Audigy 2 and inspire 5500

hey there,
i know this isnt strictly about mobo's but i am using a k7n2 one so plz help, lol
ive got an audigy 2 sound card and was wondering what speakers to get. im after a 5.1 set and was thinking of getting creatives inspire 5500. they are digital but is this really going to make a difference. my main use is gaming and listening to music so will the digital set be worth it as the audigy 2 has a dsp on board?
cheers

I just last weekend blew my EV-Sonics and sent them back (again).
I compared sound systems in the stores and found for the money the Logitech Z-560 to be tops.
Just for ha ha's I compared side by side the Logitech
Z-560 4.1 and the Z-680 6.1 speakers and could not justify paying twice for the Z-680 system.
I purchased the Z-560 and use the Audigy 2 platinum with them and I haven't blown them up. Great sound and you can actually turn them up without them going silent suddenly.
http://www.newegg.com has an incredible price on them now but I paid $50.00 more to have them right away.
Your not going to beat that deal anywhere.

  • Decode AC3 Dolby with Audigy ZS or Inspire 5500 digita

Hello, i need your advice, I have Sound Blaster Audigy ZS and Inspire 5500 Digital,
which best to Decode AC3 (6 Channels)
    decode with Audigy or Inspire?
    Thanks

    arturjose,
You should have the sound card bypass the AC3 signal to the speaker for decoding. Remember to also have the DVD software setup to SPDIF bypass the AC3 signal.

  • Audigy Platinum Ex and Inspire Digital 5500 Speak

Having li'ved with my old Cambridge speakers now for about 3 years years I have recently noticed a sound similar to a distant rumble of thunder on the speakers, the longer they are left on the lounder and more frequent the rumble becomes. So, as they are getting on a bit I have decided to invest in a new set of speakers - Creative Inspire Digital 5500's, but they have yet to arri've.
Have I made a mistake in ordering these speakers? I have read several threads that intimate there may be a number of problems/incompatibility issues.
From what I can gather I either have to plug the speakers directly into the Audigy card outputs to retain the software advantages (5. speakers, base, treble and EAX) and then lose the manual ability to control the volume from the supplied Inspire Amp/mixer OR plug the speakers into the Amp/mixer and lose the software control.
My main use for the speakers is listening to music, not really interested in Dolby output or watching DVDs, screen and study too small, but I do occasionally watch a film or TV episode on the PC.
If anyone can either confirm or deny my percieved error in ordering these speakers it would be most appreciated.

    Hi All
Answering my own question for others to find should they have any qualms.
New speakers arri'ved and installed. Connected to PC via coaxial input and work fine on both stereo (front left and right speakers only) and Dolby Pro Logic (all speakers - WOW!!).
Using Audio HQ, supplied with my Audigy software, I can test the speakers but only the front right and left work with the test. However, all work fine with the speaker test from the inspire 5500 remote - so verdict:
I am impressed with the quality, easy set up and sound manipulation. EAX also works fine!

  • 4-pole Minijack-toRCA? (Digitally connect Audigy 2 SZ to Inspire 5500 speakerset)

    Hello forum/Creative,
After searching and searching, I'm just confused. And I'm quite an audiophile and I know quite a lot about cable and connections. I still have a problem getting (Dolby) Digital from my Audigy 2 SZ card, to my Creative 5500 (Digital) speakerset. There's a couple "paradoxes" if you will so I hope someone (of Creative) can explain this to me.Because my situation is different than everything I read before. Now the "problem" is that the 5500 digital speakerset uses an external Dolby Digital decoder that is connected to the subwoofer by a DIN-to-DIN cable. Then there are the 3 minijacks (output) that connect from the decoder to the sub. (This also enable volume control per channel via the external decoder/remote) Then there's a coaxial (digital) input that goes from the decoder to any digital out source, which at first was at the coaxial out of my DVD player, which gave the Dolby Digital 5. channel sound as it should. No problem so far.But then I bought an Audigy 2 SZ card for my pc and the problems is that the Digital Out of this card is not a coaxial one, but a minijack output.Strangly however, the 5500 speakerset includes a minijack-to-rca cable, so I can connect the coaxial input on the decoder to the minijack digital out of the Audigy 2 SZ card. Then I got just front L/R channels. I realized the included cable was a 2-pole minijack, with one ground connection and audiostream (Front L/R) What I need is a 4-pole Minijack-to-RCA (. ground 2. Front L/R 3. Rear L/R 4. Sub/Center) , but I dumbfounded so far and I wonder if this cable even exists. After looking in the manuel again and checking the Creative forum and other audiofora, all I can see is a 4-pole minijack-to-DIN (digital din)Here'smy problem with that:st of all my external decoder is connected to the subwoofer via a DIN-to-DIN cable. So if I would get that 4pole Minijack-to-RCA my external decoder becomes nothing more then a nice piece of decoration. Since power from the sub goes to this decoder via the DIN cable (do I wonder if it's a Digital DIN at all)But since this decoder is also used to control volume (per channel) and has the infrared remote receiver + Dynamic Mode setting which can only be set via the remote, I would loose all these functions?I know the Audigy 2 SZ has it's own Dolby Digital (EX), DTS (ES) etc, but I don't want the soundcard output alone and not use the external decoder (again, since this decoder does more than just decode alone). Now a 4-pole Minijack-to-RCA would solve all these problems and I REALLY hope these exists. (Should be possible at least).Currently I have unplugged the 3 minijacks-to-minijacks from the external decoder and plugged them into my Audigy 2 SZ card for Analog Surround. But it doesn't sound good (well at least compared to real Dolby Digital) and via this setup I lost volume control (per channel) functionallity of the external decoder. So please help me out on this. I would really appreciate it.Regards,Felix.

