Atypical (apparently) no connection iChat issue
I day old MacBook running 10.4.6, starting iChat gives error:
Could not connect to AIM
Unable to log in for some unknown reason
10: 40 PM [or whenever I try it]
I have a 6yr old dotMac account with no issues.
Crazy thing is: my PowerPC Mini does seem to connect... I had the data transfered over from my 12"Powerbook by the Apple store, Trafford Centre Manchester. Has something maybe gotten lost in the translation?
Hi Primo,
Thanks for separating your problem to a new thread.
Can you confirm that you have changed the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab > Streaming drop down setting to match your download speed ? (or max of 1.5 meg if your connection is faster)
In iChat 3 you have the option to allow Multiple Logins
(in iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Account > Account information tab).
This allows you to login from different computers and even different apps on the same computer with the same Screen name.
Does this apply to you ?
The Mac firewall is different in Tiger as it allows you to set TCP and UDP protocols to the ports you have open, if it is ON.
Settings copied from Panther get set as TCP and iChat needs most of then to set for UDP. See here http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4.html for pics and explanation.
Also in the Firewall ( System Preferences > Sharing > Firewall tab) there is a Advanced button. In here the "Block All UDP Traffic" should be unchecked.
Your modem should be using a method of opening the iChat ports that allows multiple computers to access the same ports. Port Forwarding on most modems and routers will not do this.
In iChat > Preferences > Accounts have you set the account as an @mac account ?
You have the choice of AIM or @mac (.mac actually) in the drop down.
Have you set your .mac account in System Preferences > .mac ?
Use this FAQ to check your Password on both computers to see if they match.
As the .mac account works elsewhere I feel this is a setting somewhere rather than the AIM login problems the others were having. That effects the Buddy List data base and stops Login and would effect the account no matter which computer you used as the Buddy list is kept on the AIM servers.

Help! My Canon MG5520 printer is apparently not connected to my late 2013 MacBook Pro!
Help! My Canon MG5520 printer is apparently not connected to my late 2013 MacBook Pro! I have had this printer a few months and everything has been working fine until today. I did I have to turn my wifi router on and off this morning, so I think that might be it. I'm not extremely tech savy, so if anyone could lend a hand, I would appreciate it!! I've tried unplugging it, turning it on and off again, quitting it my from laptop, nothing works. Do I need to reconnect it to the wifi? How do I do this? I turns on fine and doesn't give my any error messages, it'st just my laptop that says it isn't connected. Sorry if this is a stupid question.
Thanks for providing complete information. It seems like you've ruled out faulty docking cable, bad USB port, and software issue on the new Mac. And since the shuffle still works fine on the older Mac, it's not a problem on the shuffle.
Some things to try...
Connect the MacBook to its power adapter, so that it's not running the battery power. If any other USB devices are connected, try connecting the shuffle as the only device, to a direct USB port on the MacBook.
If you can keep it connected for long enough, go to the shuffle's Settings screen in iTunes and set it to Enable disk use (and Apply). This will keep the shuffle's disk mounted continuously, instead of iTunes unmounting the shuffle's disk when not syncing.
If you happen to have an old USB 2.0 hub that has its own power supply, connect the shuffle through the hub to see if that make any difference. The new Macs have USB 3.0, so if that's the cause, maybe a USB 2.0 hub in between can act as a "buffer" and make it work. -
My Internet Connection Dropping Issues...
I too am having the occasional Internet connection dropping issues. Phone and TV continue to work.
Since I had Fios installed last November I am on my third ONT and 2nd router. When I called in my latest drop yesterday the call center person told me I had a hardware issue because my computer had a valid IP address assigned. I tried to teach her something about DHCP but she would not listen to me. I asked her to please reboot the ONT and she refused because "nothing was indicating a problem with it". Whatever...
Each time the Internet goes out the router acts fat and happy. I have full green on WAN Coax, and strangely enough, a flashing green Internet activity indicator. Logging into the router shows that I am MOCA connected and assigned a WAN IP address. But I can't get out past the router at all. On the event that led to me getting a replacement router the lady said she could talk to the ONT just fine, but not the router. We reset the router and ONT port numerous times and the connection finally came back up.
I am not sure of the protocol between the ONT and router, but I think the ONT is keeping enough signal going to make the router "think" its happy, but then the ONT is not passing packets at some point. After yesterdays call and the refusal to reset the ONT I just hung up on her and reset it myself. Of course everything started working just fine...like I thought it would.
So what is the issue here? Is MOCA a mess? Is an Ethernet connection to the ONT better? I am utterly disgusted with this miserable system and can't afford to continue having these outages.
I should also add the other wonderful features I have seen. When I tried to powercycle the *new* router yesterday it decided to dump its entire config including my port forwarding. Nice... And I have given up using wireless because if I set the router for WPA it locks up so hard that it takes a master reset to get going again.
Anyone have some advice on getting this system stable?I would try using a non-verizon router. I used the Netgear router and it fixed my problem. The Verizon router seem to be pieces of garbage and they over-hear.

