ATV2 (720P) Fatal Brick After Update

I attempted to install the ATV 6.0 update yesterday, and encountered the same "brick" issues others here have reported. After the update, the only thing that worked on my ATV was the front panel LED light, as it blinked constantly.
Since I didn't have a micro USB cable handy to connect my device to my Mac, and since I really didn't look forward to fishing behind my A/V cabinet for the power cord, I made an appointment at the Apple Store Genius Bar, figuring they could fix things quickly and easily......if only this had happened!
My Apple Store tech connected my ATV to his MacBook Air and, after some fiddling, finally got the device to appear in iTunes. He then ran the Restore process, which seemed to go fine until the very end, when it threw an error code on his MacBook. He tried to run the Restore process again, but wasn't able to get my ATV to appear in iTunes. He'd mentioned earlier that if an ATV breaks after the warranty's up, there's a $59 charge to fix it.
Well, after trying everything he could think of, he was never able to get the device to appear in iTunes. So...he excused himself to consult with his manager, and offered to replace my ATV with a new one for $59. I accepted this offer, because I WAS getting an upgrade from 720P to 1080P....but left the store thinking I got "half-screwed" by Apple. I mean, my device was working fine prior to this update, and it was Apple's update that bricked it.
While I was allowed to keep my bricked device, I doubt seriously I'll be able to do anything with it if iTunes can't see it.

I have encounter the same issue with my ATV.  I was hoping to find that Apple was offering FREE replacements since these units were obviously working units to have downloaded their 6.0 software update messed them up. Working ATV 2nd gen are going for $150-200 on ebay because they can be jail broken.  I should have sold it while it was working.

  • Is my Iphone 4 bricked after updating to IOS 5

Well ive updated my iphone 4 to ios 5 and everything was ok untill a couple of days later. I restarted my phone and was getting the solid apple logo and that was it. After pressing home and on/off buttons it went off.
Now i dont get nothing at all, Not a thing. Ive tried getting it in DFU mode for restore and not getting no signs of life at all. Ive literally been trying to do this all day and hopefully someone can help me here. I cant see how a phone just goes off and shows no sign of life just like that, No water damage or anything else like that has happened.
Ive also left it on charge for a couple of hours even thou the battery was at least 50% charged.
Any help will be great, Thanks

Connect your iPhone to iTunes. If it doesn't come up in the sidebar for a good amount of time, start holding the power and home buttons. Count down from 10. Then, release the power button and coninue holding the home button for up to 30 seconds. If it doesn't come out of recovery or DFU (which can sometimes make it appear bricked), continue this process. KiltedTim's answer is also helpful and can sometimes take care of this problem.

  • IPhone 4 Bricked after updating to iOS5

So, the day iOS5 update came out for the iPhones/iPods/iPads I was egar to get it downloaded to update my software on my iPhone 4. I noticed they had an update for iTunes so I went ahead and updated my iTunes before I started updating my iPhone 4.  After waiting for my iTunes to update, I then downloaded the new iOS5 update...ran a backup on my iPhone 4. After I updated iTunes, downloaded the new iOS5 and backed my phone up, I then plugged my iPhone 4 to my computer to run the iOS5 update...the update successfully updated. I used it for 2 days working perfectly. When I was traveling last Saturday, I pulled the notification center down to check all my notifications and my screen turned off.  I've tried to hard-reboot it...everthing, it had completely bricked on me! I noticed that my screen was still on, but it was black. I then plugged my iPhone 4 in to iTunes and iTunes recognized my phone for about seconds then an error message popped up saying that iTunes can't recieve any data on my iphone becasue there is an error. I called apple and they said bring it in...I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem? Or does anyone know a solution besided taking it to apple? Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you, Justin!

  • My iPhone is half bricked after update to 6.1.3

So, this is how it happened... I use this phone for quite a while now, and I noticed that after I updated my iphone 4, it is annoying that it reboots then freeze on the apple logo even after I hard reset it, sometimes it takes a whole 15 minutes just to get it right, and I restored it like 5 times now in recovery mode, since this is happening at the most crutial times of my day, either I sell it to someone with a very low price, or can I repair it somehow??? the battery already replaced....I dont know what to do, can anyone help???

How was the battery replaced, maybe that's what caused the problem?
Try is restoring the iPhone and setting it up as a new device, to make sure you aren't carrying over any data that could be causing the problem to happen again.

