Audigy 2 ZS gamer and EAX

I have the card in the message topic. I have downloaded the EAX driver ( I think correctly) but when I enable EAX 4.0 in games, noise is vary statikey. Especially when things get a little bit louder. This is anoying and want to make sure that it isnt a problem with the card itself.
Thanks??specWBMessage Edited by specWB on 03-2-20060:34 PM

The best way to install the drivers is the following:?
Download the latest package<
Unzip/Extract it by right clicking it (You will need to have a utility like Winzip or WinRAR)<
Find the DRIVER subfolder of the contents you extracted<
Run Setup from there<
Check the "Replace Creative Shared files" option.<
You do not need to uninstall any drivers before doing this method of installation.
The games you are mentioning are using EAX Unified if I am not mistaken. So check to see if there is an "eax.dll" file in your WINDOWS\System32 folder. Notice that this file does not come with the drivers but with individual games and may get replaced if you install a new game.
If you do find the file, check its version:? I have heard that version 3.0 is the most stable and that version 4.0 causes problems. In any case try to search the Internet and find another version of the file and try it out.
PS:? It is quite possible that shared resources cause the problem, so if the above doesn't work, you might want to try changing the PCI Latency setting in your BIOS. Usually it is set at 32 cycles, so may want to try setting it at 64. More BIOS settings are documented in the Knowledgebase Article with?Solution ID # 2538.

.Audigy 2zs Gamer and Windows Vista / Windows 7? Hello, I am just wondering if it is a known issue to have really loud static and crackling when playing games using this card in Vista or Windows 7. I had this issue playing Bioshock a few months back on my Vista boot. I never figured out a way to resolve it so I belei've I just eventually uninstalled the driver and used the card without a driver install (not sure but I think this what I did). It worked but I might as well of just ran onboard sound...
Now I have installed and tried to run Windows 7 on a dual boot but I started receiving really loud cracking and popping in Warhammer Online and realized I had not installed a driver for my sound card. I did not expect creative to have a Win 7 driver yet but thought perhaps the Vista driver would work in compatibility mode, it does and sounds awesome and really makes me remember what I am missing without my driver installed on Vista but unfortunatly it randomly starts the crackling and popping again after a while...especially when a lot start happening on screen (pvp raids with many characters on screen and magic effects).
When the crackling starts happening I have no choice but to exit the game and restart the computer to get rid of the noise, but randomly it comes back after a while during gameplay. So as a temporary solution I have installed my onboard sound drivers and have been using that for sound output and my mic port on my sound card for my microphone. I would REALLY love to get my sound issues worked out in both Vista and Win 7 because it sounds SOOO awesome while it's working, the popping though is terrible, I never had that issue in XP.
I know this is an older card but any help would be appreciated!?

One thing you do need to learn is that SHOUTING IS MUCH HARDER TO READ!
But, if you are using Audition 1 and it works with XP, then if you have the chance, I'd stick to that on a new machine. Apart from anything else, it's completely untried with Windows7 and with Vista its a) likely to have problems, and b) going to run slower.
The other part of your question about the 'look' of later versions is that 1.5 looks pretty similar to 1.0, but with 2.0 and 3.0 things have changed somewhat - rather more with Multitrack View than Edit View. Basic operating principle remains the same, though - most people have had very little trouble transferring from one to another.

• Want to connect Audigy 2zs gamer with digital so

Ok I have the audigy 2zs gamer, and the gigaworks 750 7. surround sound.
I also have hdtv cable box with digital out, and optical digital out.
I have ps3 (obviously with blu-ray) and xbox 360, both of which have a optical digital out.
I want to be able to connect to these, but I guess the only inputs ( on pod, and on card) are analog only.
My question is. Is there any way to do this. I see a digital i/o box, but I don't think it's compatible. It says it is with the value model, but not the regular 2zs gamer one?
So do I have to buy a newer sound card, or can I use this one as is, or with the digital i/o box to make it work.
I don't care about having multiple connections, I can make do with having only connected at a time.
Thank You

I guess what can solve one of the problems is.
If I use a digital out (4 pin minipole connecter) from my cable box to the line in of the 2zs board, will it accept it...or is the line in for the 2zs analog only?

• Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, EAX/Game Major Problems(Crackling, Pops, Freezing, Screeec

ok, well, here is my story, ok, in about early august 2004, i purchased my Audigy 2ZS platinum, of cousre i was excited because i knew i was getting one of the best sound cards out there, it wasnt too long until i realized that there was a problem with my soundcard, i was playing Rainbow Six 3(one of the games that came with it), when out of nowhere, it froze with an anoying loud repeating high pitched screeching noise. at first i thought it was just a little first game streching thing that happened, but then it happened again, and again, then it happened in other games, i.e. Halo PC(mostly cuz i was playing that most of the time). i was so tired of it freezing that i just took it out and i decided to test it out with my brother's audigy 2, but again, it did the same thing, so i just sticked with my onboard audio. I went on some forums and i saw that the majority of people have fixed the problem by getting a new motherboard, so i saved up for a new one(i also did it cuz i wanted more pci and memory slots). once i got my new motherboard, i was again, excited to finally use my audigy, once everything was set, i thought it was fine, then it froze once, i updated to the latest dri'ves, didnt freeze again, but then it did, then 2 weeks later, the soundcard started acting funny, whenever i played halo pc, battlefield vietnam, and any other game that took advantage of EAX made these weird crackling and pops with i.e. explosions, environments, and bullets, and even on the main menu of BFV(battlefield vietnam). i tried switching pci slots, did the same thing, i've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, nothing did anything, then i thought maybe this problem was a windows problem, so i did a clean install, so far it works great, besides the fact that it does the same problems, besides freezing, but i do know that it is EAX because whenever i turn EAX off, it works fine and doesnt make any crackles what so ever...but who wants to play a game and not take full advantage of one of the best soundcards, right now, i just reinstalled and installed the soundcard again and it still proceeds to do the same problems, everything is up to date, vid card, sound card, except bios, but, i dont see why it would be the bios because it did the same thing with the old mobo, someone did say it might be a vid card driver, but i dont see y that would be concidering my brother has the latest ATI dri'ves(same with me) and his works fine, i sure hope this is a fix or something coming out to fix this problem because i've noticed that people have been having the same problems.
Here are my system specs:
AMD Athlon XP 2200+
52MB DDR
ATI Radeon 9600 SE
60GB Hard Dri've
60GB hard Dri've
Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS Platinum
D-Link AirPlus ExtremeG Wireless Adapter
Samsung CDR-RW
please help me, because i've had this problem for almost 7-8 months, and right now i am really frustrated with this soundcard.

My story goes much the same way...got an Audigy 2 ZS last summer and was nothing but pleased with it at first. A few months later I noticed static in some games, but ignored it for a while. Then Doom3 came along and static was very heavy whenever surround sound was enabled. No amount of IRQ switching, BIOS tweaking and driver reinstallation could resolve the problem. I continued to li've with it until I upgraded my 9600pro video card to a 6600GT, after which the static was prevalent in all games and random freezing started occurring, usually involving what has unfortunately become known as the "screech of death". The only solution to these problems was to bump the sound acceleration slider down two notches to 'basic directsound features', which is obviously less than optimal for a $20 sound card. Sorry, but as I try more and more things and I read more and more stories it is becaming clear to me that for whatever reason, this card simply will not work properly in some systems.

• Best EAX Effects with SB Audigy 2 ZS and Headset?

Best EAX Effects with SB Audigy 2 ZS and Headset?Hi,
I have reinstalled Windows XP SP3 lately and installed just the Audigy_SupportPack_3_8 as driver for my Audigy2 ZS. I have a Sennheiser PC50 headset.
Now I can't get EAX to work.
The EAX setting in game is enabled and it sounds different than without it but I can only distinguish left from right but not top from bottom and front from rear.
Am I lacking any driver component?
How do I setup the audio device in Windows? Headphones or 4 speakers?
Do I need CMSS 3D? CMSS or CMSS2? Even if the game supports EAX?
What about optimize 3D-Effects for headsets? I use a headset, so I should enable it's
And also I can't find the suround mixer, is this not included in this support pack?
I mean this one:

Re: SB Audigy 2 ZS and Windows 7 - Full Package driver?T While Creative has written new drivers and some applications for Windows 7/Vista for the Audigy, they have not re-written or updated all of the original applications on the CD. This card is very old now. What Daniel K. did was take all of the applications or most of them, and tweaked them to properly install and include themselves in the registry on operating systems other than Windows XP. For the full and most recent package, check here:
http://forums.creative.com/t5/Sound-...009/td-p/53838
If the application you want is not included in his package, then you can try downloading the official Creative version and install it on your system in "compatibility mode" by right clicking the file, and choosing properties, and then the compatibility tab and choosing "Windows XP service pack 2 or 3" and it may or may not function.

