Audigy 2 Platinum EX system Hang probl

A couple of weeks ago, I purchased this card though a creative labs ebay auction. I'm still working on the card and trying to get it to work. What happens is that it randomly locks the system whenever I do anything that involves sound. Sometimes I can go an hour of playing a game. Sometimes I can go 5 minutes. Sometimes it just freezes whenever I open the Creative Mixer. I've narrowed it down to most likely being a software issue. I tried a couple of days ago installing just the drivers from the CD. I played mp3s continuosly for 2 days with no locku
ps.
Today I reinstalled the creative surround mixer and BLAMO, the problems are back.
Here's the stuff I've tried:
. Tried it in every pci slot.
2. Tried every pci slot twice and made sure it was seated correctly.
3. Did a clean sweep between each reinstallation.
4. Manually set the irq in the BIOS.
5. Disabled the Audigy and enabled the onboard sound. The onboard sound did not lock up what-so-ever.
6. Disabled the onboard sound (it was only enabled for that one test...otherwise it had been disabled for several months). Anyway, enabled the audigy drivers.
7. Install one piece of the audigy software at a time. This seems to have worked. Too bad that the only piece I can install is the drivers.
8. Oh, and I also tried a 450 PSU because I initially thought it was a power issue.
Are there any known issues with this card? Does it really not get a long with any types of hardware? Are there any known issues with some of the creative software, mainly the creative mixer?
Here's my system rundown:
MSI KT3 Ultra 2 Motherboard
Via KT333 chipset
Athlon XP 900+
52MB Micron PC2700
Geforce Ti4200 w/ 64MB DDR
400W PSU
6X DVD-ROM
48x2x48 CD
2 Western Digital Hard dri'ves
Linksys NIC

I have a simular problem. On the first boot of the day my system will freeze, could be 2sec in, or 2 hours. Once i restart it runds like a dream. Now confirmed it is soundcard drivers by process of elimination. What drivers did you install to get it working without the freezing?

Hello. I have had an Audigy 2 Platinum for over a year now and use it as a decoder for our pioneer stand alone dvd player.Speakers are Megaworks 550. The problem is the audio lags behind the video after an hour or so into the movie. The souncard is in its own irq 8 with no conflicts. The latest drivers and software are installed and the same with xp pro service pack 4.Any idea how to resolve this for the only fix now is to stop and restart the player or toggle between spdif ac3 decode and default i audio hq. Im getting fed up with this and will just get a regular reciever and speakers if it cannot be resolved . Thanks in advance.
Bug

I came here looking for this exact problem. However mine is NEVER in sync when I use the SPDIF mode. As soon as I turn it to normal stereo it works fine. In a related issue, the sound playback of any DVD is about half of everything else on my system. I have to turn up the volume to about 80% to hear a DVD at a listenable level whereas normal volume for me is at 40%.
My stats are as follows: P4 3.2c, Abit IC7-G, 2GB DDR PC3200, Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, BFG 6800GT OC, XP Home SP2, and the Nvidia DVD Decoder. Everything is running the latest drivers. The volume problem has been happening ever since I purchased this ZS. I never had the problem with my older Audigy 2. The SPDIF issue is new to me since I have only recently been using it. Any ideas?

• Audigy 2 Platinum probl

I have Audigy 2 Platinum up to date with drivers and software. Running a XPsp2 pentium 4 2.4 pc. I have suddenly developed a problem. It appears to be able to play audio with media player but I can not get any audio from aux input. I have checked the mixer to make sure it is not muted and ran diagnostics which says everything is ok. Also my remote control does not seem to work. It doesn't show up on installed software list but is shown to have been installed in log. Next my midi input is not recognized. And last, there is no speaker option in speaker configuration drop down list. I can run a test on the speakers and get audio though. I have no clue where to begin. Reinstall? The only recent change to my pc was a update of my zonealarm firewall.

