Here's the scenario:
My Apple TV is too small to hold all my media, so I've got a 500gb external sync'd to iTunes to stream it.
At the same time, I have an Airport Express streaming music from iTunes to wireless speakers throughout the house. To control this, I use a webapp for my iPod Touch that lets me decide which speakers should be 'on', their volumes, change tracks, etc.
In a perfect world, someone will tell me how to let Apple TV do all this heavy lifting for me without the need for a PC running or iTunes. Some questions:
1. Will Time Capsule wirelessly sync to Apple TV so that my PC never has to be 'on' to stream my massive media collection?
2. Can Airport Express get its content from Apple TV instead of an instance of iTunes?
3. Can I use the wi-fi connection via the iTouch to control the music on Apple TV or will that only function via an instance of iTunes as well?
Simply put, I want to be out of the iTunes business when it comes to listening to music or watching movies in my home. I want to boot up ATV and use my iTouch to control it and all the wireless audio in my house. Possible?

If you are using the Apple TV to stream the content from your iTunes collection, then you could use a webapp (such as Signal) to control what your iTunes is playing and have the album art from iTunes show on your TV. You just change the source in the Apple TV menu.
You cannot, however, control the Apple TV directly with a webapp, use it as a wireless server to send music to other destinations, or sync to Time Capsule. Apple has not designed the Apple TV to be backed up. The intention is that everything comes from your computer.
You could use an Airport Express to stream music from your computer to another room, and (I think) you could have it streaming through the Airport Express and the Apple TV at the same time, though i haven't tried this. It looks like it should work.

ATV As a Time Capsule

Is there a way I can use the hard drive on my Apple TV as the Time Machine drive for backing up my MacBook Pro? I talked with a sales rep, and she though there was a way, but I can't find it in any manual. Do I need to partition the drive or just create a new folder on it, if this is possible? And if it is, can I use it as a networked drive?

No.
Don't even consider it.
The whole point of a backup is that it should be reasonably reliable and easy to use, so even if you could hack the device to work, you would not want to find out the hard way that it was a bad idea and things were hosed.
External USB storage is ridiculously cheap, that would be a far more sensible route or get a Time Capsule if you want network attached device.
The drive in AppleTv is slow, low capacity and in all likelihood consumer grade reliability whereas Time Capsule supposedly has more enterprise grade hardware.

ATV 2 and Time Capsule-Choppy Streaming

So I am using my Time Capsule as my wireless router and as an external hard drive. I am streaming my TV shows/movies (I converted them to mp4 files) from my TC to Apple TV via iTunes and it's awful; choppy like every 10 seconds or so. Not sure why this is happening.
Any suggestions?

Probably the network being too slow. Anything changed recently?
If media is stored on the network there is theoretically more traffic as Itunes feeds AppleTV the movie.
File on computer's drive > iTunes > Network > AppleTV
File on network storage > network > iTunes > network > AppleTV
Try copying one of your movies to iTunes but change preferences to store on the computer drive. You could open a test library using alt/switch key when you open itunes to try this. Does that help? If not must be something else.

How can I put my itunes library on my Airport Time Capsule 3TB and still play thru Apple TV?

I am trying to free up space on my 1TB iMac and would like to put iTunes/burned movies/music to Airport Time Capsule 3tb. At the same time I would like tobe able to play said media through my Apple TV.

Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings: Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive. Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to select a library, then guide it to the 'iTunes Library.itl' file in the moved iTunes folder.

Can I connect my iTouch to the Time Capsule?

I am hoping to connect my iTouch to my Time Capsule, so the iTouch will sync with iTunes via the network. Is this possible? I have attached the iTouch to the Time Capsule USB port, but when I open iTunes, my iTouch does not appear.
I contacted Apple Support a few weeks ago about this. The suprisingly unhelpful fellow said that it was not a Time Capsule issue and that if I wanted help, he could redirect me to the iTouch support contingent. If he transferred me, though, he warned, I would have to pay a fee because my iTouch was more than 90 days old.
Honestly, I was miffed! I would think Apple Support would help me connect other Apple peripherals to an Apple peripheral, for the Time Capsule is only 1 month old and eligible for free support.
But enough ranting, any advice?