P.S. The 4pole Minijack-to-RCA I mention is a female RCA connector to accept the male-to-male coaxial RCA cable. I also noticed the Audigy 2SZ Quick start manual states to hook up 5. digital speakers to use a 4pole minijack-to-4pole minijack, but this is impossible since there is only a coaxial input and minijack output. So a minijack-to-minijack cable is completely wrong. After (again) checking my Inspire 5500 user's guide, I noticed ONLY THIS manual has the ONLY correct solution to hook up the set. The aformentioned 4pole minijack-to-RCA (female).Creative, why do you supply a useless 2-pole minijack-to-RCA for the digital connection of the Inspire Dolby Digital 5500 speakerset instead of the 4pole one?I mean, you buy the Dolby Digital set to get real Dolby Digital sound, but to get that from your own Audigy (2 SZ) card, you need another cable!! (and when you get it, the other cable will never be used for anything else, since it can only transfer the Front L/R signal!!

  • Inspire 5500 - Speakers Cut Out?

Hello... I'm using the excellent Inspire 5500 speakers, but occasionally one of the speakers, usually front center, just cuts out. If you pull the power and plug it back in (a simple off/on doesn't work) it'll come back. But sometimes when I turn the system on, or more speakers won't work and I need to unplug it from the mains and plug it back in. Last night, the front left, center and woofer failed to work when I turned them on. 3 plug cycles later they were all kicking again.
Anyone know why this is happening? It's plugged into a fairly new Sony DVD player via the Digital Coaxial input...

    Hi there
The same thing has started happening to me.
When I switch on, the front right speaker does not come on. Only way to get it back on, is unplug the power connector from the back of the decoder and then plug it back in. As you say, a simple switch on/off does nothing.
I've been using this set up with a PC for the best part of two years now and I've changed nothing recently. I've also checked all connections and wires are sound and plugged firmly in.
My guess is that it's something wrong with the amplifier in the sub-woofer. Unless anyone else has any suggestions?

  • XFI Elite Pro to Inspire 5500 speakers, no rear so

I have an xFI Elite Pro and some Inspire 5500 Digital Surround Sound speakers. If I initiate a test from the remote that controls the Speaker's "brain" I get all surround points working just fine, so I know they are connected properly from there. From the "brain" I have the /8th" cable that came with the speakers for a digital connection to a soundcard connected to the flexjack on the back of the soundcard part of the xFI and it is set to Digital I/O. Whenever I initiate a test from the Creative Software, when it says "rear right" and "rear left", it comes out the front speakers. I have the CMSS turned off . I have the decoding turned off on the sound card cause the speakers take care of the decoding. What am I doing wrong? Please help, thanks.

    Well,
I went back to gigabyte.com.tw and this time, there were new BIOS available ... I still don't understand why they weren't there yesterday ..
Anyway, I updated to F6 (latest version) and ... sound is still very low, crappy, crackkkkking and so on ..
I'm gonna throw this through the window :'(

