Audi A4 bluetooth phone system - Nokia N97

Hi I was wondering if any on could help with this, my Audi A4 has a built in bluetooth telephone module where you can connect to your phone and use it through the steering wheel controls and view your phonebook, calls made, received and missed on the cars screen, this worked perfectly with my old Nokia 6230i but with the N97 i've just got absolutely nothing. It connects with the car ok but i can't view my phonebook or any calls etc.
I can make calls but this is very difficult while driving as i have to put every number in seperately and press ok each time ( if you know the number) Please help!

Hi, I've already posted on someone elses problem and mentioned I work in the motor trade and that all bt systems don't work with all handsets. Just one tip, most car factory fit bt systems have a voice activated system, which though a pain to set up' are much easier and safer to use when driving than your phone book. With both VAG and Ford, you can preset up to ten numbers to activate by voice. So after set up (read your manual, or go to a dealership and ask) you can say 'dial name', car says 'name please' you say mum. home, work, Fred Smith etc and car will phone them. This is a function of the car Bluetooth phone system not your phone and once you've set up the names it will work with any connected phone. It's not like voice dialing on your handset.
Hope this is of some help.
Good Luck

  • How to prioritise connection of CAR Bluetooth PHONE system/ device over SmartBand Talk SWR30

After pondering about this device for over a month I asked my wife to gift it me for Christmas. For 3 days I really liked it, but then a critical flaw became apparent  Having not driven for a few days due to the holidays I set off in my car, only to realise that I was not receiving telephone calls, SMS and other notifications on my built-in car bluetooth system (Ford Sync by Sony/ Microsoft), only on the Smartband Talk. Doing some research it became clear that if my SWR30 was already connected with my Xperia (Z2) my Ford Sync could not connect! I realise the limitations of Bluetooth (i.e. you cannot have simultaneous connections using a same Bluetooth profile) and the workaround is to manually turn off the Phone Audio (handsfree) Bluetooth profile for SWR30 in the Z2. Remembering to turn off/ back on is proving to be irritating and too much effort. I thought I might be able to create an Event (macro) in Sony's Smart Connect app to do this automatically, but this cannot be done as the app is rather limiting! It is more important for my car system to work with my Z2 as I use it frequently and is altogether a safer and more legal way of answering calls etc. Has any one got ideas or suggestions? I really like this SmartBand (its far sleeker & lighter than true smartwatches) and I actually want the talk feature, but if I cannot resolve the car bluetooth problem (and this will probably affect all other Bluetooth car systems/ devices) easily and smoothly, regretfully, the SWR30 will be going back to the seller

As stated before, I really like the SmartBand Talk and was very disappointed to learn that it could not coexist with a car Bluetooth system! Having had a few days off between Christmas and New Year I was determined to resolve this "flaw" and am glad to report that I have and in a slick way! Prompted by "ensaro's" widget suggestion, unfortunately I did not want a toggle which had to be manually executed, it had to be automatic. So I thoroughly researched the Google Play Store, trying out many, and ended up with 2 apps which were real contenders: Trigger (by Egomotion) and Automagic (by Gridvision). Both apps basically allow you to create a trigger (eg Bluetooth Car Audio wants to connect to phone) followed by an action (eg switch off Bluetooth phone connection to SmartBand, followed by switch on connection to Bluetooth Car Audio). Trigger calls this automation task a Trigger, Automagic calls it a Flow.Trigger is fairly intuitive visually, but unfortunately support for this supposedly highly rated app seems no longer to exist! This became very frustrating for me as at times it would not run (however, it also allows a widget to be created to manually run the task manually)... therefore I dug in to the more heavyweight Automagic! Automagic uses a dynamic flowchart, where you add a trigger, an optional condition (true/ false) and finally action(s). The style reminded me of my programing days many years ago and the logical nature excited me. The possibilities are huge and may scare off some users looking for a quick result, but in fact it is really quite easy to use, especially once you undertstand some of the slightly "obscure" terminology used (after all this a German programer at work and some translation suggestions may be required). At the end of the day I created 2 flows, one to connect to the car system (via disconnection of SmartBand and then connection to my car) and one to reconnect to the SmartBand when not in car (the trigger being that the car Bluetooth is no longer connected/ disconnected). These flows are passive and apparently use very little battery power, executing when a trigger condition is matched and so far is working well. If anyone wants to see how my flows are constructed, I will be happy to email them. You open them up directly in Automagic (going to their site allows you to download a 9 day trial with up to 3 flows working)... my flows are embellished with extra actions, such as switching off WiFi and playing a sound when a connection has taken place... and most important of all there is a forum with lots of help and examples and I was really happy when the progaming author, Martin, actually replied to a query... Problem... sorted! Automagic is well worth £2.40   ...

  • NOKIA N97 SYSTEM ERROR AND MENU NOT OPENING

I have a N97 which is a far cry from the N900. Anyhow, of recent when I try to access the menu a message pops up saying "System error" - so, I cannot access any of the other functions through Menu and, quite honestly, I don't know how else to access the menu. Any ideas or suggestions to resolve this would be appreciated!

