Audible file starts at beginning when Zen XTRA 40gb is not powered on after about 24

I don't know if this is the case for everyone, but my Zen XTRA, if it is not powered on for more than 24 hours, it seems the memory is reset and does a cold boot from the Creative logo screen, and when I play my Audible file, instead of playing from where it left off before the power off, it plays from the beginning. If I don't bookmark before I power off, and don't use my player for over 24hours, I have to manually forward to where I last left off in my audible program.
It's kind of an annoyance. I wonder if it's only my player, or if other players are having the same problem.
Deli'verator

Just so you know, I have the same problem with my Zen Xtra and found your post looking for a solution. Yes, it's a pain, and I wish I had an answer. If you find a fix (the bookmark workaround seems reasonable in the short term), please post it here. I'll do the same. Good luck.

  • Zen Xtra 40G - PC Not Recognizing Unit after Firmware and Driver upgrade

I own a Zen Xtra 40G unit and have just recently upgraded the firmware to the latest version (.20.08). I then proceeded to upgrade to the latest Windows XP driver (.26.02) and after reboot, the system no longer recognized my jukebox.
I tried my room mates, still on an older version of the firmware, and his worked without a problem.
In order to check and see if it was a one time fluke, I uninstalled both the driver and Creative MediaSource and re-installed from the original CD.
Again, my jukebox (still with the new firmware) worked flawlessly. I then upgraded Media Source to the latest version (2.03.09) and rebooted only to find my jukebox still worked perfectly.
I then downloaded and installed the latest Windows driver again (.26.02) and rebooted. My PC stopped recognizing my jukebox again but my buddie's still worked without a problem.
Is there a known flaw with the Windows driver and the latest firmware version.
Could Creative fix the problem or let me know if there is a setting I need to change in order for my PC to recognize my jukebox under the latest software and drivers?

So am I to assume from that message you think I should revert back to the old driver?

  • Creative Zen Xtra 40GB - BATTERY NOT RECOGNIZED BY PLAY

I just received a brand new 40GB Xtra that absolutely will not recognize that a battery is installed; I see only the AC line icon at all times. I've read through many related threads; did a Disk Cleanup, turned the power-strip that the transformer is plugged into on and off several times, R&R the battery many times. cleaned the contacts, etc..., and cannot resolve the problem.
My first email response from Creative regarding the matter directed me to update the Firmware. Guess what... can't update the firmaware until the device recognizes that a battery is installed. Pretty certain they never shipped firmware that wouldn't at least let the device see the battery, let alone charge it accurately, anyway.
Waiting for the next round of emails from Creative now, but wondering if anyone here had anything else.
    Thanks!

Yes, it did seem like it was just the battery, but Creative is now talking about RMA'ing the entire unit. I did suggest that they might send me a battery to try first.
    Thanks for your input!

  • Missing Songs on Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - 40GB. Player empty but space not 1

I have the Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 40GB.
Over the last couple of weeks I?ve been slowly ripping my CDs, using Creative MediaSource and then adding them to my Nomad player. Recently, I went to turn on my player and notice it saying ?rebuilding library?. I thought nothing of it.<SPAN> I then went to see how many songs and albums were on the player and from what I could tell it looked like a lot less than what I thought I had copied over. The songs were something like 3750 and the number of albums was something like 350, which was far less than what I thought it should be but was not 00% for sure.<SPAN> Total free space was something like 7800MB.
Anyway, yesterday, I tried to copy over some new songs that I had just ripped from CDs.<SPAN> ? of the way through the battery died on the Zen player so it stopped transferring. I went to charge the player and when turned it on the player said ?rebuilding library?. There should, at this point, had been 4500+ songs.<SPAN> I went and tried to copy over the files again, from my computer, and noticed that the songs that I had just copied and would have been skipped, were being copied over again. When I went to check Settings, About the player said I had the ~3750 songs plus the additional songs that had just copied over. At this point I just copied over the new songs bringing my total count to 4634. To be safe, I copied all the songs from my Zen back to a new computer, using Creative MediaSource. After copying over all the files, I then tried a reset of the player, thinking this would delete all the files on the Zen. Instead it did the ?rebuilding library?.<SPAN> When I went back to Settings, About, on the Zen player, it again said there was the ~3750 songs and ~350 albums.<SPAN> So the ?rebuilding library? on my Zen player keeps on removing/hiding my songs and albums.
Since nothing was working, I connected my Zen to my computer again and using the Creative MediaSource deleted all the songs on my Zen player. When I was done it is showing No. of Tracks: 0.<SPAN> Total Memory:<SPAN> 3833MB.<SPAN> Free Memory though is only 8659MB.
There is nothing on my Zen player that I can see. Even using Windows Explorer and Nomad Explorer, it is completely blank.
Someone help please.<SPAN> How do I get back my missing songs and/or reset the player? If at all possible I?d like to get the missing songs off the player since I don?t have those ripped songs on my computer and don?t feel like ripping all those songs again.<SPAN> What is going on?

