ATV General Bad Behavior

I don't know if I can blame these recent bugs on the new update or a tired ATV - several years old - but I've suddenly got a lot. It started with audio dropping out after one or two songs. Hitting pause and then play usually returned the audio but only most times it was a temporary fix and the pause, play solution has to be invoked every five or six songs or so. Now, every so often when ATV is awakened there's no audio at all and only a restart will bring it back. This combined with the spotty way ATV finds the remote speakers - frequently never finding them without a restart - and seemingly sudden slow movie download times is combining to make me consider trashing it, sending it to the repair shop, downgrading or just seeking other hardware. Thoughts anybody?

I believe that the fundamental problem with the ATV is that the hardware is simply not able to perform reliably under the demands of the current software.
I think 'current software' is the key and maybe has been since Take 2.0.
I always had the feeling that the Take 2.0 interface was a software model overlaid on or wrapped around the underlying playback engine/menus from 1.0 (that itself worked well), with tweaks, enhancements additions, but bolted on and not rewritten from the ground up.
As new features were added each layer of additional complexity was adding to inefficiency which as you say might make the current software too demanding in some instances for the underlying hardware.
To my mind 95% of current development is aimed at pushing the iTunes Store model, rather than improving basic essential playback functionality and networking which I susepct could be optimised further even on the rather underpowered hardware by modern standards.

  • General BADi question:Call BADi in background job/batch input. Possible?

    Hi out there,
i'm using thoe following BADi: /SAPSLL/CTRL_SD0C_R3 (Global Trade Service).
But also, this question is a general question.
If we are calling on screen the transaction VF01, the BADi is called correctly.
But unfortunately it seemes that the BADi is NOT called (im not really sure, cause i can't debug the background task) when we are calling a batch input sequence wth f.e. form bdc_transaction VF01 nothing happens.
Maybe BADi cannot be called in a background task? If it's possible, how could it be monitored. Thare isw no spool entry or anything like that!
    Any answer can help.
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi,
generally BADIs are called in background mode. You can use the following trick to debug your BADI. You just need to create an infinite loop in your BADI implementation. Something like this.
    DATA: l_a TYPE c.
    WHILE l_a IS INITIAL.
    ENDWHILE.
Obviously when your BADI is called in background mode then program will get into infinite loop. You can easily connect and debug running programs from transaction SM50. You need to select your background process and go to Program/Session -> Program -> Debugging. You will jump directly into your BADI methos with infinite loop. Then you will just set value to l_a and you will start debugging your BADI. If you can not find any process then your BADI is not called in background mode.
    Cheers

  • BAD BEHAVIOR

Came in this morning to find 40 emails from last night never sent.
Why?  Because in its vaunted wisdom, Verizon decided that one of my completely innocent emails was 'spam'.
OK, fair enough, even though your algorithm must be completely brain-dead.
So what did it do?  Shut down sending all my OTHER emails.
    That's completely stupid, folks.
And it didn't have the courtesy to email me that it had done this, so I went on assuming my system was functioning normally.
These stupid proclivities of the emailing system are BUSINESS DAMAGING AND UNACCEPTABLE.

  • Bad behavior after installing recent updates.

This has gone beyond irritating and is actually interfering with my use of the computer.
I typically wait to install updates, to give the community a chance to discover trouble before I put my machine at risk. Apple updates are, in most cases, spotless and useful but there have been times...
I seem to have found one of these not so sweet spots.
I just installed: "QuickTime" (7.4.1) and Security Update 2008-001 (PowerPC)
At the end of this process the first disturbing problem happened, rather than being informed that I needed to restart the machine at the end of the installation the screen did that awful 'dark window shade' and then put up the warning to hold down the power button and shut down.
I had no choice but to do this. After restarting I ran Disk Utility and Repaired the Permissions. Despite this and another restart for good measure I now have a disturbing problem. In a very periodic way, its about 1 minute, the finder opens a window and brings focus to it, overlapping whatever application I am working in at the time. I have a number of of drives in this machine and each has several partitions. No matter what partition I choose in advance the finder window always opens with the partition chosen that has the OS and applications in it.
Even writing this post is difficult because the window keeps popping up as a try to write.
I opened the console log and found something odd as well...
    2007-12-24 13:48:25 -0800: Installed "Security Update 2007-009 (PowerPC)" (1.1)
    2008-01-15 23:57:27 -0800: Installed "iTunes" (7.6)
    2008-01-15 23:58:22 -0800: Installed "QuickTime" (7.4)
    2008-02-20 12:27:50 -0800: Installed "QuickTime" (7.4.1)
No mention of the Security Update 2008-001.
I am not sure how to proceed but I am not going to install this on any other machines. I am thinking of running Cocktail but I will wait till I hear from my learned Mac brethren.
    Thanks in advance.