• Audigy 2 Platinum Front Panel Probl

Hello everyone. Thank you in advance for any help.
My problem is two-fold, let me begin with the first issues.
Critical Issue One: On my Audigy 2 Platinum neither the headphone jack nor the Line 2 in/Mic 2 in jacks appear to be at all functional. I can get no sound to go in or come out using them. Additionally, I don't see a volume slider to control either of them in the surround mixer. Is it possible somehow that the entire front panel is disabled? I looked inside my computer and it appears to be connected firmly (the AD_EXT cable is the only one connecting my sound card to anything internally). As a side note I have already tried doing a full, clean reinstall of the drivers, to no avail.
Issue Two: I can no longer auto update my drivers using Creative's site. I believe this is somehow related to IE7, it always functioned perfectly with IE6. When I try to update now the message I get is: "Some components are corrupted." I did a search in the knowledge base and followed the instructions to fix this problem (Deleting the Acti've X controls) but this does not resolve the issue (I also noticed by searching the forums that people with similar problems never found a resolution beyond "doing a manual driver install"). I believe that the acti've x controls that I am downloading get corrupted each time. Is it possible that someone could send me, fully functional non corrupted creative acti've x controls that I could install? Or is this simply an incompatibility between the creative site and IE7?

• Audigy 2 Platinum Pro remote probl

I was looking over to my Audigy 2 Platinum Pro today and noticed that the remote light is flashing wildly, and I'm not sure why, as I haven't noticed it doing this before. The remote works if you click it, and I even removed the battery to see if the flashing would stop, but still no go. What's the deal?

Tkzoo,
Check your connections to the Audigy card. It may be that the cables aren't all the way in on either side. Is there anything else in the room that might be emitting a IR signal? This could cause the light to blink also.

• Midi ports line in ports Fire Wire etc on the Audigy 2 platinum, new Creative Driver for Vis

Hi, I have been using my Audigy 2 platinum dri've for a few years now and have been very pleased with it, the main things I do on my pc is music creation mainly Midi but also some analogue audio as well, I also do lots of video making. I am just about to build a new system with Vista ultimate as the platform, I currently use XP Pro. I have little use for Creative?s own software and personally I do not think it is that good, I know Creative have released a new driver for my sound card But, my question is will my Midi port connections and things like my line in and the auxiliary ports and the fire wire port on the front platinum panel work with this new driver, and without the Creative software installed on my pc, and as we all no by now it looks like we will not be seeing any at all, or not for ages yet. you see I am a wheelchair user and I can not readily fiddly about a the back of my pc that is why a bought the sound blaster so I can easily plug in and unplug what I like, can anyone give me some help or advice on this issue please. ??

Guess I wasn't clear enough. I have uninstalled the soundcard and reinstalled over a dozen times even going so far as making sure all the drivers that the device properties lists are really deleted from the system. I have resinstalled DirectX at least twice using the latest version from MS. The only thing I have not done with DirectX so far is installed the SDK version which I will be doing eventually anyway. I even uninstalled and then reinstalled my video card as it shared files with the sound card. As for getting the latest version of openAL I see little point in that as Windows forces openAL through DirectX anyway and none of my games use it. Nor does the device depend on it to work. Any other suggestions?

• Getting Audigy Ex Platinum back into Digital out mo

OK, I rebuilt my computer this weekend, and one problem remains. Everything worked fine before with my Audigy and Klipsch 5. system, running in digital mode. Everything is installed (physically) the exact same. I CANNOT for the life of me get the audigy into Digital Output mode again
!!! I read this KB article and know this is exactly my problem:http://dmzweb3.europe.creative.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=885,E=000000000066343529,K=27,Sxi=8,Case=obj(3 062),Kb=ww_english_add,VARSET=ws:http://us.creative.com/?I lost the original CD's that came with the card and nowhere in the current stuff is there a digital option I can find in the current driver. This is an older Audigy Platinum Ex. Specifically I need the software pictured in THIS picture (note the red circle):[img"]http://dmzweb3.europe.creative.com/wwimages/audio_int/audigy/spkr_settings4.gif">?But I cannot find it anywhere on the download section. If anybody knows where I can find it, or what to look for, I would greatly appreciate an assist.