• Audigy 2 ZS Gamer and Plantronics DSP

After installing my Audigy 2 ZS Gamer card my Plantronics DSP 400 headset (USB) does not work properly. The sound through the Harmon Kardon analog speakers is fine, but when I switch to the headset I am unable to adjust the volume and one channel is louder than the other. Any idea of what could be adjusted to the sound settings to make the headset work, or do I need to get a headset that plugs directly into the soundcard now?
Thanks.

• Audigy and EAX 4

Im trying to find this file AUD_EAX4DRV_0303.exe
Im using an original audgiy card and the driver download page says I need this driver to install the updates to the control panel and mixer. Ive tried installing them with just the driver listed but I get an error saying im missing a the driver. So my question is where do I get this file?Message Edited by gomjabar on 0-02-2006 04:48 AM

Yep, I'm running Windows XP Professional SP2. I'm also running the ZSN in Advanced Mode, Maximum setting (using the latest Feature Mode Selection Utility, which replaces the Performance Utility). I can also alleviate the sound effects issue in Uru by switching the ZSN to Standard Performance, but I lose any hardware acceleration and EAX 4.0 effects. More evidence that EAX 4.0 could be at fault.
When I was using the Performance Utility to analyze my system, it would always suggest Standard Performance, which didn't make much sense to me, given my laptop is a P4 3GHz with GB of DDR RAM.

• Cant play games with EAX enab

Hello, I was hoping someone might have some advice for me. I recently installed an Audigy 2 ZS and have been unable to play any games with EAX enabled since (including the ones that came in my Gamer bundle). About 30 seconds after starting up the game i start getting horrible high pitched noises from my speakers and the game will act visually like its a skipping DVD(lagging hard?). The noises and skipping come in waves begginning about 0 seconds apart and progessi'vely getting worse so that 2 minutes later its just all lag and sounds like someone chiseling at a chalkboard. All problems seem to go away once i have disabled EAX in the game consoles. I have run the creative updater and gotten all the newest drivers, i have tried physically moving the card to the PCI slots at either end of the stack, i've tried seemingly every combination of settings within the MediaSource panels, just for fun i even tried different speakers. i've run out of ideas and dont know what to do.
please help
Win XP Pro SP2
2.6GHz P4 400MHz FSB
G RDRAM
ATI RADEON 9800Pro 28
Audigy2 ZS
Logitech Z-5500 5. speakers

ok, nevermind that last post. Ive managed to get unique IRQs assigned for all devices (took some re-arranging and the discarding of a few non-essential PCI cards) but the problem remains. Also, this was probably totally unnecessary because apparently part of complying with the PCI 2. protocol (which this card says it does) is being able to share ICQs.
Also, I have tried as many of the options in that knowledge base article as i could (some of the BIOS options mentioned are not present on my system, etc) but the problem still persists.

• Audigy 2 ZS and inspire T7700 no 7.1 with mov

Hello. Maybe you can help me:
I was trying to watch Episode one (with Dolby sourround EX) with power DVD 6 an Windvd 6 plat but i'm having problems with my 8 channel output because when i start the THX optimizer, the sound that is supoused to be heard on my side speakers, comes from the rear speakers and the sound from channels 6 & 7 (Rear center) its also coming from those speakers. This Failure also happens with the Windvd Channel test: side speakers doesn't work and in power DVD 6, CLMEI II technology does not work with side speakers. The only way to get sound from my side speakers is with CMMS.
The tests for the THX console for audigy 2 complete succesfully altough it keeps me saying that my side speaker and sub aren't wired correctly (polarization test). The channel and noise testing goes ok besides that.
This problem is exclusi've to DVD watching beacause with EAX HD 3.0 or 4.0 games, i'm not having any problem.
is Dolby digital EX in episode really works with 7. configurations (region 4)?
How do i need to configure this players to work with the installed decoders?
Are my speaker set defecti've?
Can i buy some kind of monster cable to imrpove my sound?
It's that all right that the sound from 5. tracks (DD or DTS) is played from the front and rear speaker and not in the side ones?
Note:
The supoused wiring problems repeats itself even if i change the connector of the the side speakers with the rear ones (that are soppoused to work fine). That means (i think) this problem isn't caused by the speakers wiring (i think i made it ok) could it be that the 7. cable is deffecti've?
What to do? Please Help me
Creative Staff: where i can go to check this on Mexico city? is there any sopport center where i can go and get some help?
My config:
Audigy 2 ZS and Creative inspire 7. T7700

My guess is that your PowerDVD and WinDVD versions don't have ES support and you're using the programs to decode. This might be the case if you are configuring the programs for multiple speakers. If you are, try configuring them for SPDIF output, then make sure the soundcard is configured to decode AC3/DTS (it probably is). Does that help?

