ATV to Onkyo SR-607 No signal

I just bought an ATV second generation and used the HDMI to the onkyo receiver. The receiver is connected to the Samsung HDTV with component cables. On the receiver, I used the INPUT ASSIGN, GAME, HDMI menu to select the slot for the ATV. I could hear sound only. I am still receiving the the "NO SIGNAL" on my tv. I connected ATV directly to the tv and it works fine, but I would like to have theater sound with the ATV, therefore I prefer HDMI to the Onkyo.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you.

atv's are very picky when it comes to hdmi switches
and hdcp material like stuff you rent or buy in itunes may not work over component at all
I would connect the atv with the reciever using optical and hdmi connected to the tv

  • Remote Code for Onkyo TX-607

I have a Onkyo TX-607 A/V receiver.  I have tried all the codes listed and none of them funcion fully.  Several of the codes will allow the remote to turn the receiver off and adjust the volume, but none of them will allow me to turn the receiver ON.  Anyone have a code that works with this receiver?

Hey here are the codes we have for the Onkyo receiver: 0162, 0869, 1325, 1347, 1558, 3628, 3650, 3653, 3660, 3666, 3669, 3687, 3693, 3697, 3705, 3707, 3710, 3711, 3719, 3753 so if none of these codes does not work your best bet would be to contact the Onkyo manufacturer for code operate the model that you have.

  • Frustrating HDMI/HDCP issues with ATV and Onkyo receiver

After two frustrating weeks of trouble shooting, I would like to share with you my situation.
Two weeks ago I upgraded our living room HT to a new Onkyo TX-SR707 receiver and a new ATV (connected by HDI). The system includes a ComcastHD DVR (connected by HDMI) and an older DVD player (connected by component). The TV is a five year old Samsung RP DLP 1080i (also connected by HDMI to the new receiver).
The connections to the DVD player and the ComcastHD DVR have been flawless. When I first connected the ATV I went to the set up menu, connected to an AE base station (g) and uploaded a few hundred pics and homemade videos, no movies or music from iTunes. Since then, the receiver seems to have a great deal of trouble switching on to the ATV. I have made the following corrections:
All HDMI cables were unplugged and re-plugged.
All HDMi cables were upgraded to the Munster Cable "top of the line"
Switched the ComcastHD DVR and the ATV to other HDMI in connections in the back of the receiver
Re-setted the ATV to factory and uploaded only pics.
Made sure that the receiver was set to "Through" on the Monitor Out connection so that it would not do any upscaling.
Made sure that the HDMI option in the ATV was at AUTO. I also tried ALL the other options under HDMI
Changed the resolution on the ATV to all of the others, with the exception of 480P, no improvement.
None of the above worked. I then took the ATV to my main home theater in the basement. It has an older Onkyo TX-SR875 with an overhead JVC RS1 projector, Oppo Blu-Ray and a ComcastHD DVR. All the components were connected with HDMI, including the ATV. Guess what happen? The ATV worked in my basement like a charm!!
The problem is that I don't want the ATV in the basement HT, but upstairs so that the family can enjoy the pics and home made movies. After the ATV test in the basement, I took it back upstairs to the Onkyo 707 receiver. Guess what? Once again it could not switch from any components to the ATV except under these two circumstances:
    1. If I selected ATV on the receiver and it did not connect, after turning the receiver off for 10 seconds it connected perfectly well. If I then switched to any other compoment, I could not switch back to the ATV unless I turned the receiver off again for ten seconds.
    2. I turned the resolution of the ATV to 480P and guess what? The problem is gone!
It seems that there is an HDMI handshake or HDCP problem between the Onkyo 707 and the ATV. Given that the lower resolution doesn't uses HDCP that could be the issue, but this was not a problem at all in the basement HT with the Onkyo 875 receiver.
The one big difference between these two receivers is that the video processing CPU is a Faroudja for the 707 (where I can't get the ATV to work properly) and the 875 uses the Reon-HQV.
I would greatly appreciate any comments.
    Regards and TIA,
    José

I think there's a general misconception about HDMI cables, I'm not convinced it's a case that there is no difference. Quality is usually determined by the diameter or more importantly the uniformity of the diameter of the individual strands of the cable, it is also affected by the precision of the length of each strand and the purity thereof.
More expensive cables tend to be of higher quality by virtue of better quality control, needless to say there are minimum standards for such cables and in this sense, cheap or expensive, all types of cable will meet this standard.
Personally I avoid cheap cables, but I'm not convinced there's a need to spend the sort of money some cables are priced at, nor am I convinced they are proportionally higher in quality.