• Audigy 2 Platinum Front Panel Connecti

I recently began recording my band in our home studio. My mixing board is a Midas Venice 240 which has two balanced XLR outputs from the master bus. I am wondering what method I may use to connect this output to the /4" stereo input on the front panel of the Audigy 2 Platinum. If I just purchase a Y-adapter to combine the two channels into one XLR and then convert it to /4" TRS jack will both channels be preserved? Are there any sound quality issues that arise from this method of connection? I was hoping to get answers to these questions before wasting money buying unnecessary adapters.
Thanks

The BEST way to do this is to go to radio shack and buy two (yes 2) of their?XLR to /4" Impedence Matching Transformers, AND?one (yes )?dual /4" female TS (tip-sleeve) to single /4" male TRS (tip-ring-sleeve) "Y" cable. Unless your mixer also has /4" main outs as well as the XLR... then you can just use the Y cable and skip the transformers. Or you can use a /8" Y cable with the transformers (and stereo /4 to stereo /8 adapter) and go into the card's line in jack on the actual card. Which is how I did it for a year or more untill i got a firewire recording interface (and it worked darn good too with my Soundcraft mixer and some good microphones). Either way,?you need the transformers for optimal results. The reason is the mixer's output impedence and level doesnt match that of the soundcard's input... mixer will likely overdri've the card, or the signal will sound weak or noisy.. The transformers?are cheap and are darn handy for loads of recording functions, and will provide the Audigy with exactly the type of signal it needs, properly transformed from the mixer. If you do this, you can record ALL of the mixer channels IN STEREO with all the panning, effects, and levels preserved. If you have multitracking software like Cubase or similar, you can even record an individual instrument (or even 2 at once, one panned left, one right... each assigned its own track in your software), come back on a new track (or pair of tracks), and record a different instrumet (or 2) and build a multitrack recording one performance at a time. PS:? you CANNOT just hardwire the mixer outputs and combine them into a single channel. A mixer is needed to properly combine?signals. Don't do it
!!! Have fun... and rock on.PSS:? make sure your overall cable is as short as possible. If you must run it for more than 6 feet then run it in XLR mode and convert it very close to the computer. The non XLR section of cable is an antenna for noise. The XLR section will be shielded against noise. Also, the transformers are kinda heavy so do not plug them into somthing and allow them to hang in the plug becasue the hanging weight will ruin your jack. Its best to run cables to the transformers, allowing them to lay on the floor... in a safe place where they wont get stomped on.

• Audigy 2 Platinum finally qu

After following the FAQ, searching the forum, reading the book, seeing the movie and buying the action figure line, I thought I'd jump into the fray with my own problem.
I have been installing/using/troubleshooting Creative cards for well over a decade, many in a QA/Tech Support/Lab environment, and have never had any serious problems. I am now a professional voice-over actor and audio drama director, and the Audigy 2 Platinum in conjunction with a Behrenger mixing board has been working wonderfully under winXP for years now. No clicks, pops, whines, whatever. Great surround, and excellent soundfont output and recording quality (plus all the games I play) have made it my workhorse.
I upgraded my Power Supply Unit from a 480w to a modular 650w this weekend. No other changes to the system, a simple swap. On restart, I have minimal output to my speakers, and can hear low, quiet sound only if I max the Main and Wave volumes and max the speakers. Sound loss is equal on every channel on a 5. system.
I get perfect sound out of the headphone jack on the front I/O unit.
Here is what I have tried:
Everything in the FAQ
Uninstalling/reinstalling all hardware and drivers in Normal and Safe mode
Reinstalling latest drivers
Reinstalling original release drivers
Reinstalling to a new PCI slot
Different speakers
Running without I/O unit plugged in (though it works fine)
Running with 2.0 speakers and settings
Checked that Digital was off, etc.
I'm not looking forward to the time and expense of replacing the unit (plus Creative has ditched the rockin' FireWire ports on newer models). You all seem to be having a number of difficulties with the X-Fi units, and I don't want to risk that.
I know from my search that topics of this nature don't really get much of a response, but any ideas?

