Audigy 2 ZS - Logitech Z-5500 = NIGHTMA

Hello all,
I have an Audigy 2 ZS (standard, not the Gamer or Platinum editions) and I just upgraded from a Logitech Z-2200 to a Z-5500 speaker system. I -loved- the Z-2200. Absolutely loved it. Because of my high opinion of the 2200, I wound up developing a high opinion for ALL of Logitech's products. I bought myself a MX Duo keyboard, one for my wife, and another set of Z-2200s for a close friend. I recently assumed that if the Z-2200 was good through my Audigy 2 ZS, the Z-5500 had to be earthshaking. That what I read, anyway.
So, I ordered the Z-5500 and received them yesterday.
I spent a couple of hours carefully hooking them up using the supplied 6 channel direct cable, powered them up and...
....was seriously disappointed.
They didn't have the punch that the 2200s had. I had to turn ALL volume settings up to 00% to achei've the same power that the 2200's had at 75%-80%. Maybe that was just me expecting to shattter the windows like my 2200s were on the brink of doing. I had all operational effects, 6 channel, DPL, etc. through that 6 channel input.
Regardless, I figured that I had something wrong with my hookups or set up, so I started making sure that things were proper. I mounted the speakers accordingly on my walls with wall anchors and screws. I went to Radio Shack and bought an RCA to miniplug cable (part number 42-246A). I downloaded all Creative updates for the Audigy 2 ZS card and made the exact settings per this entry in the Logitech knowledgebase here: http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/...hZ2U9MQ**&p_li=
Once I had everything set, I turned everything on and now I have NO sound. NONE. When I press the "input" button to select "Coax", I get "No Digital Data" on the display.
Sure, I can use the 5500 remote to run the test and that works just fine, I get pink noise all the way around so the test works great. After being up all night attempting to find out why I once had semi-weak sound and I now have none with these 5500s, I am at my wit's end. I have checked and rechecked ALL software settings, cables, etc.
I have no idea what to do. I looked all over the Logitech message boards looking for a solution, and I see I am not alone in this problem but no answer has been posted. I am pretty frustrated by all of this. I called Logitech tech support and they told me that the cable I used does not work, even though people on the Logitech forums say it DOES. Logitech support said that with my Audigy 2 ZS card and these speakers, I need to use the supplied 6-channel (3 mini plug) cable and cannot use anything other than an optical cable or a coax-coax cable, which my sound card does not have outputs for.
I think that Logitech's support is very friendly and I love their products as much as I love my Audigy card, but I am questioning this. How can I have one of the higher end cards and sound systems and have them not work together on a higher end input level?
All I want to do is have kick-butt sound system in my home office for MP3 music and DTS/THX/5. movies, so I got a killer card and a killer set of 5. speakers. It is a shame that they do not work together so far. My sound card worked GREAT with my Z-2200s.
I figured I'd post this here, perhaps I can get some decent input.
Can ANYONE help with this? You can tell I am a bit of a newbie with this, so thanks in advance for ANY help anyone can offer.
Jason

Thanks for the reply!

