ATV Audio is Horrible

Over the last few weeks the audio playback on my ATV has been very unreliable. Practically everything I stream has horrible audio with dialogue that sounds like people are in a tunnel. Everything I have tried to stream from Netflix is totally unacceptable. Many things that I stream from itunes library on my imac are fine. Other things are not. I thought maybe my ATV had something wrong with it so ordered another one. Same issue. Did a restore. Same issue.  Now I am thinking possibly it's the HDMI cable so I have ordered another one of those. I really hope the cable is the problem. Since I don't have TV and I rely on my ATV as my only source of this type entertainment, it's very disappointing, not to mention frustrating, when it doesn't work right.
Maybe I should get a Roku.
Anyone else having this problem and found the solution?

This is what I am saying, the actual audio quality is good I have already compared and there is nothing wrong with your driver as it gives the good audio output to your headphones. did you also notice that its crazy loud? even puting on the minimum volume it sounds quite loud. Your iMac speakers arn't normal they are $10 speakers. also this high volume has a nagative effect on your amplifer by overloding it cuts off the low frequencies and makes it sound tiny. the only way is if there is a different driver for your mac soundcard. I guess its for all macs the same audiocard or driver. Good Luck!

  • Waveforms look good, audio is horrible

Captured video shot with Sony V1U.
Shotgun mic in channel 1, wireless lav in channel 2.
Monitored capture (via DVCAM deck) on TV--video and audio were fine.
In canvas, clips look fine, waveforms look fine, but audio from channel 2 is muted and noisy.
When clips are dragged in the timeline, shotgun audio directs to A1 and A2, and wireless to A3 and A4. Waveforms for the audio are in A1 and A4. If audio in A4 is dragged up into A3, the sound returns to fine.
Has anyone had this happen before?
Again, during capture, the audio sounded fine.
In FCP, the waveforms look fine, but the audio from channel 2 is very muted.
Once audio is put onto A3 (and not A4), audio sounds fine.
This has happened with previous projects; as long as the audio is on an odd-numbered channel, it sounds fine. If audio is on A2 or A4, it sounds horrible.
    Please help!

Try dropping the audio into Soundtrack Pro. If you have no issues there then you must have a settings problem with your sequence.
You could try right clicking on a piece of footage and select " make multi-clip sequence' this will make a sequence native to your footage and it may help.
What are the settings you are using? Are you recording HDV?
FCP can be quite stubborn with audio.
If the audio is fine in soundtrack pro > export it and play it in the timeline again. If no issues appear then you have a glitch somewhere on the timeline settings I think.
    Anyone got another idea?

  • Atv audio out of sync with computer speakers

I stream music to my atv and to speakers connected to an airport express. My computer speakers and the speakers connected to the airport express are always in sync with one another, but the audio on the atv is always lagging behind. Any way to fix this problem??

could be simply the fact that appletv is re-processing the audio, therefore there is a slight lag.
same scenario is present when watching terrestrial TV compared to satellite TV. satellite TV is usually a second or 2 behind terrestrial due to the extra processing involved.

  • ATV audio (HDMI)

While watching a movie from ATV the unit gets hot. Once hot I losses audio. I have checked the connection. I have also tried listening to music. It just losses all sound. The only solution I have found is to unplug it and let it cool down and restart. Once cooled down it works normally. I know it isn't good for the hard drive but either is getting so hot the it losses sound. Any ideas on how to fix this issue with out buying a chill pad or proping ATV up?

I've seen reports of issues between samsung tvs and the tv, don't know whether its certain models or not, a search for samsung in this forum might reveal more.
It's an HDMI issue, when you disconnect and reconnect you will start a new connection and things will work again until the issue reoccurs. When you disconnect to put it in front of the fan and reconnecting when cool, all you are doing is disconnecting and reconnecting, the cooling is not causing anything to start working.
There is the possibility that you could acheive the same disconnect/reconnect outcome by simply turning the tv off and on again, have you tried it.

  • Has anyone at apple ever heard of regression testing? ATV audio still doesn't work on 4.3.3

I really don't think that there are any software validation principles in place at apple because my Apple TV has now been unusable for over a month due to all of these failed software updates.  Upgraded to 4.3.3 yesterday and it didn't resolve any of my audio issues.  I am using a DVI connection with optical audio out.  No audio on every 4.3 update.  I can get broken audio on the latest update (4.3.3) if I crank my receiver up to 50.  Used to get loud audio on my receiver set to 20.
If anyone is actually testing this software using any known software validation principles, it would amaze me.  Someone needs to give me my money back for this black boat anchor.

