ATV2 and DirecTV

Anyone having problems with DirecTV after installing ATV? I have setup the ATV and am able to connect to everything except Home Sharing (still trying to figure this one out) but since then I have started having problems with my DirecTV. I get a black screen. It seems as though it has lost the signal. This morning I had to unplug the ATV and reset my DVR in order to get DirecTV back. I did have the ATV setup right next to the DVR, then I moved it to the shelf above the DVR, then over to another cabinet away from the DVR/TV.

Just an update, this still hasn't been resolved.
I reset my DVR (had to since I couldn't get any channel to come on) and unplugged the ATV from my TV. After reset I just left my TV & DVR on all day (I do this anyway, I have a dog home alone) and it seemed to work fine. I turned it off for the night and turned it back on this morning with no problems. Tonight I will plug the ATV back in and see if I still have the same problems as before.

  • ATV2 and Airplay for videos???

I bought the ATV2 and when I try to stream a music from Itunes 10 by clicking the airplay icon on this program, everything is ok. But when I do the same thing with my videos from Itunes, it doesn't work at all. Is anything wrong or is it just like this?
    Thanks,
    Fabio.

OK, so I have the ATV2, latest s/w running on it (says I am up to date), itunes 10.1 installed on my macbook pro and still no video airplay support. I can of course "pull" it by going into ATV menus and connecting to my computer and it all works, but I am assuming the 10.1 release notes that mention this "new" feature meant that I could initiate the video from my computer and just select the ATV as the "output" instead of "computer" in itunes. no such luck here.
Hope Apple has better luck with ios4.2 to let the iphone/ipad initiate the video since it was pretty high on SJ's announcements back in Sept...
Oh yeah and fix the freakin wifi bug in the iphone! (adhoc)

  • Bell Fibe, ATV2 and TV shows - unable to stream from itunes

I have Bell Fibe (don't remember which package) with Bell's wireless router-N and ATV2.  I d/l movies and tv shows to my computers itunes.  I can easily stream movies, but when I try streaming TV shows, I only get the infinite waiting wheel.
Could this be a port issue?  Is ATV2 streaming movies and TV shows on a different port?  Does this make any sense?
Also, I tried the "test network" option in ATV2 and it appears it cannot connect to iTunes Store.  I assume whatever is blocking the ATV2 from accessing the iTunes store is also responsible for interference with streaming the TV shows.
    Any insights?

    iTunes prefs > Store.
Tick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.
(If it's not there, log out of hte store then log back in. It's kinda flaky)
All your purchases should show wtih a cloud icon next to the title.
Click the cloud icon to download or right click - Download.
If you just click Play, it wil stream and not download to your computer.

  • HDCP Error with atv2 and Philips TV

I have a atv2 and a Philips TV, everything is working fine, but not iTunes. I bougt 2 films on iTunes (rented) and after a few seconds (1-5 seconds) the films stops and after a while it´s displayed, that my connection does not support hdcp. But that can´t be, becaus I use a blu-ray player on that TV too. I tried with different hdmi cables, I even bought a very expensive and short one, but always the same error. I tried different hdmi inputs, even downloaded a new firmware on the Philps TV, restarted the atv but nothing worked. Now I payed for 2 films for I´m not able to see. Does any one can help me????

I would try testing with another tv to verify the problem is with the tv and not with the atv

  • Home sharing not responding after last update in ATV2 and 3

I used to watch my itunes library content with home sharing in my ATV's with no problem, listen music, watch movies, etc, but since last ATV update I can't access to my Itunes library (home sharing), I followed and read twice your troubleshooting articles, and nothing happened. I'm in the same wifi, same Apple ID in Itunes, ATV's and in my iphone Remote app, I can use the airplay with no issues, but not directly from the ATV home sharing, message in the ATV: "Could not connect to (my library), Make sure, blah blah blah...". I have that latest versions of itunes, ATV, Iphone IOS, etc, I read all your blogs and nothing seem to be working. Hope anybody can have some answers. I try in both ATV2 and 3 with same results.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Have you tried restarting the router.

yepp, I have done numerous tests today, skipped router and hard wired betwenn PC and appletv3. same problem.
same network, but from my laptop, works like a charm.. so its not reproducable on all machines.
this seems to be a itunes/bonjour problem, not ATV3 problem.

  • ATV2 and iTunes connectivity

I'm having a problem maintaining my connection between my ATV2 and iTunes.  While watching a movie, the movie will stop, and my library disappears.  Once I restart iTunes on my computer, the library reappears, and it works again for a little while.  I'm using a Linksys E3000 with current FW update.  My PS3 streams just fine from my router, and I have no other wireless issues in the house.
Please help, I'm tired of running to my computer every 10 minutes.

Well, I've been racking my brain trying to figure out why I'm having these issues, and I came down to one of two conclusions.  The most likely conclusion is that my version of Symantec (Army issued) is too controlling and is prohibiting the connection.  I uninstalled and installed McAfee, and my Apple TV is working great now.
The other conclusion is that I undid some "improvements" that I made with TuneUp Utilities 2012 also.
So I'm not sure which one fixed the issue, but I'm back in business now.  :-)
    Case Closed for now.

  • How do I get ATV2 and my iTunes to work together on MB Pro?

When I first set up my ATV2, I remember it to work along with my MB Pro/iTunes (meaning when I was streaming music to my ATV2, it also streamed to my MB Pro).....Now it does not. What did I inadvertently change?.....also a button appeared in the lower right corner of my iTunes that allowed me to choose multiple speakers (i.e. MB Pro and TV).....It no longer appears either.
    Thx in advance!!

There's the sidebar one on the far end, then in the middle there's the 'start genius' and beside that is the airplay icon. All on the bottom right side. What version of iTunes are you running?

  • HT4437 I'm using an ATV2 and an ipad successfully for with airplay. Now I added a brand new ipod touch to the setup. However, for some reason airplay for music doesn't work if my projector connected via HDMI2DVI connector is turned off.

If I turn on the projector it works fine. Interesting fact is, that this is exactly the same behavior that I have when playing videos from the iPad. Worth to mention is that the ATV2 is connected to the speakers via optical cabIe. Is there a setting that I'm missing? I can't imagine that Airplay for music from the iPod requires a turned on Video device connected to the ATV2. Thanks.

Hy Alley_Cat, that was the last bit on information that I wanted to add to the question. All devices say they are up to date. Which means that iPad and iPod run 5.0.1 and ATV 2 4.4.4(3330).

  • Why do I have to restart iTunes on my iMac to get Home Sharing to work again on my ATV2 and ATV3?

Last week I ordered two more Apple TVs 3rd generation.  I have connected them to my network and the ATV2 that I had, seems to be working differently.  I have to restart my iTunes on my iMac to get Home Sharing to work again.  I go to Apple Support and reference this page (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2972) and it seems to be the only solution, reset iTunes.
I currently have all apple products from end to end.  This doesn't seem to be working out as seamless as it should.  Any suggestions?

Until Apple gets off their butts to fix this, you can do this.  Create a workflow that 1. Closes iTunes, 2. Pauses 10 seconds, 3. Opens iTunes.  Then Save it as an Application.
    Then...
Create an Apple Script by "recording yourself" launching your new workflow.  Save that Apple Script.
    Finally..
Go into Mail, and create a Rule that when you receive an email with the subject as "Restart iTunes" it will run your Apple Script (wchich launches your workflow app).
Just send yourself an email from you chair!!!  :-)  Please reply if this works for you.  It works GREAT for me on Mountain Lion!
    Enjoy!

  • AEBS and DirecTV networking

I just got a DirecTV Plus unit and, according to the manual, it can be networked via either ethernet, PowerLine, or Wireless. Has anyone connected one of these to the LAN port on an AEBS? Is it worth it?
My internet connection is connected to the WAN port and I was wondering if connecting the DirecTV to the LAN port would allow the unit to use the internet to connect to DirecTV on Demand service.

When it worked, I just followed the steps in the manual. The first time through it didn't work, and asked if I wanted to try again. This time it asked me to pick the type of connection so I selected Wired and then it went through and connected right up.
If you are using an AirPort Express you'll need to select Wireless. I'm using the AirPort Extreme Base Station where the internet connection comes in on the WAN port.
Have you been to the DirecTV On Demand forum: http://tinyurl.com/3smrey
Nobody answered my question there but I did see what others were trying and was going to try the steps in this post if I didn't get connected: http://tinyurl.com/54gdj6

  • ATV2 and Aperture 3

My ATV2 does not show all photos from the selected folder, but only some of them. In iTunes I have selected to share photos from Aperture 3 and all photos are jpg so that should not be the problem. Does anyone have a clue how to solve this mystery?

I guess one solution is to work with referenced images only, and then inside Aperture change the reference for RAW files to a folder on the old machine when I come home.
So then I will see what Aperture 3.3 has to offer.
I usually do most of my work on my MacBook Pro. So I guess my back up of the RAW pictures can still be done from my old machine and then I keep my updated Aperture Library on my MacBook.
I better delete Aperture from the old machine since working in Aperture there is now longer an option with the incompatibilities for Aperture between Snow Leopard and Lion.
I am just now in the process of evaluating my back up strategy, and the choice of software for handling RAW-files is part of that rethinking. But I guess a total conversion to referenced images is not a bad idea after all.
So it is may be too early to tell if Aperture is part of that strategy. I guess it is wise to harvest some experience with the new version before I make a decision.
The fact that Snow Leopard is no longer compatible with the new version was something I probably must get accustomed to.
So now I am wondering if importing an Aperture 3.2.4 library into Aperture 3.3 will cause any problems.
Since now I will have to import my library from my old I-Mac (Intel Core Duo)  to my newer MacBook Pro to consolidate the two libraries.
I realize that Apple's decision is that Snow Leopard is no longer compatible with Aperture.

  • Home Sharing stopped working  ATV2 and 15" Macbook Pro OSX 10.7.2 & iTunes 10.51 (42)

I was working fine up until yesterday evening. I've tried everything from restoring and reseting the ATV2, restarting and reinstalling iTunes, turning homesharing off and back on again.
Also I can't use Airplay from my Iphone 4S or my Ipad2. Both problems starting at the same time.
I found some solutions for Win 7, but what about OSX?

Sounds like a lot of folks are having this problem with home sharing (me too) between the Apple TV 2 and iTunes...  For me, it seems to solely be a problem of the Apple TV as my iTunes Home Sharing library is always available through Remote on my family's two iPhone 4Ss and iPad 2.
Out of curiosity, is anyone who has a hard-wired ethernet connection to their Apple TV experiencing this problem of Apple TV and iTunes Home Sharing not connecting?
After spending so much preparation time before purchasing the Apple TV last week (Handbrake'ing all my DVDs over the past month), it is truly frustrating to see that this device is not currently functioning as it should.

  • ATV2 and Manual Network Configuration Issue

    Hi all,
Have 3 ATV2's in the house connected to latest gen TC via 5Ghz WiFi.  Works great with one exception.  From time to time, one of the ATV's loses the host iTunes library (connected via Home Sharing).  If I go the the host and restart itunes - all is well again.
My solution was to try manual IP's for all of the ATV's and the Mac Mini host.  Set the Mini to DHCP with manula IP- no problem.
However, when setting the ATV's, all three lose the "Movie" and "TV Shows" menu items as well as Youtube etc..  Meaning, they are obviously not connected to the WAN/Internet.  They CAN see the host shared library.
Yes, it would seem my static config is wrong, BUT, I used the numbers already populated when I swtiched from DHCP.  Would these numbers not be the ones assigned using DHCP?  Would it not be safe to assume that simply assigning these manually would retain the same connectivity?
I switched all but the host mini back to DHCP and all is well again.  However, I would like to go with a static set up.  Am I missing somehting?
    Thanks in advance!
    Stuart

    Thanks for the reply!
When you say "you also need to assugn adresses from the router" what exactly do you mean?
with exception of Mac Adress Control, I don't see a setting anywhere in Airport Utility that would allow me to assign specific IP's to specific devices...
In the past, simply setting an IP manually on a device would make it static on the network.  No intervention on the TC was necessary.
    Thanks again,
    Stuart
