Audibe-shuffle problems just don't quit
I am using an iPod shuffle, Mac OSX 10.4.3, both Apple's shuffle updates,and the latest iTunes.
I listen to Audible books for at least 2.5 hours daily. I have been waiting for my listening experience to impro ve but it is getting worse. Each night i bookmark and update. Each morning the device reverts to the beginnug or to te first bookmark andf fsils to find any bookmarks past that.
Now instrad of lookig foreward to my daily read qith pleasure it is with dread, knowing it is just going to be aother problem for me i a few hours.

Simple problem, just don't know where to find answer
hi, i'm sure the problem i have must be very basic, but i just can't seem to find the answer so far and i do not have much time left. i just need to know the code required to add a .avi file compressed using divx codec to a japplet. basically it will be activated using a JButton and will play one time each time the button is clicked. i know how to make the gui and the button, but it is the embedding of the avi file that i need help with. could you guys kindly assist me, my assignment is due in like 8 hrs. thanks a million.

Some of the pictures I am trying to use in Idvd don't quite fit into the specified frame... Is there a way to just move the picture itself within the frame to use the best part of the pic... For example I'm trying to use a picture of my son..but his head gets cut off when I drag the picture into the place holder....
When trying to troubleshoot my problem I discovered a forum that was saying certain NTFS drives work just fine
Apple support says that an NTFS or exFAT drive cannot be used when connected to the AirPort Extreme.
I suppose it is possible that someone might have been using some type of special software on the drive that might perform a "conversion", but without more details, it is hard to know.
Note: ExFAT and NTFS formats aren't supported.

I've had MS Office:mac 2011 on my imac for around 18 months now. Outlook has just disappeared and when I find the file and open it it tells me that there is a problem and I may need to re-install it. I've just done this using the installation disc which, then said the installation had been successful.
Outlook is still not working. Can anyone please advise me on what to do next.Remove MS Office 2011 completely (here are instructions) and reinstall it.
It's not a simple or fast process but it is important to follow all of the steps in order to get all the files that Office scatters around. This will not affect your data files, only MS Office and its preferences. -
I'm having trouble with my new iPhone.it seems it likes to turn it self off for no reason at all.i would like to know is this a hardware or software problem or just a iPhone problem i don't know.
basic troubleshooting steps from the User Guide are restart, reset, restore from backup, restore as new.

Cancelled school order due to shuffle problems
well it finally happened and i cant say i blame the governors of the school i work for: i have been working for a very long time to bring mac computers into the school i work at in hong kong but the obvious fiasco with the shuffle has destroyed all my hard work! My school was in the process of considering placing an order for around 350-400 shuffles for senior students and staff. The idea was to standardise file and info transfers across the pc and slowly burgeoning mac network BUT now that has all changed!!! They have been monitoring Apple's absolute failure to address the green and orange blinking light issue and so the whole order has been shelved! For the last two years I have struggled to get a small suite of emacs and some powerbooks into the school but that now looks as though it will be the end of the experiment with macs and os x. Okay, accuse them of being shortsighted if you want, but why would they want to invest around 300,000-400,000 HK$ in a product which now looks to have serious problems! And, sad to say, I can now sympathise with them: my first shuffle, bought just over a year ago, has also gone the way of the blinking light despite all of my efforts to do everything the other forum contributors have tried in order to get it to work...and the one i bought only three weeks ago as a replacement has just done exactly the same!!!
Thank god their intel macs don't appear to be suffering from the same poor manufacturing problems!
Basically I am so so disappointed, not just in the fact that I, personally, now have to badger Apple HK to replace my latest crappy-quality shuffle, but because the failure of Apple to monitor this forum and address the problems encountered by a huge number of its very obvious afficianados, has completely undermined all my attempts to get their presence and their once excellent products into my school...Now that's the sort of halo-effect Apple should have tried to avoid!!!Youre quite right, I didn't ask a specific queston...but the whole point of my post was to show a consequence of Apple's failure to answer the very very obvious question on this forum i.e. why are all these shufles failing?
So, I'll say it simply: why are so many people's shuffles 'dying', and why has Apple not addressed this issue? -
Iphone 5 - I am trying to delete message threads and once I do, I go to text someone else and it won't send. HELP? I just don't want those messages on my phone anymore. I have tried to restart my phone but when I do, the "deleted" threads show back up on my phone. I use iOS 7.1.

