ATV no longer shows in devices list

Is there a standard checklist to go through where everything must be right before ATV will show in devices. To try and fix i have done factory restore on ATV, re-installed i tunes on PC, reset router. Still no luck. I am running a VPN router also. Every thing was fine until a couple of weeks ago but don't know what changed. i tunes is also set to look for ATV.

Same thing happened to me several months ago. iTunes seems to suddenly drop ATV for the Devices list. Doesn't happen when I'm watching streamed video, just when the iTunes mac has nothing to do. It is not set to sleep. If you search this forum, you'll find countless posts describing this problem, with some that offer solutions. Trouble is, a solution for one person is a failed attempt for another. I'm still trying to figure this out.
There are so many variables involved; wired or wireless connections, how many routers used, where is the iTunes library and files (on the server or attached directly or mounted), on and on.
For me the usual fix is to close iTunes and invoke it again. That finds ATV and adds it to the Devices list. On rare occasion I have to unplug/replug ATV.
Good luck.

  • I have removed my iPhone from icloud and it is no longer on the device list however I can still see it in icloud settings

I have taken my smashed (unusable) iPhone into apple for repair today and followed their instructions beforehand, removing the phone from icloud through my PC. However the guy at apple could not do anything as he said it was still connected to i cloud. On checking my account, my phone is no longer on the device list but can still be seen in icloud settings. He was stumped and asked if I had set up another apple id and maybe forgotten about it (I definitely haven't, I've had the same account for 6 years,) his other explanation was a technical glitch. I'm now stuck with a broken phone and a £60.00 a month bill and also pretty annoyed about the wasted 3.5 hour round trip. Any ideas please?  It would be much appreciated

    Hello
Try restoring the device and setting up as new.
If it is still shows an iCloud activation lock, then it's on an iCloud account
The wrong device was removed from an iCloud account.
Check any other Apple IDs you might have at
                 iCloud.com
Get signed into them and remove that device.
I wish this was the first time I seen this.
    Best of Luck

  • Apple TV (1st Gen) no longer seen in device list in iTunes 10.4.

Apple TV (1st Gen) no longer seen in device list in iTunes 10.4. I can see it in the multiple speaker list and I can connect to it that way,  it is not seen as a device in order for me to sync content. Any ideas?
    I've tried:
    1.) rebooting my network
    2.) rebooing my AppleTV
3.) Running diagnostics on my AppleTV (everything is working 'fine.')
    4.) Rebooting iTunes
    5.) Rebooing my computer
    6.) .....
    Please help.

Check the firewall allows access for iTunes, try disabling the firewall if necessary. Try restarting the router.
Also try de/re connecting your iTunes library from your Apple TV; disconnect from the Apple TV (Settings/Computers/Your_Library) and reconnect again (Settings/Computers/Connect_to_iTunes) - You will need to re-sync previously synced content.

  • TS4006 Used find my ipone to erase a lost 4s and the device is no longer in the devices list.

I put in a request to have my iphone erased, it was offline at first but when I logged back in to check on it,  my device was no longer in the my devices list. I did not receive a confirmation email. Why is it no longer in my devices list and is there any way to tell it has been successfully wiped other than the confirmation email?

  • Apple TV no longer appears in devices list

    Hey all:
I'm having a very frustrating problem with ATV and iTunes. I can no longer see the Apple TV in the devices list. Now, I know that there are two Apple Support KB documents that cover this issue. I've already gone through everything in those. I've reset the Apple TV back to factory defaults. I told iTunes to 'forget' the Apple TV. I have attempted to reconnect the Apple TV all to no avail. I even uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it thinking that all of the plist files would be deleted because I use the Hazel app's App Cleaner function to get rid of the plist. The plists were all deleted as I expected them to be.
As a control, I attempted to have my partner's Macbook sync with the Apple TV. That worked just fine. iTunes on her machine shows the ATV and synching worked perfectly. I quit the sync told her machine to 'forget' about the ATV and then restarted iTunes on my machine. Still no joy. What's even more bizarre is that I can stream from iTunes to the ATV so it's not a network problem. (Plus I can see everything else on the network. My partner's Macbook can see my iTunes library and I can see hers so it's not a sharing issue.)
This leads me to believe that somewhere there is some plist or xml file that controls what iTunes 'knows' about the Apple TV. Does anyone have an idea what file that might be and if it is a plist, what needs to be edited or what file needs to be deleted so iTunes will think that the ATV is brand new?
I want to reiterate that I've already reset the ATV to factory defaults (three times) and told iTunes to stop synching to the ATV as well so it's not something I haven't done. I searched through ~/Library and the system Library locations and didn't see anything that was obviously to do with ATV and iTunes. Any assistance would be appreciated. I've troubleshot this as far as I can go.

