Audacity - how to use songs from iTunes?

Hello,
I'm trying to create some song clips to use in a music quiz - using songs from my iTunes library. I've downloaded Audacity and the MP3 encoder but am completely stuck - not sure that the encoder is even installed yet as I can't click on anything when I try and 'find' it.
I can't get most of my songs to play in Audacity - I think they're in an unsuitable format - .mp4? But how do I convert existing songs in iTunes into a format that I can edit in Audacity? AND then, do I burn them onto a CD in a particular format so that they will play on a PC (for the quiz)?
Any help would be great - many thanks.

The guide to installing the Lame encoder is here
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq?s=install&item=lame-mp3
I just saved mine to my Audacity folder in Applications then pointed Audacity in the right direction 1st time I used it.
Right click on a track in iTunes and select "convert to mp3" does the trick.
PCs read MP3's so all should be well. If not, save the tracks as WAVs (audio files).

  • How to download songs from ITunes Japan and France?

How to download songs from ITunes Japan and France with a credit card and address based in the US? The system appears to not allow downloads in that fashion. Please let me know if you have any details

This question is asked literally dozens of time a week in these forums, & I will answer, again. In order to purchase from any specific country's store, you will have to meet one of the following criteria:
    1) Have a credit card from that country with a billing address in that country.
    2) You may use an iTunes gift card purchased in that country, but the billing address rule still applies.
This rules are mandated by the record companies not Apple. The record companies do not care for cross-border sales.
As a new poster, just a suggestion, it might save you a little time if you use the "search" function in the upper right corner to see if your question has been asked previously. That way you don't have to wait on someone to come along to help you.

The simplest way to send one song from iTunes via email is to drag the song from iTunes onto the desktop, open Mail (or your internet email program), and then upload/Attach the song from the desktop.

  • How to get songs from itunes to ipod shuffle

I just seem to be having problems finding anything I download in itunes on my ipod shuffle. I am not techo savy at all!

If your shuffle is 3rd or 4th (current) gen, here's how to use the automatic syncing approach, which is often more convenient than the manual method.  You probably need to set up (or update) the shuffle's Music tab in iTunes.
Select the shuffle in iTunes.  There is a row of "tabs" (starting with Summary).  Click on Music there.  This is the Music tab, where you tell iTunes how to sync your shuffle.
Check the box for Sync Music.  If your entire iTunes music library fits on the shuffle, you can choose to sync Entire music library (and skip to next paragraph).  Otherwise, choose to sync Selected playlists, artists, albums, and genres.  Below that, create a selection of songs to sync to the shuffle.  For example, if you want to keep it simple, you can create a new regular playlist in iTunes (call it "iPod Songs").  Put all songs you want on the shuffle on that playlist (including those recent downloads).  On the Music tab, find and checkmark that one playlist under Playlists.
When you click Apply, the selection of songs on the Music tab syncs to the shuffle, replacing its existing content.  Going forward, any changes to your iTunes music library, related to the Music tab settings, sync automatically the next time you connect the shuffle, or when you click the Sync button.  So, if you have a playlist with your "iPod songs," just update that playlist (add and remove songs) whenever you want; iTunes syncs the same changes to the shuffle at the next opportunity.

  • Need help, how to transfer songs from iTune library to ipod??

Hi everyone, I just got my iPod this weekend for my birthday. My friend told me to go to "Lime Wire" to get free songs, so I did and the songs went to my iTunes page.
However, for some reason when I tried to download all the songs to my iPod, only one song popped on my iPod. (Weird)
Anyway, how do you get the songs from the iTunes library
to download to the iPod. What am I doing wrong?!
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the discussions,
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there to do what you want, but not supported by Apple, see this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

  • How to save songs from iTunes on a Mac to a usb?

Would like to know how you can save songs or albums onto a usb stick from iTunes. Click and drag doesn't work and I can't copy and paste either. Please help someone.

1st, are we talking about songs that you own?  Or are you talking about songs in the iTunes Store?
If these are song that you own, you should be able to drag and drop them from iTunes to a Folder and a copy of the song should be made.  When you drag them
You can also "Control-Click" on a song and select "Show in Finder" and that will take you to the Folder where iTunes has stored the song.
Show in Finder should take you to the Folder with all the songs for that album.  You can navigate from there to other Folders of your other music, or go back to iTunes and Control-Click on another song, selecting Show in Finder.

  • Would like to use song from Itunes as background music for blog, How do I?

Would like to use a song I have in my Itunes library as background music in my blog. Does anyone know how? New to computing and not great on the lingo just yet. Thanks

I'll give you my recipe to attain your goal. Then, please, tell me if it worked.
First of all, you need some MB of disc space on the web, and almost all of the e-mail providers (such hotmail.com, msn.com aol.com andso.on) can give you this chance.
Second step, you have to download, install on your computer and set with your web space information, an ftp browser such as SoftX FTP Client ( http://www.softx.org/ftp-download.html ) or Terrapin FTP Browser ( http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/downloads/index.cfm?categoryID=1470&itemID=6574 ).
Third step, you have to reduce the mp3 bitrate of your song whether it's more than 128 kbps, to make sure it won't be too heavy to load when someone visit your blog. To do this, you must open the Preference panel of iTunes (in Windows version of it usually in tools menu), click on advanced, click on import and then choose import using mp3 encoding and set the bitrate to 128 kbps (less is better) and confirm. Now select your song, right click on it and click on convert selection to mp3. When the operation will end, you'll have two files of the same song. Right click on the new one and click on "show file". An Explorer window will open with the right file already selected. Just drag and drop it on the FTP browser (is better if you correct the name of the song and put out spaces between the words before the uploading - i.e.: "Storm in a tea cup.mp3" will become storminateacup.mp3 or storm.mp3, far better) and it will be uploaded to your web space. Obviously, if your file is already at a low bitrate (lower than 128), you must jump the "Preference panel setting" step and the "convert to mp3" step.
    Final step: your blog
this is the standard html syntax, accepted by almost all of the blog providers:
    '<embed src="http://YOURWEBADDRESS/NAMEOFTHESONG.mp3" autostart=false loop=false volume='85' width=425 height=40>'
Be careful: you have to write correctly your web address and the name of the song, because the html language is case sensitive.
put autostart=true if you'd like to hear the song as you open the blog and loop=true if you like to hear your song again and again. You can also set the volume as you like (0-100 is the range) and put to 0 both width and height if you like to make the song bar invisible.
You can put the code either in a post or in the blog page, as it will be the soundtrack for the blog or just for a single post.
    Enjoy it

  • How to authorize songs from ITunes account that no longer exists

I have 26 songs in my iTunes library that I cannot play on my iMac and cannot synch with my 2nd gen Nano because they are not authorized for this computer. These files were purchased under an account that no longer exists, on a Windows computer I no longer own. I've long ago forgotten the password for that account and the e-mail account associated with that itunes account no longer exists.
So, how do I authorize my current iMac (running OS X, iTunes 10) to play and synch these songs?
    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Hello coastiechris,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions!
About your only option at this point is to contact iTunes support on this one. If you cannot remember the password, there are no other options. Sorry.

  • Import songs from iTunes into  Windows Movie Maker

I have found it difficult to use my songs in any other application. I'm creating videos using Windows Movie Maker (Vista) and when I go to import the songs aren't showing up in the iTunes Music folder. I also downloaded the files into an external drive. When I opened the external drive separate the songs were there. When I was in Windows Movie Maker and went to import the files weren't there. Any suggestions on how to use songs from iTunes. I feel as though I've purchased them and can't use them anywhere else other than on my iPod and computer.

If they are protected files, that's correct. You can only use them on iPods, authorized computers and Apple TVs.
