ATV Movie rental...no sound on for 1 movie.

HI all,
I rented my 2nd movie via ATV last night and could get no sound at all from it. The 1st movie I rented last week was just fine, and any other content (previews, music, podcasts etc) was also fine so this was definitely just the individual movie, nothing else.
The only difference between this movie and the last one I rented was that this one was HD and the first one was SD, but that may not be the problem.
Has anyone else seen this issue? I am going to call Apple today to try to get the $4.99 back but I thought I would ask.

Similar situation for me - I rented my first movie last week on one Apple TV, and everything was fine. I rented a second film last night on a different Apple TV, and no audio for the movie (all other ATV audio - system sounds, preview, clips, YouTube - are fine)
Both were HD rentals. Both were connected via HDMI. When I tried an optical connection on the trouble film/ATV, I did get movie sound, but it was unlistenable - a very bizarre channel phase/reverbed sound.
I tried all of Apple HDMI KBase HDMI audio suggestions, to no avail - and the fact that all other audio on the unit played fine makes me think its an encoding issue on the film. The problem existed whether I connected the ATV to the display directly, or via an HDMI-compatible AV receiver

discovered the solution from another discussion group.
Double clicking on the "home" button of the iPad opens a list of apps across the bottom of the screen. Moving to the left end of this display there is an audio slide bar which was set to the lowest part on my iPad. Moving this setting to a mid level restored sound to the video feeds I was having trouble with.

Can't open MOV files in FCP: "Searching for movie data in file..."

I know this has been posted before, but none of them seem to match up to what I'm all of a sudden dealing with. I have 4 MOV files that I'm converting to WMV. Movie 1 & 2 exported fine. Now, however, any time I try to open another MOV file, I get an error that it's "Searching for movie data in file..." and the file name is ALWAYS the same. The weird thing is, the file it's looking for is none of the 4 movies I'm working with. So how did the first two work and this pop out of nowhere??
I have cleared out the render cache. Dumped all the cache and prefs files I can find, etc. Restarted the machine. Started FCP with the Option key held down.
I've searched everywhere, but people usually seem to come across this error while opening FCP (I'm running 6.0.6). This only happens when I open a MOV file (oddly, I can open WMV files in FCP without issue).
HELP!

So, I open the movies in QT and the EXACT same thing is happening. So it appears the guy who created the videos did something when he was making them (probably made a reference files along the way). I'm having him re-export the MOV files.
So, it's not a FCP issue.....

On my ATV home screen the menu tabs for Movies does not show nor does Netflix under the Internet tab, I have tried reset etc but nothing works

I think I have a 1st gen ATV. The other evening I got the ubiquitous "Error-HDCP content etc, try again" message. When I logged back in later, the Movies tab was gone from the menu screen as was Netflix under the Internet tab. I have tried reset, restore, unplugging etc and nothing works, any thoughts?

If you had/have Netflix, you have the Apple TV 2.
Check your iTunes Store location is set to the correct location.

Not sure what you mean by exported movie. I use WinX DVD Ripper to convert my DVDs to MP4s to play on IdeaPad. I have to set audio to two channels and it works great.

Cannot access my music library or movie rentals on Apple TV

I am trying to set up my new Apple TV and home sharing is on, I can use photo stream to see my photos but cannot access my iTunes library, no music, no movie rentals. Please help I only have 1 day before my movie rental expires

Unless you rented the movies on ATV I do not think you can watch them on ATV. Where are you looking for your content? i.e. Are you looking under Music or under Computers > Music.

Movie Rentals and Purchases on IPad - What's wrong with this?

Bought my very first Apple product...(IPad 64G WiFi only) last week.
I intended to use it just to keep me busy reading, watching movies, playing games, on all the long flights to Europe and Asia that I take.
So yesterday I excitedly set up an ITunes account, and downloaded 4 movie rentals, and purchased one other movie (Angels and Demons). All HD. I just figure I'd let it run all night and I'd see the movies the next morning.
The rentals all appear to have downloaded, and they show up in the videos section. HOWEVER, they are ALL marked "Expires in 17 hours". Never started watching any of them, why are they already set to expire? The rental info section of Itunes says I have 30 days to start watching, then 24 hours after that til they expire.
As for the purchased movie, th it appeared stuck on the "tap to retry" icon, which I did several times, with repeated errors, until the download icon simply disappeared and no sign of the dowload status or the actual movie anywhere.
I DID get billed for all of these. This is like 40 bucks worth of stuff.
Everyone who uses MAC stuff always brags about how great it is, how excellent customer service is, how things just "work", etc.
Color me WAY not impressed. No answers to my emails sent through ITunes help (yes, I checked spam folder) and no movies for my flight to China this weekend.
Any suggestions on things to change to make it work better next time? OR just buy a **** portable DVD player for 400 bucks less than an Ipad?

