Audible click when playing sounds

For a few months now, I've had an FiiO Olympus E-10 USB headphone amp. The reason for getting it was convenience; it allows me to just unplug the Thunderbolt cable from my MacBook Air and leave my headphones hooked up to the Thunderbolt Display through the E-10. The audio quality is actually quite good, but for some reason I get an audible click every time audio stops.
When a system sound has finished playing, there is a click
When I pause a YouTube video or when it ends, there is a click
When I play music from iTunes and a track pauses or ends, there is a click.
It's really quite annoying.
Additional data points :
When I have the headphones connected to my audio jack on the MBA, the click does not happen.
When I have another pair of headphones connected to the E-10, the click also happens.
No specific drivers were installed to support the device. None are available on the manufacturers site either.
In my view, all of the above appears to point towards a hardware issue.
Any similar experience?
Any thoughts on how to resolve it without buying a new device?

Is this click coming from your speakers, whether the built-ins or attached? I ask because most of us seem to get a click or pop when the Mac wakes from sleep, etc. Isn't all that loud on my system and doesn't bother me, but some folks really dislike it and have mentioned it (read moaned & complained) extensively in the past. Seems like maybe the sound chip or something 1st powering up.

  • Downloaded CD clicks when played back

I have two new CD's that will play back just fine on my iMac, but they can't be downloaded to my iTunes library without picking up popping, clicking and screaching artifacts when they are played back from the library. (I have successfully downloaded some 30 GB of my CD library.) What's happening?

Do the files play okay in Quicktime Player?  I have read somewhere that iTunes can introduce effects in older CDs which were made with a certain kind of audio enhancement.  Also make sure iTunes itself doesn't have any sound enhancing filters enabled.

  • Code to Click and Play Sound in HTML5

    Hi,
I’m creating an Animated Digital Children’s Book.  I am using Edge Animate for the presentation for viewing on Tablets and IPads.  I want to add audio .wav or .mp3 sound affects to predefined buttons “Button1, Button2…Button16” that will play when the buttons are clicked.  I know there are several ways of doing this, but the code I have tried doesn’t work or I don’t understand it.  It would be nice to have a few interactive sound affects since the product is for kids.  Does anyone have or know HTML5 or Javascript code that will work if placed in Dreamweaver?  Other suggestions are welcomed!
    G. Hardy

Well, since it's a  site for kids...
    http://www.javascriptkit.com/script/script2/soundlink.shtml
Keep in mind, you need two file types to cover all browsers (MP3 and either Ogg or Wav). Also, this will likely only work when you preview in browser not in Design or Live View depending on your version of DW.
Also keep in mind that most visitors online get extremely annoyed by this type of functionality. On a site meant for adults to visit, browse and purchase goods (possibly at work), this would need at minimum a large "sound off" button that would disable all sound. Also, don't rely on the sound to tell the viewer what's happening. Some visitors won't have sound (no speakers), won't want sound (speakers turned off) or could be deaf (accessibility issues).

Each time, I reset my delay settings to 0 and go from there. I did notice between setting 4 and 5 I could ALMOST get the bass kick sample to end in the right spot, but I can't use fractions, so I can't get it where I want. Not sure if this would help anyway.
Any other things I could try? Thanks so much! I hope I can figure this out!
MIDI timing in Logic, as it is in all MIDI/Audio sequencers... is taken from the audio clock. There is a chance the audio drivers are not reporting the correct position to Logic, if you had the right kind of cable you could test it by using the internal Mac audio and see if there was a difference. The "Recording Delay" slider is for adjusting drivers that don't report the correct position, if you're getting it close using between a 4 - 5 setting then that's as close as you're going to get it, the rest may be normal MIDI timing errors.
    That said...
No matter how the Logic software (or any DAW) subdivides MIDI clock, to the hardware it's only 24 pulses per quarter note. Compare that resolution to an audio rate 44,100 samples per second. MIDI clock is not very accurate.

  • Sharp audible click when powering on/off

Running 10.4.7 on an Intel iMac and just starting getting a sharp clicking sound (single sound) when either turning the computer on or off. No behavior changes in terms of speed, display or stability, but I'd like to find out if other machines are doing this.

  • Audible "click" in i-tunes files

Most of my i-tunes library has been loaded from CD’s. I have found that in some files there is an audible “click” when I play it back on my i-pod. This is most frequent in audiobooks, but I have found a few music CD”s where it happens as well. It doesn’t happen for the entire CD and if I re-load the CD the “click” might disappear from where it was and pop up somewhere else, or it might go away entirely. The CD’s don’t look dirty or seem overly scratched and I have even had it happen with brand new CD’s that have never been played.
Does this sound like a problem with the CD’s? The CD drive? I-tunes? I-pod? Has anyone else encountered this problem?

My suggestion to use the smart playlist was more along the lines of making one list with rules to show everything in your library as long as it was kind "mpeg" (= mp3).
Smart playlists cannot be edited manually, only by changing the rules.  You can use them as the basis for another smart playlist though.
There is added overhead to using smart playlists, so don't go overboard.

