ATV Remote controls iTunes on MacBook as well......

Hi all,
We just got ATV and when we are using the remote to navigate ATV stuff happens in iTunes as well - such as music starting and stopping, volume increasing/decreasing. How do I stop the ATV remote controlling iTunes on the macbook?
Thanks

On your Mac go to System Preferences, Security & Privacy, choose Disable Remote Control Infrared Reciever, at the bottom of the window.

As this is the forum for PPC (pre-2006, non Intel) iMacs I assume that is what you have.
    Try pairing the remote again:

    Thanks!

It should. First, turn on BlueTooth on the computer. In BT preferences be sure to check the option to look for all devices. Your remote should be picked up and a notice asking if you want to Pair it with the computer. Select Yes. Once it is paired it can be used to control your computer.

  • Use e71 to remote control itunes

    Hi,
I have a mac mini (snow leopard) with itunes. I would like to remote control the itunes running on my mac mini using my e71, like the iRemote for the iphone.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance,

I have used Salling Clicker for years (on PC first and now on MAC), primarily to rate songs remotely from the phone and secondarily to add songs to playlists. It does much more and works both over Bluetooth and WIFI and is ideal to discretely and efficiently DJ your event.
Symbian version is well integrated (you have cover art and also can use the phones' volume keys to increase/decrease your computer's volume) and I highly recommend it (my first pay application... although the free version might be enough for some people).

  • Apple Remote controls iTunes, not Front Row

I've searched around for an answer to this and have had no luck. My Apple Remote is controlling iTunes - the play/pause button is playing and pausing, the up and down buttons are controlling iTunes volume, the left and right buttons are skipping tracks as expected, and the Menu button is pulling up the iTunes window. But I want the remote to open and control Front Row. Holding down the Menu button won't open Front Row, no matter how long I hold it. I can open Front Row normally through the Applications folder, but even when it's open, the Apple Remote doesn't control it - it still controls iTunes! Pressing play won't do anything in Front Row, but it will start a song playing in iTunes. The remote and my IR receiver are obviously working. How can I fix this?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If you use the Accounts System Preferences to make a brand new user, log out and log in as the new user, does the Apple remote work as expected with Front Row? If so, then you have some kind of preference or setting that's blocking the remote in Front Row. If it doesn't work for the new user, then you have a system-wide or hardware problem.

  • Turn off apple remote control from my macbook pro

How can I turn off my remote control from remoting both apple tv and myc macbook pro at same time. I just want to remote my apple tv.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
If you want, you can disable the IR port in order to be able to stop control your computer with the Apple Remote. To do it, open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General > Advanced, and mark "Disable remote control infrared receiver"

  • Way to remote control iTunes on my iPT ?

  • Is there a way to disable the AppleTV remote control on a MacBook?

I often work on my MacBook Pro while watching shows using Apple TV, but every time I pause or play something on the AppleTV, the remote signal also activates iTunes on my MacBook Pro.  I pretty much never use the remote to control my MacBook Pro.  Is there a setting for disabling the IR receiver or for just telling the MacBook to ignore requests from a remote?

You can disable the IR receiver of the MacBook. To do it, open System Preferences > Security & Privacy, and press the padlock to sign in as an administrator. Then, press "Advanced" and tick the option to disable the IR receiver.

  • Can my Windows MCE Remote control iTunes?

I have an iPhone so I want to use iTunes as much as possible to make myself as familar witht he program that I can.
I would really love if my Windows MCE Remote can control it.
I used the up and down arrows and it seemed to scroll through the song list, but I couldnt pause the song from the remote.
So can I get it to fully work with iTunes?
Can I even use the MCE on the desktop like a mouse?

No idea, since I don't have Windows MCE Remote. Have you tried over in their forums?

  • Apple TV remote controls iTunes

Using the Apple TV remote to select something.  When I hit play it not only plays the movie on Apple TV it also plays a random song in iTunes on my computer.  This is also happening at a friends house.  Any setting changes that can be done?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
If you don't want to use a remote with your computer the easiest thing to do is just to turn the IR off. (System Preferences > Security > General, click on the Advanced button in the bottom right corner - If the button is greyed out, click on the lock icon and enter your administrators password))
If you still want to use your computer remote then you must pair your computers remote with the computer AND the Apple TV remote with the Apple TV.
To pair a remote with a device hold down the menu and FF buttons together for six seconds or until you see a chain icon on screen (best take the computer into another room, or turn it off, when you do this)

Need to install software on my parents macbook, what is the best way?  Can it be done?

That depends on your skill level. Easiest way is Screen Sharing in iChat. Most efficient is SSH.

  • Hacker achieved remote control using Trojan

A few days ago a hacker took remote control of my MacBook Pro. The person was closing windows and trying to navigate to other areas. Fortunately I caught it, disabled my network connection. I'm running OS X 10.5.6. I read about this as a known vulnerability, where the Trojan is included in a download file, and a hole in AppleScript security allows them to take control as root. I did the recommended work around, which is:
    Go to System Preferences
    Enable Remote Management
Go to Options and disable all items
I also changed my root password, just in case they already had this.
I wanted to let others know about this, as it was very real and could affect others.

The explanation may be more banal than it appears. You were on a network and somebody else was accessing your computer. You probably had "Sharing" turned on, or some of things you can set in "Sharing" (System Preferences). The other person was probably on the same network as you, and was playing around to see who else's computer he could see, and then trying out a few things.
I would discount the idea that this was a remote hacker or a Trojan, more like a neighbour, a kid, or a co-worker.
I play around myself sometimes to see who else's computer is visible on a network, and what I can do. You'd be surprised how careless some people are.
The thing that puzzles me is why Apple seems to leave "sharing" on by default. This is surely a dangerous thing to do?