  • ATV doesn't actually power off? In standby mode HDMI and Toslink active?

I've setup my ATV to live on an active signal sensing HDMI and Optical audio router. I'm amazed to now find that the only way of killing the HDMI and optical outputs are to power the ATV off? Putting the unit into standby keeps those output ports active. Anyone find a way around this?

    It's a 'feature' !
Standby just outputs black video, and device remains awake monitoring for communications from iTunes to allow syncing when it's in 'standby'.

  • A reliable setup for streaming to Apple TV

I'm actually looking for suggestions. At the time I got the ATV2 I had a Linksys wireless cable gateway 200 with the economy internet plan from comcast (1 mbps). That was obviously way too slow so I upgraded to the 6 mbps and now thats much better. But I'm running into problems with my connection. I would stream a TV show and every 5-10 minutes the connection gets hung up. The way I fix it is to keep restarting my linksys - then its fine again for another 10 minutes. I'm thinking my problem is the linksys since ATV shows a strong signal and my wired connection runs great. So I'd like to replace my linksys for another wireless cable modem (i'd really rather not have extra boxes/routers and stuff) so I'd like suggestions I was thinking the motorola surfboard SBG6580 but am really just interested in getting what would help me get the most of my internet connection that won't break the bank. If that necessitates a separate router let me know.

It is G, I've tried positioning the ATV in a couple different places one of which it was out in the open and could not have been obstructed by anything (visible at least). Any place I put it though the ATV does show that very strong signal in the ATV networks setting. The connection gets hung up on my iphone as well but doesn't feel as frequent and again I only notice when I'm streaming something like a video (i.e. youtube or vevo).

  • TOSLink output to Analog Issue

    Hi All,
My ATV hooks up fine to my projector for video, (ATV GaffTaped to Projector, HDMI jumper, Point at BigAss Screen, Apply Power, Done).
The Audio is becoming a challenge.
I'd like, ideally, to take the Optical Output from the ATV via a TOSlink Cable to a "stripper/converter black box" & send Analog (L,R,Lr,Rr & Sub) outputs to my amp rack & out to speakers.
TOSLink in, 5 (or 7) Channel Analog Out.
This seems like a no-brainer solution, but I can't find that 'black box'.
Any Ideas for less than $500 ?
    Thanks....

    Thanks capaho,
I currently have that solution for the living room.
The ATV/Projector System is to be portable. I work with Standard PA gear in theater & music production. I guess I can try & come up with a Consumer AV Receiver that will split out the signals. I was looking for something simpler & more elegant to install in the rack, haul out to the Back Deck or tote around.
    Hi, Alley_Cat,
Right now I have my old monitor rack w/4 Stereo 500w QSC Amps, (Line Level 1/4" & Balanced XLR Inputs, Banana Post Outs) & some assorted Monitor Wedges & Side Fill Cabinets, (JBL, EV, etc..). I may Cross Over & Bi-Amp them, maybe not.
@ the moment I only have the option, w/the ATV, to feed them a stereo signal.
It looks as if a new receiver is the answer, my surviving pair of RCA RC2250's only have Coax, TOSLink & 6 Channels of Line Level Surround Input. Six Channels of output would be nice.
I guess RCA thought someone had a way to get six discreet line level outputs out of of something and into their Receiver...
    Hi tmartine ,
$500 was a high ballpark, $200 may be doable, 7.1 would be sweet in a big outdoor situation.
We have Gasparilla here in Tampa the week after the Superbowl & Pirate Movies the night before the Parade has become a household tradition. This year I'm going for a friend's used Spinnaker Sail in the Side Yard for a 15' x 20' Projection Surface, Big Image demands some big robust Rock & Roll sound gear. We burned up an RCA 2250 Surround Receiver last year.
    Thanks again folks.

