Audigy 2 ZS - 2 channels Digital

Hi,
I'm sure this question has been asked before, but I couldn't find it here so -
My problem is not getting 6 channel non-decoded digital (5.) out the plain Audigy 2 ZS. I have hooked up a gold male MONO mini-plug to the card's digital out port, and connected a Monster Digital Coax cable with RCA plugs on both ends to both the mini plug and to my speaker system decoder. My speaker system is the Logitech A-680, which has a built-in digital decoder. I have followed these instructions on Logitech's website TO THE LETTER:
http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/prnt_adp.php?p_faqid=262&p_created=085427288&p_sid =OoA*8Mqh
Meaning, I selected "SPDIF Passthrough" in Audio HQ, 5. in Speaker setup, Synchronize with Control Panel, Digital output only, Reboot. No dice. I am STILL getting ONLY 2 channels out of the card in digital. I have changed these settings and changed them back to make sure they "stuck", and I have re-done this sequence 6-7 times. Nothing I have done has altered my output.
Any further advice would be greatly appreciated - I *REALLY* want to get 6 channel non-decoded digital output from this card!!
Thnks a lot, Ken

Ok, I've been at this ALL day and I FINALLY got things set up as best they can be (as far as I know).
Here's what I've found, and my opinions concerning the optimum settings:
.You CAN and SHOULD have both the analog and digital connections hooked up between the sound card and the Z-680 pod. The digital out of the Audigy 2 ZS takes a male 3.5 mm (MONO/STEREO no diff) mini-plug with a female RCA port built into its other end. Then you need a dual male RCA plug digital Coax cable to plug into the mini plug and into the back of the Z-680 pod.
2. Logitech has a good Information page on selecting "SPDIF Passthrough" here:
http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/logitech_en_amr.cfg/php/enduser/prnt_adp.php?p_faqid=262&p_created=085427288&p_sid =OoA*8Mqh
Once you've bypassed the Audigy's decoder, just leave it that way for both digital and analog playback. One thing I disagree with on this info page and KNOW you don't have to do is select "Digital output only". Doing so will PREVENT you from using the analog outputs without de-selecting the "Digital output only" box again. Why switch these back and forth when you don't have to You just select Direct Input on the pod when you want analog, and Coax input on the pod when you want digital.
3. Why would you want analog too? My opinion is that the sound quality from stereo sources (audio CD, wav, mp3, etc) is BEST in analog 6 CH Direct, with CMSS Enabled (CMSS 2) in the Audigy EAX Control Panel. If you know of a better setting, please post it but I've tried dozens of combinations and NOTHING digital will beat that setting for me with two channel sources. Don't forget to Enable and set your equalizer too, as that will further customize your sound.
4. When testing your speakers in Analog Speaker Setup, with the pod in 6 Ch Direct, you will get true 6 channel sounds. Each channel will be announced in each speaker individually. When testing the Digital Speaker Setup with the pod in Coax, you will hear each speaker being announced, but it's really only a 2 channel sound source audible in more than just the target speaker. Don't worry about that - I lost a LOT of time trying to troubleshoot further and get discrete sounds from each channel in Digital Speaker Setup. It will work FINE with a true digital 5. channel signal.
5. When playing a DVD, you will most likely have to tinker with your player's menu settings to get your 5. digital signal. I use WinDVD, and the setting that made MY day was in the Properties menu choice, Audio tab, select "Enable SPDIF throughput". This option had been greyed out prior to my selecting "SPDIF Passthrough" in the Audigy HQ Panel. You then will most likely have to go back to the MOVIE menu and re-select 5. Dolby digital, which you now can get. Once you do this, the pod's readout changes from "PL2 Movie" to "Digital", and you're home free! What an AWESOME improvement in the quality and it's reinforced my decision to choose these two products.
6. I don't have much experience with games yet with this setup, but my initial impression with Call of Duty and UT2004 is that analog 6 Ch Direct sounded much better. It may be game dependant, and some games may support 5. digital but from what I've read on these forums the analog EAX standard is supposed to be better quality sound than Dolby digital anyway. Another reason to use BOTH outputs.
Hope this helps some others, I had an unnecessarily long and frustrating day! Happy now though hehe

• Decode AC3 Dolby with Audigy ZS or Inspire 5500 digita

Hello, i need your advice, I have Sound Blaster Audigy ZS and Inspire 5500 Digital,
which best to Decode AC3 (6 Channels)
decode with Audigy or Inspire?
Thanks

arturjose,
You should have the sound card bypass the AC3 signal to the speaker for decoding. Remember to also have the DVD software setup to SPDIF bypass the AC3 signal.