• AUDIGY 2 ZS AND GIGAWORKS DVD PLAYBACK H

Hi
I have just purchased an Audigy 2 ZS and the Gigaworks speakers, I have a problem that is driving me nuts.
Whether I use Power DVD or Windows media player I cant get DVDS to sound right
If i use Dolby prologic 2 or CLMEI-2 settings I get either a robotic kind of sound or low bass
If I use no effects in the DVD software and the CMSS or 2 I get my 7. sound but the voices in DVDs are coming from the side and rear speakers too. As far as Im aware I should only be getting ambient sounds and the voices should only be coming from the front.
Could anyone please shed some light on this, what settings should i use to get:
7. sound with the bass sounding loud
Voices only coming from front/center speakers
Thanks for any advice.

Hi asamp,
I reckon both you and me are "PC DVD Enthusiasts" (though I do also play a hell lots of games).
() Regarding Hardware / Software Decoding
IMHO, hardware decoding (by your soundcard) should be much better than software decoding (by your DVD software), both in terms of sound quality and efficiency (any latency), along with alleviating workload from your CPU. Hardware solution is almost always better than Software solution.
(2) Regarding EAX with DVD Movies
IMHO, EAX are perfect for games but bad for music & movies. In games surely we all want positional audio along with realistic environmental effects such as reverb and occlusion. But for ordinary MP3 playback and especially for DVD movies, I definitely wouldn't want any artificial funky effects such as "Opera Hall" or "Jazz Club".
(3) Regarding CMSS with DVD Movies
CMSS is good for upmixing ordinary stereo contents to simulated surround sounds (or "parallel stereo" mode), similar in functions to Dolby Pro Logic II or DTS Neo:6. But for DVD movies (and I mean DVD movies, not those lame DivX / XVid rips), audio contents are already encoded by Dolby Digital / Dolby Digital EX / DTS / DTS-ES for "real" surround sounds. There is definitely no need to enable CMSS which won't do you any good at all but bad. A quote from Guru 3D about CMSS with DVD movies:
http://www.guru3d.com/article/sound/246/4/
I tried to enable 3D Creative MultiSpeaker Surround, or 3D CMSS for short. As I explained pages ago, this feature will simulate surround sound on two speakers (CMSS2) or it will simulate surround sound on 5. or 6. system from a stereo source (CMSS). With multi-channel the effect is not subtle and actually is highly dis-recommended. Things change though when you are watching a movie that does not have multi-channel sound. As stated earlier, XVID and DIVX, a large sum of these movies are recorded in 2 channel Stereo or 2.0 DD sound. That's where 3D CMSS comes in quite handy. Much like Dolby Pro Logic the spatial orientation of 3D CMSS kicked in nicely as you get a feeling of an Dolby Digital 5. movie. Voices are placed to the middle speaker, you can hear action in the rear, the explosions came from the subwoofer, yes Shrek 2 was sounding awesome I know this is a bit of a subjecti've yet bold statement, but 3D CMSS on the X-Fi might even sound better then Dolby Pro Logic (2). Ehm, I don't think it can get much better then this in this 2 channel mode. Of course Dolby Digital and DTS (ES) is the much preferred option here as it blows all this away.

• Sounds "sticking" in games and a question for Creat

I'm not sure if this is the best place to do it but I'd like to kind of formally briing forward a bug in games that's not X-Fi dependent. I've had this happen with my Audigy 2 ZS and my Fatalty.
I know this isn't anyone's fault but it's still quite annoying. Sometimes if a player near you starts shooting (usually it's shooting) then the server or he/she lags for a second, his/her gun will be stuck on firing. Till they die or change weapons or fire again, you have that sound looping constantly. At first I thought this was only in BF2 and a bug in the game. However, after playing FEAR online more now, I've had this happen several times. Although it's rare, it is a pain. Sometimes if you ask the player to fire their gun again they will other times they won't.
My question for Creative is, would it be possible to have a "reset" command for the soundcards? Have it flash the RAM real quick or restart the sounds somehow? Just make it a hot key that players could push when it happens?