  • Getting fed up with Apple TV

Let me just say, I love the concept of Apple TV.  When it works, it's great.
I've got two Apple TVs (2nd gen), both connected wirelessly (not by choice...at the moment, that's all I can do).  They're connecting to my Airport Extreme (802.11n) to get on the network.  I live in a small-ish 1000 sq. ft condo, and the Airport Extreme is located right in the middle.  I have good wireless coverage from end to end, and even when I pull up the network settings on ATV, they both show a full signal.  There really isn't any other traffic on my network.  It's my girlfriend and I living there, and besides for casual internet use, all the network really gets used for is media streaming to Apple TV.
My media-center is a 2010 Mac Mini, which is on all the time, connected to the same Airport Extreme via gigabit ethernet.
    Here are my issues:
It loses connection to the library on my Mac Mini *constantly*.  Meaning, I turn the TV on, go to look for a show, movie, whatever, and it says it can't connect.  The only way to resolve it is to disable Home Sharing, re-enable it, and ta-da...works again.  (There's been a lot of discussion on these forums about this).
In the middle of a show, it'll just pause.  I have to exit out of the show, and go back in.
Sometime after watching one episode, I go back to the table of contents to pull up another one, and it just freezes there "loading."  Again...exit out, go back in, sometimes more than once to get it to cooperate.
Is anyone else here having these issues, and what have you done to resolve them?  I spend more time troubleshooting these damned things than I actually do using them, and I'm at the point where I'm considering looking at another solution.  I just don't get it...I don't see how it could be hardware incompatibilities; all of the hardware is made by Apple!!!  And yes, it's wireless, but like I said...it's pretty much a dedicated network for this, and there isn't a lot of traffic otherwise.  When is Apple going to fix some of this stuff?  The "it just works" mentality that I tend to apply to a lot of things Apple certainly does NOT apply to Apple TV.

Intermittent problems are often a result of interference. Interference can be caused by other networks in the neighbourhood or from household electrical items.
You can download and install iStumbler (NetStumbler for windows users) to help you see which channels are used by neighbouring networks so that you can avoid them, but iStumbler will not see household items.
Refer to your router manual for instructions on changing your wifi channel.
There are other types of problems that can affect networks, but this is by far the most common, hence worth mentioning first.

  • DVI Port Feels Loose

Has anyone noticed that when they connect the HDMI cable to the ATV that the connector feels loose and has a bit of play. I think this was my problem yesterday when I connected the ATV and couldn't get a signal. Work today but I'm afraid that the DVI cable doesn't feel firmly seated. Hoping someone else can check their connection and get back to me.

I don't have the new one yet, but HDMI on my older AppleTVs and Mac Mini are quite robust - while it could be the build quality of the new one if it's very loose I'd be tempted to talk to the Apple store before buying a new cable.

  • Airplay vs. Home Sharing, is there a technical difference???

I'm attempting to become an audiophile, or at least I can say I really enjoy listening to music. As such, all of my CD's are ripped via Apple lossless into iTunes, and then streamed to my ATV2 before the optical out sends the digital signal to my stereo.
The ATV2 offers me (at least) two methods of listening to my music:
    1) Using homesharing - my ATV2 picks up the music when I select "Computers" and choose my homeshared iTunes library, or
    2) Using Airtunes - directly from my iMac and select my ATV2 as the destination source.
Interestingly enough, I hear a real difference between the two methods, as method #2 will create a significant distortion in many songs, but method #1 will not, regardless the music format (lossless, 128kbps, 256kbps, etc).
Why would this be? Is there a technical difference between method #1 and #2 above between what iTunes sends and ATV2 receives/decodes?
Help, inquiring minds want to know!
    Thanks.

If you lower the playback volume control in iTunes on your iMac when it is sending music via AirTunes to your ATV, can you eliminate the distortion?
It may be that the too-high output volume from the iMac is causing "clipping" somewhere in the signal delivery chain because there is too little "headroom" for the digital audio's loudest passages to be rendered properly.
If so, turning down the volume control in iTunes might fix it.
Technically, if you stream the music using Home Sharing, the ATV is receiving and internally decoding the original audio file. Using AirPlay, the file is decoded by iTunes on your iMac, not on the ATV, and a digital audio output signal is generated in iTunes and sent to the ATV. If not enough headroom is present when that happens, the output signal may be clipped in loud passages. This may happen either at the point of being generated by iTunes or at some later point in the signal path.
You may want to try using iVolume
    http://www.mani.de/ivolume/
to make sure all your music files play at the same desirable level. This is achieved in part by turning on Sound Check in iTunes (and also on the ATV) after using iVolume on all your music tracks. Before you use iVolume to adjust the volume of your music tracks, you might want to set iVolume's Master Volume level fairly low, so as to give you undistorted AirTunes play even with the iTunes volume slider set to its maximum position.

