Audigy 2ZS: "No Audio Device&qu

Some of the time, I get sound perfectly fine. At seemingly random times, however, I lose sound completely in most programs. The only place I can hear sound is using Winamp and the DirectSound mixer.
When I go to the sound control panel in Windows, it says "no audio device" and most options are greyed out. My sound card device is still listed in the hardware manager, however, and the drivers are updated and listed as running fine.
If I restart my computer, I get sound again until it randomly goes silent.
Here are my system specs:

My wife has the same issue.
Might be related to the new install of a Logitech Quickcam Pro 500, or games download from "Real Arcade" service.
randomly, sound from certain applications goes dead.
PC is winXP SP 2
dxdiag (direct x is 9.0c) sound testing fails - you hear no sound, and the dxdiag then shows an error message.
In addition, some SB audigy applications now show certain sound devices missing.
Still trying to get to the bottom of this, will post details.

Audigy shares IRQ with IDE controller and firewire controller. This is not good.
NOTE: I suppose you're running your PC on "Standard PC" -mode (since IRQ's >5 not showing). If so, you can try to assign IRQ for the PCI slot, Audigy is installed, manually from BIOS. See your motherboard manual page 4-26.
Can you check if your PC is running as "Standard PC" and not as "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" (Device Manager --> Computer). Make it "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" --> you get more IRQs (virtual) in use.
NOTE: You may need to reinstall OS to get this done.
Also you may need to enable APIC mode on BIOS.
    How To:
    A) Go to 'Device Manager' a short cut to get there is "Right Click" on the My computer Icon on your desktop (Control Panel --> System --> Hardware),
    B) Next click on 'Computer', then double click on 'Standard PC'. Then select 'Driver' and then 'Update Driver'.
    C) At this point you will see a screen pop up asking you to do this "Automatically" or Select 'Display a list of the known drivers for this device', - Choose this option.
    D) Next you will see - 'Show all hardware of this device class'. Now you can select "ACPI Uniprocessor PC" in the list shown in the window to the right.
    E) Now Windows needs/will re-start and re-install all hardware/ settings needed to run in this configuration.

  • Midi/audio sync prob after sblive to audigy 2zs upgrade

Have posted the following earlier today in Soundblaster forum - then thought it may be better off here.....
Hi all - have just had to quickly buy new soundcard as main line-out on sblive gave up the ghost, after years of no probs. Bought Audigy 2zs, as thought this would not be too much of a shock for ageing AMDk6 450mhz running Win98se. (Am waiting for new pc music system.) Installed Audigy, using 1xm1n's excellent set-up guide, and thought everything was ok. However, when running sequencer, the midi tracks are fine, while the audio slowly goes out of sync. Can anybody explain what's happening? Would not normally panic, and wait for new pc, but have a deadline to finish project for the Barmy Army !!
Seriously thinking of reinstalling sblive, and using the rear line-outs to monitor on - but line-in & mic will then not work. Also was hoping the Audigy ASIO drivers would let me do the final mix in Cubase.
Did I mention the odd crackle & pop....? .....Aaaaaaargh!!
    Regards.

    Jason,
Yes I tried pulling card. What has happened.
. Card was "re-found" by windows for no reason which started the problems.
    2. I deleted driver in control panel, shutdown and pulled card, rebooted again with no card.
    3. Put the card back and rebooted again and at that point it showed as Audigy ZS, although it did not look like all functionality was there as before.
    4. So I installed the new January 06 drivers. Seemed to go okay.
    5. Upon reboot, came up as Creative Audigy Audio Processor" again. However things "worked" for a while. The mixer came up, etc.
    6. Seemed to be working, then stopped working (no sound)....and upon a reboot, was re-found again and was using old generic drivers from 2003. And was no longer called a ZS.
    7. EDIT: Important, in the "sound and audio" devices in control panel, it is listed as an EMU0k (or some such designation) which I understand may mean the card has gone bad.
    8. The network fiber connection also periodically came up as yellow exclamation mark or working based on what was going on above.
It appears that these problems may be symptoms the card is going bad based on some other posts I found? Something about a scrambled EPROM? I do have a new unused Audigy ZS card I can try.
What is the best approach to put in another ZS. Delete the driver, shutdown, pull the card and put the new one in? And of course plug in the breakout box to it. Will it "find" the new January 06 drivers upon install or will I have to re-install those again on this new card. I know it is the same card but I assume the ID will be different.
If I need to re-install the drivers, do I just re-run the install or do I need to run CTZAP etc. first? I already have all the applications loaded off the original CD and would prefer not to have to do all that again...
    Thanks again,