Hi everyone...
is there any way to connect ichat video to TV with or without apple TV?
If yes could you tell me how to do that and requiriments I need?
ThanksOK, Ben.
Need to understand more
You can download a copy of the manual for your particular iBook by optionClicking on the link for one of these manuals:
iBook G4 (Mid 2005) User's Guide (Manual), or
iBook G4 (Late 2004) Getting Started (Manual)
If you do not know which G4 iBook you have, I suggest you download both and look at the pictures to select the appropriate manual.
Regardless of which is for your iBook, Chapter 3 contains instruction for connecting to a TV and for using your Headphone port for connecting to audio. Instructions are very similar for either G4 iBook version.
If you cannot find help with the downloaded manual either, you can get a start by clicking on these web links:
Connecting a television to use as a display,
Changing your display settings when connected to a TV, and
Setting up multiple displays as an extended desktop
If you need connectors, cabling, or additional help, I suggest you see your local Apple retailer or computer equipment dealer. He can supply any hardware you may need and answer any questions you have about the information in the links above.
Cheers,
Jim

Connection pool issues with Mysql
Hi,
I have defined sufficient read connections (50) in the toplink configuration, I am finding toplink is not releasing the connections in Mysql, this is when run from Jboss App server.
Is anyone aware of toplink connection pool issues with MySql?
thanksTopLink always closes connections, I cannot see how this could occur.
Please include your persistence.xml or sessions.xml. Also ensure you are closing your EntityManager or ClientSession, especially if using exclusive connections.
Also include the exception you are getting.