  • HP Mini 210-2090NR malware and fatal error after update

    Hi,
I have an HP Mini 210-2090NR with Win 7 starter. I had malware that kept trying to contact websites like adclick, etc. It tried an auto update and then got a one line "fatal error". Now it will boot to the quickweb but not the OS. I tapped ESC until I got a menu and tried F11 but the screen just goes completely blank. Is the recovery partition toast or is there another way to access it?
    Thanks,
    Matt

The error message- Replace hard Disk 1 is a clear indication that your hard drive has gone faulty on the Notebook and needs to be replaced.
I would strongly recommend you to back up your files if its possible and apart from replacing the hard drive with a new one, there is no other option to fix this issue on the Notebook

  • HT3406 4s bought new from Verizon now bricked after update

I have been using this 4s as a media player (no phone) since I upgraded to a 5s about 18 months ago. A couple days ago I updated the 4s and now iTunes states "there is no sim card in the phone you are trying to activate. Please disconnect and insert a sim card in the phone". I have been to Verizon and to the Apple store. Neither has been able to help. At the Apple store, the employee stated that the phone had been updated to an ios that requires a sim card. For some reason, iTunes thought this 4s was a different phone and installed software that is only compatible with a sim card. I just want to get back this "phone" that I'm really just using as an ipod!

See this discussion to see if it helps. iPhone 4 Message:SIM Required (in phone that has no SIM card slot)  While it was originally for the iPhone 4, I have seen a couple of Verizon 4s customers also post. You will need to contact Apple back, however their support line, and escalate the call to a Senior Engineer to get assistance.

  • Apple TV just bricked after update

My Apple TV is bricked and needs to connect to itunes... I don't own a Mac or PC. I do have an iphone 5s and an ipad 2. Can I piggyback my Apple TV onto these devices do I need to go to an apple store?

Here are some steps and notes to try:
MANY people are reporting they've had to try multiple micro USB cables to find one that works. I got one that worked from a neighbor.
For clarification, this needs to be a "micro" USB, not a "mini" USB
Some people have also reported they've had to try the Restore process more than once.
    1. Unplug Apple TV and move it to your computer running latest version of iTunes.
    2. Quit iTunes if running.
    3. Plug micro USB cable to the back of the Apple TV.
    4. Power the Apple TV using  the AC cable.
    5. iTunes shoud either launch itself (a good indication that the micro USB cable you're using is compatible), or launch iTunes.
    6. Click Restore. Software will download and install (big file).

  • Apple TV Bricked after update?

Installed an update this morning (prompted by Apple TV). Finished downloaded and rebooted. Never came back. Console light keeps blinking. I've tried a reset using the remote (MENU + DOWN), it blinks quickly indicating reset was accepted, but goes back to the same state.
Anyone else? Any way to fix it?

The USB connector is not standard, and I don't remember one shipping with the device? I may be wrong..

  • 6720 Christmas Brick after update

    Hello All
I bought me Ma a 6720 for Christmas.  It came brand new, direct from the factory with firmware 12.008.  I only found one obvious bug, you couldn't access bluetooth devices without going through the help page.
At 7 days old I figured it had to be bang up to date but I checked anyway and found the firmware was now up to 13.009 so I did the update in the hope of a bug fix.
Well the bluetooth ain't a problem anymore.  The phone doesn't work!
I know familiarity can breed contempt but I've done a few updates before so I at least sort of know the ropes.  The battery was fully charged and the power was connected.  I didn't remove the USB cable during the process.  In fact everything was correct including the "Update Successfull, firmware version now 13.009" message.
So why does the phone not work?
It's not completely cabbaged.  You still get a buz at switch on but thats about it.  The odd feint line on an unlit screen but no functionality and the PC can't find it to try anf fix the FUBAR.
I've tried the battery/PSU/USB/SIM in/out in various combinations as per posts for other models but nothings worked.
Anyone got any better sugestions or do I just gotta wait till the Techs come back to work?
    Regards All
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Might not be as bad as you think if you got a Update succesful message.
Firstly remove the battery for at least 5 minutes and then replace and see if that makes any difference.
If the aove doesn't work then try the "3 finger deep reset". With the phone powered off, depress and hold these three keys simultaneously "*" "3" "green phone" and then power on phone using the on/off button whilst keeping the three keys depressed until you hear start-up tone.