I am pretty sure I have the same case. The product description on Amazon says VTSO, but the metal tab actually says IVSO. All of the ones I see look like they are probably the same or very similar case with a different name. I bought the QuickShot cover, and it is OK, but it does nothing to protect the corners, which I consider very vulnerable spots. The IVSO/VTSO provides all around coverage. I don't think we are going to find anything much better. If I do I will come back and post.

• Help with Audigy 2 Zs and crackling sound ..

For the past 5 months or so ( not long after I got the product ) I have been getting this periodic issue with the sound ...
I'll start to notice a popping and crackling sound coming from the left channel when loud sounds issue from the game ( multiple games ). After a while I figured ou ttha tI could :
a: Reset all my settings to Default , Then reconfigure my surround
or
b: Reinstall and/or patchthe current driver set ...
Both seem to fix the issue for some time then it all returns within a month or so .... It's a rela pain to have to keep configuring my Audio settings every month.
My system specs are
Asus A7N8X DLX Rev. 02
AMD 3000+
Gig Corsair XMS
BFG 6800GT 256
Audigy 2 ZS
Raptor 74 Gig
and some Altec Landsing Speakers ( I forgot the model number )
Any idea what could be causing this ?
Thanks in advance.

I got the fix for you twellons. Just go in the audio control panel and mute the midi/synth in the panel and you will have the fix. My system specs are close toy yours amd 2800xp, nforce 2 a7n8x dlx ver .04 and a original audigy card. Now creative has to address this issue in new drivers. Also download the demo of contract jack and when you load the game and the game menus comes up, scroll through the options in that menu like new game, load game quickly and you will here that popping noise in only the left speaker. and when you do that fix that i mentioned above, no more popping . So try that out and please get back to me and tell me if it worked or not. That issue was tough to figure out.
P.S. You owe me

• Audigy 2 ZS and Raven Sheild a true testermen

Man oh man. If I ever thought that EAX HD did not work with my card properly, then I was wrong, DEAD WRONG!
. Hot **bleep** every single room will give me a completely differnent reverb and or occlusion effect. I have never heard anything like this before in my life.
Words can not trully explain it, so unless you havent played this game then you have no idea just how good the ZS can be when thing are done right.
Bullets bounce off walls and give a different effect depending where they hit and bounce off. Voices are muffled and DO sound differently depending if they are behind brick or timber and if you close your eyes you CAN tell if its brick, timber or steel.
Just like the EAX HD demo, this game sounds just like that, everything has different sound FX and blends and mixes perfeclty , the translation form room to room is SO freaking good its scary as you hear the background melt away as you get closer to a new sound source.
I just thought I would mention this as it seems that Creative may not be at fault for the most part and it would seem that game developers HAVE to get it right in a BIG WAY. This one game is testerment to what CAN be done with the ZS cards and SHOULD be held up as a bench and FULL compair when it comes to EAX HD 24 bit gaming.
I know its an old game and I never really got into the Rainbow six games but man oh man oh babe this is PURE EAR SEX to the max. Oh, the 5. is perfect and reflects sound spot on.
Do your self a favor, get this game, if only for a true EAX HD sound thrill ride.

• Audigy 2 ZS and Halo 2 in Vista 64-bit

I just purchased Halo 2. In Vista 64-bit, it sounds horrible using an Audigy 2 ZS. The problems come when the action picks up. The sound comes in and out. Sometimes, it cuts out all together. Come on Creative Labs, get us some decent drivers!!

Hmm, odd. I play Halo 2 on XP x64 using an Audigy 2 ZS and I have no odd sound issues. So, I'm surprised it would be any different in Vista with x64 vs x86. I mean even in XP there are a few little tricks to getting it to work in x64 over x86 (not going into that here) but none of them involve sound issues.
However, when I did have Vista x64, I didn't have any problems (I was using the Audigy at the time) in any of my games. Although Halo had a weird sound issue that was resolved by turing Vsync on (or off I can't remember - whichever is not the default) and that resolved it (it was a sort of popping noise every now and again). Creative really needs to get their butt in gear on releasing a new Audigy driver for Vista. Their unreleased timetable is completely unacceptable from a consumer and OEM standpoint.Message Edited by devguy on 08-04-2007:04 PM