  • Win XP finds no audio device after installing Audigy 2

After installing Audigy 2 ZS, my Windows XP could no longer identify an audio device. Under Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices, clicking on the Audio tab, there is no Default Device for playback or whatsoever.
However, under the Hardware tab, Audigy 2 ZS is visible and seems to work fine. The only suspicious part I caught is that when I check for Properties of Audigy 2 ZS and go down to check Properties of Creative Audigy Audio Processor (WDM), the status shows "The di'ver is enabled but has not been started." I have no idea how this can be fixed.
The integrated sound card is turned off in the BIOS.
I've tried all possible ways to install, uninstall, install..., but just couldn't get XP to work properly. Any other possible solutions out there?
    Many thanks!

Solved after reinstalling Win XP. Wasted too much time on trying other possible solutions.
Hope other people may learn something out of it.

No it does not, as long as you do as follows: (Instructions are copied over from my previous posts on the subject)
How to manually change the Windows HAL:
Use the following command: "expand d:\i386\halacpi.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll"
Whereas: <EM>d:</EM> is your CD-ROM letter, or where you Windows XP Installation resides.
halacpi.dl_ can be any of the following depending on what you want to install:
"Standard PC", Non-ACPI PIC HAL (<EM>Hal.dll</EM>)</LI>
"MPS Uniprocessor PC", Non-ACPI APIC UP HAL (<EM>Halapic.dl_</EM>)</LI>
"MPS Multiprocessor PC", Non-ACPI APIC MP HAL (<EM>Halm
    ps.
    dl_</EM>)</LI>
"Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC", ACPI PIC HAL (<EM>Halacpi.dl_</EM>)</LI>
"ACPI Uniprocessor PC", ACPI APIC UP HAL (<EM>Halaacpi.dl_</EM>)</LI>
"ACPI Multiprocessor PC", ACPI APIC MP HAL (<EM>Halmacpi.dl_</EM>)
    </LI>
Offcourse, the HAL you should change to is Standard PC. You will lose Dual Core or HT support in the process, but I strongly believe it can help. As per above, you can switch back to your previous HAL without reinstalling. You will be most prolably asked for the drivers of your devices, but on my setup, it didn't, as they were already stored in Windows' System Folders.

  • "the audio device supported by this application is not detected&qu

OK so i have had a Audigy 2 ZS Platinum for like 2 years now. About 2 weeks ago the Mic stopped working so i tried updating the drivers to see if that would fix the problem it didn't. Then a couple of days ago i got a new case so while transferring all the hardware i decided to try putting the card in a different slot to see if that was the problem(i also deleted all the drivers and software before hand). So i did that started the comp up and installed the drivers and software using the original CD. Now that fixed my Mic it works fine now along with the sound, But if i try and use and of the creative software like the equalizer or EAX console i get the message. Now the sound and Mic work and if i goto my device manager the computer sees the card "Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS(WDM)", but i still get that error message. I also noticed that its a lot quieter now and i have to turn my speakers up a lot more to get the same noise level. Along with if i am playing a game (WoW specifically) and listening to music i get a crackling noise from my speakers. This doesn't happen if im just listening to music so i know its not the speakers.
OK thanks for reading my really long post any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro version and I have the exact problem.
It started?with the missing microphone, I unistalled and reinstalled the drivers from original CD. During the installation, I got error message that?the?installation?file _iss.dll was not found. Repeated installation of drivers with the same result. After the end of the installation, I am?getting same error message about audio device not detected.
Any ideas someone??I spent a good amount of money when I bought this sound card, thinking that I was buying a proper sound card from a respected company, which would give me good support when I would need it. Please don't prove me wrong....

    Thanks for your reply
I am sorry for the problem you are facing.
To achieve outputs from all the speaker during speaker test, you will need to have an analog connection, or digital DIN connection.
That will be possible if you connect the three line out jacks on your soundcard, to the three audio input (analog jacks->green,black,orange) on your speaker, if it has this connection. Or, you may connect them using Digital DIN, if they have this connection.
If you are using digital connection (coaxial, optical), there will be no way to achieve sound output from all the speakers during 5. speaker test, as they carry stereo signal.