  • Problems setting up a Creative Inspire 5500 Digital 5.1 System

Hello! I've had a problem ever since i've owned my Inspire 5500 Digital system whereby I havent had any functionality from the decoder at all. I have only managed toget it working with my pc however the sound played fine (after a lot of tweaking using the Creative software bundled with my soundcard) however I havent been able to connect any other devices to it, they just dont work! Even playing music on the pc, I cant use the decoder volume control etc. Therefore my dillema is as follows, I have recently built a brand new pc and want to reconnect the Inspire's (correctly this time!), I have the following soundcard: X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Soundcard with the following outputs on the back of the card:
    Line Out (Green)Line Out 2 (Black)Line Out 3 (Orange)Optical
Below is a breakdown of inputs/outputs of the Inspire 5500 Digital hardware: Decoder Audio Outputs Front (Green hole)Rear (Black hole)Center/subwoofer (orange hole) Decoder Audio Inputs Analog Line In CoaxialOptical Other Sockets DIN Now im going to list whats on the back of the subwoofer: Power Supply4 pin AC power input Satellite Speakers Inputs Front left socket for front left speaker Front right socket for front right speakerRear left socket for rear left speakerRear right socket for rear right speakerCenter socket for centre speaker Audio Inputs Front (Green)Black (Rear)Orange (Centre/subwoofer) Other SocketsDIN Now im going to list the leads that I have that came with the set (so in theory there should be sufficient equipment to get decoder functionality): x 4 Pin Mains lead x Line In Cable with the three heads on each end (green, Black and Orange) x DIN Cable x Optical Cable(Obviously all the satellite speakers have their own leads that plug into the corresponding ports on the back of the subwoofer) The last set up, I had the following:
The 4 pin mains lead plugged into the back of the subwoofer (this is correct as this is the only mains input)
Satellites connections into their corresponding holes
The DIN lead connected the woofer to the decoder
the Line-In lead ran from my soundcard to the back of the decoder
Where can I possibly be going wrong? The decoder powered up and played pc music however I couldnt control the volume from the decoder. I tried connecting my ps2 (with optical out enabled in the ps2 settings) with an optical lead running from the back of my ps2 into the optical input on the back of the decoder but it didnt work either!
If anyone could please help and give me a step by step guide to simply putting the right wires in the right places, that would be fantastic. Its really doing my head in!!
    Thanks again!

Try connecting Your three connections fom your sound card (green/black /orange) directly into your subwoofer inputs (green/black/orange), then, of course, your five speakers into the appropriate outputs on your subwoofer. I have the same setup except, I am using the X-FI Elite Pro which has a built in decoder, and I believe yours does too. Now, you can also look at the top of this page and click on "support". then choose "product documentation", then go through the product finder, then click on the download link, and after agreeing to the terms, choose to save the download to a location of your choice on your hard dri've. now if you just click to open the file it might not load properly, so just in case, right click the folder, and choose "Properties", and on the "general" tab click the tab at the bottom that says "Unblock" button, then click OK, this manual will give you every detailed way?to hook up your speaker system. I hope this helped. Good luck!

  • DDTS-100 decoder with Inspire 5500 speakers?

I've been a very content owner of the Creative Inspire 5500 set (decoder and speakers) for two years now, but just recently my decoder has been playing up. I wish to purchase the DDTS-100 decoder and was wondering if I may use the speakers from my present Inspire 5500 set? The speakers are 5.1 - 8W RMS sub, with five 6W satellites. The speakers are similar (if a little less powerful, I think, than those with the Inspire 5700 set. Is this OK? I searched the archives for a mention of people using this set-up, but can't find any posts concerning this. Thanks for any forthcoming help!

    kyle_hunt85,

  • Inspire 5500 with s/pdif

Hello... I am new to this forum as well as to sound related stuffs. After reading through lot of other topics and knowledge base, i have chosen 5.1 Inspire 5500 to go for. I chose this because of the built in decoder coming and low cost. I have recently bought a Lenovo y500 speaker model release in india.. (http://www-8.ibm.com/lenovoinfo/in/y...ce/y500_2.html) (Y500(7766AQ)). So it says the audio out also supports s/pdif. So is this enough to connect to 5500. Or do I need any sound cards.... Also can some one suggest me is there any other alternative at this price .... Note : Audio driver is Realtek HD Audio? Can the speakers be used? with analog systems as well...

I couldn't find anything related to S/PDIF in the link you provided, but your speakers support both coax and optical digital audio. If you know your computer supports S/PDIF, then you're good to go. The computer will have one (if not both) of those connections on it.
The only thing to look out for is a mini optical jack (looks like headphone jack, but isn't) and "mini" coax jacks, which are actual headphone jacks which output a different signal. Either one of those will require an adaptor, but they are easy to find.
You should also be able to use analog. I doubt the computer only has digital connections.

  • Power Supply of Inspire 5500

Hi, I've recently moved to a new house and i don't know how i have lost the power supply of my Inspire 5500.
I've search over inet for a new power supply with no results.
Do creative still distribute this part? If not, what can i do? The power supply is not standar, the connector is like the one in the keyboards and there is two different transformers embbebed in the same case, so the dealer of the electronic shop where i usually buy said my that that is impossible to find.
I don't want to lost my system for that reason, i've thought to build my own adapter, but i don't have any info about the pins in the connector, voltages, etc.
    Could anyone help me?
    Thanks.