Make certain the time and date are correct on your PC.
Click Start and then click Control Panel.
Click "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options" and then click Date and Time.
Click the Date & Time tab.
Make sure that the date and time settings are configured to use the current date and time and then click OK.
Make sure you are running the latest version of iTunes. http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Check the Firewall.
From the Start menu, choose Control Panel.
If the Control Panel is in Classic View, skip to step 4.
On Windows 7 and Vista, click Security; on Windows XP, click Security Center.
Click Windows Firewall.
On Windows 7 and Vista, click Change Settings; if asked for permission by Windows, click Continue; make sure the “Block all incoming connections” option is *not selected.*
Click the Exceptions tab.
Check the iTunes box.
Click OK.
You can report problems to Apple via the iTunes store. Launch iTunes. Select iTunes Store on the left. On the right side of that window select your account name. In the next window click: Purchase History then click: Report a Problem.

Ok, someone please explain this to me. I rented a movie which apple claims we can have for 30 days and after a few hours it is gone!!!
I realized I may have goofed on some type of procedure but I just want to know what I did so that I never throw 4 bucks down the toilet again.

Exactly how long did you have the movie and had you begun watching it and stopped? You only have 30 days to begin using it. Once you begin watching the movie it will be gone in 24 hours. If it went before you started watching it then you should contact iTunes Store customer service about a refund: iTunes Store movie rental usage
The iTunes Store movie rental usage rules are as follows:
You have 30 days to watch the movie after the download completes. You can start watching the movie while it is still downloading.
Once you've started to watch the movie, you have 24 hours to finish watching the movie (even if you start watching before the download is complete). You can watch the movie as many times as you want within this 24-hour period.
The rented movie will expire when either the 30 day or 24-hour limit is reached. Once the rental expires, the movie is automatically deleted. You must re-rent and download the movie to view it after your rented movie has expired.

Apple TV Movie Rentals UK

I have a dumb question.
I understand that the UK is gonna get movies, long after USA, but I just wondered if there is anywhere online we can express an interest in certain movies, just so Apple can pressure the studio's to allow them to be sold over here.
For example, in the states you guys (and gals) have access to all the Pixar movies, yet we in the UK only have 2.
We have none of the Die Hard series, only 1 Bourne movie, etc.
I understand that we are at the whim of the studio's as to when movies will be made available over here. But if we had a way of highlighting to them what movies we're interested in seeing, then it should ease their decision on when to release over here.
Just a thought.

When the US movie rental service was announced they dropped the US price significantly. This has not happened in the UK which is a shame, particularly with the Take 2.0 interface being extrenely iTunes Store centric vs the previous interface which was designed around your media in iTunes (purchased or home made).
For a device that's almost 18 month old, I think the price is starting to look rather high now that it's gone from a media extender (which is still is, and a great one) to a rent/buy online from Apple type sales pitch.
The economic climate isn't great, and if people are short of cash then from a rental perspective £200 up front for the privilege of renting from your armchair is steep, and they'll keep going to blockbuster or wherever and save the £200.
I personally think that AppleTv's a very sophisticated device for the price, but when people these days regard a DVD player for £20 from Asda as good value, then justifying £200 for an AppleTV isn't really going to happen for the average man on the street.

Movie Rentals HDTV

I rented a movie on itunes and downloaded it to my phone. Then I attached my iphone 4s to my HDTV via a VGA adapter and started the movie, it played fine for 3seconds and looked great. THen it stopped and said itunes movie rentals are not authorized for this TV out displasy device. Is this some plan to force people to buy apple TV or if there something else wrong? Any ideas, thanks?

Movie Rental can't transfer, because went to another device

Just de-authorized old computer & authorized new one. Purchased songs & movie rental. Songs transferred, but movie will not. Window saying it was already transferred to another device. Help!

You cannot transfer a rental to another computer.

When are the rentals going to start for this?

Movie rentals are already available for the US, the software upgrade for the tv will be about 2 weeks.

Movie rentals that I downloaded onto iMac with Lion to do not show up on ATV 2 in menu for computers. Purchased movies show up just fine. What to do or look for?

I have an imac that is running lion and an Apple TV generation 2. I have rented a movie from itunes and it shows up on my imac in Itunes under a rental icon, and will play fine on my computer. However, it does not show up as choice to play on my apple tv. I have homesharing enabled and everything else works fine including purchased movies that are on my imac, but no where does it show rental movies.
What do I look for? What do I do to play the rental movie on my apple tv 2?

Answer to my own question:
Wait until the downloaded rental has completed its download to the imac. This took a long time for me, since it was part of several things that I was downloading at the same time.
Finally, it showed up on my apple tv. Interestingly, I was able to watch much of the movie on my iMac before the movie finished its download and was available to the ATV 2.

ATV great for movie rentals- hey apple here is a suggestion

Got the apple tv for movie rentals and it is really great. So much better than ordering a movie through my cable box.
Apple you should have a request box so users can request a movie be put on atv. Also it would be great if you had a coming soon section so we as users know when to expect a movie to come out.
This past weekend I wanted to rent back to the future... a classic movie. Not on atv. But war games was.
Also the movie the Kite Runner just came out on DVD. I was wondering if or when it will be on ATV. it would be great if Apple provided this info.

The party line from Apple is that movies from the partner studios will be available 30 days after the DVD release.
