Audigy 2 ZS and Halo 2 in Vista 64-bit

I just purchased Halo 2. In Vista 64-bit, it sounds horrible using an Audigy 2 ZS. The problems come when the action picks up. The sound comes in and out. Sometimes, it cuts out all together. Come on Creative Labs, get us some decent drivers!!

Hmm, odd. I play Halo 2 on XP x64 using an Audigy 2 ZS and I have no odd sound issues. So, I'm surprised it would be any different in Vista with x64 vs x86. I mean even in XP there are a few little tricks to getting it to work in x64 over x86 (not going into that here) but none of them involve sound issues.
However, when I did have Vista x64, I didn't have any problems (I was using the Audigy at the time) in any of my games. Although Halo had a weird sound issue that was resolved by turing Vsync on (or off I can't remember - whichever is not the default) and that resolved it (it was a sort of popping noise every now and again). Creative really needs to get their butt in gear on releasing a new Audigy driver for Vista. Their unreleased timetable is completely unacceptable from a consumer and OEM standpoint.Message Edited by devguy on 08-04-2007:04 PM

  • PE 4 crashes on render, export and preview with Vista 64 bit

I just installed my PE 4 on a new Windows Vista 64 bit machine with the i7 920 processor and 512 MB ATI Radeon video card.  PE 4 worked fine on my XP machine but I cannot get it to render, export or even let me preview on this new maching.  I have followed the advise of updating all drivers and software and uninstall and reinstalling with nothing running and I get the same error repeatedly - it will render and progress for about 5 seconds and then I get "Adobe Premiere Elements.exe has stopped working" and it closes.  The video clips are from a flash memory camera and the Presets set for widescreen - flash memory.  Everything works normally until I try to view or render the files.  Any suggestions?

You say this is from a flash memory camcorder? Can  you be more specific?
Webbie camcorders, like the Flip, may shoot in hi-def, but they also record to a non-standard codec that can cause some of the problems you're describing.

  • DW and Flash in Vista 64 bit work?

Has anyone tried this? I have DW, Flash, and Fireworks

posting this on the Flash form. A search of both forums didn't give

    Adobe's PDF on Vista compatibility.

You could download the trial versions of the software and try
    it out

  • Vista 64-bit and Treo 600 Hotsync solution that works!

I too searched many, many forums and sites for a solution to this problem. And I have found it.
I have an HP dv9260 laptop with Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit and Office Pro 2007, which I bought in June this year. And I have been unable to sync my Treo 600 to it - until now. (I had even resorted to syncing to my older Toshiba Tablet PC (WinXP Pro, Office Pro 2003) via standard USB sync cable, connecting the Tablet to the new HP with a Belkin Easy Transfer cable, exporting my updated Contacts, Calendar, and InfoSafe records to .vcf, .ics, and .txt files, then transferring between the HP and Tablet, and then importing them into the appropriate app - Whew! man what a pain.
Now I have found a far more elegant and simple method. I found an Infrared USB 2.0 adaptor (dongle) at the Chunwai_1996 store on eBay (http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-USB-2-0-IRDA-ADAPER-4Mbps-SUPPORT-VISTA_W0QQitemZ110164766509QQcmdZViewItem) for $8.33 USD + $5.67 USD S&H (total $14.00 even) (I believe that the price is now $12.49 USD + $5.67 S&H.) , which said it supported and supplied drivers for 64-bit Vista. It took a little over two weeks to receive the device from Hong Kong (received yesterday, 08-31-2007).
I checked the mini CD that shipped with it but found no Vista drivers. So I just plugged it into a USB port on the laptop. Vista immediately recognized the dongle and installed generic Vista 64-bit drivers from Microsoft. I tested the unit by placing the Treo near it. The unit recognized the Treo as a legitimate device! Next, I followed the directions I found in another thread that had been successful with USB 2.0, Vista 32-bit drivers, and the Treo 600, with one slight modification. Here is a repost from the Vista-Help.ca blog by Kerry Brown, verbatim except for a couple of modifications and few additional steps.

