Audible audiobooks on iPod classic

I will be getting an iPod classic soon and I would like to know if when playing an audiobook, after pausing it, setting it down, listening to music at a later hour, and then playing the audiobook if it will keep my place.
Every time I ask audible, they say "iPad?". ._.

I had the exact same problem with the ipod classic to USB connection to my car stereo too. Have since changed cars to one with a pre-installed Parrot audio device and still having the same problem? Any solutions to help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • ITunes store purchase of audiobook for iPod Classic

Has the iTunes Store abandoned the iPod Classic with respect to audiobooks?  The audiobooks I have found in the iTunes Store are marked as compatible with only the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch. What gives?

If you can't locate the desired books in audiobook format in the iTunes Store, I'm afraid your only option is to see if you can find it anywhere else for download such as from your local library or Audible.

  • Audiobooks on Ipod Classic 160GB

I have some audiobooks in my iTunes, organised into different books, each separated into chapters (20-30 minute mp3 tracks, just changed to media type "audiobook").
They are all fine, and remain grouped together as books in my iTunes, but not on my iPod.  When I open the Audiobooks section on my iPod, the chapters from various books appear, all jumbled and random, impossible to listen to in sequence.
I have no problem playing through them on my iTunes, but cannot figure out how to group them into folders etc. on my iPod.
I'd be very grateful for some advice, thank you.

  • How I can arrange my audiobooks on ipod classic by itunes?

    hello everyone
I got iPod classic 80 GB and I have old mp3 audiobbok "10 chapters", so I converted it to m4b "10 m4b files" then I put it in the right place on the itunes and sync with my ipod without ant problems.
    _So my problem is :_
my audiobook has 10 chapters and they appear on the ipod like 10 Audiobooks !??
But I want to appear like one audiobook and when I open it I want to see 10 chapters
*Plz don't tell me make a playlist or jone chapters in one file.*
I heard there is program called "Audiobook Builder" on Mac OS and it can solve my problem. But I am Windows user and I don't have mac
    {anyone has informations about this program plz write it down}
Finally, sorry about my bad writing

One .m4b file is one book. Two .m4b files are two books . . . That's how iTunes/iPod work. There is no way around it except for the playlist option, which you've rejected.

  • Audiobooks on iPod Classic, 3rd Gen

I just downloaded an 8-volume audiobook from my county library. The only way I can locate the book after download is through iTunes - Recently Added. I can't find it by sorting Album or Artist. When I eject the iPod, I there is no Audiobooks selection. How can I locate this book to replay it?

Ok, I guess I just got smarter because I just figured it out. I had to go to the Settings, Main Menu and make sure that Audiobooks was checked. It was previously unchecked and that's why it didn't show up on my Main Menu.
    Thanks anyway,

  • Audiobooks on Ipod Classic

I've recently downloaded a few audiobooks from ITunes but find it incredibly frustrating when you lose your place and have to to fast forward to your place.
Is there a faster way to fast forward than simply to hold down the FF button? As the book I'm listening to is 4 8 hour installments it is so annoying when you are 5 or so hours into one and you lose your spot.

While playing click the centre button twice to reveal a progress bar. You can now use the scroll wheel to move the playback position to the time you want.

  • IPod Classic and Audiobooks (Audible, not MP3)

Just curious...has anyone else noticed (and been annoyed by) the fact that Audible audiobooks are no longer accessible anywhere except the "Audiobook" menu?
This bothers for one rather large reason...I ahve a rather large number of Audible audiobooks, and rather than scroll through Every. Single. One, I enjoyed scanning the authors and titles via the "Genre" menu. This capability, sadly, seems to have vanished from the Classic, and I assume the new Nanos as well.
Other than making specific playlists for certain authors, anyone found a way to force the new interface to play nice with these and not separate them from the rest of your music?