Your soundcard is Audigy 2 ZS
Your speaker is Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500
You will need to have a 3:3 cable(with the color green, black, orange)
to connect your soundcard to your speaker, to achieve the 5. effects
    with games.
    Below is the connection:
    - Connect line out jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Front' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the green color
    connection
    - Connect line out 2 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Rear' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the black color
    connection
    - Connect line out 3 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Center/Subwoofer' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the
    orange color connection
Once you have done the correct connection, play the game DOOM3.
Ensure you have selected either the EAX or surround option in the game
    settings.
    Does it work?

    Thanks for your reply
All commercial digital connection eg. optical or coaxial cable will only
carry PCM stereo signal. If you want to output the signal to a surround
    5. with extra EAX environment effects, it will not be possible at all
since it is only restricted to stereo channel signal.
As per current industry limitations, we are bound to follow the standard
one-signal output for all our SPDIF and Optical output jacks. This is
something that is currently shared by all vendors for all products.
Please note that all games are not dolby digital, even they are , it
will require certain motherboard to encode it to dolby digital signal,
which our soundcard does not support.
You can only use analog connections to gain true 5. surround for
    gaming..

Subject: RE: CLE - Technical Support Request (KMM8875697I6636L0KM)
    Dear Martin
    Thank you for the reply.
Computer games written with support for 3D audio do not require a Dolby
Digital Interacti've Content Encoder (DICE) to output multichannel sound,
with no exceptions. Sound devices that support the real time encoder
technology from Dolby will simply receive the multichannel wave file
output and encode it in real time to a somewhat modified Dolby Digital
bitstream. Creative does not support the Dolby Digital Interacti've
Content Encoder on any of its sound cards.
The only difference between a Sound Blaster card and an audio card that
has a real time encoder, is that you can make a one-wire, digital
connection from your audio card to your home theater receiver and enjoy
discrete multichannel sound from the game. However there will be a
continuous, slight delay, known as "latency", as the encoder is creating
and transmitting the bitstream, and of course the compression scheme
being used is "lossy" (i.e. not bit-accurate).
If you want to enjoy 3D audio in 3D enabled PC games in multichannel
surround sound with a Sound Blaster card, it is recommended that you
connect the analog outputs of the sound card directly to the analog
inputs of the receiver. This will require 3 cables for 5. surround
sound, one for front right and left, one for rear left and right, and
another one for front center and subwoofer. Though it requires more
cables than a real time encoder system, it will not have any latency
issues. When connecting PC audio to a home theater receiver, Creative's
latest sound cards such as Sound Blaster Audigy, Sound Blaster Audigy 2
are likely to provide higher quality audio than any Dolby Digital real
time encode system available for the PC today.
Please retain all the previous correspondence when replying to this

    Hi
One particular game which has "in-game" DD is Farcry; I used this as my
benchmark disc for DD and to push my Nvidia 7800 GTX GPU's (I have tried
    it
on friend's machines and they get the full surround effect so I Know
    this
version is ok. I also have ALL of the game patches & updates.
I would like to point out that while playing Doom 3, Half Life 2,Fear,
    Colin
McRae rally 04,FIFA 2004,Meddle of honour pacific assault, Rome, Shadow
ops, All these games have EAX HD, which is enabled within the options
    menu
"in-game", But I do not get ANY use out of the rear's and I might as
    well
    listen in stereo.
No, inspire 5500 does not automatically switch while "in-game" when DD
is present as you would expect, but does if it was a Movie, which makes
    me
think the DD stream isn't getting to the processor.
I originally thought I could put all this to rest if I could buy the
    control
panel that would have come with the Sound card if I had not tried to
    save
money, but every time I search your accessories site I get completely
    lost,
it really isn't user friendly, the sub-menus are very time consuming and
point you in the wrong direction because they are not categorised as Joe
    public would understand
I downloaded your TEST Movies and creative demo player utility, ran it
    but
still no EAX HD or DD if that were present.
I want to put this card and Processor into my boys computer (which is
    the
same Spec as mine and I will update to the FX series, but I am unwilling
    if
I cannot find a logical reason why this set-up cannot work first.
Would it have anything to do with the pins on the Digital out on the
    sound
card plug, the one I bought and was attached to the last email? Only
    sending
certain channels down to the processor?
    Regards
    Martin

    Thanks for your reply
Your speakers are fine as you mentioned that there is sound from all the
speakers when you are playing movie.
May i know what game are you playing when there are no sound from the
    rear speakers?
Have you done the appropriate settings in the game to achieve the 5.
    sound?
Is there any game patches that you will need to update?
Does the Dolby Digital LED light up when you are playing the game?
Please retain all the previous correspondence when replying to this

The Din to a remotely located Subwoofer which has the speaker leads
    inputting into it. Plus power.
Attached is the creative view of the controls menu and I have attached
    the
invoice I was sent, it shows the lead I was told to fit.
As I said, I can now hear DD5. while within a movie from ALL speakers
    BUT
no sound from rears during IN GAME DD5.
I do not use this PC for films only games.
    Regards

If you are having a digital connection, it is normal for only get only
front left/right is you use the speaker test option.
    http://us.creative.com/support/kb/article.asp?l=3&sid=4858
Speaker test only outputs from two front speakers?
You mentioned that that you are unable to get any sound from the rear
speakers when playing game right? May i know are you using a digital
connection? May i know what speaker settings have been made under
    Creative Speaker settings?
Do get back to me on the above.
    Thanks

    Detailed Problem Description:
I have the above Sound card.
    I also own Inspire 5. amp/processor
I Wanted to save money by connecting above sound
    card to amp/processor
Connections on sound card made life very difficult
I contacted Creative for help. you told me to buy
an RCA to mini jack cord which also has other connections, from your
web site, (I tried to find
the product number for you, but your sub-menu
system is so poor I couldn't locate the RCA/mini
3.5 /to phono link for you) this cord connects
directly into the digital in, on the sound card (3.5 Mini jack) to the
    coaxial input on the
    inspire 5. amp/processor.
I have enabled ALL sp-diff settings and digital in
setting on every program/utility/kitchen sink and all.
I have an SP-Diff wire from DVD burner to creative
sound card, and yes its enabled and digital only
    is selected.
I can play a DVD and see the inspire 5.
automatically change from Pro-logic to Dolby
digital when it See's an AC-3 stream.
when I try and play ANY game you say has EAX
,2,3,4 I cannot get any sound from my rear
speakers (see above in Dolby Digital ALL speakers
    work correctly)
when I enter the set-up menu within the creative
software you supply with the sound card and select
    5. speaker, digital only, test the speakers via
the white noise function, all i hear is left and
right noise. no centre, no rears.
I phoned you tech support line, the boy on the
phone didn't have much of a clue about your
product and I had to tell him what connections sit
on the inspire 5. series amp/processor.
I want to build another PC for my son, I want to
add the FX series sound card and amp, but i am not
willing to buy anything until i feel you have
helped me to solve this problem first.
please can you help, I am at the end of my tether
    with this sound card.
    kind regards

  • Problems transferring music from turntable to computer with Audigy 2ZS Plse He

I originally had Sound Blaster PC28. I have installed last year Audigy 2ZS with 6 analog plugs and updated regularly. Everything is fine from burning to playing music of any format allowed. However, last week I tried to transfer vinyl music to my computer using Sony Sound Forge Version 8 and nothing works. Here's what I did. Luxman Turntable connected with ground to LINE IN ( in DENON amp ) and in the AUX output I have 2 Monster cables boing to my computer twinned on goldplaited /8 jack which is connected to the second (from right) LINE IN in the sound card. This done while referring to Manual & Getting Started Demo Creative program in the software. NO SOUND AT ALL COMES IN the computer - while the music is playing qell on my audio system player. I've done all kind of adjustment with the Microsoft Volume Play & Recording Controls and with Creative Mixer.
I can only distinguish on Sony Sound Forge two volume bars that there is some faint connection fluttering . I still tried to record but upon playback, there is no visual waving lines illustrated in SoundForge window nor sound played back. I expected that. What am I doing wrong or is Audigy 2ZS not suitable for such ? FYI, I tried the other5 jacks on the sound car ( adjusting to WHAT U HEAR or LINE IN controls ) .
The infos in Creative manual and software demo show the 2nd jack of analog sound card from the right being used as a LINE IN for cassette, synthesizer & cd player ( Iguess it goes also for truntable ? - i tried with cd player and it does not work either ) Third jack from the right is only for microphone (also tried but does not work either) . Sorry for lenghty description, I tried all I could . Am retired 7 yrs old and i wish to transfer all my jazz vinyls to puter inorder to make cds. Kindest to All for your help. Merci beaucoup !

    Connections:

(if you want to play back through Denon amp, --> [Audigy line-out [_(out)-->(in)_[Denon line-in (playback or aux-in)].
    Software settings:
    Creative CT Mixer
    - enable Wave and Line-In sources, set level to 50-00&#37;
    - set .Rec source to AnalogMix(), set level to 50-00&#37;
    - find the best levels (I normally have these set as: line-in = 70&#37; (.rec = 00&#37; if not using ASIO drivers))
    SoundForge:
    - (depending on device driver mode you're using and which A2ZS model you have there), set input to AnalogMix() (w/ ASIO) or just select the one meant for Line-In,
    - set recording levels

  • Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro - ...trying to record with Videostudio, Virtual VCR, Roxio DVD Builder

...just bought (and installed) a SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro - the one with the "breakout box" - to replace the on-board Dell audio sound system, which seems to have died after 4 months.
I am able to get good, clear sound from any and all applications that use "playback" audio.
At present, I can get "playback sound" from one program feature that came with my capture device - an Aver Media USB 300, which was plugged in to the "Line in 2" socket on the break out box. Then I tried to record with it... - "Record Operation Failure!" I'm stilll waiting to see what responses I get from the Aver message board in that regard.
Then I tried recording video (and the accompanying audio) with Ulead Videostudio 8, Virtual VCR, and Roxio DVD Builder, none of which could record sound, even in "preview mode". Before the on board sound system stopped functioning, those features worked on all of the above programs except for Virtual VCR, which I hadn't yet installed or tried out.
I've checked the Play/Record Volume Control in "Accessories/Entertainment" and the Line 2 is activated and selected. I've tried plugging in to Line /Mic but that hasn't worked either. I need to go to Radio Shack to get an adapter to plug in to Line 3 and give that a try.
But before I spend even more money, have you ever seen anything like this?
    - Jeff.

    Jorge,
Thanks kindly for the suggestion, during the installation it did not complain about this patch being installed allready, I'll give this one more shot and see if it persits.
I ran memtest on the machine (10 cycles) wow this thing (G5) is loud in single user mode. I guess the fans don't have power management enabled.
I'm guessing that the issue is from lack of RAM, (512) but I am not 100% on this. Though my research points towards that, It's kind of odd that an app would reach into some other memory segment.
    Thank You Again.
I throught all Tiger updates would be obtainable via "Software Update" . I should have searched support.apple.com first.
Quad G5 Mac OS X (10.4.7) 512MB Ram (Stock Config)

  • Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro in Vista x64: "Skipping" (Distortion) when record

Hi! I've just setup Vista x64 and installed the latest Drivers for my Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro. Besides the fact that there's no software available for convenient control of the features of my soundcard (Surround Mixer, Speaker Settings, THX Console etc.), everything is fine for playback (after adjusting the bass and treble-sliders to their 0dB-Position!). But I've got a massive problem when recording audio, or when using the microphone: I can play back sound from any source without distortion, but when recording it or using the microphone for VoIP-Applications like Skype, Teamspeak or In-game communication, I get a constant "skipping" distortion like the clicking when a CD is defective and skips.
It sounds like short disruptions which come at regular, very short intervals (approx. 0 per second or so). This effect is always present, irrespective of the load situation of the system and does not change with it. In XP32, my Audigy 2ZS still works like a charme. Furthermore, I've got a "PCI Input Device" in Device Manager with a question mark, although the Firewire-Port does work. Could this be the Gameport not beeing recognised But that's not nearly as problematic as the flaw from above... Thanks in advance for your advice!

I'd like to also add that I have been observing this same problem for quite some time now. While I do not frequently have a need to record, that is changing now and I would rather not have to reboot to Windows XP in order to have functional recording capabilities.
I am currently running a dual-boot configuration of Windows XP/SP2 and Windows Vista Ultimate 64-Bit/SP, with the Audigy 2 ZS Platinum soundcard, and the latest drivers available for the card as of today's date (0/7/2008).
A clip of audio to illustrate the problem may be heard by saving and playing the MP3 file found at http://ambress.com/audigy/audio_recording_fault.mp3. The following graphic also illustrates how the sound is like a series of recorded pulses, making recording completely useless.
I would greatly appreciate any feedback confirming this problem by Creative and what solution is available or when one is to be expected. If a solution is known by any users that perhaps I have missed in searching the forum, of course I'd be grateful for that help as well.
    Thank you,
    Daryl