  • Audition clicks when starting playback

    Folks...
Just installed Audtion 3 on a Dell Optiplex 960. Using an older CardD soundcard. Have the ASIO drivers. The problem: when I hit the space bar or the play button, trying to play back files, I get an audible click through the sound card. Other than that there is no problem with the audio. sample rate doesn't seem to matter. This happens on both analog and digital outputs. Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Technically, yes...  Your computer should come with the latest BIOS.  But the BIOS ins't a windows thing.  It's more of a motherboard thing that any OS would use.  So really it would be Dell that's at fault if your BIOS has a bug. Since people use their computers with different hardware and software most BIOS updates aren't crittical to a systems proper functioning.  It's only after a specific combination of components and/or software (or hackers) reveal a bug that an update becomes necassary for a small group of people and not necassarilly everyone who owns the system.  Then again the RAID problems on the OptiPlex 960 seem to be a bit more widespread...
To check the BIOS version just enter the BIOS screen using the F2 key (I think) and it should display it somewhere...

It could also be a chipset driver problem with the ICH10D/D0. Try the latest Intel Matrix Storage software at:

But if it's working now... Why mess with it   You could just end up making it worse...

  • My audible files have no sound

Somehow I lost the ability for my audible files to play sound. I noticed it first after buring a audiobook and in my car the cd's were silent. I went back to my computer and noticed that when they burned the files to the CD the file size for each chapter was 1KB. So nothing got burned over.
I then tried to play the audiobooks in iTunes. No sound plays on any of the files. Now if I go to my Audible Manager it plays the files fine - with sound.
I'm pretty sure I just updated a version of iTunes and i think that's what screwed it up, but I am not sure. I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes to no avail. All my audible files are still silent.
    Anyone have any help? thanks!

Here is the Audible response I received.
    =============================
Thank you for contacting us at Audible again. I understand that you have encountered some difficulties while attempting to play your Audible titles within iTunes. We are currently aware of an issue with the latest version of iTunes (Version 10.5) for PC which breaks the playback of Audible Format 4 titles. As you may be experiencing, the titles will look like they are playing normally within iTunes, but they do not have any sound or the sound is distorted. While we are diligently working to resolving this issue, you will still be able to play your titles via iTunes -as long as you use one of other 3 formats (Format 2, 3, or Enhanced). All you will need to do is re-download your Audible purchases in any of these formats, and you shouldn't have any problems with the playback.
I have forwarded your email address to our Technical Team. When this issue is corrected, we will provide you with an update. To re-download your Audible title in a different format, please reference the following steps:
    1. Go to the "My Library" section of the website: http://www.audible.com/lib
    2. From here, locate the title you wish to download.
    3. To the right of the title, locate the "File Size/Audio Format" label and please click "Change".
    4. A drop down menu will become accessible. Please select the down arrow and choose the desired format you wish to download the title in.
    5. Please click on “Download It” and it will download in the new format.
Remember, there is no additional charge for this download and you can download your books as many times as you would like. I apologize for any inconvenience that you may have encountered and if you have any further questions, please feel free to let me know.

  • Audio clicks when playback is stopped.

In the process of recording a couple of bass guitars that were Keymapped into sampler instruments, I noticed some strange audio behavior. While playing the new sampler instruments, finger lift off from my MIDI guitar controller was causing a clicking or sucking sound each and every time. (The recorded notes in Logic were allowed to decay naturally and the samples were not looped.)
So I went to the recording in Logic and sure enough, hitting the space bar or numerical decimal would elicit a click when stopping playback. A quick test recording was completed in Digital Performer with the same result. Also a quick test in Logic with the smallest and largest i/O settings. Same problem.
Recording signal into the Mac via Built-in Line input also produces the same clicking. So that removes suspicion for my interface (828mkll with Black Lion mod) which has been a rock-solid performer.
I have 5 GB of Ram. OSX10.5.5, 7200 RPM sata drives, etc.
Is this some sort of core audio issue?
    What to do???

Ok, I recorded each bass chromatically into Logic in real time (not triggering samples via MIDI).
The resulting audio files were opened in Keymap to be converted to an EXS24 sampler instruments.
The lift off clicking noise occurs with both basses but not with factory sampler instruments I play with the Godin LGX-SA.
The point about the spacebar or numerical pad decimal point is that when I use either of these to stop/start playback of the original audio file in Logic, clicking occurs. Uninterrupted audio playback is fine. Interrupted playback causes clicking which should not occur. While attempting to problem solve the funny lift off noise while playing the sampler instruments, I noticed that interrupting playback of the original recording in Logic caused clicking.
I recorded the same bass guitars into DP (not MIDI-triggered samples) through the same interface with the same clicking problem when audio file playback is stopped via the spacebar or DP keyboard commands.
So there are no MIDI messages involved here. The point of mentioning the sampler instruments is just that that was the when I noticed the audio problem. For simplicity sake, if we leave sampler instruments out of the discussion, I am still left with some sort of audio problem.
The same basses played and recorded via Built-in Line input causes the same clicking to occur during interrupted played back.
Somehow. the noise that occurs with finger release from the fretboard is related to the problem with the audio clicking when stopped during playback. Meaning that the audio file is corrupt in some way.
I followed your suggestion of unchecking both play tickboxes in the Sound Effects tab of the Sound preference. The problem still exits.
So in summary, at this time, I cannot record audio into my Mac without some sort of clicking problem when stopping playback. Audio that I record then causes some strange lift off noise or click when played as a sampler instrument. The base problem is that something goes wrong when audio is recorded into my Mac.