Help please!! Untrusted connection no issuer chain provided...
firefox untrusted connection no issuer chain was provided...
I cannot browse almost any website without receiving this error. I've tried the adjusting the date/clock and I've deleting the cert8. data in the profile for firefox. Nothing is working.
Also, when I view certificates, it says that it won't be enabled until 7/21/2014?? What's up with that?
Can anyone please help me...?You can retrieve the certificate and check details like who issued certificates and expiration dates of certificates.
*Click the link at the bottom of the error page: "I Understand the Risks"
Let Firefox retrieve the certificate: "Add Exception" -> "Get Certificate".
*Click the "View..." button and inspect the certificate and check who is the issuer of the certificate.
You can see more Details like intermediate certificates that are used in the Details pane.
If "I Understand the Risks" is missing then this page may be opened in an (i)frame and in that case try the right-click context menu and use "This Frame: Open Frame in New Tab".
*Note that some firewalls monitor (secure) connections and that programs like Sendori or FiddlerRoot can intercept connections and send their own certificate instead of the website's certificate.
*Note that it is not recommended to add a permanent exception in cases like this, so only use it to inspect the certificate. -
MBP wifi "connection timeout" issue
My 2010 macbook pro has trouble connecting to many wifi networks. It works fine connecting to my network at home, but any sort of public wifi or hotel or friend's network is likely to give it trouble.
I get the "connection timeout" issue, and I know that I'm not the only one, but I didn't manage to find anything that worked from scouring this forum. Just to delinate the issue: all my other devices (iPad, iPhone, other laptops) connect fine to wifi networks in exactly the same places. I managed to find a workaround by getting a cheap wifi dongle that connects fine in precisely the same places that the MBP's built-in antenna does not. Is there any way to fix this, or am I just stuck dongling it up?Try going into Network Preferences > Wi-Fi > Advanced. Click the network you're trying to join and click the minus button. This forces your mac to forget any saved credentials associated with that network and it will try to make a fresh connection. You can also try Network Preferences > Assist me... > Diagnostics to give you some more troubleshooting suggestions. It will probably tell you to restart your router/modem which sometimes works but you're usually not allowed to do to this to a public wifi hotspot.
It's also possible that your AirPort Extreme card, which is the part your mac uses to connect to wifi, is failing. Since 2010's are no longer under warranty, you can look up the iFixit guides to see if you're feeling adventurous enough to replace it yourself (if it is replaceable). -
IChat issue with Siemens SE567 Router
I have just signed up with a new ISP and they insist I have to use the Siemens SE567 router. It works fine for the internet most of the time, but I can not do screen sharing or video chat. The strangest thing is I could do both with my last ISP the only difference now is the router and ISP. I have tried all different configurations and been on tech support with both Apple and my ISP to not avail. Anyone else having any issues with this router?
Thanks,
PamHi,
I am not sure if this was you I was Texting to yesterday (20th).
I linked the person to the Port Forward site
Their Set up pages were blue and white as opposed to this grey and Orange.
They were set to UPnP and NAPT as it is called on this device had no ports set.
The Computer was using Tiger with the Firewall Off.
Stealth (Ping Blocking) was also Off
We tried calling from both ends.
The result was an Error 7 at the Siemens end until we made sure the Quicktime Setting was done.
A second computer that had no camera had iChat turned Off to prevent any confusion about IP addresses.
The User did not think the ISP Offered VoIP and had no Vonage device (an issue with ichat 2 and 3)
My Error 8 log did not identify that the far end was using Tiger and iChat 3
(Should list port 5060 as SIP port)
Firewall in the Siemens was set to Low.
DMZ was Off.
There seem to be no Ping Blocking (Not that the log got that far) or DoS or SPI settings.
File Sharing in System Preferences > Sharing is not an issue in Tiger so not checked.
From reviewing the Chat I can see I did not check if System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming was at 1.5Mbps
If you have to change this and iChat is Open restart iChat.
Also in the Firewall on the Mac in the Advanced Button is Block UDP Connection Active ?
IF so it will need deselecting as most of iChat's A/V Stuff is on UDP.
The Port Forward set of Pic suggest that the one they had was Branded for Telus as an ISP so it could be that this has slightly different software/firmware.
I suggested posting here as I had run out of iDeas on this device.

Connection timeout issues with Time Capsule
I have a first generation 500 GB Time Capsule, with AT&T Uverse internet service. The device worked fine up until 3 weeks ago, at which time I received a "connection timeout" error when trying to connect from any of the computers in the house. At that time, the computers were showing that the wireless network was available, but I was just unable to connect. I could connect to the device using the ethernet connection, and the wired computer would still successfully backup.
I restarted the Time Capsule, and everything immediately returned to normal. Everything worked fine for about a week, and then the problem occurred again. The issue has been occurring more and more frequently, to the point that it now is only working for several hours before requiring a reset.
Has anybody experienced anything similar to this? Any thoughts on a solution to this?Hi I had similar problems. I moved houses got my own cable modem and tried to use the TC as my wireless, as i had it in my other home. The connection would drop constantly and i was unable to use the TC as a wireless device, it would also freeze my computer (mac book Pro). After asking everyone for help i found that when i moved the TC next to the cable modem in the garage it all worked. Apparently the ethernet cable that ran from the garage to the living room was only using 4 of the 8 pins and thus was dropping the connection. i am now connected directly from the modem to the tc and it has not failed yet (cross my fingers). After all this was suppose to be wireless and thus i don't need to have it right next to my computer. The signal is strong and it has not caused any problems. I didn't mess with the settings after i did a hard reset on the TC. So far so good. hopes this helps.

