How exactly is the audigy 2 value different from the other Audigy 2's? Does it use a different DSP? I want to know for sure if there would be any negati've impact on frame rate in games with an audigy 2 value versus the audigy 2 zs.
The FireWire port is exactly that, a FireWire port on the card. You can use FireWire to connect to DV cameras, FireWire devices like external harddri'ves, and to connect to another PC with FireWire (networking).
The Digital I/O module is an upgrade accessory that gives you more inputs/outputs. If you don't need FireWire or THX Certification, then you can use the Audigy 2 Value.
What kind of speakers will you be connecting to, and what will you be using the card for (mainly)?

Hi all, I have an Audigy soundcard which has a Firewire port on the back, is this a normal Firewire port or is it SoundBlaster specific? If it is a uni'versal Firewire port then how can I use it's cuz I tried to plug in an external harddri've and nothing happened.
Hey Jeremy,
the external dri've has its own power supply. The MB has an onboard port which I forgot about and that one works with the dri've in dos. At least that one works and now I can run ghost to image my dri've. Cant understand why the pci port wont work. -
Hello, I am having trouble with the audigy firewire port in DOS. I am using a Norton Ghost 2003 boot disk with firewire support drivers. The computer wont see the external firewire hard dri've connected to the audigy firewire port when running in dos. Anyone else run into this?

So I have a solution to the problem but I wanted to check to see what everyone thought before I went out and spent money on a replacement part.
A day or two ago my Audigy 2 NX (external sound card) just stoped getting power (it seems). All the lights went blank but occasionally they will blink for a few sequences then go blank again. The strange thing is that the red internal lead behind the optical out/in is on...just nothing else seems to be getting power.
Things I have tried:
I uninstalled everything and tried reinstalling but it does not recognize the NX (perhaps because it has no power?)
I switched USB ports to see if that was the problem.
I plugged the NX directly into the wall (thinking the surge protector might have a bad plug).
After all this did not fix the problem, the only thing I thought made sense was that it was the power adapter that had just gone out. The adapter itself seemed overly hot and was making more internal noise than I thought was normal but that does not nessisarily prove anything. There is a replacement part but, again, I am only running of surface logic so I thought I would post here to get a second opinion before I spent any money on something that may, in fact, not even be the problem.
Thanks for any assistance you can give me.Ok so I found some posts that seem to have the same problem but no solution so I will keep checking this post to see if anyone tried the replacement cable or found something else that worked.

Before I go through the hassle of tweaking all kinds of settings in windows and scrubbing and reinstall drivers (and thereby getting progressi'vely more frustrated), I want to see if anyone else has had the same problem I am and if they found a solid solution.
I have an Intel P4 based machine with a gugabyte 8KNXP mobo. The only cards in my machine are an ATI Radeon All-In-Wonder 9800 PRO, and my Audigy 2ZS. The vid card is riding in the AGP slot, and I have moved my sound card to every PCI slot except the one next to the video card due to heat reasons.
My sound is perfectly fine whenever I am not gaming. When it does act up, I do not get the crackling I have heard posted here by other people. What I get is a very regular click/pop. It is very sudden, very short, and *very* regular. The clicks are usually about a second and a half apart. The clicking isn't always present. It will come and go. When it shows up, it usually continues until I shut the game down, although there are cases when it will just suddenly stop and everything is ok again.
I have had this problem playing online games. WoW, EQ2, EVE, GuildWars, etc... Non-network games don't give me this problem.
The obvious assumption here is that it is network related. My motherboards onboard network controller is on IRQ 8. My audigy is on IRQ 22. No conflict there.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem?Hello,
Thanks for the reply! In surround mixer, under source, I do see the last slide on the right is mic, but there isn't a mute option under the slide. I tried moving the slide all the way down, but that didn't help. Any other ideas? I'm desperate!!!!!!! Need communication during game!! Thanks -
I am new to the Audigy card and would like to know how to record whatever is playing on my computer such as something from the internet.
jellybean48,
You can use the MediaSource application to do the recording. Make sure you have set the source to 'What U Hear' option. You can also check the MediaSource FAQ at Knowledgebase. Look under Create with MediaSource.

Audigy 1 to Audigy 2 - Cheapskate Quest
Hi
I currently have an Audigy Platinum system in my PC replete with the 5.25 inch front panel.
Having looked at the front panel that comes with some of the Audigy 2 cards I see little difference between them. Can I just buy an Audigy 2 card and then plug my Audigy front panel into the new card?
This will save me some ?50 if I can.
The Dark SideTheDarkSide,
Unfortunately the Audigy dri've is not compatible with the Audigy 2. There were changes made to the way that the dri've communicates and this requires the updated dri've.

Um, should i adjust hardware alleceration in windows or just leave it on high?
You will need to use Creative Mediasource Player if you intend to use the Timescaling and Cleanup options. You should see that mentioned, in the lower right corner of EAX Console. These features have no effect if another player is used, such as WMP0.
A "better" 7. system? It depends on what you define as better. There is a higher end 7. system from Creative themselves, called Gigaworks S750. But is costs at least double what your Inspire costed.
As for a better player it again depends on what you need. There is a more advanced player, foobar2000, which includes many customizations and filters. -
Can I still use my onboard mic? If so, how do I set that up?
Also, I've noticed this morning that I now get a nasty kind of crackling when recording through my mics. I've just moved, but otherwise nothing's changed. As far as eq settings and levels and whatnot, I can't find anything wrong. I used a couple different record settings in my surround mixer, and got the same result. I haven't tried recording from another input as of yet, maybe that's my next step.
Anyway, if anyone can offer help or advice, I'd be much obliged. If I plug the pink in pink and the head sets bacl into green it sort of works.
Sort of? Can you be more specific? If you want to connect to the back of the card that would be the way to do it. The green output is for "front" speakers or a headset. I'd recommend setting the speaker selection to Headphones then, otherwise it will output some sound to the rear speakers and center/sub, for surround sound, instead of sending all sound as a stereo signal through headphones. The microphone is connected correctly, just make sure you set up the mixer, especially the slide for recording sources.
You mentioned you have a Platinum set, so alternati'vely you can connect the headset to the dri'vebay, it has a headphone connection and a mic in2.