  • Any PC streamers here?

Gotta say, I love the concept of apple tv and got the 40gb model recently but have had nothing but headaches getting it to work properly on my network for streaming. I've read countless threads with other folks having similar issues and resolving them (at least most of the time), but the problem is that they all seem to use macs and the tweaks I've found have little benefit for me as a PC owner.
I have the small 40gb ATV and it shows up just fine under iTunes/devices, etc. but whenever it "loads library" it will either disconnect or will load the library then promptly disconnect in the middle of a stream shortly thereafter, but the odd thing is, it only shows a disconnect on the ATV itself, and on the PC iTunes shows that it's still there. I'm running a new dell desktop with Vista (ugh) and I have a linksys-N wireless network. Firewalls have been tweaked 100 different ways and even turned off completely. The ATV itself can go online and do youtube, radio, trailers, etc. without issue. Network signal strength is full and I can't see anything around the ATV that would interfere with the signal.
I've tried linking with my laptop (also PC/Vista) and for both streaming and syncing it works better, but by no means not flawless and will still disconnect on occassion in the same way as the desktop.
Of note, I'm running the 64-bit version of vista on the desktop and the 32-bit on the laptop... not sure if that makes any difference, but I recall reading somewhere for compatibility that ATV supports "Vista 32-bit" but doesn't mention the 64-bit version. :-/
Can anyone give ideas on how to fix this, and/or share your PC network settings on the off chance I have something screwy with mine going on?
    Many thanks in advance...
    -Rob

Totally agree, it should be. But there must be some initial setting we've overlooked because by simply capturing using DV/DVCPro NTSC preset, the end product of SD DVD comes out choppy/interlace especially in motion scenes. And I've tried all versions of field dominance and compressor methods.
Without changing anything in the workflow except capturing in uncompressed mode, the interlace issue vanished completely (for me).
Snow, can you suggest the workflow you would use for capturing SD DV? I'd love to try it and see (as I'm sure A1lens would too).

  • Apple TV seems to do things all on its own, Solved.

Spent more than two weeks trying to find out why my Apple TV (3rd generation) would turn on by itself, move the selection around and cause the video/music to stop, skip and do other weird things. Searched to see if others had similar problems with there ATVs, found lots of probable fixes but no real solution to my problems.
Having the ATV constantly turning itself on was an inconvenience,  but the skipping and stopping during video/music playback was painful. Followed all on the general guidlines for ATV problems, Reset the ATV, local switch, local router, DSL, check ATV iOS version, assigned local reserved addresses, checked router firmware versions, this did not solve the problem. Checked remote, changed battery,  un-paired and paired the remote, the remote worked correctly but ATV would still do things like someone else was linked to the ATV. Shut off and disconnected all computers, iPads, iPods and ethernet connected devices, leaving only the ATV hooked up via ethernet to the DSL, ATV worked well but still had spurious actions. Watched the local net traffic, there was no packet traffic at the time of the problems.  Had this paranoid thought that my ATV was picking up IR remote signals via my large front window, so the IR front sensor on the ATV was covered, still had my ATV doing weird things all on its own. Though that I might have to bring my ATV into the Apple store for repair/replacement.
About a week later, after suffering quietly through movies and music that would skip forward, stop and pause, I was trying to pair my Apple bluetooth keyboard to my iPad(4) for an evening's presentations. The keyboard would not pair to the iPad even though it had been paired in the past. The keyboard battery was low so it was replaced, still would not pair with the iPad.  Why? Now I have two devices to bring to the Apple store.
Then the realization, that sometime ago, I had paired the bluetooth keyboard to the ATV!  And the keyboard had been in a tote bag with a few hefty things on it. Was the keyboard sending commands to the ATV because some of the keys were being pressed in the bag? (Pocket dialing?)  Checked the Bluetooth settings on the ATV, BT seems to be always on and it was paired to a keyboard, of course it was the keyboard from the bag! Pressed the arrow keys on the keyboard, low and behold the keyboard was controlling the ATV ( as do other playback control buttons on the keyboard). Unpaired the keyboard from the ATV, then checked to see if the ATV would behave, sure enough everything was now OK. So problem solved, my bad, lesson learned: don't pair keyboard to multiple devices, un-pair them when you are done.
It's been a week since the "fix" and everything is fine.