  • IPad 3 bricked after IOS update, will not restore through iTunes

    Hi,
I have an iPad 3 wifi/3g model that bricked after an IOS update 7.0.6. The update failed at about 70% (Apple Logo with progress line on screen) and rebooted into recovery mode. I've tried doing a restore through iTunes mulitple times and even looked at jailbreaking it but no luck. It always fails during the update and I have tried muliple computers (Windows and Mac) Different networks (Home/Work) but the issue is still there.
The device won't go into DFU mode and in itunes it shows the serial number as n/a like the iPad has no software on it at all. I've tried everything I can thing of and I've had plenty of experiences recoverying and restoring IOS devices in the past. Tinyumberlla and other utils won't get it out of recovery mode and now iTunes won't even try to load the firmware back on the device, it just fails after extracting software.
I'm thinking its now a hardware issue, does anyone have another solution to try?

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port.
DO NOT RELEASE BUTTON until you see picture of iTunes and plug
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note:
    1. Data will be lost if you do not have backup
    2. You must follow step 1 to step 4 VERY CLOSELY.

  • Youtube subs. dissappeared on ATV2 after update

After updating ATV2 to the newest FW, my youtube subscriptions disappeard. I tried to log off/log in again but it still says, no subs. available. On PC it works grat, so I know my subs. are there.

I tried both ways, connected and separated. I've tried two routers and every configuration on them I could think of. Like I said, music streams just fine, but video won't. I can only think it has something to do with the update, since I can stream the same video files to my iPad and to another MacBook Pro across the same network without any problems.

after updating to the new forced update via rogers... my phone ran out of battery and now its dead and wont "charge"
talked to rogers they said they have tickets sent to bb regarding this issue as its not uncommon.
i have tried 100 differnt things online and wasted my whole day fiddeling with my phone instead of with my kid
its getting annoying and sick of the fact that BB has NO COSTUMER SERVICE number you can contact.
even on these forums people are replying no ACTUAL BB employee is helping... just randomes who like i have (or i should say had) some interest in helping others with bb devices.
my phone does not turn on
it keeps looping off and on
the furthest it gets is to the loading operating system then it restarts at about the 80% mark
i did the update it stalled half way.
after it stalling for two hours at the same percentage i rebooted
    "update failed"
    redid update...
    "update failed"
    rebooted ...redid update...
    "update successfull"

    Hello,
From the beginning of your post, I thought there was no hope...but your later words provided hope, but first some clarifications.

Actually, the user has control over this. Unfortunately, the default setting is to allow the carrier to push the update out without asking the user. But, the user has always had the ability to turn that off, but of course must have done so.

This is what we understand also, but more with the Z30...I do not recall this affecting the Z10. However, it is your subsequent words, somewhat contradicting this report, that gave me more hope for your situation.

It is a shame you could not provide all details of what you have already tried...I do so hate to risk wasting your time further by providing you with accidentally redundant advice.

No news here...such is as it has always been. Refer:

While you may be "sick of" it, do understand that in actuality everyone involved is contractually constrained to that support model...including you, for you entered into a contract when you purchased your device and/or subscribed to services from a carrier.

Indeed, we volunteer here. And appreciate your appreciation of that fact.

Given that difficult to understand description, I am guessing that you have NOT tried the AutoLoader method. I recommend you do so. You may also want to use the SIC MultiWipe tool to really try and cleanse your device to prepare it for an AutoLoader installation.

Even though the update process is fairly straightforward and safe sometimes it can go wrong which is never fun when it happens to you. Rule #1 when doing a backup in any case and on any device is to have a backup.
If the phone will not properly restart or reboot you need to get it to a Nokia Care Pointof Repair Facility wher ethey shoudl be able to fix this for you. See HERE for your options which may vary from region to region.

  • IPhone 5 dead after updating to iOS 8.0.2

After updating from 7.1.2 to 8.0.2, my iPhone 5 cannot charge and is not recognized by my Mac.  All original cables.   After 24 hours, the battery is dead, so there is no way to even find a solution by restoring or anything.  It is a brick.  If I were to replace the battery by myself, I still would not know how to proceed, software-wise, as not able to downgrade back to 7.1.2 (where everything was fine) and not sure of iOS 8.1 fixes any of this.
Any ideas welcome.  Been surfing the web for weeks and still no solution found.

Hi!  I always reset my network setting after every update of iOS because of the battery drain.  I did the same for iOS 8.02, but to no effect.  The problems I am experiencing are:
    1. battery drain - just around 4hrs of regular use instead of 8hrs
    2. the phone lags even when answering calls
    3. frequent signal drops and the phone heating up
    4. reset by itself yesterday while i was switching between apps
I also updated an iPad mini first gen, but has no problem so far.
