ATV3 Airplay stopped working

I recently set up my Apple TV 3 in my college dorm, which uses a WPA2 Enterprise network, to airplay from my 2011 MBP on 10.8.2. It was working fine (Airplay, mirroring, home sharing), then all of a sudden Airplay and Mirroring stopped working. The icon still appears in the status bar of os x and iTunes, but whenever I select Apple TV as my audio device in preferences, it hangs for a while and then reverts back to internal speakers. If I try to start mirroring, it changes my screen res but nothing displays on my TV, then after about 30 seconds it reverts back. If I try selecting Apple TV within iTunes, It hangs on 'Connecting to "Apple TV"' for a while, then reverts back to internal speakers.
I've tried restarting both my computer and ATV multiple times, I've done a factory restore of my ATV3, turned off bluetooth on my MBP and ATV, disabled IPv6 on my MBP. No luck so far.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

I should also point out that home sharing is still working, as are all other apple tv apps (youtube, nba etc)

  • Airplay stopped working on ipad3

Hi airplay previously worked fine on my ipad 3 - streamed to my apple tv which is plugged in to the router.
Suddenly it has stopped working - I open airplay on the ipad, select apple tv , it pauses for a while then flicks back to ipad selected.
I've seen a post that says I shoud give different names to the 2.4 and 5 ghz ssids of my router - I'm looking into that, but it is not easy (isp modded the router and doesn't distribute any technical details / manual - good game!).  Any other suggestions?
    Thanks
Rebooting the router fixed this problem.

  • Airplay stops working after 30 mins

Airplay mirroring works fine for about 30 mins then stops, not sure what the problem is.

Are you using the Recording feature?  If so, turn that off and try again, Mine was crapping out on the recording and once I turned that off it worked fine.  I have 3 other WVC80N cams that work fine recording, but this one, just won't play nice when I have recording on! wierd!

  • Airplay stopped working with Denon/Marantz receiver

Has anyone a working Airplay (audio) setup with OS 10.8/10.9, iTunes 10/11 and any Denon/Marantz AV receiver with native Airplay support?
Mine worked perfectly, but stopped working about a year ago under OS 10.7 oder 10.8 and some iTunes 10 version - and no OS / iTunes / firmware update has restored it since then.
    My setup
Airport Extreme as router - the network is wired (gigabit switch), wireless only for wireless devices such as iPhone
    Mac Pro (2008), OS 10.9, iTunes 11.1.3
    2x Apple TVs 3rd gen
    Denon 3312 AV receiver
    Marantz 5006 AV receiver
    iPhone 5s
All devices have the latest software/firmware.
I used to use iTunes Airplay music streaming to my AV receivers, which support Airplay natively - I selected the receivers for this feature and switched from Onkyo receivers.
Airplay music streaming from iTunes to the receivers worked perfectly, until it suddenly stopped working sometime a year ago - which means, the audio stream will simply stop playing after a few minutes, and the receiver needs a reset to work again als Airplay speaker.
It curiously still worked wirelessly from iOS devices - which was a workaround, but also stopped working in the beforementioned manner - I guess since iOS 7.
On the same network Airplay audio streaming to the Apple TVs works without a problem.
It seems to me that Apple has something changed in the AirPlay protocol whichs breaks compatibility with (licensed) 3rd party Airplay audio devices.
According to some forum articles there was a problem with IPv6 and Airplay streaming and the advice was given to deactivate IPv6 in network settings (which was possible via GUI in OS 10.6 but requires a terminal command in OS 10.7 upwards) - this helped initially with iTunes 10, but doesn't make a difference in iTunes 11.
Since the problem exists for over a year my hopes at Apple fixing it are gone...
It's really frustrating, since it used to work wonderfully - it's the exact opposite of the Apple experience: it simply does not work (anymore).
    Has anyone further insight?

Never mind.  I learned that in the Control Center if you tap Airplay and then scroll down, the Mirroring button is available.  Once I turned Mirroring on it worked.  Hey Apple, how about making the Mirroring button visible without hunting for it?  Maybe in the next release?  Otherwise, loving my Apple products!

  • Why did my phone's airplay stop working when I updated to ios 6.1.1

I recently updated my iPhone 4S to the new operating system ios 6.1.1, and I now cannot connect my phone to my apple tv through airplay.  I still can connect my wife's iPhone (3GS) to the apple TV, so I know it is not a network thing or something like that.
Does anyone know of a solution?
If you use airplay with you apple TV, I would reccommend holding off on the update until this error is fixed.

Today, I did a restore on my iPhone 4S, then reinstalled ios 6.1.1.    My airplay works now as I had set it up as a new phone instead of restoring the from one of the backups.
Sometimes when a person restores a phone from one of the backups, you will just reinstall the previous problem.  I also did not setup iCloud when I reinitialized my phone for I did not want the processing to be impeded.
I'll setup iClould later and see if that causes airplay to stop working as I think that was the cause.
I believe the problem was that there was just too many apps running in the background and too little ram and/or processing power left for airplay.  With the new ios 6.1.1, it probably takes up more processing than previous versions and just enough to shutdown airplay and keep it from running.
Miket502,  you might have a simular problem.  I'm not telling you what to do with your phone, but it may be a solution to do what I did.

