Audible Audiobooks

Hopefully, This will help someone save an hour on the phone with Apple. The rep i spoke to was nice but at the end of 30 minutes had no answers, Saying that he had no ipad, just an i-touch "but they are the same thing" .... no, sir, they are not. He ended up suggesting i take the Ipad to the apple store.. They would not have any way to troubleshoot this issue.
I buy audio books from www.audible.com, And they show up in my itunes library, but i was having trouble getting them to synch to ipad, As they appeared in my library, but do NOT appear on the ipad synch screen (BOOKS TAB) in itunes.
In order to get them to synch i had to check the manually manage library checkbox and then click & drag to ipad. This resolution was provided by the nice folks at audible.com. I buy the books there because the same books in the itunes store are much more expensive.

Cannot drag and drop Audible audiobooks onto my iPhone 4s

When I attempt to drag and drop Auible audiobook files i only get a ghosted file on my iPhone. The file itself nver make it tot he phone. This ghosted file cannot be deleted from the iPhone.
Once I try to drag an Audible audiobook to the phone it then locks up the file transfer process on the phone and music files also become untransferable. They also just show up as ghosted files on the phone (when viewed through itunes). They do not show up on the phone when viewed from the phone.
Please help!

Now I tried downloading other albums that are in my library but not on my phone and those didn't work either. Could it be my phone or itunes that's not working?

Windows 8.1 issues w/ Audible audiobooks

Hi there,
I just upgraded from Win 8 to Win 8.1 and have now issues with (already authorized) audible audiobooks in my iTunes library.
When I try to listen to them, I am first asked to (re) authorize them by entering my audible password, then I get the following error message: "Could not authorize this computer because iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes." (I doubt these message reflect the correct reason for this issue as everything else I have in my iTunes library works fine.)
Then I get a second error message:"Could not authorize this computer because an error occured (1007).
I already re-installed iTunes also I have de-authorized and re-authorized my audible account in iTunes.
Does anyne has idea(s) on why this is happening to my Audible audiobooks ?

We should never turn off the machine during the update/upgrade process. Anyway, no one knows what is happening unless we can see and read memory dump or syslem log. Most likely your machine is bricked, the next step is to rebuild the machine back to factory settings. Do you have a set of Recovery discs ? Best way to deal with Audible audiobooks on apple tv?

hi everyone,
i've recently purchased a 40GB apple tv, and despite a few glitches and getting used to it, i'm pretty pleased with how it's going.
i've a few audible audiobooks on itunes, and whilst i realise apple tv doesn't play these natively, i'd be interested in how others have dealt with this. what workarounds (if any) are available? did you have to burn them to cd and reimport them (hope not! that would take ages!)
if you've got any suggestions i'd be glad to hear them, and let me know how easy/convenient you've found them.

You can use the Apple TV like an Airport Express. You have turn on iTunes in the ATV menu. Set up iTunes for Remote Speakers and then you can play Audible Books by running them in iTunes. They will play out of your remote speakers.

Can't find Audible Audiobook on Iphone 4s

Hey everyone,
First post here, so hopefully I get this right. I've searched around and can't find anyone with a problem similar to mine.
So I downloaded a book from audible. And when I put the book on my iphone, i went to the audiobooks section to listen to it... and its not there! However, If i type the name of the book into the spotlight function, it does show up. And if I select it, it opens the itunes app and plays it. So i know its on my phone I just can't figure out where my phone is storing it if it isn't in my itunes app. (i also have not downloaded the audible app so I know its not there either).
Can anyone tell me how to find it? I wouldn't mind having it on there so much, except that now i've finished listening too it and want to take it off... but since I can't find it... I can't delete it.

Audible Audiobook artwork won't display on iPhone 3G

Hey guys, I have an 8gb iPhone 3G running 3.1.3 and I just purchased an audiobook off audible.com and I transferred it to the iPhone, but all I get it the generic audiobook icon as its album art.
I went through iTunes and the album art appears to be attached to the file accurately. I also have two other audiobooks (all from audible), and none of them are showing the artwork...
I've even done the 'get info' off the file on my iPhone when it's plugged into iTunes and it shows the album art is there, but yet will not display...
I've read up on this, online, and apparently there are issues with artwork, but nothing I've read sounds like THIS issue... can anyone help?

This happened to me too after I upgraded and then resynced my iphone 3G. I read somewhere that if you reset the iphone, it will be ok. But that's a complete waste of time and shouldn't be the only solution. What a buggy device.

Audible Audiobooks Album Artwork

Hi everyone,
I just joined audible.co.uk to download audiobooks as I heard that it was better than using the iTunes store. I've just downloaded my first book and everything is working fine other than that the album artwork for the book is terrible. It's a tiny low-res image that isn't the same as the one on the website and I can't seem to change it like I normally would with through the 'get info' section in iTunes. I suspect some DRM BS is behind this. Anyway, it's hardly the end of the world but it is annoying. If anyone knows a way to change the artwork for downloaded audiobooks then please let me know.

I've always thought that Audible was just using small images to embed cover art into Audible files. You mean that the images are larger and that iTunes is not showing them properly? Interesting.
I've tried to replace the images with larger versions from Amazon and a few other places. I finally got the cover art to show in iTunes. However, the modified Audible files would resync evertime the iPod was inserted into the dock. So, I ended up clearing out the added artwork. You can read more details in this thread:

I wish Audbile would allow us to replace the embedded image. I have emailed Audible this question and complained about the small images. Their response was that they use the cover art given to them by the publishers. They didn't comment on about modifying the images.
Gerald, do you have more insight into this?
BTW, we are hunkering down for Hurricane Ike which might hit Houston, TX very late Friday night or very early Saturday morning.