Jajaja, I've done something similar, I build my own ps/2 to ps/2 wire with a utp 8 wires wire.
For the power supply i took another option, directly to the pc power supply . It's sounds crazy but it works great.
It's supposed that you ned 2 v AC (5 Amp and 400mA or something similar, :P), but i've read on the net that most of the equipments that ask for AC voltage have inside a "rectifier" (don't know how to translate from spanish, :P) that take the AC signal into DC. I've also read that there's no problem using 2V DC because if the signal in the input of the "rectifier" is the DC it only lets the signal pass trough. I've check by myself and it works great, .
I've now it connected to a separated power supply from my pc, only for safety (I don't want to take risk for using this kind of equipment in my main power supply).
I hope that if there's another person with the same problem than us read this, :P.

  • Sound Blaster Audigy and STAL

I've got the following problem. In game called "S. T.A.L.K.E.R" i can hear very lound sounds of shooting and very silence people conversations.
I've got "Sound Blaster Audigy" and Creative Speakers.

    Hi,
    There are several choices if it comes to Audigy (emu0kx) drivers;
    First you can use the last official Creative Labs' driver for the Audigy series which you can download on the official driver download site here at Creative Labs' site, but you will loose a lot of apps/softwares, but it should work;
The second one would be the mentioned Daniel_K's driverpack 3.8 for the Audigy series which works pretty good, although I dislike the individual installers/uninstallers for each applications which makes uninstallation of the driver very annoying.
The third one would be the Project KX driver which is very light in size but very powerful, especially for recording and other music related purposes. There's a learning curve since it really looks different (interfaces for example), but once you have found out how the KX driver works you will be happy you own an genuine Audigy emu0kx soundcard.

  • Soundblaster Audigy and Windows

I've just installed Windows XP on a new hard dri've. I'm running an older computer with a 700mhz Celeron processor with an Audigy soundcard. On Windows ME it worked fine, but since upgrading, sounds work fine, but when I try playing music of any kind it locks my machine up so bad I have to shut it down manually. I've tried reinstalling Windows and the soundcard drivers, and nothing works. Is there a known issue with the Audigy and Windows XP?
I'm greatful for anything you can tell me, I'm at a loss.
    Thank you

    Why bother with Microsoft?
They didn't even add in 6. in Windows XP
    Seriously, use Creative Speaker Settings.

  • Audigy and ddts-

After i opened the box today and hooked up the ddts to my promedia 5. ultras....i was very happy. I am running my ps2 into it with a toslink, and it sounds great. I have a audigy regular (mp3 or gamer), and the only setup I can get to work with it is with the digital coax and the converter to /8, HOWEVER, when using the digital coax i do NOT have the option of anything but stereo! I got the ddts mainly for up-mixing my mp3s. Can you get anything else (ie prologic, or neo6? is there a better way to hook them up? I tried using an old cable i had laying around from an old minidisk player that has one side /8th and the other toslink, however I'm not sure if it even works correctly in this application. I tried hooking up from the audigy to the ddts with a /8th to rca, and could not get any sound, except for some buzzing in the center channel. I also recieved today my creative audigy 2 zs notebook, however my dell inspiron 9200 wont get here for a few days . Will I have similiar problems with this? If it turns out my toslink to /8th cable is faulty my plan was to go buy a toslink cable and the /8th converter and use it that way. Will that work properly with my new notebook and/or my current desktop? My goal was to have all three components (ps2, notebook, desktop) hooked up digitally (I love anything and everything 5., including my mp3s). Should I be having this problem with my audigy and the digital coax? Should the /8th to rca work?
    Thanks a lot,
    Mike

Analog output on the soundcard --> DDTS-100 switchbox
    Switchbox --> DDTS-100 main unit
    Switchbox --> Speakers
Digital out on the soundcard --> Coaxial input on the DDTS-100 main unit
The digital output on the soundblaster can ONLY SEND OUT EITHER A PCM STEREO SIGNAL OR AN ENCODED DATA STREAM (AC-3). In order to make the DDTS-100 decode the data stream correctly you MUST have the software set to SPDIF passthrough and also have that set in the Audio HQ or the Audio console. Put the switchbox to decoder mode. The only way to light up the lights of the DTS and Dolby Digital is to feed the main unit with an encoded data stream of those sound formats. If you try to play anything and put it through the digital out that is not DTS or DD you are going to get... Stereo.
In order to get sound from the side speakers you must first set the switch on the back of the DDTS-100 main unit to 6.1/7.1 and set the upmix to 5.1-->7.1 or 6.1-->7.1 (depending on the source) on the main volume controller of the S750.