There are no guarantees, but following this procedure when installing updates and upgrades on your Mac will go a long way towards avoiding unpleasant after effects and ‘post-update stress disorder’.
It is also worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site. If your car runs on gasoline you would not want to fill the tank with diesel, so don’t try to install the PPC updater on an Intel Mac!
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.4.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.4.10 to 10.4.11. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them 10.4.10. compliant. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 3.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating to Safari 3.0.4 (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed 10.4.11 and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari. Remember: Tiger up to 10.4.10 used Safari 2.0.4 or, if you downloaded it, Safari 3.0.3 beta. Safari 10.4.11 uses Safari 3.0.4 which is not a beta. If Safari 3.0.4 on 10.4.11 is not the fastest browser you have ever used, then something is wrong!
Moreover, trying to revert to Safari 2 when running 10.4.11 can have repercussions, as Safari 3.0.4 uses a completely different webkit on which other applications like iChat, Mail and Dashboard Widgets etc also rely.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party ad-on. Two such add-on that have been frequently mentioned here for causing such problems are Piclens and Pithhelmet. If you have them, trash them.

  • Bad behavior after spill

Yesterday, I spilled some coffee on my iBook and then immediately embarked on a fast cleanup. It spilled on the kepboard and in the upper right corner, where it was leaking from the screen. I took off the back plate and let it dry off, and came home later to find that the fan was whirring loudly. I took out the battery and pressed the button which indicated there was a full charge. Upon placing it back the computer started with a chime. No data was lost, but if I close the screen, the system will shut down instead of going to sleep as it normally would do. Then I need to take out the battery and then put it back in to start the computer. Additionally, ten minutes after I shut the computer down, the computer will go through the startup noises (without chime) and make the fan go very quickly. What went wrong internally after the spill?
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Liquid on electronics BAD...
First thing, unplug the machine and remove the battery. If there is any moisture inside the computer, electricity is the last thing you want to be involved.
Remove the keyboard to let more air into the case and just let the system dry out for a few days. Yes, I said a few days... minimum. We want every trace of moisture evaporated before we attempt to power up.
Once everything is thoroughly dry, put the battery back in and try to start the computer up. If everything seems to work okay, you can plug the power adapter back in.
Keep in mind, if coffee got inside your optical drive of hard drive, they will likely have to be replaced.
If everything is in working order, consider yourself very, very lucky.
    Good luck.

  • IDoc Packaging + Ack ALEAUD = bad behavior ?

    Hi,
I'm in version PI 7.11 and I'm studying the IDoc packaging of EhP1 with Acknowledgment (ALEAUD).
My scenario is a basic one: File -> PI --> ECC (100 idocs). And then ECC returns Ack.
So for the returned Acknowledgment, I have that:
    - on ECC, I did ALE config, and I run programs RBDSTATE / RSEOUT00 to create one IDoc ALEAUD (Ack).
    - In PI, I use a sender CC (Idoc adapter) by using option "Idoc Packaging".
    - In PI, I use a Sender Agreement with Idoc ECC's ALEAUD and this sender CC.
    - In PI, I use program IDX_ALEREQUEST on ECC's ALEAUD idoc.
    My problem is:
ECC send me ONE idoc ALEAUD which contains 100 segments corresponding to 100 Idocs received at the first step. BUT even if I used the "Idoc Packaging"... in IDX5 of PI, I have not one idoc ALEAUD, but I have 100 Idocs ALEAUD !
And so after that my mapping is run 100 times instead of one ! Image if I need to return an email... with this PI behaviour, I will send 100 "Ack" emails.
So does somebody know why IDoc Packaging does not work with ALEAUD whereas program IDX_ALEREQUEST is correctly used ?
    Thanks
    Mickael
Note: I don't want to have to create a BPM to collect my ALEAUD Idocs. That's too heavy...
And (for the moment), I don't want to create a specific ZALEAUD idoc...

    Hi Prashant,
yes, I did not precise it, but of course IDXNOALE is used, else PI will generate an Ack of this ECC's ALEAUD... so a ack of a ack... but it's not really my problem.
    what I say is:
    - Request : PI -> 100 idocs MATMAS (for instance)
    - Ack : ECC return to PI only one idoc ALEAUD with 100 segments "E1STATE" corresponding to the 100 idocs MATMAS.
    - Ack : PI receive this only one ALEAUD... but in IDX5 and in SXI_MONITOR, we see in fact 100 IDocs ALEAUD with 1 segment E1STATE, instead of having only one idoc ALEAUD (like in ECC side) !
So I'm searching a way to keep in PI the only one Idoc ALEAUD sent by ECC, in order to be able (for instance) to send only one email (and not 100 emails like it's the case for the moment).
    Regards
    Mickael

  • N93 RINGTONE ISSUES AND GENERAL SLUGGISH BEHAVIOR!...