I have noticed this problem also. Starting happening after 2.1 upgrade, only noticed it with audible files. It sounds like it is playing it faster. I found pausing and moving forward or back even one second fixes it. Just pauses does not fix the problem. I usually download with format 3 from audible.

Audible audiobooks on iPod classic

I will be getting an iPod classic soon and I would like to know if when playing an audiobook, after pausing it, setting it down, listening to music at a later hour, and then playing the audiobook if it will keep my place.
Every time I ask audible, they say "iPad?". ._.

I had the exact same problem with the ipod classic to USB connection to my car stereo too. Have since changed cars to one with a pre-installed Parrot audio device and still having the same problem? Any solutions to help with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Audible Audiobooks Won't Play

I recently joined Audible.com and downloaded a couple of books. Neither one will play properly on my iPhone though both play fine on iTunes on my PC. The iPhone behaviour is to start playing and then stop some random time into the book - about 5 mins in one case. Anybody have the same problem and/or ideas for a fix?

Hi there. I signed up for the discussion board to reply to your question. I've just signed up for Audible with an iPhone and am having the same problems. Either the file starts, then stops at a random point. Or it returns to the main menu instead of playing. When I can get the files to play, the sound is distorted. I've tried downloading file formats 3 and 4 without success. I've combed all discussion boards and this is the only place where I found anyone with a similar experience. Are we alone on this, I wonder?If you've solved your problem in the meantime, perhaps you could let me know what you did?

How can i get audible audiobooks from more than one account on my ipod

itunes is limiting me from transfering books form more than 2 account to my ipod. is there some way around this so that I can get all my audio books on my ipod

have you heard about Thunderbird profiles? A profile change requires a restart unlike OE and it's change of identities. But multiple profiles is basically functionally identical to the OE identify. There is also an add-on https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/index-en.html#profname which make a menu entry to allow you to set te profile to be opened next time Thunderbird starts.
I am guessing crashing into the already existing outlook import folder made the mail an issue. So if you rename the outlook express import folder to something else the import may well go as planned.

My audible audiobooks position isn't remembered after syncing--iPod classic

I recently developed a problem. After I sync my iPod Classic 160GB on my Mac (Lion), the device (and iTunes) no longer remembers the position where I last stopped listening. I have gone into each book, hit info, and made such the box is checked next to Remember Playback Position. The problem only occurs after syncing.
This is very frustrating. Any help would be much appreciated.

I think I solved the problem myself. Somehow, every music file and video got unchecked in iTunes. I didn't do it--it did it on its own. I am now re-syncing and it appears to be putting stuff back on.
I am not sure how this got messed up, but I used the same cable for my iPod to sync my iPhone and it was after that, that things went haywire.

Wondershare DVD to Ipod. It takes it right from DVD, saves it to a File on your PC and automatically puts it immediately onto your Ipod with your Ipod Connected. If I remember correctly, It was $30. You then can go & name the movie whatever you want in Itunes, Because it saves it as Title 001. Very cool program. I use to use DVD Decrypter & Videora together. With this it's just one step only.

IPod Classic and Audiobooks (Audible, not MP3)

Just curious...has anyone else noticed (and been annoyed by) the fact that Audible audiobooks are no longer accessible anywhere except the "Audiobook" menu?
This bothers for one rather large reason...I ahve a rather large number of Audible audiobooks, and rather than scroll through Every. Single. One, I enjoyed scanning the authors and titles via the "Genre" menu. This capability, sadly, seems to have vanished from the Classic, and I assume the new Nanos as well.
Other than making specific playlists for certain authors, anyone found a way to force the new interface to play nice with these and not separate them from the rest of your music?

I agree there's a problem and I sure hope that Apple fixes it in the next firmware update for the Classic iPod.
I have used every version of iPod (not nanos or whatever just iPods) and this one has definitely broken audiobook organization. On every previous model I simply went to "artists" and selected the name of the author and then had a nice list of the books (using the "album" attribute for book title) and then I could select the part of the book that I wanted to dive into which I could title using the song title attribute. I never ever found the straight audiobook listing particularly useful.
Now I've got to use the amusing "search" mechanism or spend a bunch of time screwing around with playlists to try and put some order in the chaos that some misguided engineers have introduced.
I can not for the life of me understand how the current audiobook category behavior ever got signed off on by QC and usability studies. The iPod Classic as it stands now is almost exclusively a music box rather than what I used to have which was a library of books. I do have music on my iPod but I rarely ever listen to it; rather, I spend hours each evening and in the early hours listening to various books some in audible.com format some that I've converted myself from CD or cassettes and so on
This is without a doubt the most completely non-user-engineered downgrade to an otherwise sterling product line that I've ever seen.

Updated iTunes on my Macbook and most of my Audible-purchased audiobooks have disappeared completely

When I recently upgraded iTunes (wish I hadn't!), I lost almost all of a very sizeable Audible audiobook library. Any fix for this other than downloading each and every one of a 5-year old library from Audible?? I have an early 2009 Macbook, using Mavericks 10.9.1.

Try looking in the iTunes Media folder for the other audiobooks.
Are the missing audiobooks in that audiobook folder?
Do you see anything in the previous iTunes library folder?
If the files are still there and you have a previous itl, you can re-create the iTunes library or just drag and drop the audiobooks back into iTunes again.