No, I don't have Netbarrier X. Ironically, I uninstalled Intego Virus Barrier X6 thinking that might be the problem but it isn't. There's currently no software firewall running on the system at all. The one thing I've been able to discern, so far, is that my partner's Macbook can connect and sync to the ATV and the only difference is that she didn't download the latest security patch (2010-001) that came out on Tuesday and I did. I've let Apple Support know but their response was "we haven't heard anything about this". However, since that is the only significant difference between our two machines and hers can connect at this point I'm presuming that's the issue.

  • Apple TV didn't show in device list  (and how I got it back.)

    Hi all,
I just went through a lot of work trying to figure out why itunes stopped showing my appletv in the device list and wanted to post this information in case someone else has this happen. Initially I thought it was iTunes 9 (which I ruled out because one of my old PCs still had itunes 7 or 8), but what it ended up being that when I installed Snow Leopard I did a fresh install, which erased the library the appletv was sync'd with. Basically, the appletv could not find the library it was previously associated with (why it stopped showing up in the device list for multiple computers I'm not sure.)
The solution was to go to "Computers" under settings, and disconnect from the computer the appletv was previously syncing with (note, this does clean off the appletv, but all your settings are retained) and add it anew. (Once you get to the screen where it gives you your five digit code it should show up in the device list again.)
So if you're seeing the behavior, you might want to try this. Hopefully this will save someone else some time.
    Justin

the options for sycning are not under the icon they should be in the panel to the right of the screen in many tabs that contain the sync options for each media type (Movies, Music, Podcasts etc.) i.e. when you click on the appleTV icon, tabs should appear to the right (where all your movies etc in iTunes would normally appear).
there are two options when you go into computers on the appleTV.. the one on the top i think it link to itunes library (this is the one you want as this will make it a syncing library).. the option just below this is "share iTune library" or something like that will result in that library streaming only... so hence it will not have any syncing options..since it's streaming only.
once you press the link to... get the code, enter into iTunes.. choose custom sync in the summary tab.. uncheck show only synced items on appleTV (this will allow you the library to sync and stream... item not synced will be displayed on the appleTV and will be streamed when clicked on.. as long as iTunes is open and computer on).. the tabs i mentioned above will appear on the right hand panel on the iTunes window and in each tab you set the options for sync for that particular type of media.

  • Apple TV won't show under Devices list in iTunes

My Apple TV is on wireless network and it shows as connected to the network. When I open itunes the ATV does not show up under "Devices". Firewall is turned off on the router and Windows firewall is turned on but Apple TV is listed as an exception. A couple months ago I had no problems with Apple tv showing in itunes. Many shows synced to the Apple TV but now almost all those downloads have disappeared and don't show in ATV or itunes. No new purchased shows will sync to ATV. Both ATV and itunes are updated.
Any solutions to this problem? Thanks.

I had the same problem. Broke the link to iTunes but then couldn't see the Apple TV anymore. Here's how I got it to show up again....
    Go to iTunes / Preferences.
Select Apple TV from the icons at the top of the preferences window.
Ensure that the Apple TV is deleted by selecting it then clicking the "Remove Apple TV" button.
Close iTunes completely by selecting iTunes / Quit iTunes from the menu.
    Reboot the Apple TV.
    Restart iTunes.
Go to Apple TV and select Setting / Computers.
    Select "Connect to iTunes".
You should see a screen with five numbers asking you to connect to iTunes.
Check in iTunes on the computer and the Apple TV should be listed in the devices.
Click on the Apple TV device to set up the connection.
Key in the number that's shown on the Apple TV screen.
    Set up the syncing again.
Unfortunately this causes all of the data to have to be resynced. It effectively starts again as if your Apple TV was new but forces it to show in iTunes again.

