AU Instrument Plugin Question

I was just curious on how to add more AU Instrument plugin's into LE8.... I have found free one's online, but just wondering how i can shove them into the software program and use them?

Put your new AU plug-ins in your Library>Audio>Plug-Ins>Components folder and Logic will automatically scan them the next time you launch it.

Instrument Plugins No longer show up in the Channel Strip Area?

I’ve been working with Mainstage 3 quite extensively now.
OS X Version 10.8.5
It’s been incredible and I really love the program.
Just Today, I noticed the instrument plug-ins don’t show up in the
channel strip area. Only the Audio and Mide FX plugins.
I tried the View dropdown menu list options
Where it says “Hide Plugins” with a “V” shortcut only,
But it doesn’t change anything, either way.
I tried re-booting the computer. starting a new concert, new patch with channel strip, etc.
Luckily, everything I programmed still works, but I can no longer edit anything anymore.
So the instrument plugins are still working, but I don’t see them in the Channel Strip area.
Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated!!

In edit mode, try pressing command>6(for future reference, command>5 toggles the screen control inspector).

External instrument plugin - how-to?

Does anyone know how to do the following using the external instrument plugin to control hardware synths?
1. Bank/Program changes?
2. Sysex?
Do I still need a dedicated midi-track for this? This kind of defeats the purpose with this plugin? It would be great if it was possible for the external instrument plugin to handle these tasks!

No External Instrument Plugin in the List

Hi,
I've searching for a while but can't find any info regarding the External Instrument plugin. The manual says it's supposed to be under Instruments > Logic > External but there it's not there. I'm running DTDM + DAE combination. Would that be a problem?
My external synths bounce OK using DAE StereoInput objects but that way I can only apply TDM inserts to it and no native processing.
Any solution to this?

In the manual they do say this:
We strongly recommend that you do not attempt to use more than two audio engines simultaneously within Logic Pro. The strain on the PCI bus will cause too many problems, and will generate a number of DAE error messages.
Your first choice should be DAE in conjunction with DTDM. If necessary, choose DAE and Core Audio.

External Instrument Plugin Needs an update!!

I'd like to see the features of the External Instrument plugin match those of Ableton Live's plugin of the same name.
Ideally, I'd like to route Midi to an individual midi channel of a multi-output software instrument, and receive audio back from one of the same instrument's audio outputs.
This will reduce the need for 2 auxiliary channels: 1 for midi, 1 for audio; and combine everything into one easily automatable channel.
Also, I'd like to see a modern form of routing to sidechain inputs; i.e. directly from a channel's output - again, just like Ableton Live.
+1 if you think this is a good idea.

I would like the External Instrument plugin to receive audio as well as send MIDI.
And it would be good to route the MIDI internally, so as to control Multi-Instruments plugins such as Ultrabeat or Kontakt.
It would also be good if the plugin could receive audio from a Multi-Output instrument, such as the above; and in addition, it could receive audio directly from one of the plugins outputs.
An ideal scenario would be like this:
Load a multiple-stereo-output instance of Kontakt with two instruments; (1) Piano and (2) Organ.
Assign the instruments to MIDI inputs 1 and 2, respectively.
Assign each instrument to stereo outputs 1 and 2, respectively, within Kontakt's interface.
Create a new instrument channel and load an instance of Logic's External Instrument plugin.
From the MIDI output drop-down menu, select 'Kontakt Instrument MIDI 2' (or similar).
NB: All MIDI channels are available; there should be no need to open the library to find MIDI outputs, or to create a new MIDI channel.
There is also an Audio Input drop-down menu: From this select 'Kontakt St Output 2' (or similar).
Now it should be possible to compose MIDI regions on that channel, sending hyper-editor, CC, and note data to inst (2) on the instance of Kontakt, as well as receive audio from the same inst. This will do away with the need for an additional audio channel, and save the arrangement from clutter.

No Audio Coming Out From AU Instrument Plugins In HD Hardware...