  • When playing games on the ipad I have no sound and it it very slow.

when playing games downloaded from the app store I have no sound and the games arte very slow?

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

You may need to do a Restore in iTunes.
Clicking sounds from an iPod that has a hard drive is probably not a good thing.  It is possible that your iPod's hard drive is becoming unreliable.

  • When playing a dvd made from idvd sound only for 1/2 of the movie

when playing a movie in idvd after burning it sound present only 1/2 of the movie. checked plenty of memory 74 GB left. checked sound imported as aiif files.
made a new theme no change.  can you help please
    Thanks

    Hi
    No audio on DVD disc.
    Most common origin.
    1. Imported audio from iTunes.
    • In iTunes copy out as an Audio-CD .aiff (Same as played on standard Stereo CD - no .mp3)
    • Use this in Your movie project
    2. Low - Free Space on Start-up/Boot/Internal/Mac OS Hard disk makes it hard for iMovie to work as intended.
Down to 1.3 GB and it doesn’t work - especially audio don’t migrate over to Media Browser
    (iM’08 & 09)
    3. Material in iMovie’08 & 09 - Shared to Media Browser and here selected as Large
large.m4v. It silenced out this project in iDVD. By making a slight alteration - provoking it to ask for a new Share/Publish to Media Browser and here selecting 640x480 - and audio was back when a new iDVD project was created including this movie.
    Minuscular - - 176x144
    Mobile - - - - - 480x360
    Medium - - - - 640x480
    Large - - - - - - 720x540    960x540
    HD - - - - - - - - 1280x720
    4. Strange audio formats like .mp3, .avi, .wma etc.
    • Change them to .aiff. Use an audio editor like Audacity (free)
    5. Main audio is set to off in System Preferences - Does this by it self - Don’t know why
    Cheque Audio-Out resp. Audio-In

Had the same problem; some Googling around gave me a kludgy, but effective fix
Downgrade Perian from recent versions back to version 1.0.
That worked for me, and so far I haven't encountered any deficiencies — except it takes more advanced versions of Perian to enable QuickTime to handle subtitles in .srt format — that I have noticed.
    7. GarageBand fix.
In this set audio to 44.1 kHz (Klaus1 suggestion)
(if this don’t work try 48 kHz - me guessing)
    IMPORTANT !
    Before burning the DVD.
    • Do a DiskImage (File menu and down) (Save as a DiskImage)
    • Double click on the .img file
    • Test it with Apple DVD-player tool
If it’s OK then make Your DVD.
Burn at x1 speed.... (or x4)
    • In iDVD 08 - or - 09
    • Burn from DiskImage with Apple’s Disk Utilities application
    • OR burn with Roxio Toast™ if You got it

  • How to diminish latency when clicking and playing a track?

I´m currently working on a play as the sound technician, and I have to play sound on certain cues. The other day, at a rehearsal, my mac froze, second time it´s happened (though it didn´t really freeze because I hit a few keys and a little ¨quit window¨ popped up, I think about force quit, but I couldn´t move the cursor). I rebooted, and when I started playing the tracks from the itunes library, there´s occasionally more latency in playing the track when I double click it, and that´s kind of a little problem seeing as I have to play the sounds on cue! I uninstalled itunes, and reinstalled, but to no avail.  Any ideas? Thanks guys!
P.S. If you guys know of any other ideas that I could try as well, I´m all ears!

Maybe it is me, but that doesn't work for me.
I don't want the first video in the gallery to auto start
I want to be able to manually start the first video and NOT have to manually stop it and go to another video in the gallery, tap/click play and have that first video stop then and the new one start.
If I set the Data OnStart to it autostarts the first item. If I go to the next item and press play, the first item continues, so I end up with both playing.
so the setup below does not work.
    what am I missing?

  • Play sound when going to previous slide

I have a Next and Previous button on my slide presentation.
When I click forward button, it does a StopAllSounds and goes to
the next slide, and starts the sound for slide 2 correctly.
However, if I then click the Previous button, it goes to the
previous slide, but will not start sound, and if I do this Previous
button, then click next, the sound on slide 2 is somehow disabled
    from playing.
Is there an easy way to setup slide presentations with sound?
I'd like o avoide overlapping sound (playing sound from slide 1
when on slide 2, and stopping and starting correctly).

I'm struggling with the same issues, except that I can't even
get the sound to start. Have you found a solution that works, and