  • T500 Laptop Model 2242-CT0 - Integrated Camera No Longer Shows in Devices

Laptop is about 14 months old. Integrated camera was working fine.  I was using Skype the other day & it could not find the camera. I went into Devices & uninstalled the driver. Then the camera disappeared from Devices altogether.
I downloaded/installed the latest driver for the camera:  version 1.32.500.0 (7tca23ww.exe), rebooted, but the device list still does not show in devices (yes-"Show Hidden" is selected).
    Running Win 7 64 bit.
Latest updates for windows are installed.   I periodically get an error message popping up that "Device driver failed install", but that's it.
Attempts to run hdwwiz to install the camera were not successful, as I do not see any "Camera" listed under the Ricoh drivers section.

    Hi HLemieux,
I researched your issue and this is what I found from the Lenovo Assisted Search:
"If your webcam on your laptop is not working, try these following steps:
    1. Be sure your webcam driver is installed. (It can be found at http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/ot/en/DriversDownLoads/Drivers.html)
    2. By checking the webcam if it is disabled by Fn+Esc.
If you see the cross line on the webcam sign press to Fn+Esc to enable the webcam.
    3. If you do not see the webcam sign on the right corner of display after pressing Fn+Esc, be sure your Energy Management is installed. (It can be found at http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/ot/en/DriversDownLoads/Drivers.html)
After you download the Energy Management driver from Lenovo Website, install the software.
During energy management installation if you see the window as below “Utility” must be selected for Fn hot-key application (Utility is a software package under EM)
    4. After installation of Energy Management please perform step 2 to enable Webcam if it is disabled."
Try this and let us know how it works for you.

  • External Hard Drive no longer showing in Devices

My external hard drive no longer shows up as a device on my MBP. It has worked fine since the day I plugged it in.
The Time Machine is using the HD, and continues to do it's backups, so power and USB connection is not an issue
The HD shows up in Disk Utility (The Time Machine portion AND the partition that I've been using for storage)
I ran a repair on the partition in Disk Utility and it checks out OK
I can access this partition from VMware Fusion, so the windows side of the MBP sees it, and it's operational
Used the HD all day yesterday without issue
I've restarted the MBP to see if it would find the HD partition after a restart, it doesn't
I've unplugged (USB) and powered-off the HD, and when I power-on, it still isn't seen.
    Any ideas?
    John

If TM is turned on and it still doesn't show up then do a SMC reset.
    SMC RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
    Wait 15 seconds.
    Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
    PRAM RESET
    Shut down the computer.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • External Hard Drive not showing in Device List

I'm having a problem with an external HDD on my Macbook Air under Mavericks
My External drive is divided into four partitions - the problem is that one of them is refusing to show in the Sidebar "Device" list in Finder
The missing partition is showing in Disk Utility, Terminal and when clicking on the Machine Name under Finder (top level)
Disk Utility reports the disk as being OK.  SuperDuper can see the disk as a target.
    Any suggestions?

Matrox drive.  Was fine under 10.8
Formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and is mounted as a drive under Finder Machine name and Disk Utility.
The one thing that I see under Disk Utility that differs to the other partitions is that Owners Enabled is set to Yes

  • AppleTV quit synching, no longer in iTunes Device List

Darn. Just realized my AppleTV hasn't synched to my MacBook Pro for 3 weeks.
In AppleTV settings, it shows that it is linked to: JP's BigBook Music. In iTunes, my music library is called: JP's BigBook Music
However, my AppleTV does not appear in the iTunes device list. I have "look for AppleTVs" checked on. I can stream music from my MacBook to AppleTV via AirTunes. I can connect and control the AppleTV from my iPhone.
What the heck? I'm tired of this.
    Jim

Wifi channels are approximately 5 Mhz apart, but each channel is around 30 Mhz wide, so unfortunately they tend to overlap which means that channel 4 (say) and channel 6 can still interfere with each other to a certain extent. How much they can interfere depends on the equipment, I have networks using channels 1, 4, 7, 10 and 13, so theoretically they all overlap, but I don't have any issues at all with my Apple tv's or any other equipment for that matter.
Other household equipment such as microwave's cordless phones, baby monitors, garage door openers and the like can all use similar channels and can be almost impossible to detect without specialist hardware. Additionally due to the nature of the Apple tv it is often located to other electrical equipment which might cause a problem.
If you've ruled out interference, it may be that the settings on your AP's need attention, however I doubt that I've just been lucky to the extent that I have numerous Apple tv's here at home and at work that have been problem free when others have gotten wonky units. I suspect there is a reason for your poor performance other than the Apple tv itself.