I get audio out for TDM Instrument plugins but, no audio out for AU Instrument plugins in Logic Pro 8. I then put a Loop on a Direct TDM track but, no audio. I will try same thing with a TDM track once I find out how to do it.

You need PT 7.4 to run LS8 on TDM hardware. I'm surprised its working at all! Dont ask me when we'll see 7.4 though, at these prices digi should be pi**ed off.... /erik

Plugin instruments setup question

I have a number of plugin instruments that I frequently like to use (Arturia V Collection) but I'm not sure how to go about setting each instrument up in Logic with my external keyboard (Oxygen 25 mk3).
I've just seen a video online where a guy had them all setup in Logic. He was able to flip through each instrument and each one was mapped and configured.
Does anyone know how to achieve this? Unfortunately I can't find the link to the video. V annoying!

It seems you need to be delegated a subdomain and also act as a slave to the main domain.
And the main domain nameservers could slave your subdomain but requests should be forwarded to your DNS when looking up records in your subdomain.

That is more like a host name on the subdomain "mylab.hosted.dept.ucla.edu" but I don't know how this is "really" defined.

Multitimbral Instrument Plugins (ie 1 instument many midi channels)

I am using SampleTank and Kontakt and they way I use them just does not seem right ! The problem starts here..
- when I add Kontakt to a Instrument Strip the Midi channel is assigned in the strip in the environment window.
- If I create multiple tracks with the same Instrument and change the midi channel of a track they all change - Doh... not very logical.
The only work around to this that I have found is to create multiple instrument stips on env window and assign them all to the same instrument (ie instrument 1).... then give each a serperate midi channel - this creates lots of channels with the same audi meters bobbing up and down.
Sure I can use multiple instances of the same plugin (as with EXS24) but that is not very memory or processor effecient...
Now I know I can create Aux Channels and route channels to each - but you get in a "too many channels" mess !
So am I missing something is there an easy & logical way to put an instrument on a channel and route multiple midi tracks to it ?
Did I explain the problem clearly ? Any help/advice/guidance very welcome !

You have to go in the environment page, instruments, and create a new multi instrument, which you will name Kontakt for instance. Activate all channels by ticking each check box in the instrument icon in the environment page. Then open another environment page where you will choose to see the Audio objects, I.E. the mixer in that case. Drag a cable from you newly created multi instrument to the channel strip containing your Kontakt sampler. You get then a message saying that the ports are in use, do you want to change the assignment, and you answer YES. Now in the arrangement page, set midi channel of Kontakt to All. Now you can create Midi tracks for each midi channel. Multiple outputs are either managed inside the sampler itself or using the Multiple Output version of the plugin, depending of which plugin model.

What folder Do I install my instrument plugins into in order for Logic to See Them?

I recently bought Ivory Grand II and I installed it on my Mac, The program shows up perfectly in Garageband but not in Logic Pro X. Do I need to install plug-ins in a specific Folder because I dnt understand why its not showing up.

Me neither. Audio Unit Plugins that show up in one program must show up in any other program that can host them, they all are in the same folder: Library>Audio>Plugins>Components.
The only reason I can imagine it not showing up is that it is a 32 bits plugin, and that your Garageband version still is compatible with 32 bit plugins; Logic Pro X is not. Only 64 bits.
Also, are you trying to loiad it in the right place: an instrument slot on an instrument track?

java.lang.instrument package docs describes how the customer transformer ClassFileTransformer may be introduces using *-javaagent:{jar.file | class.name}* JVM command line arg. Looks rather obvious.
My question is as follows. This is about the JVM startup definitions. IDEs (for instace, IDEA I use) are able to reload recompiled classes during remote dubugging (the debuggee process is started with standard remote debug flags). How do they do it? - I mean how do they introduce their ClassFileTransformer to use it's redefine() during jmv's runtime?

Security: you might not want all classes loaded off e. g. the internet to have full access to your computer.
Runtime code generation: you can make a class loader that rather generates java byte code than reads it from a source; think about optimizing arithmetic expression interpreters that you give an expression as a string like "x^8 + log(x)*sqrt(8+y)".. instead of generating the expression tree and traversing it every time values for x and y change, you could transparently generate a class that has a method that takes the variables as parameters and computes the value of the expression much much faster...