Palm Treo 600 with Vista and Office 2007
I've had a lot of people ask about how I got my Treo 600 phone to sync with Outlook 2007 in Vista so I thought I'd write up the procedure. Hopefully Palm will have new Vista compatible software soon but in the meantime here's how I got it working on two computers so far. First you have to use Vista x86. I couldn't get it to work with Vista x64. If you've already tried to get it working then you have to clean up all the leftover stuff before continuing.
    1. Uninstall Palm Desktop
    2. Insert the CD that came with the Treo but don't let it autorun.
    3. Navigate to the correct language folder on the Treo CD and right click on setup.exe
    4. Set the compatibilty for XP SP2 and Run as administrator.
    5. Run setup.exe
    6. During the install the initial sync may fail. Just tell the installation to continue.
    7. If you want to sync with Outlook make sure you pick this option during the install
    8. Once it's finished close the Hotsync System Tray application.
    9. In Windows Explorer go to the Palmone folder in Program Files.
    10. Right click hotsync.exe and set it to run in administrator mode with XP SP2 compatibility.
    11. Do the the same for palm.exe.
    12. Start the Palm Desktop and change the Hotsync settings to manual start.
-and- 12a. ******* Check the Infrared option to make it active and available *******
    13. Exit Palm Desktop and reboot.
You should now be able to sync the Treo 600 with Outlook 2007 or Palm Desktop. You will have to manually start the Hotsync application and deal with a uac prompt because it is set to run in administrator mode. The sync only works when Outlook is not running. You also have to sync twice. The first time you will get errors about the default folders for Outlook. Ignore the errors and press the sync button again. If it still doesn't work reboot and try it again. Good luck. Let me know if you find an easier procedure.
    =====================================================
After rebooting the laptop, I performed the following additional steps:
    A. Manually started the Hotsync app (you can put it in the Startup folder to auto load at Startup).
    B. Set the Custom options to "Desktop overrides Handheld" for Contacts, Calendar, Tasks, and Notes - this may help avoid duplicates from the first Hotsync. Also, this is just a temporary override from the default setting "Synchronize the files" for each selection.
    C. Selected Hotsync on the Treo and enabled the Infrared option.
    D. Pressed the Hotsync 'button' on the Treo and placed it pointing at the Infrared dongle.
The Hotsync ran to completion without errors! Though it did take a good deal longer since it only runs at 115.2 kbps vs. the 480 Mbps of USB 2.0, I am happy.
Hope this helps others with Vista 64-bit systems and Palm OS handhelds.
    Cheers.

  • Sync Windows Mobile Treo 750 with Vista 64 bit, FINALLY DID IT!

I have just spent 3 hours trying to set up sync between my Treo 750 and my new Vista 64-bit computer.  Here's what I learned:
You have to download the Windows Mobile Device Center and its update (that's why some people felt they were downloading twice).  Even after the second download, it still didn't work, so I was told to uninstall both, then I was directed to the following link, where it only had to download once -- http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx
Once I did that, I kept getting an error message that my device was not recognized, and the mobile device center
said the device was not connected (and the proposed solution on the computer was to replace the device).  I tried the things that others have mentioned on this forum, but it still did not work.  After talking with AT&T, they suggested I do a soft reset on the phone.  That is what finally worked for me EXCEPT that each time my phone "timed out" (the display went blank), it would say it was not connected again.  I finally kept touching the screen so the display would not go blank.  Another option is to change the amount of time it will stay on before timing out, which I may do if this continues to be a problem when I sync in the future.
I hope this information helps someone else along the way.  It has been quite a frustrating process, as are many other things when transitioning to a new computer.

  • Just installed Vista 64 bit

This seems to be a problem for alot of people and I have looked all through the forums, but the replys do not seem to be helping me. I just bought a new computer system and am usuing Vista 64 bit OS. I have downloaded iTunes7.6 64 bit.. After I installed iTunes and Quicktime, iTunes will not open. The message I get is..A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Thats it. Quicktime is running fine. I even created another user account and still have the same problem. I have deleted and reinstalled numerous time with the same outcome. I now have no clue so if anyone could help me I would be very grateful!
    Thanks for the time

Okay. If the problem still arises in the other user account, then it's a systemwide thing. There are a few additional suggestions (that you haven't mentioned having checked on so far) in the "System-wide troubleshooting" section of the following document:

  • Locating drivers for Imac 24" (Early 2008) to work with Vista 32 bit

Hi all. I'm really having trouble with my Mac and was wondering if anyone has an alternative.
I have an Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 2.8 24-Inch (Early 2008) running OSX 10.5.8. I recently partition my hard disk using Bootcamp and installed Windows Vista 32 bit.
This is where the problem starts. I misplaced the driver DVD's that came with the mac and i am in dire need of the drivers especially for the video card (ATI Radeon HD 2600 pro). I was able to download the drivers for the video card but, anytime i try to install or play a game for example, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare it always give me a error that no drivers were found and the game crashes.
Has anyone else encountered this problem?
Does the Apple website provide drivers for Imac 24" drivers for Windows Vista 32 bit?