Are there any third party resellers that are able?to repair it's or it has to be return to Creative support/repairing depot?also how much is it'sgonna charge me for repairing by Creative??Please help me... I love this Creative mp3 player, don't want it just dead like this!!

I dont know maybe your hard dri've died, Try if its possible to update the firmware or reformating to see if it fixes. If anything call Creative if you really like your player you can buy another one or get it fized. Sorry sucks to lose a good MP3 player. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Help!?My Zen Xtra 40 GB freezed when I was deleting a track with the player and I have to unplug the power supply. Then this player stucks in startup screen which displays EAX afterwards. I tried to enter rescure mode followed the instruction, i.e., power off, hold play/pause, press reset with paper clip, but nothing happened. What did I do wrong or what else should I do before I dissamble it and test/replace the hard dri've? Advice is appreciated.Message Edited by hotelcalfornia on 02-4-200609:34 AM

I managed to get the hard dri've out and ran a test with my pc and it turned out that it's OK. Without the hard disk, the player has the same problem, i.e., freezes at the EAX screen. I tried to update a firmware, but the player wont be recognized by the windows. Help, please!

  • Problems downloading between Nomad Zen Xtra 40GB and PC (XP S

    Help please
I've a new Zen Xtra and have installed all the software that came with it and then reinstalled as per the instructions given in another post.
I can see no sign of the drivers under the device driver although, not always, the PC pops up a message saying 'do i want to organise'. I can see my Nomad files in Nomad Explorer and Windows Explorer. i can even, sometimes, after each software reinstallation, even transfer a few, about 0 to 20, files before i get an error message telling me thw player is busy or disconnected. I have left the connection in place overnight but still no celarance.
Any ideas as I really feel like throwing the bloody thing out the window!

    Guys
Thanks for your responses. Sorry I haven't got back - been away a few days.
    Situation is this.
new Nomad Zen Extra and Dell 3000 running XP SP2 52mb ram 40gb dri've.
Loaded software with Nomad and unable to sync or transfer. PC could 'see' nomad and read preloaded files but when any form of transfer tried I either got 'device not connected' or, occasionally, a few files would transfer before 'hanging'. Erroe message stated'device busy or not connected'.
Since then I have followed these instructions given in another reply on this forum to the letter.
<SPAN>Here is a step by step of what I would do to try to get back to square one and get MediaSource and the Driver installed.
    <SPAN>
<SPAN>) Disable any antivirus and background programs on your system and disconnect the Jukebox from USB
<SPAN>2) Go to control panel/add remove programs and remove both Mediasource and the Jukebox Driver
    <SPAN>3) Reboot
<SPAN>4) Ensure AV and BG programs are still disabled
<SPAN>5) Search for any updated Chipset drivers for your motherboard (if you need help with this tell me your computer Mft. or your motherboard mft. and I will find out what you will need) and install them.
    <SPAN>6) Reboot
    <SPAN>7) Repeat step 5
<SPAN>8) Go to www.nomadworld.com and go to downloads/drivers and applications. Select the Jukebox Zen USB 2.0 and your version of Windows. Click get files. Download four files:
    <SPAN>Jukebox Driver version .26.02<SPAN></LI>