• Can Audigy 2 Platinum front panel connect to X-fi?

Hi,
I'm about to build a new i7?system and am debating buying an X-Fi Titanium (non-fatality)?to replace my Audigy 2 Platinum. Is it possible to connect the front dri've bay from the platinum to the X-Fi card? If not, I'm wondering if it is worth the switch. I'm not keen on paying any more than the price of the standard titanium card, so am not looking at the pro, etc.
I'd appreciate any thoughts. Thanks!

Oh well, it is already ordered. It is rather absurd in this day and age that Ceati've charges 00 plus dollars premium?for such simple functionaility. Even M-Audio seems to provide better connectivity solutions on its low end interfaces. I have one of those. Guess I can just get an RCA to /4 inch or XLR adaper.
Still looking forward to the X-fi, though,

Dear Martin
Thanks for your reply
I am sorry for the problem you are facing.
To achieve outputs from all the speaker during speaker test, you will need to have an analog connection, or digital DIN connection.
That will be possible if you connect the three line out jacks on your soundcard, to the three audio input (analog jacks->green,black,orange) on your speaker, if it has this connection. Or, you may connect them using Digital DIN, if they have this connection.
If you are using digital connection (coaxial, optical), there will be no way to achieve sound output from all the speakers during 5. speaker test, as they carry stereo signal.

Dear Martin
Thanks for your reply
Your soundcard is Audigy 2 ZS
Your speaker is Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500
You will need to have a 3:3 cable(with the color green, black, orange)
to connect your soundcard to your speaker, to achieve the 5. effects
with games.
Below is the connection:
- Connect line out jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Front' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the green color
connection
- Connect line out 2 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Rear' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the black color
connection
- Connect line out 3 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Center/Subwoofer' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the
orange color connection
Once you have done the correct connection, play the game DOOM3.
Ensure you have selected either the EAX or surround option in the game
settings.
Does it work?

Thanks for your reply
All commercial digital connection eg. optical or coaxial cable will only
carry PCM stereo signal. If you want to output the signal to a surround
5. with extra EAX environment effects, it will not be possible at all
since it is only restricted to stereo channel signal.
As per current industry limitations, we are bound to follow the standard
one-signal output for all our SPDIF and Optical output jacks. This is
something that is currently shared by all vendors for all products.
Please note that all games are not dolby digital, even they are , it
will require certain motherboard to encode it to dolby digital signal,
which our soundcard does not support.
You can only use analog connections to gain true 5. surround for
gaming..

Subject: RE: CLE - Technical Support Request (KMM8875697I6636L0KM)
Dear Martin
Thank you for the reply.
Computer games written with support for 3D audio do not require a Dolby
Digital Interacti've Content Encoder (DICE) to output multichannel sound,
with no exceptions. Sound devices that support the real time encoder
technology from Dolby will simply receive the multichannel wave file
output and encode it in real time to a somewhat modified Dolby Digital
bitstream. Creative does not support the Dolby Digital Interacti've
Content Encoder on any of its sound cards.
The only difference between a Sound Blaster card and an audio card that
has a real time encoder, is that you can make a one-wire, digital
connection from your audio card to your home theater receiver and enjoy
discrete multichannel sound from the game. However there will be a
continuous, slight delay, known as "latency", as the encoder is creating
and transmitting the bitstream, and of course the compression scheme
being used is "lossy" (i.e. not bit-accurate).
If you want to enjoy 3D audio in 3D enabled PC games in multichannel
surround sound with a Sound Blaster card, it is recommended that you
connect the analog outputs of the sound card directly to the analog
inputs of the receiver. This will require 3 cables for 5. surround
sound, one for front right and left, one for rear left and right, and
another one for front center and subwoofer. Though it requires more
cables than a real time encoder system, it will not have any latency
issues. When connecting PC audio to a home theater receiver, Creative's
latest sound cards such as Sound Blaster Audigy, Sound Blaster Audigy 2
are likely to provide higher quality audio than any Dolby Digital real
time encode system available for the PC today.
Please retain all the previous correspondence when replying to this

