AU Plug-in vs. sub channel

Hello all-
First let me say thanks in advance for anyone kind enough to chime in on my newbie question.
Is there a fundamental difference in the way Logic routes MIDI information between AU instruments and MIDI sub-channels?
Here's what's going on:I am using an MPC3000 and would like to multitrack record MIDI data from a sequence on the MPC into Logic. I setup 3 Midi instruments in Logic from the multi channel sub-channels to record the three separate tracks being played from a three track sequence in the MPC. I have set each track from within the MPC to send over a separate channel (1,2,3 to match sent MIDI). I also have armed the three seperate tracks for recording. Logic insists on summing the data being transmitted from the three separate tracks into the one MIDI instrument track that is selected/active. And it is also routing the MIDI data back to the MPC as it is being recorded causing some kind of MIDI feedback loop.
I have verified that the MPC is sending the data separately over the three channels that I assigned by setting up three AU plug-in instruments on three separate channels(1,2,3) and successfully recording the data onto three separate tracks.
What is the appropriate workflow to record MIDI multitrack data out of a multitimbral hardware sampler/sequencer into Logic?
BTW I am a newbie as I stated above but I have read and re-read both the sections on Multitrack MIDI recording and the Environment chapter out of the reference manual.
Also, besides checking off the boxes for CHANNELIZE and AUTO DEMIX I am starting basically from scratch. Logic created a Multinstrument for the MPC when I used the Set-up assistant on first install.
Thanks again.

OK -
feedback issue is resolved.
Soft thru was ON and needed to be set to OFF.
but I still cannot manage to record MIDI data to seperate multi instrument sub channel tracks.

  • GigaWorks S750 with DDTS-100 Decoder - Center/Sub channel not working.

I have the S750 with the DDTS decoder and everything was working fine until the other day. I have tested several times and from what I can tell there is no signal being sent from the sub to the decoder from the Center/Sub channel wire (S750 sub) to the decoder. Plugging the center speaker wire into the left speaker jack will produce a test signal so I know it is not the speaker. Seems the sub has gone out along with the center channel. I checked the fuse and all is well. Please help...

  • Create sub-group or sub-channel in TDMS file?

    Hello All,
I have been presented with a situation where I am required to log data that is arranged in a multi-level hierarchy.  My preferred method for data logging is the TDMS format, but it is unclear if I can log more than 2 levels of hierarchy with this option.  In the terminology of TDMS file, I would need to create "sub-groups" or "sub-channels" so that all of the data can still be arranged within the same parent group.  Is this type of data arrangement possible with a TDMS file?
    Thanks,
    GSinMN

My understanding is that TDMS files are set at 3 levels of hierarchy: File, Group, Channel.  You could probably name the groups to show a parent group such as "Parent:Group".

  • Exporting FCP Video to Youtube Sub-Channel

I want to export my FCP project to my youtube main channel but it got uploaded to my gmail youtube account instead.
I already uploaded over 20 videos on my main youtube account through Final Cut Pro but this is the first time it happened where it got sent to my Gmail youtube channel.
To get a better illustration, I sent a screenshot link:
    http://i752.photobucket.com/albums/xx166/tobywchu/Screen%20Shot%202015-02-02%20a t%205.00.53%20PM.png
As you can see, I have 143 subs on my main youtube account so you know why I do not want the video to be uploaded  here on my gmail account with no subs or any content at all.
I also tried sending the project to compressor but I keep getting a quicktime error 2045. I also don't know what that is because this is also the first time I got the error. I had no problem compressing all my FCP projects in the past.
I was hoping if anyone can help me with this. Thank you!

I found out that exporting FCP to a different channel under the same gmail account was something you can adjust on youtube, apparently the problem wasn't on FCP to begin with.
However, for the failed compressor export, I haven't found a fix yet mainly because the forums have a different problem: plug-ins. Which I don't have.
The only additional detail I can give is that I deleted all my FCP events and projects back in Jan 1 to start fresh. I just recently added a brand new event folder so I'm not sure if that's the root of the problem. Did FCP reset something to trigger that quicktime error 2045 problem that keeps on occurring?

  • Changing FX plug in settings for channel strip aliases?

I've been trying to migrate my live performance rig from Kore 2 to Mainstage 3, and truth be told it has not been easy, nor yet successful.  Every time I overcome one roadblock to something that was so easy to set in Kore, another problem presents itself.  Thanks to much help from the users in this group, I got a handle on getting through the biggest obstacle of Mainstage ignoring PG changes to channel strips by using Multitimbral settings.
Here's the next huge stumbling block.  In Kore, I was able to set up any instance (roughly the equivalent of a Mainstage channel strip) with a series of insert effects plug ins, i.e. a piano patch with both parametric and graphic EQ, compression, etc. and was able to choose which effect(s) would be in use or defeated for a given performance preset and change the settings of any of the plug ins and be able to save them on a per preset basis.
While the capacity to load several insert FX exists in Mainstage, it appears that any changes to an effect are global across the aliases.  While I understand that only voume, pan and expression can have separate settings on an alias, I'm searching for some kind of workaround to this issue.  All I came up with was using separate busses for each FX chain each having their own settings, but that seems like a horribly inefficient use of resources.  Has anyone else found a solution to this problem?

That is not possible, because an alias is simple the _identical_ channel strip in different patches. Any change will be reflected on all occurences of the alias.

  • Using one plug in for several channels - How to?

Is there a way to use for example one reverb setting for a selected group of tracks or all of the tracks globally? I'd also like to do a fade out for the entire song but am not sure how to do all the tracks at once?

Actually, there are 2 kinds of effects. Ones inserted in the channel I think called "serial", and ones called "Parallel", which normally benefit from being on the Bus. Each is always best used in their intended manner. EQ and Compression also Gating are examples of Insert "serial" effects. They generally NEED to be inserted into the channel because they affect the entire signal, thereby changing the character of the whole signal. Inserting into a channel sends the entire signal through the effect and a purely affected signal comes out after the insert. The compressor controls dynamics, so the whole signal must be affected for this to work. If you compress at the bus, you still have your dynamic peaks coming from the direct signal and you are only compressing the portion of the signal being fed through the bus. Eqing is the same. Say you have a muddy sound and want to clear out some 250hz. Inserting the EQ into the channel will run the signal through the EQ, where you have your cleaner, less muddy sound coming out. If you ran the EQ through the bus, you would probably percieve no audible difference as the frequencies you are cutting, still remain at your original signal. The exception would be if you were to mute the channel outputs and only monitor the bus returns, then that might work, but Compressing multiple signals will not get the best out of the device. Each instrument will benefit from its own kind of settings and in the bus in this scenario, you are either compressing all or nothing. Wah, and Distortion also are far more effective when the whole signal is affected. On the other hand,Parallel processing happens when you "borrow" some of the dry, unaffected signal and send it to an effect, and the bus returns the affected signal, running parallel to your original un affected signal on a complete separate channel. Reverb is the best example of this kind of effect. Delay works very well this way too. You have a sonic advantage to leave the original dry signal unaffected (though perhaps compressed and Eqed), because from the return of the bus, you are "adding" some effect to taste, without altering your original signal. This gives a much bigger sound because for instance, with a single mono vocal track, you now have that single mono track, plus you have the effect filling in on the stereo sides. You can place the mono (or any dry) signal wherever you want in the mix, and with the bus fader, add effects in stereo to taste. It is just delightful.

According to p305 of the Logic manual, "Command dragging plug ins from one insert to another copies them along with all parameter settings" ( in the Audio Configuration window),

  • Migrating from Netscape Messaging Server 4.15 Plug-in to iPlanet Messaging Server 5.1 Channel

    Hi, there.
I wrote a custom plug-in for Netscape Messaging Server 4.15. The client for
whom I did this is now upgrading to iPlanet Messaging Server 5.1 and has
requested that I update the custom plug-in accordingly. Unfortunately, as
specified in the iPlanet migration documents, you have to re-code the
plug-in as a channel to get it to work under iPlanet Messaging Server...
I've scoured the documentation about how to go about doing this, but I don't
know how to get started as I don't know anything about writing a channel.
The plug-in processes incoming messages to see if they were sent from a
specific domain. It then adds an arbitrary signature to each appropriate
MIME part in the message before letting the messaging server relay it.
    1. Can anyone direct me to some explicit directions about how to write a
channel for iPlanet Messaging Server? The documentation for Netscape
Messaging Server was extremely helpful; I haven't found anything equivalent
    for iPlanet channels.
    2. Channels run as daemons? Do you have to start them when the machine
boots, or are they started for you by the MTA as a result of the channel
    configuration file?
    3. Do channels listen with sockets on a particular port for communication?
Do I have to parse incoming data and encode outgoing data as if it was an
    SMTP communication?
    4. Can an SMTP channel co-exist with other SMTP channels on the same
machine? Do the channels have to listen on unique ports? (Sorry, my socket
    programming is a little rusty.)
    Anxiously awaiting your reply...
    Sean Dockery
    [email protected]

What is the expected result of the plug-in?
Also, if you set the smtp log level to debug do you see it initializing the plugin at startup time and also entering the plugin during the smtp-accepts?

  • Duplicating/copying plug-ins OR bus sends from channel to channel?

Is there a key-command that I am unaware that allows me to copy a plug-in from one channel to another? Say for instance I have a few vocal tracks that I want a certain plug-in on. I know I can send it over to a bus track that way, but is there a way I can just copying a plug-in from channel to channel? I know about moving the plug-ins with the command-click and also bypassing them, but can you copy em? Thanks
    ~trevor
Edit: Is there a way to copy Bus sends to each channel rather than going through the pull-down menu and selecting 10 of em?

Am I still missing an essential OS X problem here? I am still semi-new to OS X and don't know a lot of the tricks, but I have a key called alt and option. It's on the same key... wait, I figured it out... I had to click the Command/Open Apple key, then hit the Alt/Option key. Doh.. I am an idiot. Thanks guys!

  • [Megaworks 5.1 THX 550] Request for help with broken sub!

    Help!
Just the other day my Megaworks began producing a loud low level buzz when switched on they had been working fine the previous day, but when I switched them on the next day instantly the made this unbearable low level noise.
After much investigation I discovered that the centre and sub channels seem to be screwed in the sub itself. Trying various cable/soundcard/speaker combinations verified that it is indeed the sub itself at fault, rather than any other component.
The current situation is that any activity on the sub channel will produce an intolerable sound which plays at a volume ignorant of the settings on the volume control. Nothing plays through the centre speaker at all any more. Unplugging the sub/centre channel fixes the problem sometimes, but often it reappears after a short time even with the channel unplugged. Once the sound starts the only way to stop it is to power down the speakers (via the remote or via the power switch) or plug in the headphones. Also using the volume control causes audible 'clicks' to be heard, which were not there previously.
Note that the headphone pass-through on the remote still functions perfectly (volume control at well), but I assume that is on entirely different circuitry.
My best guess is that some electricity spike (when switching on the unit) fried a component, or perhaps the extreme cold we've had here messed it up, but I aint no expert!
    Questions then:
    1. Given it'ss out of warranty, does anyone have any suggestions as to what could be the cause. Or rather what I could do to fix it's (I'm fairly handy with a soldering iron, and happy to get my hands dirty!)
    2. Otherwise what are the chances of a repair shop being able to do anything with it's Are there such things as Creative approved repair shops (in Scotland)? Would it likely cost a packet?
    3. Failing that, is it possible to purchase only a sub as a spare? I don't have the money right now to replace the whole lot with something similarly spec'd but may be able to stretch to a spare.
I know it'ss a bit of me clutching at straws here, but any help/suggestions gratefully received! I so don't want to lose my pride and joy and have to make do with some poor alternative.
(Apologies for the length of the post I wanted to try and cover all bases!)

  • Alum. iMac audio mini plug problem

Hi all. I just bought a 20" Aluminum iMac. I got it all set up and loaded some tunes on and plugged in my sub woofer and satellite speakers. I plugged the mini plug from the speakers into the mini plug input for the headphones on the back of the monitor. One channel works and the other doesn't. I then tried ordinary headphone and have the same problem. I can hear the right channel, but the left is dead. I did discover that if I jiggle the plug a little I can sometimes get the left headphone channel to come it. Also, the regular built in speakers sound ok and both channels seem to work. I think it may be that the input is faulty. Any easy fixes to this, ot should it go to the shop?
Thanks for your input! (....pun intended...)

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It is under warranty, take it to the shop.

  • No Center/Sub from Audigy using Klipsch Promedia 5.1 (analog) - NOT a CMSS/digital output qu

<FONT face=Garamond>I am receiving no center/sub output from my Audigy Platinum card. I have had the card installed on the same system (P4 3.0/ASUS P4800 Mobo/Win XP Pro SP2) for a couple of years with no problems. I recently began experiencing intermittent loss of my center/sub channel. Since I have not changed the connections in quite some time, I was able to rule out an improper output connection. Also, I was able to independently test the speakers themselves and the center and sub are both functioning. Additionally, I switched my Klipsch volume/channel output controller to headphone mode and ran the Creative Speaker diagnostic and I hear four channels (FR/FL/RR/RL) in the headphones (as I do with my front and rear speakers) but I <EM>do not</EM> receive any signal for the center channel (i.e., no "center channel" speech signal). Based on all of the above, I am certain that the speakers are functioning correctly (I am of course using them in analogue mode), there is no "switch" on the rear of the subwoofer for 2/2., all of my Creative and windows software are configured for 5. audio. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all of the creative drivers and software (using Driver Cleaner Pro in Windows Safe Mode) and reinstalled from my original Audigy CD and then performed a complete Auto Update from the Soundblaster.com site. <Still no center/sub even in diagnostic test!!!!
    <FONT face=Garamond color=#ff0000 size=4>
I want to be clear: I am not confused about CMSS 5. gaming/audio issues; I believe this is purely a soundcard output issue. Despite all the grousing I read about the Creative driver series, I have been most happy with the Audigy Plat card. It has performed extremely well with the Klipsch 5. in gaming, DVD, and audio contexts for several years through numerous driver updates. I know how to configure the settings to get true 5. in any context. However, now I am completely stumped. Is there anything I have overlooked or might try so I do not have to conclude that this great card has just "crapped out" and now needs to be replaced?
    Thanks for listening.

<SPAN>Thank you! I had my digital coax connected there with an adapter, but since that can only carry ac-3 and stereo signals im better of using direct 5 chan ( i don?t watch movies on my PC... that?s what the home theater is for) Most games use EAX or some other direct sound, so ill stick with 5. direct analog. who would have thought the digital jack was also for center/sub heh.

  • Problem Receiving Digital and Analog Channels- 22LV610U

I have a LCD/DVD combo TV model 22LV610U and had satellite tv for over a year and the tv worked great! After shutting off the satellite, I wanted to only receive the local channels via antenna. I bought a new RadioShack Indoor TV antenna ( to receive basic UHF, VHF and FM radio signals to HDTV and FM HD Radio signals)...
After setting it up, I still only saw snow...I tried setting up the channels through the menu, and was not picking up any signals. I was also unable to view the "DTV Settings" options for Digital Signal...
Do I need a different kind of antenna? I called Toshiba customer service and was told the HDTV antenna would not be compatible, however, ALL channels are now digital and must be received through this kind of antenna...
Help, Im in a pickle Thanks!

If you are using a STB, then you should connect it with an HDMI cable or component cable as you did.
However, you do not need to autoprogram your TV if you are using an HDMI or component or composite or any other indirect connection. That is because the STB is acting as the tuner; it will automatically receive channel information as part of its on-screen graphics. All the HDMI connection is doing is delivering that video feed to your TV.
Therefore, what you need to do is press the "input" button on your TV remote and select HDMI, or component, whatever you are using. Then you control the channels using your STB remote, not your TV remote, which changes the channels on your STB, not your TV. Again, your TV is only receiving the video from your STB, it's not directly changing the channel itself. It's like having a VCR and turning your TV to channel 3 in the old days; you just need to pick up the video.
The reason why, when you tried hooking the TV up directly to the wall with coax is because most FiOS programming is encrypted digital. That is why the STB is needed to "unscramble" the channels and output them to your TV along with all of its on-screen graphics and program guide. Therefore, if you connect coax directly to the TV, the only channels you will receive are local channels (i.e. CBS, NBC, PBS), the ones that Verizon cannot by law encrypt. The reason why some of those channels are "16-2" or "17-214" is because digital broadcasting, as opposed to analog (think the digital transition last summer) uses "sub-channels," which are the -XXX. Verizon can assign whatever number they want to their encrypted programming (i.e. ESPN HD can be 214-1445) because the STB will read that channel and display it within it's own system as Ch. 570.

  • 40SL500U - Tuning one QAM channel jumps to another QAM channel

My cable company is Armstrong Utilities.  I have 3 TVs, none with a set top box.
    I used to get these HDTV 720p channels on all 3 TVs:  128-1, 128-3, 128-5, 128-6
Recently channel 128-5 moved to 68-5.  I can no longer tune any 128 sub channel.  Tuning any 128 channel jumps to 68-5.
When I go into setup and manually tune 128 it shows one channel:  68.5.  68.5 in now ratio 4:3 and 480i resolution.
    On my other two TVs I can tune 128-1, 128-3, 128-6 and they are 720p and 16:9.  68-5 is 4:3 and 480i.
When I display the info on my ViewSonic TV it shows:  "68-5 E1_5 WQ".  The station is WQED and I think that's where the "WQ" comes from.
Attached is a scan done on my PC TV tuner.
So, I can not tune any subchannel on channel 128.

More information in the attached photo of the Manual Tuning screen.  In the upper right corner in the green you can see that I entered channel 128 and then pressed OK to scan.  The only channel found is 68.  My other 2 TV tuners find 4 subchannels on 128.

  • Lost my sub on a SBS 2.1 350

Title pretty much says it all. I have an Abit KV8 pro motherboard. My sub was working for about 2-3 days, and it has since stopped working all together. It's very frustrating. Any advice would be a huge help.
It does produce MINOR output when I unplug the 2 main speakers, plug in just the sub and CRANK the volume; however, it is barely noticable even at full volume.
    Thanks guys!
EDIT: I read some other suggestions in ohter threads. I plugged in my sub into the output jack from my stereo, and it worked perfectly. This seems to be motherboard/computer based, but any advice would still be greatly needed. I think it may be an issue with front audio mounts on my case (a tsunami GE-46), but I'm not sure.

Since testing the speaker on another source works fine, the speaker system should be in working condition. Perhaps you can try the speaker on another computer and see if you still get the same result.
