Audigy 2 ZS Decod

Something dawned on me today that I was wondering about. I built myself a PC a few months back and one of my included parts was an Audigy 2 ZS.
Now I know it has built in DTS and Dolby Digital decoders and I got to thinking: How do I actually use them? I have power DVD 5 for whenever I watch DVDs on my computer, but it as far as I know, decodes sound in software, so what... if anything, can I use to actually use my hardware decoders built into my card?
Thanks
Adam

lihming,
Cards supplied in Dell machines are bulk/OEM, so they can differ from the retail cards. To check if it supports decoding, you'll have to contact Dell, as they support the card directly. It is possible the card doesn't support decoding in hardware, but you should still be able to use decoders in software (like PowerDVD).
zeonstar,
I don't have PowerDVD installed on this system so I can't check the exact setting, but if it's a full (new-ish) version, it should be SPDIF, or Bypass/Passthrough. As long as you change it to that setting, and leave the decoders on the card enabled (through AudioHQ> Device Controls), then they should be working fine.

  • Is there a difference between Audigy 2 hardware decoding and DVD/MPEG-2 software decodi

I have a capture card and run my PC as a part time HTPC. The audio and video is analog captured and MPEG-2 encoded by the card.
I have the Nvidia DVD/MPEG-2 decoder set to SPDIF(reciever) so it sends the audio stream directly to the Audigy 2.
When playing any of these recorded shows, the only way I get any surround sound on my 5. speakers is to have CMSS () turned on, and it's ok (but not as good as true DVD quality 5.).
What I am wondering, would there be any difference if I upgraded the Nvidia codec to the platinum version, which does software 5. decoding? Would it do a better job of decoding any Dolby Surround material?

  • Audigy 2 ZS decoding DTS performa

I have posted a message before to resolve IRQ conflicts, well it's done and audigy decoding is working well. although there's some out of Sync in the audio, when i pause, rewind, forward, skip a chapter, etc. this is solved changing in powerdvd from SPDIF to 6 channels, and 6 channels to SPDIF again.
if i watch the complete movie there's no problem at all, it's really amazing the sound that produces audigy decoding AC3 over powerdvd decoding.
The problem i have is with dts decoding, for the first two minutes it works normal(Woow it's even better than AC3, the playback is smooth and the sound Louder) , but then, it pauses, i have to stop and then play to continue, the strange thing is that this happen in different times such us: two minutes, 5 seconds or even fi've minutes.
This tests i did in Zoomplayer with SPDIF OUT using Powerdvd audio and video decoding.
In WinDvd i test the same thing but there were pauses too,but it continue automaticaly, i don?t have to do 'the stop and play' as with Zoomplayer.
I checked the CPU usage and it's an increment of the use of the cpu DTS decoding over AC3 decoding, maybe my Pentium III 500 hz doesn't support it.(cause there's some peaks of the 00% porcent usage, when decoding DTS in Audigy zs 2.
i also have tried accelarating(increment and OFF) hardware accelaration in both Nvidia card and Audigy zs 2 card. i have noticed some longer playback but at the end, it pauses anyway.
) What is the Best setup in hardware accelaration in both Nvidia video card and audigy sound card?
    2) What else do i have to setup to be able to see a complete movie with audigy DTS decoding without pauses.

I hate pumbing threads like this , but I really need an answer , DTS stutters but AC3 is perfect , I am also using reclock?in case somebody suggests it .

  • ¿Does Audigy 2 NX decode Dolby Digital 5.

    Hi,
I've purchased an Audigy 2 NX to connect my xbox 360 via optical sound wire and get Dolby Digital 5..
The problem starts here, i've connected the console to optical In (in the sound card) and i've connected the 5. via standart jacks (the 3 typical jacks), if i set Dolby Digital 5. mode on the xbox 360 i don't get any sound, but if i set it to Stereo Digital it sounds but only in 2. mode (front speakers).
The dolby digital led in the sound card never works, it's always off, it suposes to be on when it detects a Dolby Digital Input (like the 360 one's) but it always remains off.
How can i decode Dolby Digital 5. via optical in? In the sound card spec's says that this card is able to Decode DD 5. and 7., but it seems to be a lie!.

this soundcard does not decode from external source...so it won't work this way.