  • AirPlay stopped working

jjust wondering can anyone help me Iv been using my iPad to watch Netflix on and it was working fine when I used AirPlay to play through my Apple TV . All off a sudden this has stopped working , Netflix is working fine untill I use AirPlay it keeps saying unable to play video and closing the app. Iv tried everytging rebooting , restarting . Even used a different Netflix account and still no luck

I had this same issue, the restart wont help, down rank dat guy!! ROAR!
It has happened to me a lot, if your using the AirPortExpress reset it to factory and reset the network that you have, then on the iOS device reset it network information. Make sure you dont have other devices connected to that AirPlay device. For me I kept finding my iPad worked on Airplay but not my iPhone, so Id have to just use the iPad, but it may be versa for you, so try to check those settings and other devices. Sometimes the router just give it a refresh too. If it does not work, Ive done other stuff to try it but send a reply.

  • AirPlay stops working when iPad screen blanks

I found that after upgrading my iPad 2 to iOS 5 and Apple TV to iOS 4.4 AirPlay video no longer continues in the background. When I move away from the iPad 2 app that is steaming to the TV or the iPad 2 locks itself (screen blanks), the Apple TV stops playing the video. This worked fine before the iOS updates.

I have exactly the same issue with iPad2/OS 5.0.1 and Apple TV 2/OS 4.4.3(3323), it happens with all video applications and browsers in both cases, e.g. auto locking or swithing to another application.
The issue doesn't happen before I upgrade to iOS 5, this really *****, it makes the Airplay completely useless!
I can't believe this stupid bug doesn't be found by the QA tests, they're making cool features like Airplay Mirror, but they made Airplay unable to use at the same time.
I wish it could be fixed in 5.0.1 update but "NO", so now I would have to wait for 5.0.2. I really hope somebody in Apple's engineering team is looking at this forum and post, since this is the first time I'm posting here and I don't hope it unresponded...

  • Airplay stops working after a call

I am listening to music using AirPlay from my iPhone 5, iOS7.02, thru an AirPort express latest generation.
If I receive a call, music stops (expected). After finishing the call, there is no sound from the AirPort Express. Music should come back out of my APE.
The iPhone shows the correct connection and music playing back.
The only solution I have found is to disable WiFi and close the Music app in the iPhone. Then re-enable WiFi, open music and it starts working again.
I checked the software version of APE in it is the latest.
    Any ideas?

  • Airplay stops working at backround. new ios problem??

    Hi,
    i have ipad 2...
i Updated my ipad's ios and i found out that when im streaming video from youtube or videostream to TV.. i cant multitask enymore.. or the airplay video will stop playing. is this a new ios bug or FEATURE? and is there coming a fix for this or...? for me this is a BIIIG problem...

I powered Apple TV down, then plugged it back in. That brought back my ability to connect with AirPlay.
It's a hassle, but seems to be an Apple TV issue.
    I think.

  • Airplay stopped working on MacBook Air wirelessly

I have a MacBook Air, iPad2, iPhone 5, and two apple TVs. Up to two months ago I was able to stream from my MacBook Air to my Apple TV wirelessly. Suddenly in midst of a film the connection was lost and I have not been able to get it back. The Airplay icon went missing from my title ribbon and Display Preferences can not detect either of my Apple TVs.
    Trouble shooting steps:
    1. The issue is limited to my MacBook Air. I have no difficulty streaming through AirPlay from either my iPad or iPhone.
    2. I have made sure that I am on the same wireless network on all my devices. Still my MacBook Air is unable to detect my Apple TVs.
    3. I have re-set my Apple TVs to their factory settings several times and am still unable to establish a connection between them and my MacBook Air.
    4. When my MacBook Air is connected to my network through Ethernet and my Apple TVs are still connected wirelessly to my network, the Airplay icon reappears on my title ribbon and I am able to find and recognize the Apple TVs either through the icon.
    5. Even when my MacBook Air is plugged into my network, the streaming is very slow with a patchy picture and intermittent loss of sound. My network is running at 50 Mega and I have no problem with the quality of sound and picture when streaming wirelessly from my iPad or iPhone.
    6. When both the MacBook Air and Apple TV are Ethernet wired to the network, streaming between the two is fast and clear. The problems with patchy picture and sound is resolved.
    Tentative conclusions:
The wireless ability of my MacBook Air works fine and I tend to use this option most of the time with this device. However, there appears to be an incompatibility between the Airplay and wireless capabilities of my MacBook Air.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this incompatibility?

sounds like the router have begun blocking some of the required ports for some reason or another

  • Airplay Stopped Working - Can't Find B&W Speakers on iTunes

As of last night, my speakers can't be found by iTunes. It had been working fine since I got the speakers three weeks ago.
Today, I tried cold resetting the Bowes and Wilkins speakers and set everything up again from scratch. The speakers show on my wifi, but iTunes can't find them.
Anyone know of a solution or heard of the same problem elsewhere?

    I got it working.
I tried pinging my speakers (and other devices) from my iMac and it didn't work. I reset my wifi router and that did the trick.

  • TS1741 Airplay stopped working between iPhone 5 and Apple TV. Icon no longer appears cannot connect remote app anymore either?

    Anybody have ideas why.

Most likely because your phone or your Apple TV has lost WiFI connection to your local network.  Not enough info in your post for a more specific suggestion.
