Audigy 2 ZS : only stereo output from SP

Hi everybody,
Please let me explain you my problem : I have an Audigy 2 ZS sound card that I want to connect to my CambridgeAudio DD & DTS amplifier. To achieve this, I have set everything up to be as transparent as possible on the computer (that means, no decoding is performed neither by the sound card nor by any software) so that the raw stream goes to the "digital coax in" on my amplifier. I use a mini-jack to RCA adapter and then a coax cable to the amplifier.
Now the result of all this : even though my amplifier detects it receives a DD or DTS signal (it is displayed on the front panel), I can only hear stereo.
Any ideas ? I've installed new drivers, deinstall, reinstall, etc... none of this worked.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated before I try and check whether this card can fly (just kiddin').
Thanks !
Nicolas

Nicolas,
If you are playing a Dolby Digital or DTS source, the stream should go through to the amplifier/decoder you have connected, and play it properly. Just make sure you set your DVD software's audio option to SPDIF or Bypass aswell. It may be set to 5./6 speaker now, in which case the software will decode the signal. Some trial versions of applications will not support this feature or setting.
If you are playing music/games or another similar source, then it is not a Dolby Digital or DTS source, and what you're experiencing is normal. Check this page for more detail:

Unfortunately not, this is a feature people request regularly, but it doesn't seem like Creative will do anything about it.

  • XiFi and Audigy Take Over Input and Output from Bluetooth Head

I am having trouble with my bluetooth headset when making phone calls in any VoIP application (Skype, Yahoo!). I usually use the headset as the input and output for my VoIP bits so I can move away from my desk, etc... First, it worked under XP with my Audigy no problem. I bought a XiFi and installed the latest drivers and it began stealing my audio. Oddly, it does not do it until the call connection is made (so I hear the ringing in the BT headset and once the call is answered the system reverts to the mic, a Logitech USB, and main speakers, directly plugged to the soundcard).
I decided to put my audigy back in, because I was planning on upgrading to Vista and thought the XiFi may be bad. I did a fresh Vista install with the Audigy and everything worked (i.e. audio for phone calls stayed in my BT headset). I then upgraded from the Microsoft drivers to Creative?s Vista drivers and the problem then happened with the Audigy as well.
This leads me to believe that some sort of regression happened in the latest drivers. Everything else works great, games, movies, etc? but this is a show stopper because I want to use my bluetooth headset. I tried to downgrade to the Microsoft drivers but the card would no longer work. I have tried a driver install only, then added the software, removed that and did a full install. This is with BETA drivers on Vista, but the problem existed in XP as well which were not BETA drivers AFAIK. I have updated to the latest Bluetooth drivers as well with no luck.
I have confirmed this on two of my PCs and a friend of mine is having the same problem (XP, XiFi) so he went and bought a Skype phone which works correctly.
    Thanks in advance

  • Audigy Gamer-Missing headphone stereo output & bizarr behav

Yes I know I have an older card =/ Anyway...
    The problem:
One random bootup into WinXP soundcard no longer provides right headphone output. So I troubleshoot it with a different pair. Same problem. I return to using my old pair only to find out now the left side has gone out too! I shut down the comp, pulled the card out, and blew the jacks out with air compressor -- to no avail. I return the card to its PCI slot and turn the comp back on. Now instead of having now sound at all I only have a high pitched (volume dependant) whine whenever the WInXP asks for audio output. I then proceed to uninstall the dri'ves and update to the latest, but only to come back to my original problem -- no sound from the right ear.
Yes. I've read through the sticky "read first" post. It didnt help. So perhaps someone with experience can help me out. Anyone?
    Thanks.

Ok. so now the squeal has returned and crashes WinXP (not a BSOD though). Btw, there have been no hardware changes to the system.Message Edited by zork77 on 03-03-20060:06 PM
    Update:
Ah-ha! The squealing starts when I go to switch headphones jacks. Suggesting...a physical malfunction within the card? Man I wonder what I did to fry my poor ol' audigy. Lol.Message Edited by zork77 on 03-03-20060:48 PM

  • Unflatten data using only the output from flatten to string

Using the Unflatten from String vi requires that you provide the type. This is not always possible - you may not know it (or you have a number to choose from). In a situation where the original data is flattened, then the Type String & Data string are clustered & flattened again, you have a common structure no matter what the source data. Unflattening will return the Type & Data strings of the original data, however I have seen no vi anywhere that either converts Type String to Type, or Unflattens data given only the Type & Data strings. How is either of these done?