  • How I Solved the Problem of ATV Disappearing from the iTunes Devices List..

When I purchased the ATV early this week, it was running fine until I tried to change some settings i.e. making my macbook sync to an external HDD.
That's when the problem starts... I cannot see my ATV in the iTunes device list anymore!
Tried all the various tips in the forum but to no avail.
The weird thing is... if I set the connection like this..
Macbook --- Time Capsule --- ATV (Failed to see ATV in list)
Macbook --- ATV via Ethernet Cable (OK but problem of firewall error etc)
Macbook --- Time Capsule (connect with Ethernet) --- ATV (Sometimes ok but have firewall problem)
I can "see" that the ATV connects to the Time Capsule with no problem.
However, when I tried to "ping", I found out that my Macbook cannot ping the ATV thru the Time capsule even though I can "ping" other computers connected to the TC. In this case, the ATV got the IP address via DHCP.
The moment I changed to "Manual" IP settings, I can PING!!
That's when iTunes can list back the ATV in the devices list!!
Hope this helps for you guys.

That info has already been posted in the other threads. Tried it previously and still didn't work

  • Brand new iPhone shows in Devices; iPod touch no longer shows in Devices

I bought an iPod 4 today and was able to sync it with my existing iTunes library. I connected to USB port, it showed in Devices & in My Computer (XP), no problem.
However, my iPod Touch, 8 months old, will NOT show up in iTunes or My Computer now, and I have NO idea why. I did ALL the troubleshooting, including uninstall/reinstall iTunes, restart computer, etc. If the USB works for iPhone, I assume THAT is not the issue. After 5+ hours working on this, I am over it and wish someone could help. Apple sent me to all the troubleshooting articles and now they are closed.
    ???????

    Start here:
iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
I would first remove and reinstall all the Apple software by:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
The drivers in windows that sees the iPod as a camera is different that the drivers that see the iPod in iTunes.

  • AT&T U-verse WiFi doesn't stay connected ATV no longer shows Netflix on menu

I just got the AppleTV 2 last week and expected it to jump onto my wifi connection as easily as the Roku does, but so far no luck.
First, even though it saw my wireless network immediately, it wouldn't accept my password.  i know it is the correct password as i have several other devices connected.  I gave up, came back to it the next day and it was connected to the wifi and showing complete menus.  i had done nothing.  i was able to connect with "Remote" on the Ipad as well as watch one show on Netflix.  Then it indicated that an update was available for my apple tv.  it started to update then shut down.  I turned it back on and Netflix was not even a menu item under Internet any more.  I restarted my router and the ATV and then it couldn't find the wifi again.
That's where I am with it now.  Is this Apple?  U-verse?  Netflix?  Can an apple store test the device to see if it is a hardware issue?

I have a similar problem. My Wifi connection to the Apple TV now gets lost daily, even when "sleep"is set to "never". On reconnecting to my network in the settings menu I no longer get "Netflix" in the Internet menu and no menus at all for "Movies" or "TV Shows".  A Reset seems to fix it for an evening but the login to the wifi and reauthorizing Netflix every time I Reset makes my Apple TV nearly useless. The Apple TV was new 12/10. I'm on Comcast. Belkin router was new 7/09.  I'm using a new 27inch iMac running Lion. (I had not used the Apple TV much until very recently so I don't know how well it worked originally.)

  • IPod no longer shows as device

My first visit to iTunes interface in about a year.  (Tired of the songs living in my iPod; time to remove them and replace with a different batch from my purchased music).  The iPod is plugged into my Mac, but it does not show as a device in the left-hand column.  The last time I used the interface, it showed as a device.  I simply dragged songs into it, or deleted songs from it.  Is there a tutorial showing the new method?  Thank you. iTunes 11.0.2(26).  Mountain Lion.
    - Robert

Do you have the Sidebar showing? (View > Show Sidebar)
It's off by default in iTunes 11. Connected devices are instead listed under the Devices button in the upper right.