Thanks for your reply Alley Cat.
Well at least I'm not alone, this problem with pairing keyboards and other Bluetooth devices with multiple iMac, MacBooks, Mac Pros, iPhones, iPads and Apple TVs can be very frustrating. Only a few days ago I realized that another problem, with my iPad suddenly playing songs with the cover closed, was related to the "bag keying, bagging" problem that made my ATV look possessed. Ha, ha, seems the wireless keyboard would lacth on to the nearest paired device (as I moved the tote bag arround) and cause intermittent activations. Spooky!
I see this as both a user and an Apple design problem. Wireless input devices users should not pair a device to multiple computer/phone/pad/pod/atvs at the same time. Apple (software, firmware) designers should change the pairing Bluetooth proceedure to warn users that the device has already been paired with another computer/phone/pad/pod/atvs.
    example:
      Warning:  Bluetooth Pairing Fail
An attempt to pair (Input device) xxxxx has failed
because it is already pair with (DEVICE) XXXXX
You must unpair this (Input device) before proceeding
Force an unpairing with (DEVICE) XXXXX?
    [  ] Yes, unpair      [  ] No, don't unpair
This would only work with devices on the same local network and will not solve all of the problems, but it would certainly help.

  • Macintosh Compatibility with Networkable A/V Receivers (Yamaha, Sony, Denon

My trusty HK 8000 died and I researched high end receivers such as the Sony 6400Es. In every instance, they all said their receivers are not Macintosh compatible and I could not stream audio or video thru the receiver via the network but it would work on PC based computers. The manuals all said the same thing. At least they never mentioned the MAC. Am I missing something? Anyone trying to stream form thier mac to a receiver? What brand/model?????

    Hello,
Have you tried the Onkyo SR-607, its 7.2 channels and supports DTS HD and Dolby Digital HD.  Otherwise if you want  you can look at Anthem:

Outlaw Audio also makes a reciever, its discounted but you may still be able to find it:

  • Audigy 2 ZS - Headphones work, Digital Out does not

Just install an Audigy 2 ZS. Bought a miniplug-RCA plug adaptor to connect it to my digital coax cable into my Onkyo receiver. Headphones show that sound it working. Onkyo shows no PCM signal received. I know it works because my last computer used the same amp and same cable. Is there something in the software I'm doing wrong? I'm tried switching the frequency rate, the digital out only, 2 speaker and 4 speaker settings. What am I doing wrong?
    John

    SoonerFann,
One thing to consider is that the digital out on the back of the Audigy 2 ZS is not an actual SPDIF out. It uses the DIN interface which is similar in form, but has a different rating on the voltage of the connection. Most receivers will still work with it, but some will not. This is most likely why it is not showing PCM on the receiver. If you have the platinum dri've, there is a true SPDIF on it but we cannot guarantee that it will work with a receiver using the DIN on the Audigy 2 ZS.

  • ATV2 wifi invalid password message

Hi I have an ATV 2 that I bought a couple months ago.  At the time I was using Qwest DSL with a Linksys wrt400 dual band wireless router and the ATV worked fine despite the poor signal from Qwest.  Recently I switched to comcast and now when I attempt to connect the ATV to the same Linksys router I receive a message saying invalid password.  I've tried connecting after disabling the router security, changing the passwords, changing the router channels, and did a reset as well.  We have an imac, several pc's, an ipad, itouches, iphones, and a blackberry that all connect with no problem but no success with the ATV.  What am I missing?

    Invalid password for what?

should I just copy movies from itunes to an iPad and stream from the iPad in the same room?

Try rebooting the device involved, starting with the router.  Sometimes that is all that is needed to clear up streaming issues.
If the ATV is not getting sufficient wireless signal from the router, that will also cause streaming issues.  Of course, this would not be limited to streaming from iTunes.
