ATV2 - Can I connect via HDMI to TV and connect to outdoor speakers also?
Currently have an airport express on my mac and i just bought Apple TV (2nd Generation). Essentially I would like to connect ATV2 via HDMI to my TV to play movies, see photos, and play music but I would also like to connect ATV2 (perhaps via optical output?) to a receiver or other speaker system to play music outside on my deck.
Is this possible? I was told at the Apple store prior to purchasing that it is possible. Has anyone here accomplished this? Both connect to TV and also to another audio component??
The answer to your question is yes.
I currently have the HDMI running through my receiver to my TV for movies and music in the Home Theater, and the optical output (going thruogh an optical to analog converter) to the Multi-Room input on the receiver. This provides music to three other sets of speakers in the house.
The Multi room input on my Marantz receiver only supports an analog input but with the converter everything works great.

Hi, the day before yesterday I turned on my tv which was connected via HDMI out on the mac mini to HDMI in on my TV. Everything was working fine, however I have been trying to set up dual monitoring on another monitor using an HDMI to VGA adapter to my second monitor but nothing was working. I was about to watch a film from the mac to the TV wen I thought it might be the resolution on the hdmi out why it wasn't working on the monitor but was on the TV so I changed the settings and the hdmi to the TV cut out. My main monitor is connected by thunderbolt to VGA adapter and works fine. I can change all the settings for screen resolution on the main monitor and have tried every setting on it then unplugging and plugging in the hdmi cable from the mac to the TV. I get the blue flash on the screen so I know it is being detected but here is where it gets weird.
I figured I would try the thunderbolt to HDMI converter I originally bought for my iMac and again the blue screen flashes up but there is no blue flash or any sort of detection on the TV.
The whole time there is nothing showing up on the screen, even when I unplug my main display from thunderbolt to VGA (the main monitor) and connect the thunderbolt to hdmi adapter and plug in the hdmi to the TV.
I know it's not the hdmi cable as I have tested it on my youview box to my tv and it worked fine.
I also know its not the tv as iv connected my friends windows laptop to the TV using the same cable so it must be the settings on the mac.
I have tried doing a time machine restore to the day I bought it and have had no problems so far until I changed the settings. Why oh why did I mess about with it!!
If anyone can help please let me know ASAP.
It doesn't show up the HDMI output in audio anymore either, however like I say it flashes blue wen I connect the hdmi but seems to have no idea that the HDMI is connected in the display settings! It's so frustrating. I'm going to call the mac support today but if anyone on here hash as any similar problems n fixed them please let me know.
Btw I'm running Mac OS X 10.8.4. I know I can connect via a long VGA cable but that's not really the point. I, at least would like to get my mirrored desktop on my tv back from HDMI!Ok so I happened to figure it out while on the phone to apple support. Even though the guy was very nice, I think I knew more than him! He was explaining very basic resolution principles I played about. I had the second option in displays resolution. All I did was unplug the HDMI cable, click on 'best for display' then plugged the HDMI in and my resolution on the normal monitor changed to the normal blue, then went black momentarily and then changed to a strange resolution but another window appeared that said SONY BRAVIA HDMI at the top! Hey presto! Don't know why it didn't do it yesterday - I probably left the HDMI cable in or something! Oh well. Problem solved!

If you'd like to change the audio output of your Mac, you can do so by accessing the Sound preferences in your System Preferences.
Before you start, open the Output pane of Sound preferences (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Sound, then click Output).
Choose a sound output device
From the list of sound output devices, select the one you want to use. All sound output devices available to your Mac are listed, including the computer’s internal speakers, devices plugged into your computer’s sound port (), USB speakers, and AirPlay devices.
For any device plugged into the computer’s sound port, choose Headphones.

When I connect my Mac Mini 2011 with Lion to a TV via HDMI and an earphone cable is plugged in, it´s not possible to choose sound out via hdmi, as opposed to connection via the minidisplay port. Anybody knows how to fix this?
Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
Go to your Finder
Choose the Go Menu
Choose Computer
Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
Choose your "Library" Folder
Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
Empty the Trash
Restart from the Apple Menu
When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

L7680 Can't connect via Network works fine direct connected via USB Please Help!

I have an HP L7680 that has been having this same problem since I purchased it and the only cure that has ever worked is to completley reload Windows XP and start over which I am very tired of reloading XP to resolve a printer problem.
This has been posted by several other people but I don't see where anyone has posted a fix.
When I first install the printer everything usualy works fine and it runs fine for a few mionths. Then the first indicatrion of a problem is the scanner quits working. Then when I try to reinstall the software the printer does not show up. I read and tried every solution and have spent nuerous hours with HP support to no avail.
The printer works fine direct connected via a USB cable and it works fine with two other computers on the same network. One of the other computers has the exact same OS and is the same HP model laptop.
I don't think the uninstall is completley removing all the files or reinstalling everything fresh when I reload. I have tried the Level 1 through 4 uninstall utility posted on HP's site and have tried all sugestions posted in this forum.
Below is a better rundown of the problem.
When the Scan function is called, a "Scanning" window appears, and hangs
I have an HP Laptop with XP32 Bit software
Once the scanning window appears it stays there forever
Only way to clear scanning page is to terminate hpoews01.exe with Task Manager
Scanner does not show up in Paint or Photoshop ect.
Web Scan Does work and printer shows up using IP address.
Scanner shows up fine on a web page
HP support in India has been no help and now my printer is out of warranty so even less help

DaveI had a similar problem with my OfficeJet L7680 and here's how I fixed it.