You are asking too much from LabVIEW or any compiler for that matter. When the the datatype is unknown or undefined at compile time, it can't change the code to adapt to the incoming data. That is the programmer's job to do this and provide code to detect the incoming datatype and branch to appropriate routine to handle each datatype after it has been cast to a known type.
The compiler has to know the datatype before generating the code. Can you imagine executing your diagram in debug mode and see the wire change type from one iteration to the other as the incoming data changes type? That's the programmer that knows what datatypes are to be expected.
The original poster suggested to bundle typestring and flat data: you essentialy have
a structure similar to a variant. If you want to use undefined datatype, you should use variants instead of flattened strings since it includes the datatype. See my presentation on OpenG.org http://openg.org/tiki/tiki-index.php?page=2003-05-06+Group+Meeting

Means you still have the onboard sound turned on at a guess.

  • Imported concert from MainStage 2, trouble with stereo output.

    Hi everyone,
I've imported a concert from mainstage 2 in the newest 3. I don't know why but I found many trouble when setting the output of the project.
I'm using a Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP and when a stereo output is set, I see in mainstage the L-R indicator bars blink. Only the Left indicator works correctly, the Right continue blink and I have no output from that connector.
Has Anyone encountered the same issue? Can anyone help me, or could anyone drive me on the right-way to find an answer?
If more informations are needed just ask
    Thanks to everyone.

Ummm my apologies if I missed it, but Ive read through this thread and Im not sure if theres an answer to the original question. Ive got a similar situation, AVI out of PP3 with all sources stereo, the AVI sounds great in media player and is definitely stereo. Bring the AVI into Encore 2 and the resulting DVD is double mono using the left channel only heres the strange thing, I get the same results using Nero Vision Express. I am 100% sure the AVI is stereo, it includes clips from an old Beatles song where the old school stereo imaging put all of the vocals into the left channel and the instrumentals into the right, well, the instrumentals are gone on the DVD and Ive got nothing but vocals. Again, the AVI sounds fine, just for kicks I even burned the raw AVI to DVD and popped the disk into a set-top player and it played fine something is wrong with the transcoding and its a problem for both Encore and Nero. Any know whats up? Are we calling it a bug? Seems kind of serious if it is, the kind of bug that should keep a product from launching.

  • Imported files with stereo, output comes in one channel only

While being no expert in Encore or the jungle of transcoding settings, I still dare to ask.
I have imported a number of AVI files (exported with stereo sound from Ppro) into Encore 2.0. I have not touched any sound settings, but still my output (both in preview mode and the final DVD) produces sound only in the left channel. Baffeled as I am over this, I struggle to find some sensible explanation to the problem.
Any feedback would be appreciated as the project hopefully goes into production soon.

  • GD580 + Audigy 2 ZS + Digital Out 5.1 = only stereo

Alright, I didn't think this would be so complicated, but maybe it is. I just purchased a Creative Inspire GD580 5.1 surround speaker setup. I have an Audigy 2 ZS PCI sound card. I want to connect the digitial out to my speaker setup using the digital out on my Audigy 2 ZS. My main reason for the surround setup is for gaming. So far I have only been able to get stereo sound with both gaming AND DVD movies.
Anyone who can enlighten me on how to do this, I would be very grateful.
    Thanks!

Optical and digital coax connections can't carry multichannel audio, only stereo. The only way to get multichannel via digital is if it is an AC3 bitstream. Creative also use a 4-pole connector that can carry multichannel digital but your speakers must have a digital DIN connection to use this feature. Otherwise for games, you must use the analogue connections. For your movies, you can use your digital connection, but you must select SPDIF output in the DVD software and select SPDIF pass through in the soundcard options. This way your speakers will decode the AC3 bitstream.
You might want to look at this: http://us.creative.com/support/kb/ar...p?l=2&sid=5035
A suggestion to Creative moderators: I think it would be a good idea for Creative to supply a guide with the sound cards and speakers on the various types of connections. Stuff like the capabilities/limitations of each connection and details on AC3 and the way games output audio. There seems to be so many people confused by the multitude of connection possibilities (I was at first).