What is that you mean Nightmare? Maybe your skills are contributing to the nightmare......maybe
Heh...no "maybe" about it! By "nightmare" I mean satying up until 2 am the other night trying to figuue out what could be wrong.
I have same setup and the sound will blow you pants off...no doubt about it ......reviles anything my XBOX throws at me through my $2000 sound system.
That's what I was expecting. Hence the reason for me being so bummed about the situation. It looks like it will get better, though.
If you wish to use Digital Coax to connect to the Logitech Control unit, then the part you list from Radio shack is not...... I repeat NOT correct.......
Yeah, I found that out from the Logitech tech. There is a bit of misinformation on the Logitech web site. I know they are not obligated to monitor the stuff, they make that pretty clear, but it HInk it would be a good idea if they at least kept bad info off fomr it as much as possible. Easier said than done, I am sure.
get Gold RCA to MiniPlug Mono adaptor...then get a Digital Coax Cable.....for good sound quality......both are $30 bucks total are Radio Crap..... If you want nothing but digital then find the tick boxes in Control Panel and Creative Speaker Setup......tick these and reboot.....you will be either 48 and 96khz sampling rate.... I use 96.....
Thanks! I'll make sure I get the right cables this time. If you happen to know part nubmers, it would be most helptful because I know me, and I know how some Radio Schlock employees are...me going in there and asking for that is about as close to the blind leading the blind as you can get.
the drivers from Creative are buggy as is the in game support for EAX3... I have problems getting that to work properly in some games.
Lucky for me, I am not much of a game player...lately.
div>Note that with Digital stream.....you will not be able to CMSS 3D or any other EAX effects....those are for Analog only....... I have both modes hooked up and the 3wire cable Logitech provides works fine.....hook it up.....run the 5500d's in 6Ch Direct mode and you have amazing CMSS3D mode for playing music.... I have used Itunes and Windows Media 0.....both produce music quality that is amazing in this setup......the CMSS3D is the real deal.
Okay...help me get this straight...
I got this system primarily to listen to music loud enough to make my ears bleed and sound good enough to make me wet my pants, plus watch some kick-butt DTS movies on DVD. Like I said before, I am not as much about games as I used to be. Music and movies is the goal here.
If I am understanding this right, I can have both the 3-miniplug (6 channel) cable AND the Minplug-Mono Adapter/Digital Coax Cable hooked up at the SAME TIME? If that is the case, I would listen to my music (using Winamp) using the 6CH Direct mode (which uses the 3 minplug cable) with CMSS3d for the optimal music experience, and then I would switch over to Coax Digital for watching a DTS movie on DVD? Please let me know if I am correct on this.
Also you can use the Creative DVD Audio player and sampler disc to hear even greater digital fidelity, although analog mode only......Creative is a little slow on their software eng, and didn't do a Digital option for playing this DVDAudio.......<
Is the lack of option for DVD audio a Creative hardware thing or a software thing? If it is a software thing, what do I use to listen to DVD audio through this system?
anymore issue......call me.......800-Neptune
Uh-huh...and who should I ask for if I were to call that number?
Anyway...here's something interesting about the situation...at leas you you MIGHT find this interesting, or you might find a hole in the theory. I do in fact know of a hole in the thoery, but I am not sure how accurate it might be. Read on...
Yesterday, I did what the Logitech tech told me to to... I got out my old 2. Z-2200s and set them up right next to the Z-5500 speakers here in my little home office. I set the volume and subwoofer level on both systems to about 25%.
Then, I grabbed an old portable CD player and put in a disc, played a song and then switched the plugs from one system and then to the other into the CD player to compare sound output. Again, this is what Logitech instructed me to do. I only had to go back and forth twice to realize that something was terribly wrong.
The outcome? My old Z-2200s were TWICE as loud, and had TWICE the sound quality and fullness as the Z-5500s. My old Z-2200s just sounded SO much better.
I did some more testing. I cranked the Z-2200 up a little past halfway and it was about as loud and most people would want to listen to them in a room the size of my home office. Then I switched over to the Z-5500s again and I could crank them to the highest volume level and it was about the same...maybe...in volume.
Now, I might be a newbie but here is one thing I do know...
Z-2200 = 200 watts RMS
Z-5500 = 500 watts RMS
=
Z-5500 > Z-2200
An e-buddy of mine said that it sounded like the amplifier was bad...and it made perfect sense. The Z-2200s sounded like it had an acti've amp, and the Z-5500s didn't.
I got on the phone with Logitech, explained that I did what they told me to do and they said, "Yeah...something is definitely wrong there." and instructed me to get a replacement from the company I bought it from.
Logitech support is great, but getting a replcement from Dell where I bought them from was a 3 hour telephone "nightmare". Ugh...
Anyway, when I get the replecements, I will let you know what happened. Thanks again for the reply and all of your help.

I have an Audigy 2 ZS and Logitech z-5500 5. speakers. Everything was working fine and one day the volume was reduced to/0 of what it was supposed to be. The speakers are connected with analog cable (yellow/black/green) and all the connections are right (it was working before). I had the same problem when I installed the sound card at first, I just installed the drivers and the volume was way too low. I went to EAX Console and changed a few options and BANG, volume was normal. Some options on EAX will just make the soundcard stop working, like POP will work but ROCK will mute the sound completely (is it a crappy software?). Now I have the same problem, it works but it sounds like a walkman. I tried removing the drivers and installing it again several times, tried system restore and absolutely nothing works. Next step is re-installing windows and exorcising the sound card. Has this happened to anyone out there, I haven't seen any problems like this yet. Thanks

I had this problem that the whole left rear channel was quiet while every activity PC-games/normal stereo music but now is this problem only by the audio-dvd. I dont know whether it s an software problem or an hardware defect. But i think the last one is the cause.... I hope some one out there could help us/me

  • Need Help Configuring Audigy 2 ZS w/ Logitech Z-5500 Speaksers (Pre-bundled from De

I just received my Dell XPS Gen 5 system that I configured with the Audigy 2 ZS and Logitech Z-5500 speakers and as others before me, I can't get them configured to work together. My support tech at Dell is working on the issue, but I haven't heard from him yet. From reading the posts in this forum and others across the Internet, I am not alone in getting the sound card and speakers to work.
So far I purchased the digital coax cable along with the /8" mono-to-mono miniplug so that I can plug the coax cable into the back of the sound card's digital out connector/din.
The logitech control pod shows the input as Coax, but that there is no digital signal being sent to it. I also have no sound from the speakers.
I've read various ways to fix this issue, some of which talk about changing the sound card settings and dvd software settings (Catherina, the administrator for this forum posted some stuff); however, I don't know where to do this in my Creative software. One of the posts says to go to Start/Programs/Creative/Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS/Creative AudioHQ and click on the Device Controls icon and then select the Decoder tab and change the SPDIF settings or something. I don't have a Decoder tab as an option. I do notice on the Bit Accurate Mode tab that the section for S/PDIF input signal monitoring shows that the S/PDIF-In signal is an "Unknown or invalid signal."
Could someone please tell me specifically what I need to do and in what software (Creative, Logitech's, my DVD software) to get this set up? Again, all I've done is hooked up the Logitech control pod to the sound card's digital out via a digital coax cable. I haven't done anything else other than upgrade the Creative software.

  • Please Help! Audigy 2 ZS coaxal conection to Logitech Z - 5500

Please help! I can't connect Audigy's digital autput to speaker's digital input, - they are different. I have a coaxial cable with mono plug, it fits to digital input of the speakers but doesn't fit to output of the audio card, because the card's ouput are most complicated (stereo or some else). I thoudgt i found the way out. I used an adapter thet transfers signal from one stereo plug to two mono plugs - right and left. I attached stereo plug of the adapter to card's digital output and one of two plugs from other end to the digital input of the speakers. So get the soud, but i though suspect thet i don't get full-fledged sound, after all the second channal is inactive, and if i swap right channel to left the sound differs.
    How can i get full 5.1 digital sound Audigy 2 ZS / Logitech Z - 5500

<SPAN>i am 00% sure everything is connected correctly. When I use the Creative SB audigy 2 ZS software to test the speakers, on the "channel" buttom, i only hear sound coming from ?front left? and ?front right?, the rears and sub have no sound, I have set to ?6 channel? on the speaker control pad, and have set to 5. on Audigy 2 ZS, I had tried to disable the decoder from the sound card, but the problem still exist.<SPAN> When I set the speaker control pad to ?direct? effect on ?6 channel?, and test with the Audigy, I can hear ?front rightcenter?..all working, but when I listen to MP3 and CD, there are no sound come from the center speaker (on windows xp pro), But when I listen to MP3 and CD on Windows 98 (I have 2 systems installed on my computer), sound come from all speakers.<SPAN> Therefore, I believe that the sound card has problem running on Windows XP pro.