  • Audigy 2 AC3 decoder level trouble

    Hi everybody.
As you know, the Adg2 ZS card can decode AC3 and DTS using SPDIF output when playing DVD's. With many discs, like LOTR - The two towers at the fall of Gandalf scene for example, I can hear strange noises when output level raises too much. But it is with "Laura?Pausini?Li've from San Siro" when this problem gets unstandable. I can notice, that the recording level of the Dolby Digital track, is too loud compared with most of comercial musical and cinema DVD, and when output level reaches high points, I can hear a lot of crackle and nosises.
I'm afraid that this is due to the fact that the hardware decoder cannot handle the (sometimes) extrem sound signal input. I'm using Purevideo from nVidia and I've tried to pull down the digital volume control. I've tried with -35dB for example, but it doesn't seem to work.
    Any help?

  • Audigy 2 ZS Platinum not decoding A

I want to use my Audigy 2 ZS Platinum to decode AC-3 signals when I play DVDs. I have done everything the "Digital Connections, SPDIF and Dolby Digital Info" thread. I have verified the SPDIF passthrough is disabled in AudioHQ.. rather.. Use Installed Decoder is enabled. I am using Intervideo WinDVD 5 to play DVDs. In this software I have Digital (S/PDIF) out selected. I'm using the Creative wire harness to connect the analog connections from the audigy to my receiver and I have my receiver setup to use the direct analog inputs. When I play a DVD the dialog is faint and only comes from the front channels. If I tell InterVideo WinDVD 5 to decode instead of using the SPDIF out it sounds exactly like it should. The dialog is very clear and comes from the center channel and the rear channels also produce sound. I don't trust my receiver to decode so that's why I'm not using the digital out instead. It doesn't sound right.. why I bought the Audigy to do the decoding.
Using InterVideo WinDVD 5 to decode isn't an option for me to use for other reasons. It is a good test to make sure the Audigy is doing what it should. For whatever reason, the Audigy is not decoding the AC-3 signal properly. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? It really blows my mind. This isn't a new concept at all. I didn't expect to have problems with it.
    Cheers,
    Scott

$$$ I keep throwing money at this computer trying to get audio to work right. The Audigy 2 ZS Platinum was throwing more money at it... I'm not going to keep buying more and more stuff to get the computer to decode an AC3 signal properly. I'm going to see what other people do that works.
Is there a solution to get the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum to actually decode the AC3 signal?

  • Audigy 2 ZS does not decode DD5.1 and

    Hi,
My set up is MCE 2005 with NVDVD decoder (the audio decoder is set to "passthrough SPDIF" to use the Audigy 2 ZS DD5. and DTS decoder). I am using a set of 5. analog speakers.
With the sound play back hardware acceleration all the way up "Full", the Audigy 2 ZS sometimes produces some clobbering sound, and sometimes no sound. If I adjust the hardware acceleration down two notches "Basic", then the Audigy 2 ZS decodes DD5. contents beautifully, but it still can't decode DTS contents, there is no sound.
It looks like the driver problem with Directsound rendering. Is there anyone know how to fix this problem? How do I submit this problem to Creativelabs?
    Thanks for your help,

What're you using to playback the MP3s? Is this Creative Mediasource? If so does it playback with WinAmp, Foober 2k or some other program?
Some versions of Creative Playcentre had a preview option which played the first so many seconds of an MP3. However you have an Audigy 2 ZS which is unlikely to have Playcentre.

  • Pops sounds when Decoding AC3 with audigy

Hi, i want to make audigy zs decode ac3, doing the following:
in powerdvd 6 , i set to spdif out, and in audigy "use internal decoder" is enabled, it works fine with dts decoding, but with ac3 there's pops sounds during loud scenes, if i enable "dynamic range compress" in AudioHQ, the pops sounds disapears but the dynamic range is gone too, something i don't want because i really want to enjoy that sound.
Is there a way to listen the wide range sound of AC3, i mean with dynamic range enable without the pops sounds that produce when decoding ac3 with audigy zs?
someone has tried this or there's no chance to do it at all!