IMovie plugins + question about a transition

I heard that Apple has some free iMovie plugins that you can download but I don't know where they are. Does anybody know where?

The exact place where it happens is at 1:45. I know that the scenes are slowed down and it looks like a cross dissolve, but when I tried it, it didn't work. Anybody know what was done?
Oh, and in case you're wondering, no I haven't been able to contact the guy who made the video, otherwise I would've asked him already.

The free plugins that Apple offered was some time ago. I think most of them have long since been incorporated into iMovie.
As for your other question, it looks like what you're trying to do is not so much a transition as it is the layering of one video image over another.
One way to do this is with QuickTime Pro. For a serious iMovie user, it's a useful tool. Kind of a Swiss Army knife for video.
Use Edit>Add to Selection & Scale to add the second video layer. Then open Window>Show Movie Properties. Select the second video track and click Visual Settings.
Select Blend from the transparency drop down menu and adjust the level of transparency to your liking.
Export the completed effect to DV Stream and then import that to your iMovie project.
I know my directions are a bit brief. Post back if you have questions.

Plugins Question

I have install the Free trial of Genarts Sapphire plugins in my FCP....Now my trial period is over and i dont have the kind of money to be buying them, Is there a way to delete the plist file or something so i can start a new trial period or is that just a dumb question and i should start saving money if i really want them..
If there is anyone who could help me out, because I'm im in the middle of a project and now i cant finish it with out those plugins.

the whole point of a trial period is to allow you to 'real world' test the plugins to see if you want to buy them, not so you can just use them without paying for them.
the developers invest a great deal of time and money building these things ... it may be partly a labour of love but its mostly a business
bottom line: if you want them, buy them
there are plenty of free plugins out there too if you look around ... not as polished, but if thats your budget then thats what you should be looking for

CS5 upgrade from CS4 - plugins question

can anyone refer me to a list of steps to move all of my plugins from CS4 to CS5 as part of the upgrade?
My plugins are:

Image Trends - Fisheye hemi, pearly whites and shine-off
Nik Software - NIk sharpener, color efex, silver efex
onONE - mask pro 4
picture code - noise ninja

PhotoTools Pro 2.6
I don't really want to run both versions of photoshop... I've done that in the past and never once went back to the old once I upgraded... but open to advice there, too.

You can only use those plug-ins in CS5 that have been upgraded by their particular software developer to run in 64 bits.
CS4 and earlier versions of Photoshop were 32-bit Carbon applications. CS5 is Cocoa and runs in Snow Leopard in 64 bits. You will need to get the updated 64-bit versions of your plug-ins from each of their developers.
Otherwise you'll need to run CS5 in 32 bits, with a corresponding loss in performance and any other consequences of running in 32 bits.

Apple AU plugin question + "AUpitch" problems

Are the "Apple" AU plugins a part of the OS or are they stored somewhere on the system?
Are they ever updated?
The Apple AU plugin "AUpitch" inserted on a bus or an Aux object will produce a loud 'pop' before audio passes through it and after the audio ends.
It also appears to report it's latency incorrectly, causing the effect to actually lead the audio on the track which is feeding the aux or bus object.

They are part of OSX and do not appear as plugins in the regular component directory.
They don't seem to be regularly updated. The MatrixVerb for instance can only be used once at a time, futher instances give noise, and it's been like this since 10.3.0
Use Logic's pitch plugin instead...

WSAD 5.1 + CVS plugin question

Sorry I coulnd`t find the right place to post this topic.
I have a question about WSAD, everytime I try to create a branch for a proyect ( Right click proyect -> Team -> Branch), I get the following error:
proyect: cvs [server aborted]: tag 'branch_name' has non-visible graphic characters.
Just in case you need this info: I already Commited the proyect, and its already being shared on my CVS repository. The CVS server is on a Windows 2000 PC.
I would be very grateful if someone can explain from the beginning, how to put a proyect on the repository, so that I can checkout files and start working locally.