Audigy platinum ex firewire port
We are having great difficulty using the firewire port on an audigy platinum ex. The audigy has worked very well for three years. The machine is an AMD Athlon 2GHz, AOpen m/board, Win XP with SP2.
We recently bought a LaCie d2 extreme 200GB triple interface HD. When connected to the port on the external audigy box, or to the port on the rear of the PCI card, this dri've is not recognosed by the computer. It does not appear as a HD in the hard disk section of the device manager, and we can see no evidence of a firewire client running, though the PCI OHCI Compliant IEEE394 Host Controller is installed and working. From this we conclude that the OS is set up for firewire devices, but that for some reason it is not being detected.
When we connect the LaCie dri've to a USB2 port on the machine, the device works fine; we can see the dri've, access it for directory & file lists, and read & write files to/from the dri've. We have also tried the LaCie on other machines fitted with USB2, with Win2000 & Win98 and it works fine. We therefore conclude that the LaCie does not have a fault itself. This hard dri've has its own power supply, and is not reliant on the power capabilities of either IEEE394 or USB2.
We have 'discussed' the matter with LaCie. They have asked us whether the IEEE394 port we are experiencing difficulty with is engineered only for DV, or whether it is engineered to be connected to mass storage device such as a hard dri've. We were unaware that ther were such differences with IEEE394, and we have no way of checking this; the Creative labs specification does not go into this detail.
Therefore, the questions we would like to pose to the community are as follows:
. Is this port known for certain to be engineered for the attachment of mass storage devices?
2. Has any body actually attached a mass storage device to the external dri've box port or the port on the audigy PCI card?
3. has anybody actually use da LaCie d2 extreme 200GB dri've on these ports?
4. What set-up procedures were followed to get a LaCie to work?
Although we are 'newbie' status on this site we do have considerable experience of computers and computing going back to 966, and covering most types of machine that have been extant in the intervening period. This includews working with PC's since 983 and as systems engineers on Unix technical workstations. This problem does illustrate that no matter what ones experience level is, there is always something that can baffle, as this has done to us.
We'd like to thank in advance anybody who can contribute information to solve this problem, or indeed anybody who reads the posting and could point us in the right direction.
Regards
John SmithI have been using a Maxtor One Touch external USB/Firewire hard dri've and a Canon digital camcorder on the Platinum Audigy Ex Firewire port for over a year with no problems except for the time the plug on the extension cable inadvertently got pulled out of the back of the Ex box when I moved some equipment around.
I am running Windows XP Professional SP2, and I upgraded to it after I started using the Audigy Platinum Ex Firewire port. No problems either before or after.

WHITE (wire) = VP
BLACK (thick wire) = GND
ORANGE-YELLOW (wire) = TPA+
Does anyone know the wiring order of firewire??
Cheers,
TechIve got this possible wiring for the Firewire with the following layout:
WHITE = VP (Voltage Power)
BLACK = VG (Voltage Ground)
LIGHT GREEN = TPB-
PINK = TPB+
LIGHT BLUE = TPA-
ORANGE-YELLOW = TPA+
BLACK (THICK) = GND
got it from an EPSON GT-10000 scanner that has firewire Manual just added GND at the end with wire i have left
Connector pin assignments from scanner PDF
Pin number Signal name Function
1 VP Cable power supply
2 VG Cable ground
3 TPB Strobe during receipt, data during

6 TPA
I have already set it up on the Audigy 2 Firewire pins, is it worth testing and could it go wrong? -
Well i have audigy 394(firewire version) and 7. t7700 speakers,my problem is this i can't get to side speakers working properly on one setting they are just aditional fornt speakers on the other setting they are aditional rear speakers is there way around this, and in creative sorround mixer i cant select 7. only 5. but in windows mixer i can select two configs of 7.,is there a chance that i will have 7. sound on my old audigy?
thanksthe card only support up to 5., so or you can do is select 5. on the software end and there is a switch at the speaker sub. make sure that is set to 5. to 7.

Hi folks - I wonder if anyone can help. I am having real difficulty with USB on my system :O . My modem cuts out, my scanner won't scan and genrally the whole USB thing is getting to be a drag. It appears that the MB is the issue as I have tested the equipment on other machines and they work fine. My MB details are (from Sisoft Sandra)

Rock Ape (UK) ) Thanks in advance.gilgaron is correct. power the hub and place the devices that require over 500ma on it-if the hub supports high power-which it should. look at your periphs you will notice that they have the power requirement listed on the sticker.
each individual root hubs only powers 500ma for all the ports not 500ma for each individual port. so the best bet usually is get a self powered hub and place the 500ma+ devices on it. also you may have the option of self powered device instead of usb power. that is also suggested if they need 500ma or more.