    Patrick,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You will either need to find your install discs that came with the computer or contact Apple and they will replace them for a nominal charge.
Going forward keep these and other original installation media in a safe place.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • ITunes doesn't see iPod (Vista 64-bit)

I connect the iPod touch to the computer and it charges, (duh-duh noise as if it's connected) but it doesn't appear in iTunes.
I have tried it on Windows XP pro SP3 64-bit partition on my computer, and on Windows Vista 32-bit laptop and both work fine.
However, here's a list of things that I've tried on Vista 64-bit to get it to work:
-Uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, Quicktime, the bonjour service, apple mobile device support, apple software update, apple application support etc in the order stated by Apple on here. I have then even deleted all folders that weren't removed with the uninstall.
-Holding the power and home button on the touch itself to reset the settings.
-Forcing device manager to display iPod as USB controller.
-Stopping and starting the iPod service under 'Services'.
    -Connecting in recovery mode.
    -Updating iTunes and QuickTime etc.
    -Changing USB cables
I've even tried connecting an iPhone to the computer (running Vista 64-bit OS) and that doesn't connect.
So I know it's something wrong on the OS and not the iPod or the cable. The computer's fine as the XP partition works fine with it.
    Got any ideas?
    Thanks in advance!

I do indeed install iTunes64-bit version. After much deliberation I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 to see if this fixed the problem before I did a complete re-install (as I didn't want to lose all my programs etc).
After I installed the Windows 7 upgrade (from Vista - Windows 7 just to clarify) it works perfectly. Installed first time with no problems.
I recommend this technique to anyone who can't figure it out and doesn't want to fork out an extra £240 for an iPod Touch again. It's a cheaper way of doing it anyway, if you pay for such software that is...

  • The Phenom K9A2 Platinum Cold Boot Loop with Vista 64-Bit

I've posted about this before and I think others have as well.  I will describe it again.
You power up the machine, it POSTS successfully and starts loading Vista 64-Bit.  You get the green progress bar and see a bunch of disk activity.  The screen flickers for a second as the kernel kicks in.  Instead of a pointer you are greeted with "NO SIGNAL" and the machine POSTS again!
I've seen this on 2 different K9A2 Platinum boards with 3 different CPUs: 9500, 9600, and now 9850BE.
I did some debugging last night to isolate it but I don't have a complete answer, I do have some extremely interesting news to report.  I have Vista 64-bit on my Promise SAS drives in RAID-0.  I have XP 64-bit on an IDE drive on the PATA port.  When I experience the "cold boot loop"
as described, I go into the BIOS and switch the primary boot to XP 64-bit.  I let the system boot, which is always does successfully.  Then I restart the computer and use the BIOS to boot off the Promise RAID.  Vista 64-bit always (in 7 out of 7 tries) boots the first time no problems
if I first boot XP 64-bit then try booting Vista.  Furthermore if I use a tool like AMD Overdrive to push the CPU, voltage, or memory to a high enough speed to freeze the computer, I can cause the cold boot loop in 7 out of 7 attempts as well.  Once the cold boot loop begins, the computer rarely boots (if I leave it for ***HOURS*** sometimes it will boot into Vista, after 100 attempts or something).
I'm not entirely sure what this means.  It sounds like there's a sticky bit somewhere, and who knows where, that is causing the issue.  I would think not in the CPU itself, although I guess that is possible, when I switched from the 9600 to the 9850BE and powered up, I was stuck in the cold boot loop so I think I can discount the CPU.  That really just leaves the BIOS in my opinion.  Anybody have any interesting comments
    about this?