public would understand
I downloaded your TEST Movies and creative demo player utility, ran it
but
still no EAX HD or DD if that were present.
I want to put this card and Processor into my boys computer (which is
the
same Spec as mine and I will update to the FX series, but I am unwilling
if
I cannot find a logical reason why this set-up cannot work first.
Would it have anything to do with the pins on the Digital out on the
sound
card plug, the one I bought and was attached to the last email? Only
sending
certain channels down to the processor?
Regards
Martin

Dear Martin
Thanks for your reply
Your speakers are fine as you mentioned that there is sound from all the
speakers when you are playing movie.
May i know what game are you playing when there are no sound from the
rear speakers?
Have you done the appropriate settings in the game to achieve the 5.
sound?
Is there any game patches that you will need to update?
Does the Dolby Digital LED light up when you are playing the game?
Please retain all the previous correspondence when replying to this

Attached is the creative view of the controls menu and I have attached

As I said, I can now hear DD5. while within a movie from ALL speakers
BUT
no sound from rears during IN GAME DD5.
I do not use this PC for films only games.

If you are having a digital connection, it is normal for only get only
front left/right is you use the speaker test option.
http://us.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=3&sid=4858
Speaker test only outputs from two front speakers?
You mentioned that that you are unable to get any sound from the rear
speakers when playing game right? May i know are you using a digital
connection? May i know what speaker settings have been made under
Creative Speaker settings?
Do get back to me on the above.
Thanks

Memory: Gig DDR 4
BIOS Type/Revision: 5. 39

Detailed Problem Description:
I have the above Sound card.
I also own Inspire 5. amp/processor
I Wanted to save money by connecting above sound
card to amp/processor
Connections on sound card made life very difficult
I contacted Creative for help. you told me to buy
an RCA to mini jack cord which also has other connections, from your
web site, (I tried to find
the product number for you, but your sub-menu
system is so poor I couldn't locate the RCA/mini
3.5 /to phono link for you) this cord connects
directly into the digital in, on the sound card (3.5 Mini jack) to the
coaxial input on the
inspire 5. amp/processor.
I have enabled ALL sp-diff settings and digital in
setting on every program/utility/kitchen sink and all.
I have an SP-Diff wire from DVD burner to creative
sound card, and yes its enabled and digital only
is selected.
I can play a DVD and see the inspire 5.
automatically change from Pro-logic to Dolby
digital when it See's an AC-3 stream.
when I try and play ANY game you say has EAX
,2,3,4 I cannot get any sound from my rear
speakers (see above in Dolby Digital ALL speakers
work correctly)
when I enter the set-up menu within the creative
software you supply with the sound card and select
5. speaker, digital only, test the speakers via
the white noise function, all i hear is left and
right noise. no centre, no rears.
I phoned you tech support line, the boy on the
phone didn't have much of a clue about your
product and I had to tell him what connections sit
on the inspire 5. series amp/processor.
I want to build another PC for my son, I want to
add the FX series sound card and amp, but i am not
willing to buy anything until i feel you have
helped me to solve this problem first.
please can you help, I am at the end of my tether
with this sound card.
kind regards