Apart from loss of data I would probably suggest carrying out a "hard reset" upon this device, which is chronically short of phone memory:http://mynokiablog.com/2009/07/18/how-to-hard-reset-your-nokia-n97/

  • I have a Nokia N97. I'm looking for a smartphone that is Blue tick approved for reception in rural Australia, which means only Telstra Next G. I would appreciate hearing about any smart phone with gd rural reception, and esp new versions of Android

There are reports of some 3G, or NextG ph's without a blue tick, with as good a reception as the blue ticks. This may include iphone, HTC Desire, and a new to Telstra shop Motorola Defy, that has a blue tick. Telstra staff are not able to give any information re upcoming models of smart phone + good rural reception

I was just having a look back at this post on the Q + A Session and had two thoughts:
    - Did Nokia ever address the questions that they deferred by saying they will get back to them later?
    - On Q9 the answer from the engineers that it was not an easy task to get Virtual RAM is a cop-out.
They admitted that the c: drive has memory paging and that this make apps run faster and smoother. That implies that apps installed on the mass memory won't run as fast or smoothly. I suspect that a lot of problems with apps are caused by being installed on the mass memory.
So where does that leave N97 owners, Nokia are very unlikely (like a snowballs chance in...) to recall N97s to have more memory fitted, so it goes without saying that Nokia should work on Virtual RAM from the Mass Memory as long as this can be accessed as fast as the c: drive (I don't know if this is even technically possible).
The decision to put such a small c: drive on the N97 was a terrible one, especially when you consider the position of this flagship device in relation to Nokia's move towards service with the Ovi Store and the additional overhead of the homescreen with widgets. Nokia all but acknowledged this by increasing the c: drive in the N97 mini. All I can hope is that Nokia have learnt from the bad publicity that this penny pinching exercise has caused and that whoever made the decision has either lost their job or been demoted to the most junior position in the company.

  • Nokia N97, Phone from hell (CHINA), built for the ...

Well the subject spells it out, No need to address all the issues. My biggest dissappointment besides a $600 phone not functioning after only 5 weeks of use is; I paid premium price for a premium mobile phone. For the price of a N97 I could have bought a good notebook and a simple mobiel phone. The biggest issue was that is said "MADE IN CHINA". Does it matter where it was made vs who made it? Absolutely, does matter. When you pay top dollar for a complex device would you rather see it made in china, Korea or Finland? How many of you folks would buy the same item and choose to take one that is made in china? If they had told me that I would be recieving a chinese made original Nokia N97, I defintely would not have completed the purchase. I know I am not alone on this one.

no i does not matter where your nokia was made as long as it is genuine. my nokia was made in china as well for the US market. the quality and components are the same for all production plant of nokia irregardless of where it is made.
You know what I love about you the most, the fact that you are not me ! In love with technology and all that it can offer. Join me in discovery....

  • NOKIA N97 and BH-507

Grazie.
I recently bought the Nokia BH-607. I am very disappointed. The headset is not compatible with the Nokia BH-607. The first connection all ok, it is recognized by the ACA. Then, once off the phone or stop the Bluetooth connection, or spend an hour or so, the software no longer recognizes the ACA aulicorare and to do that review, we must carry out the 'Hard Reset your phone. I asked for help to technical support online and, without wasting time, they told me to go to a Nokia Point. I do not have the possibility of losing days of work for a stupid software problem. If someone has had the same problem and managed to solve it, let me know. Thank you.

Both these links state that it is compatible...

  • Crime of buying a Nokia N97

I see that I'm not all alone who has issues with N97. This is the worst phone ever and guess what I have a Nokia 6630 from the time it was launched and it works better then N97.... My phone was with their repair team for almost a month as firmware issue, camera flash was constantly on despite switching the phone off (on connecting the battery it would start), the camera quality was soo bad and its settings never responded; you login to facebook and cannot logout, the phone gets hangs in between, the swipe doesnt work sometimes when you try to answer the call, while loading applications or widgets the screen goes black... I have set the main internet connection point to be my WLAN but sometimes it automatically switches to "Data Package" by the service provider which I have not made as an access point and clearly defined WLAN (lost all my credit due to this).... once back in the WLAN area the phone does not search and connect to it by default and the other net applications like news, weather, etc does not connect unless I reset the phone.
Its been two months since I bought this phone with one month being with Nokia for repair work (infact they swapped the whole phone) but did not replace it... Yeah finally can someone tell me how to delete the email headers from the mailbox... it never deletes and hoped this would have been resolved by the new firmware as per Nokia service people...
I have had HTC phones - my god what a phone it was and never had to these issues esp with WLAN as it used to automatically scan and update information..
Exhausted and mentally tortured by Nokia N97 and time taken to repair the phone but still no difference.... should have gone for HTC Pro2
P.S - Nokia please recall this stupid **bleep** machine of yours and replace it with a new one or refund customers back their money...

"Many users of the N97 have been reporting various system based errors and bugs that have been plaguing the device since its release date. There are even entire forums dedicated to the bugs and problems of N97 users –a testament to how unstable the system is. The big blow came as both mobile carrier Vodafone UK and distributer Electronista have stopped offering the device to customers. Electronista now redirects buyers to the more stable N97 Mini and Vodafone no longer lists the device."

  • Renault Laguna Bluetooth Navigation System

Does anyone have any experience of the following:-
I've a new Renault Laguna with the Bluetooth Navigation System. The phone
(Nokia 6630i)connects OK but the quality is absolute **bleep**. It varies from
    distorted to completly unintelligible.
I took it to the local dealer who tried 5 different phones, including another 6310i and other makes, on different
networks all were just as bad. They then tried all the phones on two new yet
to be delivered vehicles, all identical, absolute **bleep** quality. The dealer
emailed support in France who claimed they had not encountered any problems!
Strangely enough another customer (who I was unable to speak to) was trying
to get the cable fitted (presumably had given up on the Bluetooth), I left
with the dealer seemingly unable even to get the correct cable / hands free
    kit.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Charles

I would install a new car kit, you can still connect to the car speakers and mute the radio, whatever you do with Renault system you will never be satisfied, the microphones are rubbish nobody can hear you when on motorways. Bin it.

  • Navigation on Nokia N97

    Hi all,
I have been doing a trial and error on the maps in Nokia N97 phone and would now like to share and seek your advise to finalise one. I tried the following for usage mainly in India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and China:
    1. Nokia Maps: Very nice user interface, quick to load and always feel good to use the Nokia stuff in a Nokia Phone. But unfortunately it has problems. It does not have very detailed maps of Asia (see Google or a local service provider for difference and strange considering India and China are moving/has potential markets to move the cellphone economy now a days). Secondly, the traditional problem of connecting with GPS satelites (minimum 3/4 minutes and sometimes longer) is always there.
    2. Google Maps 3: Very good, easy to load and free. But not voice guidance and navigation system is very poor, no automatic re-routing etc. Google surely would capture this space in a year or two but I need to use the map now.
    3. Sygic: Procured recently. It comes with pre-installed maps, without other hidden costs or data plans, with no additional subscription fee for maps or data transfers. By far the preferred option because unlike Nokia it has got into collaborations with various local companies so that map becomes as accurate as possible. But, it has problems too. Almost 1.5 GB in your mass memory and produce a big cache. The N97 hangs quite frequently after loading this software. The updates are less frequent. Somehow looks bit out of sync with N97 with limited touch functionality.
    4. Garmin: Its quite ok and have a tie up with some local companies as well. The Maps are detailed and updated regularly. But in landscape mode it looks buggy.
    5. Tom Tom: Not designed for N97 and you need to use the key board.
Thanks for your suggestions. I am sure I have missed out quite a few and look forward to your inputs.

  • E52 Disconnecting from bluetooth IQ system in Hold...

Hello, Has anyone had this problem of an E52 phone disconnecting from the IQ system in a Holden Commodore SV6 via Bluetooth after each phone call?.  The phone has to be re paired to the system after each phone call made or received.  I am using the latest firmware 054.003.

I have been pulling my hair out with the same issues, my 6720 would unpair after every call, and they could not tell me why, I got a C5 and it done the same. I am currently using my daughters old 6120 and it only sort of works - I can use the speaker but not use the IQ panel, at least it pairs up etc.
What is most disappointing is that Holden tell me it is a Nokia issue and Nokia tell me it is a Holden issue and Telstra just don't care. If you go to the Holden website none of the listed IQ compatible phones from Nokia are still in manufacture. I have been waiting for Holden since July to update their web site, I actually rang them today and got the same answer as I did in July.
It is is disappointing that Australia's largest car manufacturer is not closely working with Nokia to keep this information up to date. I did notice the only current phone on the Holden site is the iPhone4 - it is like they are trying to push people that way!

What's Worth Doing, Is Worth Doing Well!
    All "N-series" are incredible!

I was a HUGE WINMO FAN. i would not even considwer a phone to be a smartphone unless it had winmo.
But then I tried the nokia N95 last year and realised that s860 was a pretty nice OS also. Did not have aS MANY BELLS AND WHISTLES as winmo, but worked really well. Very intuitive and with a few tweaks had almost everything winmo had except for a truly dynamic desktop.
Then I bought an iphone3g and it was really intuitive and handled ms exchange even better than microsofy does,tHE SCREEN WAS GREAT, and the most responsive of any touch screen I have used, but it had a few too many limitation for me. cut and paste, no mms messages and a **bleep** camera.
So I decided to go back to winmo. Bought a HTC touch cruise and then an HTC touch diamond. I realised afer the journey through these phones, winmo offered the most flexibility of any OS. Mpre tweaKS AND APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE TO WINMO THAN ANY OTHER os. hgowever THE INTERFACE was a pia even when disguised by touch flo, panels, etc.
Winmo needs a complete makeover amnd I hope they get it, but until they do I am a symbian fan and the N97 looks like it will be great.
Symbian has turned out to be the best compromise for me. I hAVE had n95-1 n95-4 N-96 AND NOW HAVE N85. These phones have all been super and if I wasnt a gadget nut would be happt with any one of them, but I am always looking for the next hreat thing. Right now it is the n85