I've been battling with my n93 for about 6 months now and recently got all excited about the release of the 20.0.058 firmware update hoping it would solve most of the phone's catalogue of problems.
One of the most annoying problems for me was the fact the ringtone randomly switches back to the generic Nokia ringtone for calls, then back to the one i selected. Its not just for certain callers or anything like that, I called my phone from a landline several times without touching the settings and found the ringtone still switched between the generic Nokia ringtone and the specified one.
Also switching between menu's is still slow (very, very slow at times!!), especially going into the messaging menu or selecting 'show' for missed calls, messages etc. This problem also seems to be just getting worse. When I first got the phone, the delay between switching menu's wasn't a problem, but it certainly is now!!
Both these problems have persisted since I've updated to the 20.0.058 firmware.
If anyone has advice on how to solve these problems, I'm sure I wouldn't be the only person that would be grateful if you shared it with us on this forum.

Well my friend, im in the same boat as you, I was waiting and waiting for this f/w. I had oringal phone back in october, f/w ver 3 or something like that, I went to update it at the shop and it came back f/w 11 etc..
I used my phone for about a week and the autofocus stopped and also the button on the side froze. So again it went back, 3-4 weeks later i was sent a brand new phone. I was pleased as I though great the new f/w on it too.
How wrong was i, it was f/w 10 etc...
So after reading many discusions telling us not to goto the latest f/w because of the b/w video and other faults. I waited. I did not want to waste my time to goto the shop and get it sorted as Nokia's website said there will be an update.
Feb theres an update, but its the same f/w which people were telling others to stay well clear of.
    So again my phone,
    b/w video
b/w pictures (**bleep**) even in colour there grainy and thats in full light.
the sms function don tget me started..
I send about 10 texts in one go, and it fails after the 1st two have gone out.
I have to then goto the outbox, click on each one and then click resend or send again.
While this is going on, I get a message which says I have a new message, I click on show, and then it freezes the menu, I have to turn off and back on again to get the whole damn phone working again.
The menu's are sluggish, not at all quick like the past f/w version.
The batt well it lasts a day, I bought two and a desktop charger to help matters.
Barcode reader, well full light, waiting for 1min and more for it to produce something is so wrong, whats the point?
    Ring tones,
Somedays its like the speakers shot, or fuzzy, while other days its fine.
    Flash.
Not really much use unless you got your phone in there face, so whats the point in having a light on it? Is is really there as a torch? rubbish!
    Profiles:
I do not know, or cant remember if this was an option here, remember the day where you could have it on silent for a specified time? where has that gone or was it not there?
Oh also, if you do a full backup, and then upgrade online, and then restore, all your songs, videos which have keys, will not work again, even if you still have the orginal keys, they will not re-install. (thanks nokia)
For me thats it after a few days after upgrade. I will post more faults apart from the obvious ones.
    Smiler
Like someone else says in previous posts, maybe if Nokia juse admit that there flag ship phone is a muk up and do a recall and give out either n93i, n95 or even the n97. This will cut down on time they have to keep fixing the n93 and then can work on other things.
Well Nokia customer service did ring me, very shocked....
They asked me what if any problems i had and gave me a range of questions to answer rating on 1 to 5, 5 being best.
So far Nokia, you dont even come on the rating... your well below.
I suppose its what you get if you buy something for money these days and not on tick or hp. You save up or even just think you got to gave the next best thing (as the adverts say it is!!) and then it isnt, whats that saying?
All that glisters is not gold?
    hmm
    anyway

  • Power Point open multiple windows - how to avoid this bad behavior?

When one presentation is opened multiple ppt is also opened. It is told to be a Yosemite issue. Does anybody know how to stop this behavour?

Andrew, sorry, but that's not correct. That was true with the iBook, but the MacBook and MacBook Pro are designed to be able to run with the screen closed. It takes a hack (used at the owner's risk) to keep the MB or MBP from sleeping when the lid is closed, but both systems are engineered such that once the lid is closed and the system goes to sleep, it can be then awakened and run if an external monitor, keyboard and mouse are connected. This is by design and fully supported by Apple. Of course the MB/MBP needs to be in a setting where it gets full cooling; on a solid surface, nothing blanketing the top and nothing blocking the rear vents.
    Regards.