• Tektronix 2012B two channel digital through the USB

I am programming by LabVIEW 8.2 constructing a front panel VI for the tektronix 2012B two channel digital sending data from the scope to a PC using the command WFMPre , so im wondering if you have any program similar to get the Y offset and X increment in seconds per point .

Hello Lakazo,
Dennis has kindly linked the required drivers, you will need to download and install these driver to be able to use labview 8.2 to communicate with your device. After you install these drivers, open up the tktds 1k2k library. This should be found in the LabVIEW 8.2\instr.lib\tktds1k2k folder.
Open the block diagram of the tktds 1k2k VI Tree.vi and you will see all the vi's available for your device.
To set the vertical offset you can use the tktds1k2k Configure Channel.vi
To retrieve the x increment there exist a couple of vi's to use including the tktds 1k2k Read Waveform.vi and tktds Fetch Waveform.vi
The context help (Control+H) contains documentation that will assist you in selected the right vi to you for your particular application.
I hope this answers your question?

• Audigy 2 ZS and external digital mixer and digital cd pla

Guru's,
I've got a problem getting a sound from my Audigy 2 ZS card in combination with an external digital mixer and a digital cd player. One channel of the mixer receives data from the PC (Audigy 2 ZS) and one channel receives data from the CD player. The mixer is connected to a dolby surround system- dvd player that connected to the speakers. When I try the digital out I don't get any sound, when I use one of the analog ports I do get a sound. What is here the ideal set-up and why can't I use the digital out ?

Do you mean, you do not get digital out from Audigy?
If yes, then have you set Audigy for digital output?

• Fast multi-channel digital to analog converter

Hello,
I’m a PhD student working in a mechanics laboratory in France (LMT Cachan) and one of the goals of my thesis is to control a hydraulic testing machine using digital image correlation techniques. In order to do this, I need to take a photo of a sample, process it, extract 4 parameters and send them to the testing machine. This process needs to be repeated at a frequency of approximately 80Hz. We need a device to send these values from a Linux computer to the 4 analog entries of the machine (0-10V, 0.5 mA) by coaxial BNC cable. We managed to do this for one channel using an USB connected oscilloscope by sending a continuous current by changing the offset using C++. The problem is that this solution is too slow and has only one channel.
For this we would need a device that has a viable and fast connection (Ethernet, PCI, even USB if recommended) that can send data from a Linux computer (ideally using C++) with a latency of around 1ms, frequency of at least 100Hz, precision of 0.1% and on 4 synchronized analog outputs. Given that I am not particularly specialized in the field of electronics, researching such a device among the large quantity of items produced by your firm proves to be a difficult task.
I would like to know if you have a product that fits our needs and if similar purpose programming has already been done (or could easily be done) to send data from a linux computer to analog outputs (using C++ ideally).
Best regards,

• Audigy 2 Value left channel stopped working *complete

Sony Vaio pcv-rs530
P4 3.2 Ghz
Gb Ram
All-In-Wonder ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 28mb
Windows XP Home Edition v02' Service Pack 2
Logitech Z-5300e 5. Speaker system
I've had my audigy 2 value for about two months now. I managed to install it after a huge adventure of wiping my c: dri've after my first failed installation which ended me with no sound and no hope of restoring it back to normal, except the wipe, of course. It worked for a while, two months, but then I was having issues with my video card, possibly due to overheating because my audigy 2 value was one empty slot away from it and the circulation of air was not enough to keep it cool.
I stopped getting video related crashes after I put my sound card to the last slot, effecti'vely taking out my fax/modem, which I never used in the first place, in order to put the audigy 2 in the last slot, farthest away from my ATI AIW Radeon 9800 Pro. That little modem was blocking the last slot, making it impossible to put my sound card there. Then I noticed a few days later that my front left speaker was not working. I switched the speakers around, and everything worked except for the speaker plugged into the green line ouput, more specifically, the left front speaker never worked.
I'm currently using Logitech's z-5300e 5. speakers system, and they worked fine up until recently where the front left channel will not work. I tested it out on my xbox, and the speakers work fine. Both left and right speakers were okay. I took out my old desktop speakers that came with my vaio and plugged it into the green line output, and even then the left speaker didn't work. The same thing happened when I plugged my headphones in. The left earphone never worked. Both the old and new speakers and the headphones work properly otherwise (when not plugged into the audigy 2). I'm thinking my line output left channel has stopped working on the sound card itself.
I noticed that if I pushed the speaker plug into the outlet halfway, the front left speaker worked, but when I tested the calibration -- the voice matching said "front right" through the front left speaker. Even with all the speakers connected in any configuration, there was never a mention of a "front left" speaker. I concluded that the front left channel on the audigy 2 has stopped working.
Is this assumption correct? If so, wow. How would I go about fixing this? Does it have something to do with the slot switching? I reinstalled the drivers and programs for the audigy 2 after I switched. Although it did not seem to have a problem with me switching the slots even when I didn't uninstall anything. It detected the hardware switch, and everything worked fine. Should I try switching back to the other slot and hope my video card doesn't become one with my motherboard? The warranty has expired on my audigy 2 value, and I don't think I'll be compensated if I have no warranty, correct? All the drivers are updated, and it <EM>has</EM> worked before.
I've heard of other people's audigy 2 values that have had other channels just fizzle out in a few months. Am I one of them? Any information would be really helpful! Thanks.Message Edited by Paulie on 05-2-2005 06:30 AM