I experienced similar problems this weekend with my rig.
I have two WD Raptor drives, 150GB on the promise controller and SATA DVD on SB600. If I started Vista, it would boot, show POST screen, then I would see the initial Windows green bar, but after a minute with lots of disk activity then the system would reboot.
Next, I would then be promoted to start windows normally, or start with the last known good configuration, sometimes this worked, sometime it did not. This happended for a while, until I managed to install all of the optional and recommended Vista 64bit OS patches and an updated promise raid driver.
Once these were installed, my system had no boot problems at all, so I would make sure your promise driver is up to date and that all the Vista 64bit OS patches, updates etc are installed.

  • Laserjet 1012 on network with Vista 64 bit laptop

I am currently trying to connect to a Laserjet 1012 that is set up on our home network with a laptop running 64 bit Vista.  I have tried to just rght click and drag the printer from the networked computer it is directly connected to and then try the install option.  This brings up a dialog box stating that it cannot find the correct inf file or drivers to install the printer.  I have tried downloading and extracting the Vista 64 bit drivers from the HP support site but I can not find the inf files needed to complete the install.  Had been running an XP laptop with the printer installed the same way and am currently using another laptop with 32 bit version of Vista that was installed the same way with no problems.  I have tried several different things to get this printer installed but still can't get it up and running.
    Any help will be appreciated.

  • Distorted / choppy recorded sound with Audigy 2 ZS and Vista 64-bit

Hi, I wonder if anybody has any idea of why this issue is happening. First let me give you my PC specs:
    CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 940 @ 3.0 GHz
    Mobo: Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4 rev. 2.0
    Graphics: 2 x BFG GeForce 8800 GT 52MB
    RAM: 4 x GB G.Skill PC6400 @ 800 MHz
Sound: Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS
TV Tuner:? Hauppauge WinTV PVC PCI II (26xxx)
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit SP
?So here's the deal. I have no problems whatsoever with audio playback with this sound card. The issue I am having is while recording sound with it. When I record my voice via a Microphone with the Windows Sound Recorder and then play it back, my voice sounds very choppy. It sounds as if I was talking in front of a fan. The same happens with any program I try to use. If I use Audacity to record sound, the playback is also distorted / choppy. The main problem is with Skype, as I cannot use it to talk to people because they cannot understand what I'm saying because of the issue. Does anybody has any ideas why this happens? My PC is a dual boot PC with Vista 64-bit and XP 32-bit, and this issue only happens with Vista. Sound recorded plays back fine under Windows XP.
I am using the latest drivers available for this card from the Creative site.
    I'd appreciate your help,
    Daniel

A little bit off topic here, but 64bit does not mean more performance at all lol.
Sure, but there are in some cases drastic performence diferences. Under a fresh installed Vista X64 i have less CPU usage, as under 32 bit. But of course X64 uses more RAM (some tasks are double 32 and 64 bit). But the main reason I have more performence is, that the games I often play, get almost a boost. Dont ask me why, but under 64 bit EAW and FOC have the same FPS as under 32 bit. But under X64 I use a bit more Details and a higher resolution. (both are 32 bit games, so its a bit funy )?______________________?Sure there are other ways to install the drivers. But if some Setup dosent work, the first thing I try is to get it via Divice Management. And as this worked for me, I dont waste time to try other methods (Had bad experience, you can break the driver faster than install it *G*)?______________________?Some Questions I have left (after a few hours undr X64 with Creative Drivers):?Could it be, that the driver causes sometimes havy CPU usage?Could it also be, that the driver causes some lags, after you copy a file (the end sound, copy is finihed, but takes more time for "final finish", than without the drivers) - I know that Vista has some problems, on some PCs with copy, and that MS has an inoficial Patch (but dosent help for my PC so far)

Yes it is called trying to install the wrong driver for your card. Will work much better if you try installing the correct one,

Also helps if you click on the "Show Details" link on the download page, then you would see that the one you tried to install doesn't support your card,

Have you checked the volume button? It might be physically stuck. To determine whether a hardware repair is needed, you need to follow these steps:
    1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
After that: test the device to see whether the issue is solved.
    2. If the issue is not solved, you should backup the device and restore it as new.
    In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup.
If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.
If you get specific error messages/codes in iTunes when updating/restoring, check this: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694 for causes and solutions
    Good luck