  • Audio output from left channel only

My iPhone 5s (iOS 8.1.1) suddenly developed a problem with audio output last week after about 9 months of ownership. Through the headphone socket and Bluetooth streaming, only the left channel could be heard. I arranged an appointment at the Apple store and they confirmed after they carried out a restore (iOS 8.1.1) that there was only audio from the left channel. The phone was replaced under warranty.
My new phone was partially set-up in store and all I had to do was load my backup when I got home. I loaded the backup from my Mac and tested the audio output. To my surprise, the new phone had exactly the same problem as the one that was diagnosed as faulty in the Apple store i.e., audio output on the left channel only.  I contacted Apple support via chat and explained the issue. I was advised to test the new phone without my backup being loaded. I restored the phone and tested the output using both Bluetooth and the headphone socket and there was a stereo output as normal. I reloaded my backup and it returned to left channel audio only. I was advised to then reset the phone and this cleared the problem. Corrupt backup data??
What I can’t understand is that two phones exhibit an identical problem, with one being a hardware issue and the other apparently a software issue. Too much of a coincidence if you ask me.
Is it possible that an app could cause a problem leading to a hardware failure?

  • Analogue Stereo Audio Output from the New Mac Pro

Does anyone know what the analogue stereo audio output from the new Mac Pro is? From the specification, there appears to be a stereo output for headphones, but it is unclear what other audio outputs are available and whether a stand-alone amplifier is required to drive small stereo speakers. Yan (UK)

It is line-level. You will need powered speakers or an amplifier.

hi guys and gals, I'm thinking my audigy has finally kicked the bucket as i only get sound from of the two side channels, its not a cable or speaker issue, and can find no loose connection or burn through on the card, anyone had this problem is there some simple fix or should i just buy a new card :P
    Cheers

Wow, so after testing it in linux and not working, i thought to myself definitely something in the connections.
So I look at the sub/rear/front connectors and decide to just disconnect and reconnect them. Surely, enough the rear connector on the soundcard wasn't in all the way hence the only rear speaker working.
Well after spending a day on this and finding the very simple fix all i can say is DOH

  • Stereo sound from all speake

Hii, I have a X-Fi Xtreme music and a 5. speaker setup, can someone tell me how can I get stereo sound from all of my speakers? thanks in advance.

Hmmm, I don't have an X-Fi, but to answer your question the first thing someone needs to know is how you have your speakers connected. If, for example, you're running throgh a receiver you need to separately output each channel (using 3.5mm mini plug to RCA cables/converters you would buy at Radio Shack) to the external decoder of your receiver. Of course, in that insance, you would output the DD source stream from the optical out of the card through the optical in of the receiver; stereo playback would be from a 2. signal. I run both configs on mine. Now, if you're running computer speakers already plugged into the correct outputs of the sound card that's a different question, and it's one I can only relate from my experience with the Audigy 2 software.

  • Can the microphone jack input be configured for a stereo signal from a tape deck without overloading

Can the Microphone jack input on the HP Pavilion dv6  be configured to take in a stereo signal from a tape deck without overloading the microphone jack, i.e., so it acts as a Line In jack?.  The jack is too sensitive to accept the typical signal from a tape deck or stereo tape out jack from an audio receiver, and the incoming sound is overloaded and distorted.  Also, connecting from a stereo receiver headphone jack so the level can be controlled to the laptop microphone jack lowers the signal strength but contains a lot of background hum.  Any way to configure the microphone jack to have it work as a line in jack?

There're two ways to connect it. One is through the digital output ( which is the same as the front line out on the Audigy and is a different jack on the Audigy 2 series ) or through the front line out.
In either case, you need a stereo mini-plug to phono x 2 connector adapter cable.
In the case of a digital connection, only one of the plugs will carry the signal. For analogue connections, simply plug the two phono outputs into the L/R phono inputs on yer receiver.