  • Logitech Z-5500 + Audigy 2 ZS = DIGITAL PROBLEM

Today I buy Logitech Z-5500 Digital, i have Audigy 2 ZS clasic
I HAVE A BIG PROBLEM I CANNOT CONECT THE SPEAKER WITH optical cabel.
WHY ? HELP ME PLEASE !!!!
I buy Optical TOSLINK gold cabel and conet him to sound card, and to the Digital SoundTouch? Control Center, then turn on, and do nothing the control center will not detect the conection over optical cabel.
on display its this: Input: DIRECT 96-24
i dont know what do ?
its reqaied a special conector cable to the audigy or what ?
( i enable in windows all digital conection )
( maybe its wrong the conector on sound card, or in sound control center, i buy 3 others cables and nothing )
PS: sorry for me english its not main language i from slovakia

You say you have the Direct input selected? That's the wrong one. There is a button on the remote that says "Optical" you need to press to switch to optical input.
You are using the optical output on the Audigy dri've bay aren't you? The digital output on the back of the Audigy soundcard is not an optical output, it's for digital coax.

  • Audigy 2 + Logitech Z-5

    Hi,
I've got a new PC with an Audigy 2 soundblaster. The problem is, that neither the speakers (Logitech Z-5500) nor headphones etc. are found. I think I have installed all drivers for the Soundblaster. Actually, the speakers should be found when they are connected to the PC.
    What can I do?
    (Win XP SP 2)
    thanks.

This sounds like something basic, please forgive me if I have guessed it wrong.
Let me get this straight, you in all probabilities have upgraded from Realtek onboard sound with jack sensing technology. So you would get a pop up through Realtek Audio Manager on chosing what you have connected to the jack eg. headphone, rear out front out Centre/SW etc.
Unfortunately this functionality of jack retasking or auto sensing is not available in any of the creative products.
For connectivity of the speaker system, please refer to the product manual. If you are still using the original analog 5. cables supplied with your Z-5500 speaker system just plug them in firmly with color corresponding color jack if you have value edition of Audigy.

  • Need a 5.1 Sound Card to run with my Logitech Z-5500 speaker sys

    Hi everyone,
I would to pick your brains a little please
I have got the Logitech Z-5500 Digital 5. Speaker System.
I would like to purchase a sound card to run with the system but was unsure on what card to get. I obviously need a 5. card, right? So will I need an X-FI or an Audigy? This is where I am getting confused, I got told that the X-FI's are 7. and the Audigy's are 5., I'm not sure if this is true?
Would someone be able to recommend a compatible card please? I have a budget of about ?00 (GBP) or 'about' $90 (USD).
I would like a card that's good for music, games and to watch movies.
Any replies would be much appreciated.
    Thanks in advanced,
    Tulsi

    My fault Catherina, sorry.
Jo6Pak - Thx for your reply and suggestions.
Reihead - Thx again for yours too and your right, those speakers deserve a quality card.
I've got some good news One of my friends has the X-FI Extreme Music card and has let me borrow it in exchange to borrow my PS2 lol just so I can test it out. The good news is that it seems to work!
So far there has been no issues with the card what so ever! I was quite surprised after reading other users comments about the crackling and popping issues with mainly the nForce 4 chipset mobos.
The sound is awesome compared to before Just played Counter Strike for a while to test things out and WOW!!! No issues just quality sound! If I don't get issues with the card, I'll buy it, definitely worth it.
I do have about half of my services disabled and have some personal reg tweaks n things. Maybe that's a benefit. Could also be the x64 bit version of Windows... who knows!
Still early days... I 'could' still get crackling and popping sounds after a while, only time will tell.
I will keep this thread updated with my progress or non progress lol.
    Thanks

  • Surround Mix with Logitech Z-5500 Digital

    Hello,
I have a project for a 3D animation short movie, and I'll also make the score and sound effect for it, to make a DVD.
I don't have Logic Pro yet; I have Logic Express.
Is it possible to use a Logitech Z-5500 Digital set to do the surround mix with Logic Pro ? Using the optical digital out ?
I have a very limited budget, so I'm looking for the cheapest solution possible, with the best possible sound.
I'm waiting for a Mac Pro 2.66 with an ATI graphic cards (for Motion and 3D).
    Thanks.
    G4 1.42Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

can't you pick the surround soundtrack in the control bar that is displayed close to the bottom of the movie window when you start one in iTunes? If theres no surround track, it cannot be done, furthermore, the speakers must be run from a surround home theatre receiver. Messing around with it on one of my desktops, I can choose the surround channel, but since it only has 2 built in speakers, I obviously won't get 5.1 (L/R front, center, L/R rear, and subwoofer). I agree iTunes should have preference that surround is automatically decoded when a surround track is available much like it's a preference in DVD player. I still haven't figured that one out.

  • XFI and Logitech z-5500 connection for DVD film: analog or co

    Hi
I already read a lot of posts here but not found the answer.
My question is: in order to watch DVD movie, which is best connection
for Logitech z-5500 to show true surround sound: Analog or digital by coax?
In other words, we will let XFI decode DD and DTS or make XFI to pass through to
    Z-5500 to decode itself?
    And why?
    many thanks and best regard.

Either way will work, but the problem with using the X-Fi as the decoder is that in order to get the correct LFE level, you must use the +5 dB LFE boost; however, this can only be activated when bass redirection is switched on. Since the Z-5500 system has its own bass management, using two crossovers spoils with the linearity of the low frequency region. So for that reason, I tend to use the Z-5500 decoder. It would be nice if Creative could separate the LFE boost from bass redirection in the next drivers, but I guess that won't happen.

  • Best Setup for Platinum X-Fi w/ Logitech Z-5500?

    ? Hi all,
Pardon my ignorance in this subject as audio is not my forte. After a bit of research on my own I've got a lot of conflicting information so I'm hoping things could be clarified for me by some kind soul that may also use these speakers:
I just received my Logitech Z-5500 speakers to compliment my X-Fi Platinum. Naturally I'd like to get the best sound from them for PC gaming and music. I have them currently connected via Fiber Optic to the front panel S/PDIF port. On the pod I have it set to Optical Input/Stereo x2. In the Creative console I have it set to use External Decoder for DTS/Dolby. Music sounds good to my ears. Is this the best way however to get the best quality? Are there other settings I should be aware of in Vista or elsewhere? More importantly I suppose, is there any difference connecting to the front panel port instead of the onboard flexijack?
Any help would be much appreciated!?

yes every sound card on the market is doing DDL/DTS via software but these are encoders and decoders DD/DTS are also via software but it don't matter at all.
Im using this combo for movies DTS Interacti've + AC3filter for decoding, works great and sound as good as standard decoders in X-fi or even better as it has many more options to play with and the DAC in Z-5500 it's the same class as X-fi dac but has 6 channels instead of 8ch.
For me, sound is better over spdif with this speakers, sound it's clearer and sharper and I like that
Yes it's doing true 5. as long? as it gets 5. signal for example from game or movie encoded in 5. but if you play stereo sound it will upmix stereo to 5./7. through CMSS or DTS Neo and you will get multichannel output so X-fi is outputting true 5. and now will even do 5. over spdif with DDL/DTS pack a year ago X-fi could only output stereo over spdif?
    sorry for my English

  • Decode AC3 Dolby with Audigy ZS or Inspire 5500 digita

Hello, i need your advice, I have Sound Blaster Audigy ZS and Inspire 5500 Digital,
which best to Decode AC3 (6 Channels)
    decode with Audigy or Inspire?
    Thanks

    arturjose,
You should have the sound card bypass the AC3 signal to the speaker for decoding. Remember to also have the DVD software setup to SPDIF bypass the AC3 signal.
