ATV and iphoto - can't access a photo file while in itunes to sync to ATV

I have an external HD(xhd) - running out of space on imac. I created a 2nd library for iphoto on the xhd. When in itunes, and trying to sync a group of photos from this xhd iphoto library, the library is "grayed out" when I get to the finder-type box in the sync screens in itunes. So
I can't select anything from this library to sync. If I want to sync from the "main" library on the imac hd
(my original library), all is fine. I have latest OSX, itunes ver 8.1.1 and iphoto 08 7.1.5.
thanks for help.

I stumbled on my own fix: After shutting down the imac and going back to this issue later, I again opened the other iphoto library in the xhd. I looked for a setting to share the library, but found none. However, I then opened itunes again, while this other iphoto library was open on the desktop. I then clicked on ATV again, and the photo tab. It recognized the other library and gave the option to sync to to ATV, but that means it will "unsync" the other "main library's photos." But I assume taht I can later re-sync photos from the main library when I want to later.

There is no upgrade to iPhoto with OS X 10.10.3 - here was an update to version 9.6.1 a few months ago and Photo 1.0 was added with 10.10.3 - what software and which version are you having trouble with - iPhoto or Photos?

  • Lion and iPhoto'11 - where are Original Photo Files?

In previous Mac OSX and iPhoto versions one used to be able to Control click on a photo and get a sub menu which allowed you to go to the folder where the picture file was located. In iPhoto'11 running on Lion that submenu doesn't exist. How do I find the original file so I can open it in, for example, Photoshop, or any other App for that matter?

It is strongly recommended that you do not opoerate that way - it is not supported and is dangerous -  you should not be going diredtly into the iPhoto library to access photos - you can set PhotoShop or any other editor as teh external editor for iPhoto and use it as supported - for other access you should use the media browser (in the lower left ahnd corner of the open/attach window under media ==> photos ==>iPhoto

  • So, I upgraded my iphoto and now can't access my photo library

I thought I needed to upgrade iphoto but now my mac can't read my library.  Did I loose my pictures for good?

    Hey mochalulu,
In most cases when you upgrade your iPhoto application, the first time you launch iPhoto afterwards it will update your iPhoto Library. In rare situations this may have issues. This article explains how to resolve those issues -

  • Help: can't access certain photo files from iPhoto without going via Finder

I have posted a number of files containing jpg photos and whilst I can see them in Finder they are not visible in iPhoto or indeed any other applications making it impossible to import photos into other applications (such as iWeb). I can of course do it manually (copy and paste) but cannot integrate photos as part of web page. Any ideas?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
What do you see when you open try to open the files in iPhoto?
    Do you see a !
    IF so:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • I want to transfer my photos from iPhone to my macbook pro as I have done many times before but I pressed (don't trust instead of trust) accidentally and now can't access the photos at all on the computer.

My phone is an iPhone 4
computer is a macbook pro OS X 10.8.5
When I plugged in the phone it asked me to unlock the phone with my password which I did.
Then it asked if I trust the device and I accidentally pressed don't trust. On the computer ( iPhoto) it told me there were no photos on the phone)
I tried unmounting the phone and retrying but get 0 photos now when there are many new ones.

iOS 7 devices need iTunes 11.1 or newer to sync.  Depending upon your computer and the OS it is running, you may not be able to upgrade to iTunes 11.1 based on the requirements for iTunes 11.1.  What computer and OS are you running your iTunes on?  From the iTunes download pages I see the requiorements are:
    Macintosh System Requirements
Mac computer with an Intel Core processor
OS X version 10.6.8 or later
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store
    Windows System Requirements
PC with a 1GHz Intel or AMD processor and 512MB of RAM
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or later, 32-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
64-bit editions of Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 require the iTunes 64-bit installer
    400MB of available disk space
Broadband Internet connection to use the iTunes Store

  • I can't access raw photo files created with my Nikon D750?

the NEF files are not recognized by photoshop elements.  I just upgraded from version 9 to version 13 thinking this would solve the problem... but still no luck in getting elements to recognize the files.

The nikon D750 isn't supported yet in the shipping version of camera raw, though the 8.7 camera raw plugin should be available soon.
In the meantime you could use 8.7 Release candidate dng converter to convert the files to dng copies, which pse 13 should then open.
(the 8.7 camera raw plugin on the following page won't work for pse 13, so you want the DNG Converter 8.7 Release Candidate)

  • Is ILife 11 the current version today? Will its purchase upgrade my Iphoto 8.2.1 to Iphoto 11? I have a Macbook, Maverick and Iphoto is crashing when exporting photos.  I understand ILife is the way to fix it.

Is ILife 11 the current version today? (May  2014).  ILife 11 on Amazon appears to be 3+ yrs old?
When searching for ILife 11 on the Apple Store, I am directed to a separate purchase of Iphoto version 9.
Somewhat confusing, Apple is always so clear with these things.
The goal is to upgrade my Iphoto 8.2.1 to Iphoto 11.
I have a Macbook Pro, Maverick 10.9.2 and Iphoto is crashing when exporting photos.
I understand ILife is the way to fix it.
    Thanks!

The current version of iPhoto is iPhoto 9.5.1., and it is the latest version of iPhoto '11.
If you are running Mavericks 10.9.2, you can buy iPhoto 9.5.1 from the AppStore - it is the currently sold version.
The iLife bundle is called iLife '11, and the iPhot version in iLife '11 is iPhoto 9.x.x. - that is confusing allright
I have a Macbook Pro, Maverick 10.9.2 and Iphoto is crashing when exporting photos.
While it is certainly useful to upgrade to the current iPhoto version to be fully compatible with MacOs X 10.9.2, there may be a differnet reason for the crashes. Is there an error message with the crashes? When did these start? Did you import new photos or videos? Install other software?

  • I am new to ipad and iphoto.  I edited a photo and then selected undo, to return it to the original.  Now there is a spinning disk on the screen and the program is frozen. What can I do now?  I can still access the same photo through the camera roll.

I am new to ipad and iphoto.  I edited a photo and saved it.  Then used "undo" to change it back.  The thumbnail shows the edited version and the larger window shows the original version.  There is a whirling disk over the orginal version as if the program is stuck saving the reversion back to original.  None of the other features will work.  Turning it off doesn't help.  leaving it on indefinetely so it will "complete saving" doesn't work.  I don't have some of the keys and choices outlined with other posts about stuck iphoto on Macs.  Any help would be appreciated.

Quit the app completely and reboot the iPad. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

  • How can I access deleted photos from my iPhoto Library Cache?

My Macbook Pro broke about a year ago and I recently took the hard drive out to access the files. I have a hard drive enclosure to USB to my Acer (Windows) Laptop. I was looking through all the folders when I came across this: D:\Users\Lizee\Library\Caches\Desktop\iPhoto Albums
In this folder is a list of different albums I have had over the years and in the albums there are photo files, but I cannot view them! This gives me hope that maybe there is a way to salvage and get back some of the photos I once deleted! Please let me know if you know ANY way I can get any of these photos back... I will do anything!

I don't believe there is any way to do what you want. These are not your photos.

  • IPhoto can't access photo library

I recently updated iPhoto. Now it can't access my photo library. How do I fix this?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

  • I am having macbook air recently my iphotos did not open and was showing report apple and reopen but i came to know that by pressing alt and iphotos i open an new photo library and stored the pics but now how can i get the pics which i had in the earlier

i am having macbook air recently my iphotos did not open and was showing report apple and reopen but i came to know that by pressing alt and iphotos i open an new photo library and stored the pics but now how can i get the pics which i had in the earlier photo please help me to recover my photos

    Well I'll guess you're using iPhoto 11:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

After upgrading to Mavericks and iPhoto 9.5 my shared photo streams seem to contain no photos when seen in iPhoto. From iPad the streams are fine. How can I get them to be recognized by iPhoto again?

Disable Photo Stream in the System/iCloud preference pane
and in iPhoto's Photo Share preference pane.
Reboot and reenable both respectively. That should jump start Photo Stream.