  • Restore windows's bad behavior

It's nice to have the option to have my mac restart just as I left it... except that doesn't happen.
I often have many open apps, like Word, Excel, iCal, Address Book, Mail... but with their windows closed.
For instance, the Word app may be running, but no documents are loaded, and its windows are closed. All I have is the icon in the dock.
So, when I restart my mac with the Restore windows option, all those apps restart, and all their windows open, cluttering my desktop.
Worse still, Word and Excel prompt me to load a document or start a new one. I don't want to do that. I want my desktop to restart as it was: Opening the windows that were open before, and everything else closed.
On Apple's website it says: When you restart your computer, OS X Lion pauses your system so everything comes back just as you left it. All the apps that were running reopen, and windows appear exactly as they were, so you can begin working immediately.
So, is that a bug, or just a stupid implementation of the feature which makes it unuseable?

  • OSX FTP Support generally bad??

    Hello,
I have been using the finder to connect to FTP server to quickly paste some files to my server.. And it does not seem to support write functions for FTP??
    Am I missing something??
I can make and edit HD video clips but I can't write to a ftp site out of the box without using the command shell??

I find the argument that users might do something stupid with FTP or have expectations to be a little ridiculous I can't believe that is the reason..
It is only FTP it not like rocket science. It's worked just fine in windows native client for years.
If its such a big deal there should be a preference that can be set in the finder or something to allow write access.

  • Undo has bad behavior

Why does Mail's Edit->Undo functionality work so poorly? It used to work just as I would expect it to. (Before Leopard? before 10.5.7? I don't remember.) Far worse is that Edit->Redo doesn't actually restore the message to where it was before executing Edit->Undo!
Previous functionality: I think Undo sent back to the last time I had typed the delete key. (Or it went word by word, but maybe I'm just thinking of Microsoft Word.) Maybe it went back to the last return key pressed, too. Not sure. But it really made good sense.
Current functionality: Goes back some amazingly large number of key presses, including delete keys, etc. It's terrible, never what I want.
Is there any way to get back the previous functionality? And/or is it just my Mac's problem?
    Thanks!

  • Bad behavior from  bangladesh

well... the indians have abandon adobe creative cloud... all hope is lost.
all you can expect from adobe support is hang time on your cell phone adding to the cost, time, money and lost effort to install and reinstall the GIANT VIRUS known as the creative cloud.
adobe's difficult to understand tech support never followed up on the case number i was assigned.
i've spent at least 25 hrs trying to reinstall ps with the faulty creative cloud cleaner...
i now believe this software is detrimental to my year old dell precision which btw ran ps perfectly for ONE WEEK!
ps will no longer function and adobe both bangladesh and this community (which stands in because tech support is only available 40 hrs per week IF YOU'RE LUCKY!)
    has been no help...

    Hi,
My application has a message area (JTextArea +

executed after a button click. When a message is

    message:

Problem is: images from another parts of window, like
button clicked, are blinked over JTextArea. If code above

I experimented a similar problem with JTable (and this is my real problem): when speedly moving its vertical scroll bar when columns width is lower than JTable area, portions of window are painted in JTable unused area.
These problems doesn't occur when running application

    whould anybody help?

Perhaps this is due to bug #4412417?

In place there is - ok; idac, biegn?, riding elevator it blaze - already. -Hums by underground passage Pzzechodz?c. Sometime I had affixed (adjoined) radio for with clicks " " slki scan and " " reset - and it got back stations in (to) better Legnicy than n200. There riding car, I could listen RMF FM, it has found stations in (to) 4 merely ( ) MuVo Legnicy autoscan, easy hums took a stand for it during riding car. Exit (outlet) USB it in (to) - complete misunderstanding in respect protection n200. This exit (outlet) is micro USB, which (who) is protected rubber klapeczk?. Surely this thin, rubber will fall away klapeczka - it more, that often USB uzywa and it is necessary to straighten , in order to put cable. I do not know, who has invented this manner of covering USB, but did not have wyobra?ni. But w?tpie, in order to it have recognized (have regard) on gwarnacji, because they will say, that this mechanical damage. It has surprised real capacity of player for this exit (outlet) 20 .MB line-in. As it happens, that quality is completely good < goods (right) >, better, than I expected . Dictaphone just the same - cleanly zgrywa and pretty (beautiful). It about this player my opinions. Precipitous can - but I expected something more, for (after) it more Creative. Yesterday I have exposed (have set out) that on today too 90 zloty my it (them) so many (so much) < rear > n200 allegro-sprzeda?em szcz?scia. Podsumuwuj?c I do not advice - n200. -Has not to count radio on that. Entrance (entry) it defeat USB-klapka. Such not staggering Jako?c dzwi?ku. Exit (outlet) does not compensate just these defects line-in

  • Strange error message in DW CS4

auto is not one of the standard values for this CSS property.
    Use it anyway?
this appears when I open Page Properties menu. If you click
yes 4 or 5 times it goes away. Anyone seen this? I'm also having
lots of crashes and general bad behavior. Are others noticing
    problems like this?

Upload the image somewhere and post a link to it, please.