Well, a think all of you are not telling the truth, because you dont' even test it in the scene i mention(Lord of thr rings)
For you to know, there's movies that there's no pops sounds at all, like the original star wars trilogy, shrek , no problem, but in LOTR trilgy there's a problem.
Now for BigBen he said something different in:
    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=3043&quer y.id=4735#M3043
In that forum, i had and old computer Pentium III 500 MGHZ, that didnt,t work anything, Dvd audio, dts, ac3 decoding. nothing.
    I tried all and nothing.
finally i gave in, and bought another cpu because maybe it was an issue of the mother card,
i bought a Compaq DeskPro En(Pentium III 000MGHZ). now all the problems i had before are gone, except for the pops sounds in Ac3 decoding in LOUD SCENES, now this is common problem for most users, now if you say you don't have, well try lord of the rings Trilogy, Return of the king!

  • Inspire P7800 connected to Audigy 2 Platinum

Help please. I properly (as far as the diagram shows) connected my new speakers to my existing Audigy 2 platinum sound card (not the front console but the sound card itself) but I do not seem to have the original sound card CD so downloaded the newest driver from Creative downloads and installed that. No matter what I do I can only get sound out of one speaker. What am I doing wrong?

There is only one choice. To get digital on the Z-5500, you have to use it's decoder (because you cannot turn it off). If you try to use the Audigy 2's decoder, you will get no sound. You can't send a decoded signal to another decoder.
In the Audigy 2 settings, select "spdif passthrough". This will disable the Audigy 2's decoder and just send the compressed digital signal to the Logitech Z-5500 control pod and it will then do the decoding (that's if you have the "coax" setting on in the control pod. Also make sure to have the DVD player software also set to "spdif" for the speaker selection.
You will be then be good to go. You can use the Z-5500 to switch between analog and digital (do not disconnect the 3 analog cables from the Audigy 2 to the Logitech Control Pod).

  • Audigy 4 and Reciever/Amp simple question

    Hi all,
Despite inundating myself with what is probably TOO much information from the knowledge base and forum, I could really do with an answer to what is essentially a pretty simple question....
I recently got an Audigy 4 sound card and external io hub. Lovely bit of kit. Very nice. I only really use it to watch the odd dvd and listen to music with WMP9.
    I have a Sony multi-channel receiver/amp with 5. speakers attached.
The amp has multiple digital connections - all either optical or co-axial. (and individual 5. analogue too)
These currently accept optical links from my dvd player and xbox. Lovely.
So, I would prefer to use the digital connections (nice and easy cable approach as with xbox) but I think I'll only get 2 channels when I play dvd... So what is the best way to connect the two....
    Thanks
    Glen

The thing about that kind of digital connection is that involves compressing 5. channels into the space of 2, using proprietary encodings. This makes sense in terms of storage space savings (i.e. more room on that DVD for special features), or if bandwidth is constrained (i.e. broadcast TV can fit 5. into the space originally designed for stereo), but the only way it makes any kind of sense for getting audio a few feet from the soundcard to a receiver or speaker system is because nothing more direct ends up being available. The result is that your xbox needs a high-powered chip to make something very (and unnecessarily) complex seem simple. Your Audigy does not have that; it does not have the ability to make that kind of 5. audio for your receiver to then decode.
Your Audigy does, in fact, have the ability to output 5. digitally, in the digital space that 6 full-range channels need, using a single cable; but your receiver, like virtually all of such, doesn't accept it. CL digital speaker systems have a "Digital DIN" input which uses it, but your receiver does not have a "Digital DIN" input, nor any equivalent of that. Even if it did, there's still a problem, because it's muted for DVD-Audio's higher-resolution formats, purely as an effort to prevent consumers access to high-resolution digital audio signals that are not encoded, for copy-protection reasons.
Because DVD 5. soundtracks are pre-encoded on the DVD, you don't need the Audigy to be able to encode. All that is needed is to get the soundtrack from the DVD to your receiver as is. The Audigy can do that. As the other post indicates, the keys are to tell the DVD player software to output digital, and to tell the Audigy not to decode.
Under the covers, that actually uses the Audigy as a 2-channel soundcard, and the rest of its channels are "wasted." None of its real multichannel capabilities can actually be used with a "digital" connection like that. However, if all you do is watch DVD's and listen to stereo audio files, especially if your receiver has features to simulate full surround from stereo, you may not care.
Personally, my strong preference is for the multichannel analog hookup, although I might set up both types so I could compare the sound of the receiver's decoding with the Audigy's decoding.
Things you can't do when using an external decoder hookup:
. Use the soundcard to adjust volume while listening to DD/DTS multichannel soundtracks (though it's best to use the receiver to adjust volume all the time, actually).
    2. Hear any other sound sources while listening to DD/DTS multichannel soundtracks.
    3. Get multichannel audio from PC games.
    4. Get multichannel upmixing using CL's CMSS feature.