    <SPAN>NOMAD JukeBox Type 2 Version .0.03 (English) Web Release<SPAN></LI>
    <SPAN>Creative NOMAD Explorer (Version 3.0.0)<SPAN></LI>
<SPAN>9) While these are downloading, go into rescue mode on the player and run a cleanup. A reload OS will hopefully not be needed.
<SPAN>0) Install the files in the above order. You will plug the Jukebox Zen in at the end of the driver install to complete the install. Leave it connected all the way through the remaining ste
    ps.
Disconnect after the last file is installed.
<SPAN>0) Reboot, reconnect the player and test.

<SPAN>So I think of all the up-to-date firmware etc...
<SPAN>I've also loaded and installed WMP 0 - which can also see the Nomad and has transferred a few files before hanging as above...
<SPAN>I can also see the driver in my device drivers under usb controllers. the driver listed is Creative Labs .26.2.0
<SPAN>I have managed to transfer my tracks (3500+) to the Nomad by burning as MP3 cd's and loading through my works laptop (Win2000). I used the Creative Media Source on the original software which came with the Nomad to do this. This is not a great solution as my company aren't thrilled about such use of their lappies and it only has a 0gb hd and, therefore, doesn't / can't hold my music library.
<SPAN>I really want to get it working properly on my main PC so I can get the max from the Nomad.
    <SPAN>Any ideas?

  • Zen Xtra won't connect to WinXP after firmware and driver upda

I have 40GB Zen Xtra on which I've installed the .20.08 firmware. I've also installed driver update .30.03 on WinXP. Immediately after doing that, my Zen refused to connect to the system. Normally, I'd get the 2-tone "device-connected" alert from the system after plugging it in. Now I get a single tone, repeated 3 times quickly and the Zen is inaccessible. (I do get the normal "device disconnected" sound when I unplug it or power it off). The player works fine, otherwise--I just can't sync it to the library on my PC. Anyone know what's up with this?

Well, that doesn't help. I uninstalled every Creative thing--the driver, MediaSource, etc--restarted the computer and installed the .30.03 version;? no joy, same symptoms. I uninstalled that, restarted? my machine and installed the .20.04c version driver, which seems to be the latest WHCL certified one. No change.
I strongly suspect the firmware now. I'm tempted to "Reload OS" diag option, but if the drivers don't work, I'll be stuck with a completely useless device.

  • My Zen Xtra 40gb stopped on me any help thank

I have the Zen Xtra it feel yesterday (02-7-05) then it was playing fine till today (02-7-05) where it completely froze on me. I have tried the clean up, the format, the rebot of the OS, and the normal rebot. my computer regonizes it but thats about it. I can not get my music files or my data files either. Thank you for your time.

Can you check with a different PC?

  • Creative Zen Xtra 40gb locked in Rescue M

I am having trouble with my Zen Xtra. When I turn it on it goes into recovery mode and I can't get it out. I have tried a reboot and a cleanup, but they are not working. I have also tried a reload but when I select any of the option they don't actually do anything. I can charge the player when I plug it to the main power, and have tried taking out the battery for a ew hours and replacing it. This is not working as every time I turn the player on it goes straight back to rescue mode.
    Can anybody help?

All you can do is run through the advice in the section "My Zen is not behaving properly, won't startup, or goes into rescue mode. What should I do?" of the FAQ. If functions in rescue mode don't work then the player is faulty unfortunately, and you need to contact support.

  • Zen XTRA dead or not? Zombie state or gone forev

I bought thru e*ay a fairly new Zen Xtra. The charger works, the battery is fine. But the turn-on switch produces no display at all. I hear nothing... I can't tell what's wrong, whether it's the hard dri've, the switch, or what...
Any ideas? And has anyone done the hdd switch and gotten this solved? My fear is that with no display, it may be something way more fundamental...

Should have mentioned in my orig. post the obvious: I don't know if it's under warranty and I bought the Xtra "as-is."
If a reset with power connected does nothing, then what? Gi've it up for lost?