Another question you could perhaps help me with. I am using my TC as an external hard disk as well. I will want to purchase another hard disk to back up the data on the TC. A 500 GB disk will do. Should I get one with an external power source? Or a plug-and-play?
I tried to do this with an older hard disk drive, but the TC would not recognize it. I was able to do a back-up by connecting the TC by ethernet cable to the computer and the hard drive by USB to the computer. But I'd like to get a drive that the TC will recognize and use CCCloner to back up automatically my files on the TC to an external hard drive. I would like to connect the hard disk directly to the TC via an ethernet port or the ideally-and-sensically-free USB port.
As a test, I just plugged a USB key into the TC, but the TC does not recognize it. When I plug it into the MacBook, the MacBook does recognize it. It is formatted as FAT32. I am nervous about purchasing a disk that the TC won't recognize.

HELP! Virgin modem in UK - fails to talk to Time Capsule

My previous Virgin modem (Scientific Atlanta) was connected to my Airport Time Capsule and worked perfectly well.
Virgin sent me a new modem (just better performance I understand) recently. I did say to them that I'd heard there were some problems with this new modem and the Macs, but I was assured there were no issues....why did I believe them??
They have registered the new MAC address for the new modem (that activates it) and the new modem itself is working fine (Virgin's modem, but says it is made by Ambit) and if I connect this old 10.4.11 MacBook Pro, I can get online and look for a solution (no luck so far) and create this post.
The Time Capsule (version 7.4.1) is also working fine and sending out the signal, but the two don't appear to be talking to each other!?
The Network Diagnostics report shows the three top Airport signals/settings as Green positive dots, but the ISP and internet connections below that are Red dots.
When the Airport Utility window comes up (saying it has a problem) and I run through each page to try and remedy, I get to a stage where it states:
"The Apple wireless device doesn't have any DNS server addresses and might have trouble connecting to the internet."
But there are two spaces below and one does have a DNS address in there (10.0.1.1).
But if I click continue, the problem doesn't appear to have been resolved and it justs asks me to restart the modem... I do but it makes no difference and it's just a repetetive cycle after that!
I need my computer online to work, so I am really stuck now. Virgin wipe their hands of this under the basis they do not support 3rd party routers... thanks a lot Virgin!!

Yes, I powered off the modem every time and even did them in sequence, i.e. switched on the modem first, waited till it powered up fully, then powered up Time Capsule and then the MacPro.
If switch from my laptop to my daughter's laptop (both Macs) using the ethernet cable, I have to restart the modem as it just doesn't connect. So I know your comment is correct.
I wonder if it would work if I reset the TC (factory settings) and then try and connect the modem again? As I'm sure it's something to do with the settings on TC - would I manually need to input a DNS setting as it's requesting?

Often, this error can be corrected by pulling the power on the Time Capsule, waiting a few minutes, and powering the Time Capsule back up.

I can connect the itouch to other wifi's, but not to the Time Capsule. Can I assign the time capsule and the itouch with a static address from the time capsule to the iTouch?

Yes but I would first try:
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections
iOS: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
Do other devices usccessfully connect to the TC?
DOes the iPod see the TC?
Error messages when you try to connect?

Time Capsule Airport Express AIRTUNES!

I currently have a Time Capsule (not the current version, the older version). I want to be able to use AirTunes to connect my speakers to something like an Airport Express so that I can control my music wirelessly. If I connect an Airport Express to my Time Capsule with an ethernet cable, will AirTunes work?

Yes. The Express would just need to be configured to "Join a wireless network" using the AirPort Utility. In this configuration it would join the wireless network created by the TC.