It sounds like you're deleted message threads keep coming back after you restart the devie. I recommend starting by quitting all the running apps on your phone:
iOS: Force an app to close
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
If the issue persists, backup your device to iTunes and then restore it as a new device and verify that it works.
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If it does, then restore your backup to either verify it still works and the software just needed reinstalled, or isolate the issue to the backup file itself.

If Safari crashes on launch and you don't have another web browser, you should be able to launch Safari by starting up in safe mode.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those.
After removing the malware, remember to reset your home page in all the web browsers affected, if it was changed.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)

My iphone dosen't doesn't make key tone sounds anymore when I write a text message or when I want to dial a phone number I don't know how to fix this problem, I don't hear the clicking noise anymore does anyone know how to fix this problem?And all the sounds on my phone are on, even the keyboard clicks.
Try restarting your iPhone by holding down the on/off and the home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, double check the volume button just in case. If you still can't hear the tones go into your settings>sounds and make sure the options are on.

I have a lot of HD video on my hard drive that I eventually want to edit in iMovie, but just don't have the time now. It is clogging up the computer, though. How do I take the Hd clips off Mac for later editing?

Most commonly used backup methods
Th problem with HD video is it needs a fast external interface, so you should pick a external drive that uses the fastest interface your computer has to offer.
Performance rank fastest to slowest is
Thunderbolt, USB3, (newer Mac's)
Firewire 800, USB 2, Firewire 400, USB 1 (older Mac's)
Newer Windows PC's have USB3, older one's USB 2,1.
You need to format the drive if it comes FAT which a lot do, as FAT has a 4GB file size limit, so this won't work with large HD video files.
So if your going to use the drive only with a Mac, then head to Utlities > Disk Utility and format it Options: GUID Format: OS X Extended Journaled. (select the drive makers name and click Partition tab)
If your going to use the external drive with a PC, take it to the oldest PC you have and right click and format exFAT.
If you have a Windows XP machine and there is no exFAT, it can be downloaded for free from Microsoft.

You don't need a new iTunes account (and really shouldn't create one) simply because you purchased a new shuffle.
Continue to use the iTunes account you had.

Problems with the fscommand("quit")
Hi,
I am experiencing Problems with the fscommand("quit"). I have tried adding the code to the button and to the timeline. Both works perfectly with the SWF and if published with CS4. However I am using a program called 'Flash EXE Builder' and this is where the problem comes in, all other button functions works perfectly just the quit.
The reason I am using 'Flash EXE Builder' is that it protects the exe file and puts a time limmit to it making it a shareware.
Is there another command I could try?

My Shuffle is totally messed up. I turn it on and the little orange/green light flashes. I plug it into my computer and iTunes pops up. My Ipod shows up in the menu bar thing and when I click it it shows my playlist. The problem is that there is nothing there. The music that I loaded onto it a while ago is still taking up space but, it is not showing up and wont play. I have already trying reseting my Ipod and restoring it. Anyone know how to fix it?
That ruled out the obvious, anyway.
Are you able to add songs back onto the shuffle? I don't know what's happened, but I'd try replacing the songs if you can. Otherwise, I'd probably try toggling Disk Use on and giving a large amount of space over to files, then putting it back. And if that doesn't work (and I don't really know why it would, unless your shuffle has somehow gotten dedicated to files instead of music) all I'd know to do would be to go through the uninstall/reinstall route.

Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