I lost my L7680 network link (using CAT5 from printer to router) and could not print to it over the network. However, I could print from a PC with a USB cable directly to the printer, but there are currently three PCs connected wireless to the network. I think I have a viable solution for anyone with the same problem and is not related to the operating system of the PCs.
Originally, I went to the HP site and downloaded the program for the L7680, Critical Update to Enhance Reliability of Network and USB Connectivity and Improve System Responsive.... This worked wonders until my modem and/or router went down. I could see ink levels from my PC, scan, print, and so on. Then I somehow lost my network connection again. When I checked the network settings on the L7680 printer panel (Setup, 5 - Network, 1 - View Network Settings, 2 - Display Wired Settings), I noticed a different IP address than the original 192.168.1.100. Once I figured out how to reset the printer to that one, it connected and worked as it should.
Here's how to reset it: 1. Power down all devices (wired and wireless) to the router (I even disconnected the printer power cord and CAT5 cable at the printer); 2. Power down the modem and router - wait a minute or so before powering back up; 3. Power up the modem and give it a minute or so to go through system checks, which will normally acquire a new IP address from your ISP; 4. Power up the router and let it go through its system checks; 5. Connect the CAT5 cable from the printer to the router and power it up before you power up and connect any other computers. This should assign the printer the first IP address from the router, which should be 192.168.1.100. Once the printer goes through its start-up checks, you can check its assigned IP address from its panel. 6. Power up any other PCs or devices to the router. They should be assigned successive IP address numbers from the router. You can check these using a browser in the PC after typing in 192.168.1.1, logging in to the router, and checking the appropriate place in the router driver/software displayed in the browser. I was not able to reassign IP addresses in my router's driver/software to individual devices, but this method did the trick. I did not try to change the IP address of the printer from its panel to match what had been inadvertently reassigned to it. That might be another option to synchronize the printer and router with the same IP address. If the printer loses its connection again, you'll have to synchronize what the printer has with what the router shows. This worked for me. -

Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address shown starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be as simple as restarting your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make/model, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc. -

I'm having trouble with back to my MAC. I had everything working on my home wifi network but now I am at my daughter's house and trying to connect via a verizon hotspot wifi connection. I'm wondering if the Verizon hookup is a problem.
I finally figured it out. Needed to update her Airport firmware and allow guest access, and also changed Sharing preferences to Allow Access for All Users.

Your iPhone is probably locked to your former cell carrier. In such case only that carrier can unlock it, so you'll need to contact the carrier. Note that unless things have changed recently only 3 offers unlocking. If you used a different carrier, they do not appear to offer unlocking which means that your son will not be able to use your old iPhone. But call your carrier and ask.

I have an imac i5 and have about 50 floppy disks I would love to read. I found a Sony 2x fdd floppy that connects via usb. When I connect it, nothing happens. The drive does not show on my monitor. Any suggestions or my I just out of luck?
Do you have Finder Preferences set to show other disks? Nothing wil show on the Desltop until you make that change:

Can not select TV speakers when connected via HDMI
I have a MBP fully updated connected to a Sony TV vis HDMI/miniport. Up until today this configuration was working fine. Suddenly, I can no longer select the HDMI speakers in my audio preferences. They are recognized and appear on the list but when I select them it has no effect. Before today, when the TV was connected the HDMI output would be automatically selected and I could not access the volume control from the menu bar, which is the way I prefer it.
I have restarted with no success in changing this behaviour. If I open/close the lid, the sound goes to the proper settings for about 2s but then the HDMI speakers are de-selected and the built-in speakers are highlighted. I can manually select the TV speakers but the setting has no effect.
However, I *am* getting audio output through the TV but can not control volume from the mac or any app. I slide the volume slider on the menu bar and the audio output does not change. The sound is also playing from the laptop speakers which is highly annoying.and now there is no audio through the TV at all. TV works fine with other inputs such as PS3. Any help?

Thinkpad Edge S430 - Windows does not detect external display connected via HDMI
On a Thinkpad S430 with HD4000 integrated graphics, an external display connected via a HDMI cable is not detected at all when using Windows. The system is fully updated as of the time of posting this message, both via the Lenovo Update tool as well as Windows update.
The Intel driver version is 8.15.10.2696. It appears that this is the latest version, since it does not offer an update when I try to auto-update it via Device Manager.
NB: I am running Ubuntu 12.04 with kernel 3.4.0 on the same machine, and the external display works perfectly fine with this software configuration.
Hence I think that it's very likely that this is a Windows-specific driver issue.
Would Lenovo happen to have a driver update in the works? Alternatively, I will be thankful for any suggestions about possible resolution of this problem.skn2011 wrote:
