Audigy 2 ZS Value dropping sounds in Dawn of

I recently purchased an Audigy 2, and upon installation, Dawn of War no longer played unit sounds. Prior to this I had a SB Li've Value under which sounds play perfectly.
All other sound effects and music play normally, its only Unit acknowledgments, taunts and the like. The DOW community hasn't acknowledged this as a problem since only one other person has reported the error. Any idea?

A few things for you to think about are PCI latency and the type of sound the game uses. The older SB Li've Value doesn't do in-game EAX effects in hardware like a ZS or regular Audigy 2, but in software like onboard solutions do - which is why in most situations onboard always usually sounds ok but if you turn on EAX you get some CPU overhead. I would try disabling EAX (in game) if you're using it and see if there is any difference, and also check out the PCI latency tool and if your soundcard is 32 by default try raising it to 64. To be honest i'm not really sure there is actually a "ZS Value" but i know there is a regular "audigy 2 value" (which has a smaller PCB footprint). Dropping sounds can also be caused by not having a PCI card - most especially a sound card that's not in an optimal PCI slot IRQ wise (you might be sharing and IRQ with another device) - not that it always causes issues because usually it doesn't but sometimes does. I know i have had to move a few soundcards to different PCI slots for various reasons.

  • Audigy 2 Value - No sound after installat

    Hi!
I recently bought a new SB Audigy 2 Value card. After installation there were no sound. I read somewhere its hardly advice to reinstall operation system (XP with SP2) and then install the soundcard. I did this and I downloaded the driver update too, but unfortunately I didn't hear any sound. (According the diagnostic program everything is passed)
    What should be the problem?
    System spec:
    Abit BH7
    Intel P4 ,8 Ghz
    52 MB Ram
    Sapphire Ati Radeon 9200
    SB Audigy 2 Value

I had the same problem. I ordered a vaio recovery cd for my vaio and wiped the c: partition clean and started over. When I started to prepare for my Audigy 2 value installation...
I didn't uninstall any sound drivers. I just disabled the onboard audio before installation and then I installed the sound card along with the drivers included on the cd-- it worked! Afterwards, I started to install all the other stuff like my drivers for the video card, etc.
    Not sure if that hel
    ps.
Especially considering that I'm running into other problems now that I think may be related to the sound card itself.
If you have time and the patience. You could put aside some time to start over if you're desperate like I was. It took me about two hours to get everything back to the way it was with some backup data and whatnot.

You just can't record analog mono instruments as stereo without a stereo microphone.
If you mean to record a signal which 'stays in the middle' and not 'panned left or right' then you need
    - mono to L+R (stereo) convertor adapter
    or
    - mono to R+L (stereo) cable
between (pre)amplifier output and soundcard input.
<i>Note: Normally instruments are recorded mono --> easier to set instrument positions in final stereo mix</i>.
    ) yes it is stereo
    2) no game/midi on Value. Purchasing Digital I/O won't make any difference to this.
    3) dunno, see yoyr user manual

  • Audigy 2 Value sound problems with ga

While playing games, my sound randomly becoms crackly and screechy, and then there is no music playing, just sound effects. A while later, there will be more cracking and screeching and the music will return. I belei've this happens when the computers cooling fan switches from low to high, and vice versa, but I have not confirmed this. I am using an HP pavilion a465c.

You can see a comparison chart on this page:
    http://us.creative.com/products/prod...95&nav=compare
The SNR (Signal To Noise Ratio) quality on the Audigy 2 Value is slightly lower than the Audigy 2 ZS.

It really depends on what you're doing and your speaker configuration.
If it is cheap in comparison to other price checking, it may be worth it.
I have the exats same board and used the onboard sound for a few months until I got sick of it not doing what I was used to like the MCP-T southbridge of the NF1 & 1 (Soundstorm) I wasn't using digital out and I have the speakers in my signature. With my TV card, I was unable to get sound in all 4 speakers correctly and I was unable to control the bass. I had tried both the drivers from the CD and the latest Realtek drivers.
I just did not like it much at all so I had a SB live 5.1 card I had lying on a shelf. I downloaded the latest drivers with the same skepticism as TireSmoke has. My findings are that the drivers have greatly improved and you don't have to install the bloated utilities that are associated with Creative drivers. It worked the way I wanted it to for the most part without any issue.
What I found is the onboard sound seems a little deeper and warmer as opposed to the Creative solution but I was willing to give that up for the functionality. The Creative sounds a little stronger in the midrange and highs and the Bass was just slightly muted but still acceptable.
I then graduated to the Audigy 2 ZS in my signature and the sound is slightly better and I have to say that Creative is doing a better job with the drivers. I did install with all the options just to see what impact it all has. I have to say, my only complaint is the look and feel of the interfaces still look a little cheesy but I have the option to disable most of that or simply not install any of it except the drivers.

  • Audigy 2 Value ed. poor sound qual

    Greetings Creative forum community.
I bought an Audigy 2 value card a few years ago at my staples when it was on sale. Recently I completed a project to digitize a stack of records on behalf of my boss. I figured it would be a good idea to pull the card out so I could do it right with a true line in.
Well, the line in worked just fine, and although the transfer, normalization, track splitting, and burning was tedious, I got it all done.
The problem is, whenever I play sound back through this card, it sounds really bad unless I back the 'play control' slider down (this seems to be the same slider as master volume for most cards). It's hard to even describe the way it sounds - it's not distortion in the traditional sense, it's like a huge spike in the upper midrange, which makes everything sound incredibly honky, like it's being played through a tin can. When I back the slider down to about 50%, it cleans up, but it still sounds thinner than I think it should, and is well below line-level (as referenced by my other components).
My current setup? is this card into a Hafler series 95 preamp into a onkyo m-505 power amp.
As a side question, do any of you know of a card that will output a true line level? I am sick of this mixer garbage. I have components to take care of that.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

well for giggles i took my card out and used the onboard sound to see it there was any difference.
the onboard is AC97 realtek. the shotgun and quake4 sounds were much better. all the sounds were there but of course it did not sound as rich as audigy does.
so my experiment showed that it is a driver problem. i am guessing no one else has had this problem.

  • Sound blaster audigy 2 value doesn't play cd's

.sound blaster audigy 2 value doesn't play cd'sY I'm running win 2000 sp4 -- have 2 cd/dvd players/burners--using soundblaster audigy2 value sound card with software from original installation cd. When I try to play cd's using the mediasource player/orginizer it apperars to play but no sound is heard. It plays mp3 cd's fine but when i try to play a regular cda cd no sound is heard. Everything plays fine if I use windows media player.
It appears that the creative mediasource software is corrupted. I have tried removing and reinstalling it multiple times with the same result. It is mediasource version 2.02.59 and the drivers are version 2.9.6.
The sad thing is that is worked fine at one time but now it doesn't.
I have also run the auto update and tried the newer versin of mediaplayer(3.30.2) but that creates even more problems.

  • Audigy 2 Value, hap17v2k.sys, and the B

Hello. I would like to state that if this is not the place for this question please feel free to remove it, I just figured this would be the first forum I tried for this question.
So here it is: I own a SB Audigy 2 card, and I'm trying to play this game: http://agtp.romhack.net/doukutsu.html - only when I load it, it causes my computer to crash.
    Now for the long version:
I used to have an SB Audigy Gamer sound card, until I moved it into another computer and upgraded to this SB Audigy 2 Value card. I've played this game (which was built on DirectX 5, btw) with the old card and had no problems at all - though that was before I reformatted, so other settings and files may have changed. I can play other games fine - Final Fantasy 7 (uses DirectX 7), and even the newest stuff (Half-Life 2 - uses DirectX 9). This is the only game which does it.
    Exactly what happens is this; when the game first loads, there is no sound (the way the game is designed). Once the title screen comes up, where there is sound, a second or two later my computer crashes with the following error, and an annoying clicking or screeching sound loop playing over the speakers (as you would normally hear if sound was playing when the computer crashes);
    DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    Stop: 0x000000D (0x0000000, 0x00000007, 0x00000000, 0xB7C89B)
    hap7v2k.sys - Address B7C89B base at B7C6A000, Datestamp 4095DD7F
Well that's some of it anyway. I'm fairly certain it's due to the sound card because (a) in the properties for that .sys file it has Creative as the manufacturer, and (b), the game comes with a seperate program for listening to the music files - running this program is fine, but as soon as you try to listen to the music - it crashes... same error.
Here's what I've done so far:
    - Re-downloaded and reinstalled the game
    - Uninstalled and reinstalled the sound card
    - Uninstalled all PCI cards except for the sound card, and reinstalled the sound card
    - Verified that Windows, all my drivers, and BIOS are up to date (including the audigy drivers)
    - Verified that the sound card is not sharing an IRQ, or any other types of resources
    - Tried the game with various Windows XP compatibility settings (Win95, etc.), reinstalled DirectX, messed with the sound card's hardware acceleration (all the way off and all the way on).
I think that covers it all - also I do have an open discussion with Creative's support, trying something new every day now but I'm hoping someone here can help even a little bit.
I've run all the dxdiag tests and they've all passed, but here is the output if it's any help; http://www.eaglemaint.com/link/DxDiag.txt
Lastly, my system specs at a glance:
Asus A7M266-D motherboard, Socket A chipset
Two .53 GHz AMD MP 800+ processors
256 MB nVidia GeForce 6800 GT
    .5 GB PC200 DDR
    250GB and 30GB HDDs
    Two 52x CD-RWs
    4-port Asus USB PCI card
3 Linksys 0/00 Ethernet PCI cards
    550 Watt Antec PSU
I think that's all the important stuff. I've done searches here in these forums, on google (only a handful of sites even mention that .sys file, so I can't find any information on it), and in creative and microsoft's support websites. If you have any ideas at all on what might be wrong or what I could try to fix it, please let me know. My AIM name is "The Eagle Maint" if you'd prefer that, or my email is [email protected].
Thanks ahead of time for any help anyone may be able to give, and let me know if there is anything else I can provide... I'm sure I'm missing something.
    -Mathew Tate

I'm not sure if the drivers are compatible between the two cards.
Recently when I uninstalled the audigy 2 and put in my old audigy card, I didn't remove the drivers first - upon restarting, the computer recognized my audigy with the audigy 2's drivers. It seemed to work ok, but I installed the normal audigy drivers anyway.
The catch is, well - the reason I really contacted support in the first place - when I had my audigy 2 card installed (with the audigy 2 drivers from the CD) I couldn't install the driver updates for my audigy 2 from the creative website. Basically, the online auto-update feature wasn't working, and when I manually downloaded the programs and ran them, they said that I didn't have an audigy 2 card installed. I got that resolved with support after they suggested that I download the audigy 2 'value' drivers - I had been trying to get the regular audigy 2 drivers (not value) before that... so basically, I think the audigy 2 can only take the drivers that I have installed now.
I suppose it is just some kind of incompatability, it just kind of baffles me because it used to work fine on my old audigy, and you said you've tried it with your audigy 2 and have no problem... computers can be such a pain.
Anyway, thanks for the help, I guess I should just be thankful everything else works ok.Message Edited by The_Eagle_Maint on 07-05-2005 04:25 AM

  • SB Audigy 2 Value Specificati

    Hello, all,
I tried to get my SoundBlaster Audigy 2 Value to work under Linux, yesterday. However, it would not work at all, and the device wasn't being recognized at all.
After a bit of investigation, I determined that this particular Audigy 2 identifies itself differently than the Audigy , Audigy 2 ZS, Li've!, and similar cards (they all use device ID's of either 0x0002 and 0x0004, whereas the Audigy 2 Value uses 0x0008).
I hacked up the Linux driver a bit so that it would detect my card as an Audigy 2, but I still get no positi've results. I investigated a bit further, and discovered that the card is *claiming* to be using Revision 0 of the emu0k chipset. Now, all other Audigy 2's claim to use revision 4 of the emu0k2.
WTF. I'm getting the feeling that I've been ripped off. I expected this thing to be a real Audigy 2, not a board that looks like an Audigy 2 with some other chipset.
So, if this card really has an Emu0K or Emu0K2 processor, please tell me exactly which it is. If not, I'd really love to know which chipset this card is actually using so I can write an appropriate driver for it (or exchange it for something else, if it's some POS 3rd-party chipset).
    Thanks.

I would also like to know whether it uses the same DSP as the Audigy 2 series (emu0k2). I would have bought a secondhand Audigy if this was the case. To the OP, I remember reading a review comparing the Value to a prototype version. If you look at the board, after the words "Sound Blaster Audigy 2" a space that used to be "004" is painted over with gold paint. Also if you look at the chip, it's a CA008 revision, whereas the ZS was an earlier CA002 revision and the Audigy LS was CA006. There's a small wire soldered on even that is rerouting a trace... Could that possibly be disabling some of the ZS functionality? Who knows. If you suspect otherwise, e-mail me @ [email protected] I definitely don't mind if I am getting more than I paid for, but I would like to know if I am getting ripped off. So again Creative, does the Audigy 2 Value use the same chipset as the Audigy 2 series?Message Edited by WiCKeD on 02-28-2005 09:32 PM

  • Error trying to run Audigy 2 Value driver inst

I recently purchased an OEM Audigy 2 value sound card that came with no driver installation CD. I have tried three times to download the drivers from the creative website and every time I have come up with this error while it is extracting:
    File error CRC, 0xf3b0b7f:0xeb4fd5b
I am installing this to a brand new computer that has never had any sound card on in it. The on board sound is still running if that makes a difference.
I have looked throughout the forum with no avail. Any help on this would be very much appreciated.

I have the EXACT same problem... I can't seem to get anywhere with it either.
I've noticed a few such posts on the forum, but unforunately there have been no replies.
If anyone out there knows a workaround, please let us know!

  • Audigy 2 Value and Windows 7 64bit driver don't work

my first Audigy SE before Audigy 2 Value (SB0400) worked perfect on Windows 7 64bit
with Audigy 2 Value SB0400 i tried 3 drivers , including the beta from the creative support , original and daniel_k driver and after reboot the windows hangs at LOGO and stays there.

Re: SB Audigy 2 ZS and Windows 7 - Full Package driver?T While Creative has written new drivers and some applications for Windows 7/Vista for the Audigy, they have not re-written or updated all of the original applications on the CD. This card is very old now. What Daniel K. did was take all of the applications or most of them, and tweaked them to properly install and include themselves in the registry on operating systems other than Windows XP. For the full and most recent package, check here:
    http://forums.creative.com/t5/Sound-...009/td-p/53838
If the application you want is not included in his package, then you can try downloading the official Creative version and install it on your system in "compatibility mode" by right clicking the file, and choosing properties, and then the compatibility tab and choosing "Windows XP service pack 2 or 3" and it may or may not function.

  • Audigy 2 Value left channel stopped working *complete

    Sony Vaio pcv-rs530

    Gb Ram
    All-In-Wonder ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 28mb
Windows XP Home Edition v02' Service Pack 2
    Logitech Z-5300e 5. Speaker system
I've had my audigy 2 value for about two months now. I managed to install it after a huge adventure of wiping my c: dri've after my first failed installation which ended me with no sound and no hope of restoring it back to normal, except the wipe, of course. It worked for a while, two months, but then I was having issues with my video card, possibly due to overheating because my audigy 2 value was one empty slot away from it and the circulation of air was not enough to keep it cool.
I stopped getting video related crashes after I put my sound card to the last slot, effecti'vely taking out my fax/modem, which I never used in the first place, in order to put the audigy 2 in the last slot, farthest away from my ATI AIW Radeon 9800 Pro. That little modem was blocking the last slot, making it impossible to put my sound card there. Then I noticed a few days later that my front left speaker was not working. I switched the speakers around, and everything worked except for the speaker plugged into the green line ouput, more specifically, the left front speaker never worked.
I'm currently using Logitech's z-5300e 5. speakers system, and they worked fine up until recently where the front left channel will not work. I tested it out on my xbox, and the speakers work fine. Both left and right speakers were okay. I took out my old desktop speakers that came with my vaio and plugged it into the green line output, and even then the left speaker didn't work. The same thing happened when I plugged my headphones in. The left earphone never worked. Both the old and new speakers and the headphones work properly otherwise (when not plugged into the audigy 2). I'm thinking my line output left channel has stopped working on the sound card itself.
I noticed that if I pushed the speaker plug into the outlet halfway, the front left speaker worked, but when I tested the calibration -- the voice matching said "front right" through the front left speaker. Even with all the speakers connected in any configuration, there was never a mention of a "front left" speaker. I concluded that the front left channel on the audigy 2 has stopped working.
Is this assumption correct? If so, wow. How would I go about fixing this? Does it have something to do with the slot switching? I reinstalled the drivers and programs for the audigy 2 after I switched. Although it did not seem to have a problem with me switching the slots even when I didn't uninstall anything. It detected the hardware switch, and everything worked fine. Should I try switching back to the other slot and hope my video card doesn't become one with my motherboard? The warranty has expired on my audigy 2 value, and I don't think I'll be compensated if I have no warranty, correct? All the drivers are updated, and it <EM>has</EM> worked before.
I've heard of other people's audigy 2 values that have had other channels just fizzle out in a few months. Am I one of them? Any information would be really helpful! Thanks.Message Edited by Paulie on 05-2-2005 06:30 AM

If you're sure noone was funny and turned down the left channel in advanced tab of Surround Mixer for instance, perhaps the connector loosened on the board or the soldering went bad; since your warranty expired (check with the store first!) I'd have someone who knows his way with electronics and soldering irons have a look at it.
PS I have the Audigy 2 Value as well; so far it works good but had I known it was treated like the ugly little kid in the Creative family that noone really likes to deal with i'd have gotten the ZS.Message Edited by Marco on 05-2-2005 0:2 PM

"How can you replace differences on hardware (just look the component differences (ADC/DAC/...) with software only" if you meant your card would be better with this soft mod? Soft mod = ~ you can use Audigy 4 software with your Audigy 2 card. Perhaps you may get couple of new properties in use or new looking interface, nothing else.
You can use the drivers intented for A4 with A2, but these will not improve your card sound quality more than the A2 drivers would do. Wanna try? --> DL the latest Audigy 4 driverset and install it using ctzapxx -method (you can even install E-MU drivers for your card but those seem to be older than these Audigy ones).

Having major lockup problems after installing Audigy 2 Value card and software. Running 3.00ghz gig ram 95 mobo 6600 gt pci express XP sp2 - all was well with the world. Disable on board sound in bios, insert card, restart, disable Norton internet security, cancel windows found new hardware wizard, Creative Installation disc in D dri've start/run/ d:\ctrun\start.exe and.......once it gets past running installshield the whole lot locks up chronic.
The only way i could get going again was to run the 'last known good config' after F5 on boot. Have tried letting windows wizard install with the same result.
Wondering if its anything to do with the PCI express card or maybe i'm missing something.
    Help.................anyone!

    Hi Jason,
Had a look at the article but i am like another on this page - the whole system locks up - ie cant do anything except turn the machine off and boot in safe mode or last known good config - if you leave the card in the machine it locks up on every boot.