AppleTV - Time Capsule - MacBook Pro

I am using Time Capsule as a wireless router. ATV connects to Time Capsule wirelessly with no problem and my MacBook Pro connects wirelessly to Time Capsule with no problem either. Problem is, I cannot see ATV in iTunes devices list in wireless mode. If I connect an ethernet cable between my MacBook and the Time Capsule and leave ATV wireless, everything works perfectly and ATV appears in iTunes devices menu. The moment I go wireless on the MacBook, no ATV in iTunes but Time Capsule still connects to the MacBook and ATV.
Any ideas?

I would bother trying too many. Channel 11 is used by many wifi manufacturers as their default, so it might be worth giving that one a miss, Channel 12 and 13 aren't available in some locations so you might want to avoid those too. But generally any of the networks your tv can see could be set up on any of the channels.
Are you using the TC as your DHCP server or do you have another router.

Can two Macbook Pro's share the same Itunes folder(all media in Ituens) on an external drive (like Time Capsule)? How and what issues may arise?

Hey, I have two macbook pros (250 gb). They are both running out of space. My first thought was to share an iphoto library off of Dropbox or our Time Capsule. But, I heard that if one file gets corrupted (interenet cuts out, for example) then the whole library gets corrupted. Well, we're full again and now I am wondering if I could move our Itunes folders to our Time Capsule, sync/sort them both so there won't be any duplicates and then use this as a shared itunes library. So first, is this possible? Both computers share the same itunes account.
Second, if I do, and I purchase a song, show, whatever, does it automatically be added to the itunes library on our Time Capsule and then it is available for both computers to access? Or do I need to "import" it on both?
Third, does the "file corruption" issue listed above pertain to itunes?
I saw a discussion about this but it was form 2008. I am sure things have changed a bit since then.

I have heard the key to doing this is to limit the size of each mac book’s sparse bundle and then tell time machine not to resize the sparse bundle when it backs up. I have tried a terminal command and using disk utility but neither seems to be working although I also can’t seem to figure out how to verify if my efforts have worked either. Please help!

Hmmm it doesn't always work.. but as long as you keep track of it .. I doubt you will have major issues.
A8 on setting Sparsebundle size.
Easy solution.. plug in USB drive into the TC, for one laptop.. and use internal disk for the other.. solved.

Time Capsule Wi-Fi Plus Airport Express Wi-Fi networks

My home wi-fi network is through Time capsule. I have heard that the slowest wi-fi in the system slows down the whole network. If I add an Airport express wi-fi will that slow things down?

Not necessarily. What you've heard is true, but the Express models introduced on March 17, 2008 are all capable of 802.11n or "wireless-n" protocol. That's as fast as it gets these days.
If you run your network in this mode, adding an Express won't change anything.
If you need devices on your network that aren't capable of 802.11n (edit: I believe your G5 is 802.11b/g only), the dual-band Time Capsule is capable of creating a separate network for them. That will not affect your 802.11n network.

Airport Express and Time capsule - using to stream music

I just bought Time Capsule to replace my Airport Express. The wireless connection and internet hook-up work seamlessly. I was told, and read, that I can use my Airport Express to connect to my stereo and stream music from Itunes. I have followed the directions (which say you do not need a hook-up to the modem) and I get nothing but a flashing amber light. I've opened Airport Utility and it does not see the Airport Express. I cannot figure out how to make this connection and get it to work. Has anyone done this and if so how.

PS. The stereo equipment and the Airport Express are located about 20 feet from the Time Capsule. I get reception thru the house and my IPhone picks up the network without a problem. I've moved the Airport Express adjacent to the Time Capsule and still nothing but a blinking amber light. The Apple literature says this is possible, but I'm doubting it right now.

Have you performed a Factory Default Reset so that the Express can be reconfigured?
If not, pull the Express from power
Hold in the reset button and keep holding it in as you plug the Express back in to power
Release the reset button after 8-10 seconds
If AirPort Utility is having trouble finding the Express, temporarily connect an ethernet cable from your computer to the Express. Open AirPort Utility again to see if that helps.
For AirTunes, you will configure the Express to "Join" your wireless network. The guided setup should help with this.
Please post back on your progress.