If you're sure noone was funny and turned down the left channel in advanced tab of Surround Mixer for instance, perhaps the connector loosened on the board or the soldering went bad; since your warranty expired (check with the store first!) I'd have someone who knows his way with electronics and soldering irons have a look at it.
PS I have the Audigy 2 Value as well; so far it works good but had I known it was treated like the ugly little kid in the Creative family that noone really likes to deal with i'd have gotten the ZS.Message Edited by Marco on 05-2-2005 0:2 PM

• Getting Audigy Ex Platinum back into Digital out mo

OK, I rebuilt my computer this weekend, and one problem remains. Everything worked fine before with my Audigy and Klipsch 5. system, running in digital mode. Everything is installed (physically) the exact same. I CANNOT for the life of me get the audigy into Digital Output mode again
!!! I read this KB article and know this is exactly my problem:http://dmzweb3.europe.creative.com/SRVS/CGI-BIN/WEBCGI.EXE/,/?St=885,E=000000000066343529,K=27,Sxi=8,Case=obj(3 062),Kb=ww_english_add,VARSET=ws:http://us.creative.com/?I lost the original CD's that came with the card and nowhere in the current stuff is there a digital option I can find in the current driver. This is an older Audigy Platinum Ex. Specifically I need the software pictured in THIS picture (note the red circle):[img"]http://dmzweb3.europe.creative.com/wwimages/audio_int/audigy/spkr_settings4.gif">?But I cannot find it anywhere on the download section. If anybody knows where I can find it, or what to look for, I would greatly appreciate an assist.

Forgot to mention I have all the latest audgiy 2 drivers and software

• Audigy 2 ZS (Vanilla) and Digital Au

I was wondering if anyone could answer my question about digital audio. I am planning on getting the Logitech Z-5500 5. speakers for christmas. I was wondering what kind of digital out i could do with my vanilla Audigy 2 ZS. Also, what kind of peripherals would i need. In particular i am wondering if it is possible to do Digital Coax or Optical (toslink) audio.

CrimsonSamurai,
The cable you linked to is a Toslink one, so it will only work if you have something like the Platinum dri'vebay, which is not currently available on the online store.
To connect directly to the card you have now you'll need to use coaxial. From the speakers you need a standard RCA to RCA coaxial cable, and to connect it to the card you need an adapter like this one:
http://us.creative.com/products/prod...8&product=0370
The (yellow) minijack end plugs into your soundcard, and the RCA to RCA cable connects to the black female RCA connector. The other (red) connector is for Digital DIN cables, that are available on some of our speakers, you won't need to use that connection.

• Audigy 2 ZS - Headphones work, Digital Out does not

Just install an Audigy 2 ZS. Bought a miniplug-RCA plug adaptor to connect it to my digital coax cable into my Onkyo receiver. Headphones show that sound it working. Onkyo shows no PCM signal received. I know it works because my last computer used the same amp and same cable. Is there something in the software I'm doing wrong? I'm tried switching the frequency rate, the digital out only, 2 speaker and 4 speaker settings. What am I doing wrong?
John

SoonerFann,
One thing to consider is that the digital out on the back of the Audigy 2 ZS is not an actual SPDIF out. It uses the DIN interface which is similar in form, but has a different rating on the voltage of the connection. Most receivers will still work with it, but some will not. This is most likely why it is not showing PCM on the receiver. If you have the platinum dri've, there is a true SPDIF on it but we cannot guarantee that it will work with a receiver using the DIN on the Audigy 2 ZS.
Jeremy
P.S.
You know, I am located just down the highway from your college of choice. It happens to be the heart of "Orange Country" but still is cool to see someone who is a fan of the "other school" on the forums.

• Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - Channel 3 to 7 resett

I have a Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, and everytime I change the volume through the Creative Volume Control and the remote, my speaker settings channel 0 to 7 will reset to 0, which will kill off my surround sound. It's been happening ever since I downloaded the beta driver (note: I also reinstalled mediasource at this same time because I wanted to get rid of some of the useless plugins I downloaded) but it thought it would be fixed after the official version come out. And I have the newest driver now.
So how do I make it stop resetting channels 0 to 7? It also sets channel 8 at max.

• ¿Does Audigy 2 NX decode Dolby Digital 5.

Hi,
I've purchased an Audigy 2 NX to connect my xbox 360 via optical sound wire and get Dolby Digital 5..
The problem starts here, i've connected the console to optical In (in the sound card) and i've connected the 5. via standart jacks (the 3 typical jacks), if i set Dolby Digital 5. mode on the xbox 360 i don't get any sound, but if i set it to Stereo Digital it sounds but only in 2. mode (front speakers).
The dolby digital led in the sound card never works, it's always off, it suposes to be on when it detects a Dolby Digital Input (like the 360 one's) but it always remains off.
How can i decode Dolby Digital 5. via optical in? In the sound card spec's says that this card is able to Decode DD 5. and 7., but it seems to be a lie!.

this soundcard does not decode from external source...so it won't work this way.

• Audigy Platinum Ex and Inspire Digital 5500 Speak

Having li'ved with my old Cambridge speakers now for about 3 years years I have recently noticed a sound similar to a distant rumble of thunder on the speakers, the longer they are left on the lounder and more frequent the rumble becomes. So, as they are getting on a bit I have decided to invest in a new set of speakers - Creative Inspire Digital 5500's, but they have yet to arri've.
Have I made a mistake in ordering these speakers? I have read several threads that intimate there may be a number of problems/incompatibility issues.
From what I can gather I either have to plug the speakers directly into the Audigy card outputs to retain the software advantages (5. speakers, base, treble and EAX) and then lose the manual ability to control the volume from the supplied Inspire Amp/mixer OR plug the speakers into the Amp/mixer and lose the software control.
My main use for the speakers is listening to music, not really interested in Dolby output or watching DVDs, screen and study too small, but I do occasionally watch a film or TV episode on the PC.
If anyone can either confirm or deny my percieved error in ordering these speakers it would be most appreciated.
Dave McCreath

Hi All
Answering my own question for others to find should they have any qualms.
New speakers arri'ved and installed. Connected to PC via coaxial input and work fine on both stereo (front left and right speakers only) and Dolby Pro Logic (all speakers - WOW!!).
Using Audio HQ, supplied with my Audigy software, I can test the speakers but only the front right and left work with the test. However, all work fine with the speaker test from the inspire 5500 remote - so verdict:
I am impressed with the quality, easy set up and sound manipulation. EAX also works fine!

• Multi-channel digital audio HDMI with Onkyo pre-pro

Trying to get the HDMI to play nice with my home theatre pre-processor, an Onkyo Pro PR-SC886. so far:
1. I am setting the Sound Pref Output to the Onkyo, which it sees.
2. Setting the Midi Pref to HDMI/Onkyo which it sees.
3. I would like to get a digital stream to the Onkyo which it can convert to Dolby Pro Logic II which is my preferred choice for stereo music. So far, I can only get Stereo which the Onkyo will not convert.
4. In the Midi Pref, I have selected 192Hz/24-8channel output and the speakers are set to 5.1. Everything seems to work there.
5. I was hoping to use the "Encoded Digital Audio" choice, but get no sound when I use it.
Is this an Onkyo problem and are others able to use the Encoded Digital Audio setting with another brand of pre-pro/receiver? Or is this choice used for something else?
Thanks for any insight.
Peter

It seems that Onkyo's HDMI components don't like the HDMI output from computers. There have been several threads in this forum and others where Onkyo owners report issues.
But do try the instructions listed here to see if it makes a difference...

An alternative media player option is VLC. And you need to turn on the SPDIF option in the audio preferences of this app.