I agree there's a problem and I sure hope that Apple fixes it in the next firmware update for the Classic iPod.
I have used every version of iPod (not nanos or whatever just iPods) and this one has definitely broken audiobook organization. On every previous model I simply went to "artists" and selected the name of the author and then had a nice list of the books (using the "album" attribute for book title) and then I could select the part of the book that I wanted to dive into which I could title using the song title attribute. I never ever found the straight audiobook listing particularly useful.
Now I've got to use the amusing "search" mechanism or spend a bunch of time screwing around with playlists to try and put some order in the chaos that some misguided engineers have introduced.
I can not for the life of me understand how the current audiobook category behavior ever got signed off on by QC and usability studies. The iPod Classic as it stands now is almost exclusively a music box rather than what I used to have which was a library of books. I do have music on my iPod but I rarely ever listen to it; rather, I spend hours each evening and in the early hours listening to various books some in audible.com format some that I've converted myself from CD or cassettes and so on
This is without a doubt the most completely non-user-engineered downgrade to an otherwise sterling product line that I've ever seen.

  • My audible audiobooks position isn't remembered after syncing--iPod classic

I recently developed a problem.  After I sync my iPod Classic 160GB on my Mac (Lion), the device (and iTunes) no longer remembers the position where I last stopped listening.  I have gone into each book, hit info, and made such the box is checked next to Remember Playback Position.  The problem only occurs after syncing.
This is very frustrating.  Any help would be much appreciated.

I think I solved the problem myself. Somehow, every music file and video got unchecked in iTunes. I didn't do it--it did it on its own. I am now re-syncing and it appears to be putting stuff back on.
I am not sure how this got messed up, but I used the same cable for my iPod to sync my iPhone and it was after that, that things went haywire.

  • I just bought an audio book from iStore, it is in my iTunes under "audiobooks" but will not sync with my iPod Classic, any ideas?

I have downloaded several audiobooks from audible and they have synced fine with my iPod but this book from the Apple Store will not sync from my iTunes to my iPod.
I am also having an issue with iTunes U; I have subscribed to the two classes I am taking this term and downloaded the videos to iTunes but when I sync my iPod classic I keep getting this error message: "Some of the videos in your iTunes Library were not copied to the iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod." I'm not sure what is going on because I have used this feature on my iPod classic before and it worked fine.

Those videos are probably not in an iPod-friendly format. It’s picky about that. You can try converting them, if possible.
As for the audiobooks, are you sure they haven’t synced? You’ve enabled it to sync books and checked the “Audiobooks” section of your iPod?

  • HT201272 How can I download audiobooks purchased on audible to my iPod from my iTunes library

Two audiobooks that are still in my itunes library and used to be on my ipod are now removed from my ipod (don't know why). They were purchased from audible and worked on my ipod for years but now I can't download them...again even though they are in my library under 'audiobooks. Suggestions please.

If you bought them directly from audible.com then, as far as I know, you should have been able to redownload them from audible for free.
They show in the Audiobooks part of your Mac's iTunes library, and they play ok on there ?
And when trying to sync them you're doing what I said in my above reply e.g. you've selected them on the iPod's Books (Audiobooks ?) tab and then applied/synced that selection (I don't have an iPod Classic but I assume that they have similar syncing screens as on other device)
Does the 'screen' at the top of iTunes then appear to be showing that they are being synced to your iPod ?
You could try asking in iPod Classic forum, you will probably get better help there.

  • How can I play my Audible .aax files on my 120GB IPod Classic?

    Hi all,
I have an IPod classic which can store 120GB of data and I think it is sixth generation, but am not too sure.  I've downloaded some audio books from Audible in .aax format and want to copy them onto my IPod but I can't seem to be able to get them to sync in ITunes.  Does anyone know what the issue is?
    Thanks,
    Sachin

Have you imported the audiobooks into your iTunes library? (Yes, I know that may be an obvious thing - but I simply want to make sure.)
If you have them in your library and you have perfomed a Sync, have you tried using the Search facility on your iPod to see if they are on it, but simply not where you expect them to be? (I don't have any audiobooks, but Podcasts and movies sometimes end up in a different section to the one I expect.)
If you find it, but not where you expect it to be, condier the following. To be an Audiobook, the file must be listed as Audiobook in iTunes. So it's not enough for it to be downloaded as an audiobook. Once you find the file in iTunes, look at File/Get Info/Options>Media Kind. If the Media Kind is not Audiobook, thta's why it's not in Audiobooks on the iPod. Change the Media Kind in iTunes and then Sync the iPod to iTunes. That should sort it out.