I recently got a 2011 17" MBP (10.6.7). I've been using a 2008 15" MBP (10.6.7).
I communicate daily with colleagues using video iChat.
The 2008 MPB has run iChat without any issues for months.
When I try the 17", I get bandwidth issues (my signal breaks up at the other end, video freezes, aberrant audio) The connection doctor shows my rate of tranmission dropping dramatically.
I tried shutting off all other programs and it worked okay. Starting up Safari caused it to choke. I tried switching from wireless to ethernet and it had no affect.
I tried reducing the bandwidth to 500 kbps and it didn't fix the problem.
I can start up the 15" MPB on Wifi, connect flawlessly to the same people, even while running Safari.
Clearly the issue is somewhere in the 17"MBP. Any recommendations?
Don't know if this is related but it does feel like the 17" does not load web pages in Safari as fast as the 15" but I haven't documented it precisely.
Thanks,
DanHi,
It does sound a bit odd.
Most likely there is a process running that is using the Processor(s) quite heavily.
Open the Activity Monitor (In Applications/Utilities).
In the window there is a drop down in the top bar.
Select All Processes in this drop down.
The List is normally is reverse order with the things that loaded or started later near the top. (The PID numbers)
You should find that most things you are running are above the Finder's icon.
iChat should be listed if Open.
iChatAgent (A support app that has no icon) should also be listed
iChat should show a fairly small number in the CPU column and iChatAgent should be at zero.
Depending on the Processor iChat should rise to about 20% during a Video Chat
I would look down the CPU column first to see what is showing as being in use.
A Web Browser should be at rest, certainly below 5% once a page has loaded.
A Pic of mine
I use Skitch to grab pics and edit the comments on them so it shows relatively high on my G4/1Ghz Dual Processor. (Green Stuff)
iChat was open but no chats were happening (Some of the red)
The Activity Monitor was what I had open as well so it shows CPU usege (Blue)
The thing to look for is unexpected items listed as running.
Compare these to the things in System Preferences > Accounts > (your account) Login Items.

Hi everyone,
I am using OS X 10.7.3 2011 Macbook Pro 2.2 Ghz Intel Core I7 8GG 1333MHz DDR3 RAM 500GB HD.
What happens when I try to call someone in FaceTime: Webcam light is on and I see myself on my screen. It rings and after a while it says "X is not available for FaceTime (or similar).
In iChat I can text chat, but video calls do not work. In Skype, I can do audio talking, but when I try to use my video, it fails to connect.
This seems to indicate to me that there is a system-wide, rather than user or program-specific problem, in which my system cannot connect to others when using my webcam.
Can anyone offer any guidance on this matter? I am pretty tech savvy. On my home network I have tried port forwarding/opening and all that, without luck. I am worried that maybe I could have made a mistake in terminal or something some time ago, but I don't go in there very often and it is usually for very specific things.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am moving away for four months, and I really need this to work so that I can chat with my lovely girlfriend. Please see the notes below prior to commenting.
Cheers
Notes:
Internet is working fine. I use three different network, one of which is wired and works fine.
I have tried to create new users, still no luck
Webcam works fine in PhotoBooth
I am logged into FaceTime properly (this is simple, right?)
Reinstalling OS X to fix this problem is not an option
I have tried FaceTime with several people with several devices (e.g., iPad, iMac, iPhone)
FaceTime on my iPhone works with other people on same networkPlease read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Cisco ASA 5505 Ipsec VPN and random connection dropping issues.
Hello,
We are currently having issues with a ASA 5505 Ipsec VPN. It was configured about 7-8 months ago and has been running very well..up until the last few weeks. For some reason, the VPN tends to randomly disconnect any user clients connected a lot. Furthermore, sometimes it actually connects; however does not put us on the local network for some reason and unable to browse file server. We have tried rebooting the ASA a few times and our ISP Time Warner informed us there are no signs of packet loss but still unable to pinpoint the problem. Sometimes users close out of VPN client completely, reopen several times and then it works. However it's never really consistent enough and hasn't been the last few weeks. No configuration changes have been made to ASA at all. Furthermore, the Cisco Ipsec VPN client version is: 5.0.70
Directly below is our current running config (modded for public). Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, if everything looks good...then I will defer back to our ISP Time Warner:

I use my iChat to do video chat with my granddaughter. I used to do iChat without any problem to connect with her in New York. However, After Mobil Me account closed, I accounted connection problems frequently. Sometime, I had to turn-off my computer then re-started the computer to make it work again. . When I had this problem to connect on iChat (the Mac did not allow me to choose "available"), the poped out window message said that " the iChat lost the Mobil Me account [email protected]" "The server connection was unexplected disconnect". Do you know what is my problem? My Apple ID for iCloud and previous Mobil Me account should be [email protected] I am no longer using [email protected] for Mobil Me e-mail address. My current iCloud e-mail address is [email protected] is no longer of using [email protected] account for my e-mail. If this is the problem, please let me know how to remove the [email protected] account from your system. Thanks!

Opening and closing Multiple TCP connections issues
Hi all I am having an issue with the TCP VI’s and wondering if anyone has experienced this issue.
My application is required to scan 50-100 IP addresses (statically assigned) and discover if an Ethernet device is connect at that IP address. Currently I am able to achieve this by opening a TCP connection and testing the error cluster to determine if a timeout has occurred (no timeout error means Ethernet device available at the IP address). I then ensure that the TCP connections are closed.
The issue I am have is that I require a 1 second delay between the TCP open and the TCP close which significantly slows down the process. Without the 1 second delay the vi successfully connects to the device once then fails to make any TCP connect regardless of the time delay until the PC is reset.
If anyone has any advice I would be very grateful

P.S. I have attached a simplified section of code showing this issue

If I understand you correctly you want the time delay to be 1 second if there's a successful connection....
While I don't have a specific answer for this problem. I want to clarify for him. I believe the issue is, what if all connections ARE there? That means you keep returning a wait of 1 second 50-100 times so It takes 50-100 seconds just to initialize. I think the user is looking for a way to check for valid connections, but do so in such a way that eliminates the need for a wait which is greatly slowing things down.

Hello,
I'm seeing an issue that started this past Monday with no recent change to our environment.
External Outlook Anywhere users and Mobile users, OWA users are unaffected.
Internal Users are affected when using Outlook of any version, 2010 or 2013.
-Internal Users normally log into their workstation with their ad credentials, domain joined machines. Outlook opens without credentials prompting ideally.
1 . Using Cached Mode:
a. Login Prompts, slowness - Since Monday, users are getting prompted to login. The prompt goes away after logging in at startup. It is also causing high CPU
on the workstations.
b. Free/Busy, Out of Office doesn't work. I can, however complete auto-setup for a new user, so autodiscover is not completely down for internal users.
c. Checking Connection Status shows connecting status on highlighted entry below without ever establishing connection (just goes away).
The outlook icon in the system tray says "Outlook is requesting data from the server":
2. Using Non-cached mode
a. No Login Prompt at startup, business as usual
b. Free/Busy, Out of Office works fine. Autodiscover is fine.
c. Checking Connection Status shows normal except, it has "casarray URL, then status is referral" it seams to flicker this constantly then go away intermittently.
d. Main issue in non-cached mode is, sometimes a user will log into windows, open outlook and it will not open and says "server is unavailable. Retry, work offline, or cancel" I can try re-opening, same message.
Only after logging out of windows, logging back in, I can get back into outlook. This is not every time, or consistent with specific users, but random.
3. Lync Pop up for credentials often, though entering the password.
URLs are correct. Autodiscover, EWS, etc.
Already tried bypassing our loadmaster load balancer with host files on clients. same issue regardless of casarray node.
Not sure what is going on.
JoshYou have a hybrid configuration with Office 365, right? You didn't provide this valuable piece of information.
In Exchange Online PowerShell run this command:
Get-OrganizationConfig | FL PublicFoldersEnabled
If the value is "Remote" then users with Exchange Online mailboxes are looking to on-premises public folders. Be sure that you have legacy pubic folder interoperability properly configured.
