos, podcasts, and movies that I would like to put in a format so they play well on my ATV and iPod Touch. The home videos were created in iMovie and shared to my iPod (using the link in iMovie). All play on my ATV, only some play on my ipod touch. Basically I want to convert or create all my video once and have it play on both devices. Any help would be appreciated.

I'd agree too, and indeed where I want video for my iphone I export it as a separate movie. However the OP has specifically stated the goal of having one movie to do all jobs.
In this case exports have to be targeted for the ipod/iphone and not the tv. How this is achieved depends on the video that is being converted. For the types of video mentioned by the OP, handbrake is not the answer.
Where possible avoid doubling up on processing, so from imovie export for the ipod/iphone (this varies depending on which imovie you use. For videos that aren't in imovie, the 'create ipod or iphone version' option from the advanced menu in itunes will do the job in most cases. Other tools you might use are Quicktime or even mpegstreamclip if your source video is either mpeg1 or mpeg2.

Using a iMac to bridge ATV and TC

I am after a bit of advice.. My current network set up is a TC in the office connected to an ADSL router for the internet. My iMac is in another room and has a strong signal to the TC.
I have just purchased a ATV and where my TV is situated the Wifi signal is very poor.. In fact to poor for the ATV to connect to my network.
My iMac is in a room between the ATV and the TC and I was wondering if there was anyway I could use the iMac as an access point to the network?
If not is there any suggestions of a cheep way of extending the range of my network without having to buy an AEBS?

You can purchase apple express for $99 to act as an extension to your network. Good news that it should work as requested! You can set it up to append onto the existing network. Bad news, its 99 bucks

App Store and Corporate Compliancy

Hi All,
What is everyone's thoughts on the App Store and corporate compliancy? If you are an Admin are you going to let your Clients download whatever they want from the App Store or will you remove the application completely?

It looks like you can block users from using App Store.app via Parental Controls but I've never found a way to clone Parental Controls to all my machines.
At this point, it appears we'll need to run "rm -rf /Applications/App\ Store.app" as root immediately after the 10.6.6 install.
IMO, it will be a lot easier to reinstall the app later after we determine it's value, than try to clean up a bunch of Macs should it prove to be a problem to business users.