    Specifically, the last section:
    Additional Information
Even if your HDTV supports HDCP, you may still experience HDCP related issues when connecting your Apple TV (2nd generation) to your HDTV if:
You have connected your Apple TV to a HDMI-to-DVI adapter that does not support HDCP
You have connected your Apple TV to your TV using a HDMI cable that does not support HDCP
You have connected your Apple TV to your TV via an AV receiver that does not support HDCP
You have connected your Apple TV to a HDMI hub, switch, scaler, or extender that does not support HDCP
None of that is surprising at all. It's what I meant when I said it would be "unfathomable" to assume DVI wouldn't work when HDCP is supported. It would actually require extreme negligence or malice to create a device where DVI doesn't work, hence "unfathomable".
I don't even know where to buy an HDMI<->DVI adapter or cable that doesn't support HDCP. The straight-through $2 adapters and $5 cables from places like Monoprice.com work perfectly and "support" HDCP. I know this because I've used both. ETA: I put "support" in quotes because it's wrong to emphasize this as some special quality that might be hard to find or expensive. You'd have to actively seek out an adapter or cable that does not "support" HDCP.

  • Audio sounds horrible after installing iTunes vers 10.5. How do I restore the audio quality?

  • ATV Audio Only

I want to use ATV3 to stream music to audio receiver only.  How do I control w/o a TV in the loop?

The remote app is used the same way any remote would be, to control and navigate a device.
Apple TV is a media streamer, meant to be connected to a tv.
Airport express is a better option for your needs.

  • Poor Audio in project, when sent from imovie, using itunes

Help! I have my music video all done. I clicked on "create idvd project". When I view my video in iDvd the audio sounds horrible. I am using a song I had in my iTunes library (straight from a cd). This happened for the first time the other day. I just deleted and "resent" and it worked. That is not working with this project. Any solutions? Thanks!!!

I have a similar problem. I created a movie using iMovie HD, using photos from iPhoto, as well as clips and short movies. I added music from iTunes. When I click "create DVD" the project shows up in iDVD completely devoid of any audio at all! I have restarted my computer, and saved the project prior to requesting "create DVD."
    Help!! Whazzup?

  • Audio issues with HDMI connection

I just bought a toshiba 40l5200u (40'' 1080p) and I'm having issues with connecting my macbook pro to it with a HDMI cable. The picture looks fine and everything, but the audio is horrible. The bass specifically sounds terrible, very gravelly if that makes sense. Dialogue is usually fine, but when something loud, for example, happens in during a movie the audio (bass mostly) gets very distorted, scratchy, and just a pain to listen to. The audio sounds perfectly fine when I play a DVD through a dvd player, so it the speakers on the tv don't seem to be the problem.
I was originally using a "Cable Matters Gold Plated Premium Mini DisplayPort | Thunderbolt to HDMI Male to Male Cable in White 10 ft" (here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004CADYDO/ref=oh_details_o04_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&p sc=1). I thought the issue might be with the HDMI cable, so I recently bought a "PNY A-DM-HD-W01 Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter" (here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007B6YPAM/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&p sc=1) and another HDMI cable, "BlueRigger High Speed HDMI cable with Ethernet, Supports 3D and Audio Return" (here's the Amazon link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003XM9774/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&p sc=1) but that didn't fix the problem at all.
What I can deduce is that the problem isn't with the tv's speakers. Other than that though I have no idea. Any suggestions on what to do? I would be very appreciative. Thanks.

It sounds like a software problem. Try updating your Flash software and your audio drivers.

  • Enabling Simultanious Analog and Digital Audio Signals

My apple TV runs through a Yamaha receiver. It is hooked up with component video and digital audio cables. I also need to hook analog audio to my receiver so it can play outdoor speakers through zone 2 (which only recognizes analog signals). Zone 2 does not work when I hook both digital and analog cables. Called Yamaha and they said to look for a setting on Apple TV that enables simultanious analog and digital audio signals. Does anyone know if/how this can be done? Or any other way to make the analog zone work without losing digital on the main zone?

AFAIK, the analog audio on the ATV outputs all the time. The audio output setting in the ATV just determines whether the digital output is Dolby or PCM. Try turning off Dolby in the ATV audio settings and see if that makes a difference. If not, the problem is probably elsewhere.