  • Disabling Audigy 2 ZS Deco

Tonight, my Logitech z-5500 speakers arri'ved. They work perfectly other than the rear right and left channels when testing using the Creative Speaker settings. However, when using the test feature on the remote for the speakers, all of the channels work perfectly.
This leads me to believe that the Audigy 2 ZS decoder is overriding / interfering with the z-5500's decoder.
I tried to disable the ZS's decoder by going into AudioHQ, then device controls, but there was no decoder tab. So then I tried to update the drivers and software, but I recieved an error saying that the drivers did not detect the sound card installed on my system.
I know that when I purchased this computer, the sound card came installed already. I bought the computer from HP and I think that maybe they installed some sort of ZS that is not the right one.
I am not sure what to do, and any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

switch the front left/right with the rear left/right output on the subwoofer, then run the Creative testing thing again, if "rear" speakers are still quiet you either have a defecti've rear output port or you use the wrong plug

    Ques 2 :
My Speaker Creative Inspire 5. 5200. How can I hear Dolby Digital and dts sound?
    Ques 3:
If I use Audigy 2 Zs and Creative Inspire 5. 5200. Dolby Digital and dts sound can come through my speaker?

Q: From the description of you soundcard of the Creative website, it looks as though you should have dolby digital decoding capability, but I'm not sure why your AC3 option would be missing (my option is in the advanced playback settings).
Q2: If it turns out your card is not capable of decoding AC3, then you can use a version of PowerDVD or WinDVD with Dolby Digital/DTS decoding capability (not usually available in the free versions). This will let you get DD/DTS using the analogue connections to your speakers.
Q3: The Audigy 2 can decode both DD and DTS so you will be able to use the analogue connections to your speakers to get 5. surround sound.

  • Internal or external decodi

Does the Creative Labs Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS PCI Sound Card have internal or external decoding?

External decoding is where you use an external digital reciever that is not part of the computer, such as the Creative DDTS-00. With the Audigy 2, the decoding is done by the computer, however you can still use an external decoder if you wish.
I want to play Battlefield 2 in full surround, play music, and watch Divx and DVD's in surround from my PC. If I have an Audigy 2 sound card (does this have DD Li've?), will I be able to connect to my Yamaha receiver just through SPDIF for all of the things I mentioned above and will they be in surround? Can I connect some desktop speakers too so that I don't have to go through the receiver for sound in case someone is watching TV on my projector and speaker system? Thanks for the help.

  • Connecting SPDIF in Loop. (First take input from Source to PC then send it to the card for decodi

    Hi
As asked many on this forum. Some Creative cards doesn't support (Such as Audigy 2 NX) decoding from external sources but they do support decoding from PC.
As my card Audigy 2 NX have SPDIF optical input I was thinking of getting a way to do following.
. Capture the SPDIF data from input on PC.
    2. Then send in the same data as output to my card
Any idea on how to make this possible. Like windows sound controls tweaks will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks
