ATV Purchased Movies Missing

Hi,
This has happened twice to me in the past week. I purchased a movie from iTunes and started the download from Apple TV. I started watching the movie on my TV, fell asleep and when I checked for the movie in the ATV menu the next day (My Movies), it was nowhere to be found.
I checked my Time Machine backups and couldn't locate it either. I contacted Apple and they provided a second download (I downloaded it from iTunes rather than ATV) and haven't had a problem with that movie.
I downloaded a second movie from ATV (iTunes) and had the same result (started watching; fell asleep with the movie running and couldn't find it the next day). Apple provided another download without explaining why the problem is occurring.
It almost seems like the purchase is being treated as a rental and deletes itself after a viewing is completed.
Anyone else experiencing this?
Thank,
kayjh

Alley,
ATV is set to sync with iTunes,
If so when you right click on AppleTV device in iTunes one of the options will be transfer purchases and another Turn off Syncing
but when I purchase something on ATV I assume it gets sync'd back to iTunes (or downloads directly to iTunes and will stream to ATV in the future when I select it.
It should theoretically reverse sync to iTunes to keep things 'synced' and also to allow you to make a backup somewhere.
This should happen automatically but is not always the case fro some people, and when it doesn't reverse sync there's often no obvious remedy other than to contact iTunes Store support.
Can you test this say with a free podcast download to AppleTV which should sync back?
If it's not transferring back then I'd recommend you stick with downloading to iTunes for now, you may need to try something radical like a factory restore of AppleTV which will wipe content/settings. Alternatively it might be an iTunes issue of some kind, but either way can be hard to nail down.

  • No ATV purchased movies show up in Itunes

I have a new ATV 3G.  Everything in itunes shows up great on the ATV, but I purchasedd 2 movies on the ATV, and they do NOT show up in itunes, and my ATV doesn't show as a device??  Why can I see Itunes in ATV, and not the reverse?

    ANyone resolve this?

  • Movie rentals that I downloaded onto iMac with Lion to do not show up on ATV 2 in menu for computers.  Purchased movies show up just fine.  What to do or look for?

I have an imac that is running lion and an Apple TV generation 2.  I have rented a movie from itunes and it shows up on my imac in Itunes under a rental icon, and will play fine on my computer.  However, it does not show up as choice to play on my apple tv.  I have homesharing enabled and everything else works fine including purchased movies that are on my imac, but no where does it show rental movies.
What do I look for?  What do I do to play the rental movie on my apple tv 2?

    Answer to my own question:
Wait until the downloaded rental has completed its download to the imac.  This took a long time for me, since it was part of several things that I was downloading at the same time.
Finally, it showed up on my apple tv.   Interestingly, I was able to watch much of the movie on my iMac before the movie finished its download and was available to the ATV 2.

  • I have rented a movie in ITunes, however it does not show up in the movies on my ATV, but purchased movies do. What's up?

I have rented a movie through ITUNES, but it does not show up on my ATV movies menu as they have in the past in a category called rentals.  In fact that category isn't shown.  My purchased movies are showing up.  What's up?

A number of people have reported similar issues recently, many appear to have found a discrepancy of some kind in their account settings and making changes to these settings or simply resetting them has resolved the matter.
Check your account details are correct, check that you are using the correct details for Location, Region and Time Zone. You may want to change these settings and then change them back to see if that helps.
You might also try logging out of and then back into your iTunes account (Settings > iTunes Store > Apple ID’s > Sign Out) and restarting your router. (Some have reported that after doing this, they need to check for rentals even though it may report that there aren’t any, after which rentals once again appear in the ‘movies’ feature)
Rentals should appear under their own heading in the ‘Movies’ feature, you might also check at Settings > iTunes Store > Check For Rentals.

  • Apple TV purchased movies tab missing

    Hi guys,
I've purchased quite a few movies on apple tv, sometime between August 1st and 2nd, all movies disappeared and the purchased movies tab is now gone from the main menu. My purchased tv shows are still showing, but movies gone!
    Anyone else have this issue???
FYI I'm in Australia if that matters.
    Thx

I have exactly the same problem. Rang apple and they didn't know what was going on.  I purchased a movie tonight but couldn't watch it as the purchased tab was gone from my atv. Sort it out Apple!!!

  • Purchase option missing on movies in apple tv.

The purchase option is gone from a lot of the movies on my apple tv (5.0.2). It's missing from at least 40 movies (I gave up checking after 40!) and that includes some previously purchased movies.
Anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?

Could be Apple updating their media servers, but equally the movie status may have changed.
Some items are rental only, some purchase only, some both - the pattern can change with time based on what the content provider allows Apple to do.

  • Purchased movies are missing and no longer on purchase list

I purchased quite a few digital movies off of iTunes and they used to show on my list of purchased movies.  Now they are gone and they aren't in my iTunes anymore.  I spent a lot of money.  Has anyone else run into this problem?

When you say "they used to show on my list of purchased movies", and that "Now they are gone", where are you looking for your "list of purchased movies" now?
I recently needed to re-download a purchased movie, because my iTunes backup failed to restore (a different issue altogether), I was having trouble seeing my purchase, and, worse, finding how to re-download without having to re-purchase.  It all turned out to be that iTunes and the iTunes Store had changed to the point that I had to look for such in very different places.  It was all there and OK, I just had to get there in a very different way than I was expecting.
First off, if you go into your account on the iTunes Store, and pull up your Purchase History (click on your Apple ID, choose Account, scroll down to Purchase History, and choose "See All >"), do you find the purchases you remember?  If so, then at least that record is OK.
Now, go to the iTunes Store Home, or almost anywhere besides your Purchase History.  Scroll to the bottom and click on "Purchased" under "Features".  You should be able to select Movies and find your purchased movies (under either the "All" tab, or the "Not in My Library" tab).
The main trouble here is that simply clicking almost anywhere on the images will do nothing!  You have to actually click on the little cloud with the downward pointing arrow in the upper right-hand corner to download the previously purchased content,
Unfortunately, if you don't find your previously purchased content here (especially if it doesn't show up in your Purchase History) then you have a problem I can't help you solve, and you should check the possible issues King_Penguin has suggested.
    Happy hunting.

  • My purchased movies are no longer available to stream on my Apple TV

I purchased Apple TV (Version 3) about 3-4 weeks ago. For the first few weeks I could access and stream all of my iTunes purchased movies through my Apple TV. This week, out of the blue, when I got to Movies > Purchased I get the message "You have not purchased any movies." I have about 25-30 movies I've purchased through iTunes (mostly by redeeming Blu-Ray digital copies) and was able to stream them without issue until approximately the beginning of this week.
    Does anyone know:
    1. Why this might have happened?
    2. How to get the movies to show up on ATV again?
My purchased television shows are there and I can use the other ATV features just fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I figured it out. Movies were hidden. Perplexed though as I know I didn't click "hide" on 38 different movies.

  • Why can't I play purchased movies on my Apple TV? And why does iTunes match not work on my Apple TV?

I have an Apple TV (early 2012) and bought some movies in the iTunes store. Now, Apple TV doesn't let me watch my purchased content. I very well can listen to music I have bought in the iTunes store and watch the purchased movies on my iphone 6 (running the latest iOS 8) and on my MacBook Air (running the latest version of Yosemite). I can also rent movies on Apple TV and watch them - no problem at all.
The other problem I have is that I activated iTunes Match on my Apple TV. But it doesn't work either. On my Mac and on my iphone - there's no problem. On Apple TV instead there is always appearing the message, that it will take a couple of minutes to setup iTunes Match  on Apple TV. Well... that is too nice to be true! It takes hours and even after that it doesn't work at all.
I checked the forums and tried different things:
    1. Updating my Apple TV's software to the latest release
    2. Restoring all settings of my Apple TV and taking it offline (meaning: logging out of iTunes on Apple TV and taking it off power)
    3. Restarting my modem and router after half a minute break and taking it off power.
    4. Setting up Apple TV again and reconnecting it with iTunes and my WLAN-router.
    5. I also wanted to Airplay the screen of my MAC or iphone to Apple TV -> doesn't work (even though I can watch the movies on this two devices without any problems). Other content can be airplayed to Apple TV without any problems as well.
    -> Nothing seems to work!
When I tried to play the moves the following to messages appear:
    1. iTunes is currently unavailable. Try again later. (But Apple TV recognizes how much of the movie has been watched already. It indicates that it is connecting and authorizing... and after that the message above appears). OR
    2. Apple TV says that the movie will be ready to be watched in two hours from now... or that you have to chose a lower resolution, if you want to watch it any sooner.
Does anyone face the same difficulties? And of course: Does anyone know any cure and salvation for my Apple TV? ;-)
Thanks so much for your assistance!

There's an issue currently that a lot of us are experiencing in that we all get the error message "iTunes is currently unavailable; please try later"
It's an issue with Apple and we're awaiting an update re this
I've posted a topic in regards to this after having a long conversation with Apple support this morning and will be receiving a call from their tech team tomorrow to run through it further
As it stands iTunes cannot be accessed via ATV's and nor can it be streamed via AirPlay from iTunes to the ATV
However I can access all films/iCloud content via my Mac Mini with no issues!

  • Can I watch iTunes-purchased movies from an Airport Extreme USB disk?