  • How do I permanantly apply audio noise reduction in FCP X

I have a clip shot on a blue screen set that had some noise in the background (constant hum from air conditioner). The Background Noise Reduction in FCP X, applied at 100%, does a truly amazing job. But there is one huge problem. It appears that FCP X "learns" as the clip is played, perhaps taking it's own noise print of the background noise, and applying it on the fly. Because for every clip I apply 100% background noise reduction to, that clip begins playing and you hear the full audio with noise. After a few seconds the backgroun noise begins to fade away. After playing for about 5 seconds, the background noise is completely gone. And it's freaking amazing. Better than what I've ever been able to accomplish with Soundsoap or other programs. But the fact that it must do this on the fly each time means it is unusable to me. I can't have each clip in my timeline start with noise, then have the noise drop out after a few seconds. Is this a bug? Am I doing this wrong? There are really no settings. You either have Background Noise Reduction on or off and set your percentages.
I am fixing audio on a 1 hour program. Really need this to work. Anyone else having the same problem, or found a solution? Or know what I might be doing wrong?

Does this mean you actually like the audio to sound as though it was recorded under water? I guess it depends on the amount of noise that requires removing, but I've never been able to tolerate more than about 40% before the audio gets horribly distorted.
I really don't share your experience of FCP X removing background noise 'on the fly' (sorry).

  • Multiple Audio out: usb dac audio out and hdmi out

Good afternoon everyone, I have a 2010 mac mini with the following audio set up.
    - A usb dac (xtreamer) connected to my stereo amplifier
    - an Hdmi cable to the tv to get  video and audio diretcly to the tv
Is it possibile by any chance to get simoultanesly audio output both from usb audio out and hdmi audio out???
In "midi preference panel" I tried to create a "virtual" sound card but i am not able to get sound simoultanesly. or via hdmi, or via usb.
this is quite disappointing because if I want to listen to music with the amplifier and then watching a simple video with mac mini and tv only I need to go back to the audio preferences and set up manually each time.
Is it possible to solve this issue???
Thanks a lot and gretings from Italy

I can select ATV audio out (Airplay setting) to either my Airport Express or my computer so it must be transmitting via airplay. Using a combination of Airserver, Airfoil and Airfoil Speakers I managed to get the ATV audio content on both my PC and my Airport Express at the same time but it cuts out the ATV audio.
My aim is to have a movie on ATV transmitting the Audio to ATV AND my stereo (which is hooked up to the Airport Express).
    Cheers

  • Render settings for audio for film in After Effects

    Hi there,
I am trying to export my film with dialogue. My original audio file is in WAV which is CRISP! And when I add it to the video in AE and export it, it reduces in quality atleast 10x!
When I rendered it in quicktime with uncompressed codec, it turned out pretty close to the original.
But the file size was.....3GB!! (The film is 7 minutes long). But when I render it using H.264 using AAC, the audio sounds horrible and rough.
Also, which audio codec do I use? What's the difference between AAC, AAC Version 1 and AAC Version 2? How can I reduce the file size without losing out on SO MUCH quality?
Thanks for the help in advance!
    Cheers,
    Nikhita
P.S: I have used 48KHz, Stereo and 32 float for the original as well as the export settings. It's the codec that's messing things up. So help!

The final audio mixing has been done in Adobe Audition, and exported as a wav file. Is there a standard preset which will not destroy the sound quality while shrinking the file size? I tried using H.264. The image quality is great but the sound is terrible as H.264 doesn't have great audio codecs. What preset should I use for good sound AND good audio with a decent file size?

  • PP CS4: .avi audio/video out of sync

Hi, I just got Premier Pro CS4 because I felt too limited by Vegas Movie Studio.
I started a new project and imported the video files I wanted to use, but I'm having a strange issue. When I import .avi files and scrub through them, the audio will not skip forward, it will continue to play in order from the beginning of the video. Also when I import .avi files, a ! appears in the lower right-hand corner. When I click on it, it says: File importer detected an inconsistency in the file structure of [file].avi Reading and writing this files metadata (XMP) has been disabled.
This does not happen when I use .mp4 files.
I suspect if I converted my .avi files to .mp4, the problem will be solved (I am testing this theory now), but I literally have over 100 .avi files and it's taking a long time to convert one file, let alone 100+.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Do I need a codec? I have a DivX codec installed. Do I need to uninstall it/get a different one?
Thank you for the help! I'm looking forward to using Premier once this issue is settled.

Xvid is the open source version of DivX. They are very, very similar.
I would convert all of the DivX and Xvid material to something that PrPro can handle perfectly. If SD material, on a PC, then DV-AVI Type II w/ 48KHz 16-bit PCM/WAV would be perfect.
While some have actually gotten DivX, or Xvid files to Import, into PrPro, few have been without some fairly major issues, such as no Video, bad Video, no Audio, or horribly out of sync Audio.
Those two CODEC's are delivery-only formats, and are not really meant to be edited later - only viewed.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
PS - I use an older shareware program, DigitalMedia Converter 2.7 (Deskshare), and it works well with both DivX and Xvid, going to DV-AVI. However, Deskshare has vastly updated from version 2.7, so I have no idea how well the new versions work.
