Audible books and bookmarks on shuffle
i have an 11 hour book, that is broken up into two blocks of audio. surely there is a way that i can navigate thru chapters or just move more quickly to find the spot i was listening to while on the computer. is there a way to get thru a large file like that more quickly? makes me almost think that downloading to CD,then loading back onto shuffle from the 10 CDs would be more versatile. now how smart would that be?? thoughts anyone?? thanks.

What works for me is to download from Audible.com using only Format 3. Then load the book onto the Shuffle along with at least one song. With the Shuffle not plugged in, double-click the book -- a play bar will appear at the top of the iTunes screen. With your computer's sound ON, move the slider along the play bar until you hear the spot in the book you'd like to bookmark. Pause the book, and then double-click on the song -- let it play for a few seconds and then pause it. Now plug in your Shuffle. iTunes will update it with the new bookmark. When iTunes says it's OK to disconnect your Shuffle, close iTunes and unplug your Shuffle. Your Shuffle should start playing your book from the point you bookmarked (or close to it -- mine sometimes starts a little further into the book and I have to fast reverse to the exact point I want). This method sure beats burning a bunch of CDs.

We use an iPod mini to listen to Audible books and to listen to music. The book selections are large (6 to 8 hours). When we try to shuffle songs, one of the book selections start. How can we exclude the books from the music?

Thanks for the info, but that's not really my problem. I know how to convert CDs to iTunes m4b audiobooks; all of my audiobooks are labeled in iTunes as audiobooks. The problem is that when I put them on my Touch, it sorts them into Audible downloads and iTunes Store downloads, instead of just putting them all into the Audiobooks list. I want to see all of audiobooks in one list, without Audible having its own little folder. -
my hard drive crashed. I regularly duplicated it to an external hard drive. So can do I find the files I need to recover my music library, audible books and podcasts to my new hard drive?
Restore the iTunes folder from <User's Music> in the backup to <User's Music> in the rebuilt computer, install iTunes. Job done.

I recently got an iBook G4 and I would like to share my address book and bookmarks for Safari from my iMac G5, so I have that same info on both computers. Is there an easy way to do that? I have an airport wireless network in my house so I use the dsl connection with both. Thanks!
You could Export all your addresses from the one computer and import them onto the other computer. Just Highlight all your cards and click Export ~ You can save it to your Desktop and then email it to yourself on your other computer. Then, when you get the email on your other computer, open the email, and click on the vCard you've sent yourself. It will import all the cards to your address book.

If I subscribe to Audible for books. Can I download and pay for Audible books once. But place the
same book on my sweetie's Zen V Plus and my Zen?I am sure you can: I own three ZENs and a ZEN V plus and put my Audible books onto whichever player I wish to use. However, you will have to "register" the various players with Audible and the Audible manager. If you find that too complicated, then do as I do and save the books to your computer and then copy it to whichever player you want. Enjoy your books!

When my MacBook Pro was erased and reloaded, my address book, stickies and bookmarks on all my browsers were gone! How can I re-load the old contents. I've looked at all the back-ups. I find the applications, but not the contents.
You had two choices:
1- you save the files from your user library
2- use icloud which would put them back

Sync Address Book and bookmarks
My wife has an iphone, currently syncing via cable to her group of contacts in my address book on my iMac. I am about to buy my first iphone, and will be using icloud. Can icloud be set to sync with just my contact group in address book across my two devices - ipad and new iphone? Or am I going to get my wife's contacts as well on my phone? On the iPad we have ended up with all the Address book contacts in two groups, hers and mine. No problem here, but a pain on my new iphone potentially...
Also, I use Firefox on the iMac. Any way to sync the bookmarks across to Safari on the iPad?AFAIK iCloud will sync all your contacts. It would be better if she had her own iCloud account - after all it's free - and then she can sync her own Address Book: however she would also need her own user account on your Mac. If you are both using the same user account you can only sync with one iCloud account and as far as iCloud is concerned you are one person.
There is no way of automatically syncing bookmarks with FireFox; you can import them but it's a manual process and then you would have to add changes manually. -

Audible book showing up in music playlist
I downloaded audible books and they correctly showed up in the audiobook file. However, they are showing up in my 'Songs' list on my Ipod. When I connect my ipod to my Mac/Itunes, it does not show the audio book in the wrong place but if I am playing songs on Ipod, when it comes to the audio book, it starts playing the book. I want to know how to get the audiobook out of the song list.
Thanks for that! Shame there isn't also an option to label TV shows as TV shows because I've been converting some Elgato EyeTV recordings for the iPod.

When syncing to my iphone if I do not start playing an Audible book and complete the Autentication screen (Audible ID and password), the Audible books are erased from my iphone during the sync. Is there a way around this?
The fix was frustratingly simple for me.
Select the book and select 'Get Info' from the 'File' menu at the top of the screen, then enter the book title in the 'Album Name' field. -
I have a new iPhone 4 and an iPad and I want to sync my purchased books (and bookmarks) from the iPad to the iPhone via iTunes and my MBP. But this seems to be only possible if I also automatically sync music and videos. Is there a way to manually manage music and videos but sync books?
As soon as I click on 'sync books' in the Books tab it deletes all the music and videos from my iPhone or iPad (and manually 'manage music and videos' in the summary gets unchecked). If I reselect 'manually manage music and videos', 'sync books' gets automatically unchecked and during the next sync all my books get deleted. Very annoying!I have the latest software on iPad 2 plus iPhone but my iBooks don't sync can anyone please advise my other info does sync. Thank you

Ipod Shuffle and Bookmarks when listening to a book
I download books from Audible.com. It was my understanding that when you are listening and then turn off the Ipod, that it is supposed to bookmark the session so that when you turn it on again, you start listening from where you left off. I am listening in the non-shuffle mode. When I turn on the ipod again, it starts as much as a minute forward of where I left off. This is very frustrating. Can anyone help?

I'm guessing you downloaded your audiobooks in Audible's Format 4. I suggest you try Format 3. I've listened to 60 or more books from Audible.com, and have had very few (but some) problems with bookmarking -- however, I always download in Format 3.

In Address Book, you have the option of entering a web site address in an individual's record. In Safari, by selecting Address Book in System Preferences>Bookmarks, you can access a list of these web addresses via either the Bookmarks Menu or Bookmarks Bar.
Entries in the Bookmarks Menu are one way to enter, sort or access specific bookmarks. My preference is to access my Bookmarks via the Bookmarks Bar. More information can be found via the Safari Help menu (enter Bookmarks in Help's spotlight panel. -
Does anybody else have problems with Audible books being cut off in mid-listening, and none of the solutions suggested comes even close to being applicable? It's my 5th time in a year. And I've had it. The interruptions and consequent time consuming attempts to find a solution, and once I do, again spending way too much time finding the place in the book, where I was so rudely interrupted have pushed my patience to the limit. I downloaded my books on different devices, and use my iPhone for calls and texting. Once it's time to get a new Smartphone I'll stay far, far away from any Apple product. I don't care to waste time to get my smartphone to do what it is supposed and offering to do. And I am really getting ****** of when I am driving in the middle of nowhere, listening to a good book and Apple decides that that would be a good time to put a stop to that. Mostly I wanted to get a response from Apple Support, and am not sure how I was channeled into an Apple Support Community (what a ridiculous term!). My problem is with Apple itself. But not for long anymore......