With the newest Airport firmware (7.6.1), it seems I should be able to do this.
My scenario is so basic, I can't understand why I'm having trouble achieving this.
    - I have a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.7.2 - since it's a laptop, I don't want to leave it on all the time.
    - I have an AirPort Extreme with a USB disk on it (that I use for backing up my MacBook), recently upgraded to newest firmware 7.6.1.
    - I have a recently purchased Apple TV hard-wired to the AirPort running firmware 4.4.4.
    - I have purchased movies though iTunes on the MacBook Pro.
I want to watch my iTunes-purchased movies on my Apple TV even when my MacBook Pro is sleeping. That is, I would like the movies to be accessible via iCloud, or stored on the USB disk connected to AirPort Extreme, or something/anything.
It seems obvious to me that with an all-Apple set up, and iCloud, this should be easy to achieve.
    What am I missing?
    Thanks,
    j

Really? I need to check that out!
You should certainly be able to add content by reference to itunes from such a disk (even before the update) - so long as itunes knows the location of the file (set Preferences not to copy to local library when adding the media) it will stream it to AppleTV if the disk is available.
I hope you're right, but I'd be surprised if current Extremes can be upgarded to provide a full Home Sharing service - marvellous if they can but I'd be surprised as i've long said we need an Apple media server either based on TC or AE to do this kind of thing.

  • My purchased movies are taking over an hour to load.  Why?

Apple TV is telling me (suddenly) that my purchased movies will take over an hour to load and play.  This literally started happening 10 minutes into a movie.  It's never taken more than 10 seconds to load in the past.  My internet connection is up and working normally.  Why would this start happening so suddenly?

Power cycle the ATV and router then try again.

  • ITunes 10.5.1 no longer plays purchased movies

    Hello guys/gals,
So this is a problem I've been struggling to find an answer for and I've not gotten desperate enough to pay $30 for the one-time incident fee, YET. Currently own a Macbook Pro w/ i7 core. Running 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) and iTunes 10.5.1. I've noticed recently that my purchased Movies no longer work. I purchased Hurt locker and Truth in 24 some months ago (honestly probably about a year ago) and I am no longer able to play these movies. I read elsewhere that our WIndows counterparts were struggling with Quicktime and that is why iTunes would fail to play videos. This confuses me because allegedly 10.5.1 now comes with Quicktime X with it. So I removed my old Quicktime 7.7 from my computer thinking perhaps it is a failure in the dependancy. Alas, to no avail. So I have come to ask for your infinite wisdom and perhaps shed some light on what may be the problem, if others have the same problem, and whether there has been a solution identified?

They did try to help but nothing worked. Tried deleting the movies from iTunes and then reinstalling them from my "purchased list" but some of the files were missing.  They have no idea how that could have happened. Ironically all of the movies still work on a previous veraion of iTunes on my older mac. Go figure !!

  • Purchased Movies on Apple TV 2

I purchased a movie via Apple TV. My understanding is I can watch the movie on other IOS devices as well as in iTunes.  The purchased movie shows up on Apple TV, but I can't find it available on my iPad or in iTunes. Am I missing something obvious here on how to play the movie on the other devices. I have Home Sharing set up. Streaming any content, purchased or otherwise from OS X iTunes to Apple TV works fine.

I did a quick search to, just to check my assumption that they should show up in the iTunes Store on the mobile device, and they should.
Another thought I had is that not all movie studios have signed up for the re-download deal, although I would have thought that any movies that were not re-downloadable would not be offered for sale on the Apple TV. I do think however that since it is under the purchased section on the Apple TV that this is probably not the case here.
One final thought on the matter is that iTunes may currently be having a few problems. I clicked on a movie to purchase this morning, in order to test out an answer I was giving to another user, thinking that I could cancel it. I got a dialogue box about three security questions, clicked not now and the movie started downloading, never even asked for my password. I repeated this with another movie, I got the box asking for my password, clicked cancel and the movie still downloaded. Not good, but it may indicate that something is amiss at this moment in time.

  • Should purchased movies be on my iMac?

I purchased a movie on Apple TV in 1080p HD. I know I can download it to iOS devices but should it also appear in my iTunes library on my iMac?
I have lots of movies on my iMac which I can view thru Apple TV by going to COMPUTERS on ATV main menu. But purchased movies appear under MOVIES in the main menu.
Is there a way I can get one combined list of movies that includes purchased and those on my Mac?
    Thx.

AppleTv 2 and 3 only stream movies/tv shows from the internet or a local iTunes library (Computers icon).
As they have no storage, any movie you buy and watch does not sync back to iTunes.
If you go to the main itunes store page (the house icon) or the Movies section of teh store, then on the right you should see a Purchased link under Quicklinks.  You can download from there.  Make sure your iTunes Preferences are set for 1080p not 720p (if you want the other copies you can get them incuding SD using a combination of Purchased Quicklinks and Preferences (there's a checkbox for SD from memory)).