  • Audiobook chapters no longer grouped by book on iPod classic

My new iPod classic arrived today. When I synced it to iTunes 7.4.2 I found that the contents of the Audiobooks category were no longer grouped by title. Instead, all of the files were simply alphabetically sorted. So all of the "Chapter 1"s from all of the books appear together in the list. And they play back that way, too—going from Book A's Chapter 1 to Book B's. This basically makes it impossible to listen to an audiobook.
Also, "Audiobooks" no longer appears in the list of Genres, though it did on my old iPod.
All of my audiobooks are .m4b files and show up in the Audiobooks category (not in the Audiobooks genre under Music) in iTunes.
Has anyone else seen this? Any idea what's going on?

See the first section of Corrupt iPod classic. If the media files aren't visible in the hidden folders then it may still be possible to use an unerase/undelete or other file recovery tool.

  • Audiobooks not playing on iPod Classic

I downloaded an audiobook from iTunes. It will play on computer thru iTunes Library and will also play on computer when I click on iPod Audiobooks but will not play on my iPod. The info shows on video screen, but no playback.

It's a long time since I've experienced 1 of 0 on my iPod Classic and I can no longer remember what causes that.
However, 1 of 1 usually means that you are playing the iPod in shuffle mode and that all the songs in the Playlist are set to Skip when shuffling. In this situation, as a song is playing, every other song is set to be skipped, therefore there is nothing else to play - so 1 of 1. So if you are using shuffle mode, check the songs (in your iTunes Library) for Skip when shuffling. To do this, highlight a song and select File/Get Info/Options>Skip when shuffling> - no tick in the box.
If you need to change those settings, you need to Sync the Pod to iTunes afterwards for the changes to be on the iPod as well.

  • Unable to load an audiobook on a ipod classic 5 gen

I just purchased a used ipod classic 5 gen. After resetting the ipod as noted on itunes, I went to sync an audio book to the ipod and get an error message that the audiobook was uinable to be loaded on ipod. What am I doing wrong?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • Podcast & Audiobook Playback Options on iPod Classic?

I recently got a new iPod Classic (7th Gen) as an anniversary gift, but I've been having trouble with how it handles Podcasts & Audiobooks - the iPod I used to have was a couple of generations older (I think 5th Gen?).  Basically the two biggest issues I have are:
    1. Podcasts - the older iPod used to play just a single episode, and then exit back to the main menu once the episode was over (unless I queued several episodes together in a playlist).  The new iPods treat podcasts like an album, and continue playing the next track.  This wouldn't be an issue, except that podcasts are sorted in newest -> oldest order, such that it will play Episode 13, then move on to the next track which is Episode 12, and I have to stop it, go back to the menu, and select Episode 14.  Is there any way to get the order to sort ascending (changing it in iTunes didn't appear to affect the order on the iPod at all)?  Or at least an option to play only one episode at a time and not automatically cycle through them?
    2. Audiobooks - I classified my audiobooks into various genres such as "Classics", "Fantasy", "SciFi", etc. in iTunes, and on the old iPod, these genres would show up under Music->Genres in the iPod menu (alongside Rock, Pop, etc.).  This appears to no longer be the case.  Similarly, audiobook authors no longer appear in the list of Artists and audiobook titles no longer show under Albums.  It appears the only way to access audiobooks now is through the
Music->Audiobooks menu?  And unfortunately it appears as though the Audiobooks menu only lists individual track names, and not Artist or Album?  To make matters worse, the track names are being sorted alphabetically and ignoring the Disc # & Track # metadata stored in iTunes.  Is there any way to fix any of this?
Any help would be appreciated!  I've poked around in the settings both on the iPod itself and in iTunes with the iPod connected, but I haven't found a way to correct any of these issues yet.

I've found a workaround for this problem: the Join Together v5.1 iTunes script from Doug's AppleScripts combine the segments into two large AAC files.
Now it's OK if the iPod stops playing segments after they finish because they're hours long instead of minutes.