• Audigy zs platinum sound prob

hi guys!
just upgraded to windows vista (32bit), and having huge problems with this sound card (sb0230, audigy zs platinum).
firsly I installed the complete drivers (around 65MB) from creative site and the sound was chopping/cracking/clicking (whatever that mean in english, **bleep**ty we would say here) when i would scroll an internet page or scroll text in word or scroll files in my computer.it even slows down a bit when scrolling. if you need to hear it, i'll post it to youtube.
then i installed the latest beta drivers (-35mb) and no change. then i installed the daniel k. drivers and again no change.
the onboard realtek soundcard works perfectly but has lower sound quality (too low for me).
the system is gigabyte ga73pvm-s2 with intel E6600, 2 gb ddr800 ram, nvidia 8500gt graphic card. the analog sound output (stereo) is connected to my cambridge audio 640a amplifier , not some crap desktop speakers.
while using windows xp there was not this problem. now using windows vista ultimate and have this huge problem.
please help me, what to do?

yingying,
Have you tried uninstalling it in SafeMode?

• Audigy 2 Platinum random rebo

I got the Audigy 2 Platinum shortly after it was originally released. It worked for several months beautifully, then started randomly blue screening and making a terribly high-pitched noise before rebooting itself. I tried different pci slots and it kept doing it whether I was playing games or typing a paper.
Eventually, I built a new computer with a new motherboard and figured that would cure the problem. It didn't take long before the reboots started. This time I assumed it was actually the card to blame. I found a replacment platinum card on Creative's Ebay Store and installed it only to still suffer from the same problem.
I have the latest drivers and latest software via this site's support links.
If anybody could share any light on this matter, I'd deeply appreciate it as my onboard sound is nothing compared to the brilliance of the Audigy 2 Platinum.
My system in a nutshell:
MSI Neo4-F
AMD 64 3000+
Connect3d X800XL PCI-E
Soundblaster Audigy 2 Platinum
2 x 200GB SATA HD
024MB OCZ Platinum Revision 2 (2-2-2-5)
Also, I've disabled onboard sound but the problem still occurs.Message Edited by gillbell on 2-3-2005 0:6 PM

• SB Audigy 2 Platinum eX hardware not detec

My audigy 2 platinum ex isn't workIng properly. I have 6. creative speakers. I moved my computer for a LAN party and when i set it up (with only 2 speakers and the subwoofer and the external module) and turned on my computer I noticed that the sound wasnt right. So I ran through the speaker test and the left speaker wasnt working right. so I checked the connections and noticed that I plugged the left speaker into the center port on the subwoofer. so I swithced them and when I ran through the test again nothing came out of the speakers. so I went through the creative diagnostic and the hardware detection failed. so clicked begin the fix and it told me to remove the sound card from the pci slot and put it back in. so I did that with no problems and restarted my computer. still no sound. so I replaced the sound card again with no problems and I started my computer. still no sound. so I uninstalled the drivers, replaced the sound card again with no problems, and sarted up and reinstalled the drivers and restarted and still no sound. if it matters my computer was in hibernate when I moved it and creative mediasource was running. I havent been able to find anything in the knowledge base and nothing I have tried works. also when I click any sound media it says something like cannot locate the media file requested. also none of the things on the creative mediasource go panel works with the error message something like no sound blaster hardware detected this program will now exit all with the exception of the creative diagnostic thing.
I'm angry that it doesnt work (for $250), and I really want this fixed right away. any help would be appreciated.

768mb pc200 ram
MSI MS-6577 Rev mobo
ASUS GeForce FX5700 256mb

tmecca,
I'd like to check for me if the card is listed correctly in the Device Manager. You didn't mention which Operating System you're using, but presuming it's WindowsXP, you go to Control Panel > System > Hardware. See if the card is listed with the correct name, and no error codes.
<FONT color=#3333ff>"if it matters my computer was in hibernate when I moved it and creative mediasource was running."
Do you mean that you moved the card while the PC was in hibernate (so it would be have been turned on and running)?
Try a Cleansweep on the system, removing all the drivers and software and fully reinstalling the card (as new). More details are on this page:
