Audigy 4, difficulty with 24/96 ASIO recording

I just purchased an Audigy 4 (SB0610, not Pro) with the intention of using it fir 24-bit recording with n-Track Studio (24-bit). When I'm in n-Track and select the Audigy 4 24/96 ASIO [D000] drivers, I can only get input from the left side of the line-in. Furthermore, when I make certain changes to audio settings in n-Track, I will lose even that input until I use the surround mixer to disable / re-enable the line input.
Is this *supposed* to work? Or am I barking up an incorrect tree?
The WDM driver does work and give me both left and right channels, but I'd like to use the ASIO driver if possible to reduce latency.
So far, I've tried changing my recording source in the mixer. I've tried disabling all loaded programs and unnecessary system services (via msconfig) and I use the auto update feature to update the Creative drivers. The update process itself was a little wierd because it didn't install the Audigy 4 drivers (only the audio console app) until I dug in to the installed programs and ran the driver installation manually.
It seems that if I change my speaker configuration to anything less than 5.1 (2.0, 2.1 etc), then I lose even the left channel. 6.1 and 7.1 give me the same results as 5.1, only left channel and no right.
I've also disabled non-essential system hardware to free up IRQs. I've even replaced the motherboard with an identical model (I found I had bad caps.)
Anyway, I can't seem to get the 24/96 ASIO under control. I also seems unstable as it will trap n-Track from time to time.
The mobo is EpoX 8KHA+, AMD Athlon 1900+, Windows XP SP 2.
Thank you greatly for any help!!!!!!!!

Thank you very much for the reply. The relevent parts seem to be:
(Note that in 24 bit 96KHz mode the inputs are limited to the analog input pairs.)
I'm in 24/96 mode because I picked the 24/96 ASIO driver for both recording and playback in n-Track Audio Devices, correct?
After selecting that driver, I tried to select a sample rate of 96000 in n-Track, but no radio button was selectable. I assume that's because the driver is determining the sample rate, correct?
• ASIO inputs 1 and 2 come from the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 eX Drive Line In 2 stereo input;
!! My NOTE: AnalogMix(Line-In/Aux-In/analog CDAudio/PC (W-U-H)/TAD/...)
In the n-Track settings, I only have one selectable input "SB Audigy 4 ASIO [D000]." Is it safe to assume that this represents the "AnalogMix" of all those physical inputs? If so, them I'm doing the right thing and I still don't know what's wrong. (BTW, what's W-U-H?)
This also may be relevent:
• ASIO inputs 15 and 16 come from the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 eX Drive Line In 1/Mic In stereo input;
• ASIO inputs 17 and 18 come from the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 eX Drive Line In 3 stereo input;
Are these the "analog input pairs" you referred to above? If so, are "Line in 1" and "Line in 3" the left and right channels on the blue connector on the back of my card? It seems kinda hokey to split a stereo signal across two ASIO channels, one of which is not selectable.
I'm not getting it yet. A block diagram would be very handy. Please help me understand.
Thanks again.

  • Audigy 2 ZS 24/96 ASIO Recording

    INTRODUCTION
Is Audigy 2 ZS capable of 24/96 asio recording? Yes, it is. You will have analog mix (line in) and vst soft synths available for recording, listening and export as audio mixdown. The sound is crystal clear and you'll have a fine 24 bits and 96 khz song. If you want to have real professional recording you should have a soundcard with professional DACs and so you should consider buying an EMU card.
HOW TO DO IT? I'll use Cubase Sx 1.0.5 as reference. The names may differ but the main process is similar for newer versions of Cubase.
Open Cubase SX and under Devices - Devices Setup - VST Multitrack choose SB Audigy 2 ZS 24/96 as your Asio Driver. Untick "Release ASIO Driver in Background" and "Direct Monitoring", select a useful latency in Control Panel (less than 10 ms is good), hit Ok, Apply and Ok again.
Open a new project (empty) and under Devices - VST Inputs activate only Analog Mix (remap if asked). You're almost ready to rock.
    AUDIO
Add an audio track (mono or stereo) and select your input (analog mix).
Now, check your Creative Mixer inputs: you must have Line In unmuted (and at 58% for best sound quality) and you must select Analog Mix at 50% (0 db) in your Rec slider. Check your Audio track in Cubase if you have monitoring signal. You can activate the track monitoring button for listening to any Vst Effects that you want to apply in your track (like reverb, delay...). Arm your track for recording and hit the record button (or * tab) and you'll have your sound recorded (guitar, voice...).
    VST SYNTHS
Add a midi track, select your VST instrument (under Devices) and, in your midi track, choose I/O Midi SB Audigy 2 ZS as your Midi In and your VST Instrument as your Midi Out. Don't forget to enable Midi Thru Active under File - Preferences to have sound in your midi track.
After recording your song you can export your audio mixdown and you're done. Export it as Stereo Interleaved and include Automation and Effects.
    SOUNDFONTS
You'll not be able to record them to audio, or listening to them when you export your audio mixdown.
    VERIFYING RATES
Open your Creative Media Player and open any audio file you've record in Cubase (you''l have it in your Cubase project folder) and you'll see that it's a native 24/96 audio file.
Hope this will help everyone who wants to make good homerecording, without having to spend a lot of money in a professional board.

I thought the file format were automatically set to 24-bit when the ' SB Audigy 2 ZS 24/96' ASIO driver is choosen. How can I set it to 24-bit?
And another question: why do you said that none of the Audigy series cards are good with 16-bit/44.1 kHz quality? In fact, what would be the difference between a recording made with an Audigy and with some others professional audio cards?
    Again, thanks a lot!!!
Cubase SX --> Recording bit depth and SR can be set on Project settings.
1st, Creative Soundblaster cards are not pro cards but just consumer cards, intented for multimedia and gaming use. Creative pro cards comes from EMU brand. This information comes from Creative web pages.

  • Audigy 2 zs MIC ASIO recording problem?

I'm using Sonar 4 to simply record some voices through a micphone. I set the the "Creative ASIO stereo mic in L" as my input and i used a software "compressor" and "reverb" as my pre effects. It's working very well when i start monitioring. So that i can heard wet sound and record dry sound at the same time. But the problem occurs when i click the red "ARM" button and ready to record, i found that the input level are getting much greater and overloaded. I tried a lot but it seemed as if there is no way to adjust the input level of micphone under ASIO recording mode. The pre compressor seemed useless. Is there a way to record a limited or compressed micphone input? Now i have to record in another track and set the input as "Creative ASIO stereo mix in L". But in this way the background music has been recorded aslo. I'm getting mad. I don't know do i need a hardware amp or compressor for micphone.

make sure your have set up microphone in sound option and not "What you hear"Double click the Creative sound menu buttom right, and make sure its microphone thats in the far right?Put the volume to the max to might be that also, even try to use the 20db boost

  • Audigy 2zs notebook - Can hear but NOT record effect of Graphic Equalizer

    Dear people,
Audigy 2zs notebook card, using with sonar-le to record (and also with Audacity).
I can record all I play with my soft synths, and mic voice, perfectly. Various tracks simultneously.
    Playback is also great.
I use sonar-le in Asio 2-Mode, and MME and all works good.
HOWEVER, I bring up the Creative equalizer, and I enable it, it makes a NOTORIOUS difference.. I can enable it while I am recording, before, or after.
So I record a track as usual, but I enable the equalizer, and I am FINDING-OUT that I can not seem to be able to RECORD the effect of the creative EQUALIZER!
Even though I can hear it in and out, big difference, the track recorded wave continues to record as if it does not see the equalizer at all.
I have tried all available inputs and many many things, but I just can not get the eq. effects to RECORD.
I have two speakers connected to the dongle that attaches to the notebook card... I have also tried using headphones, directly connected to card, and all I can think. I tried also mme mode.
I also tried audacity and same. Can't get the recording to be like what I hear with the headphones.
Why would this be? How can I solve the problem?
    Thanks a lot!

Whoops!? That sequencer/recording application "Cubasis VST 4" comes packaged with Audigy 2ZS Platinum Pro but not with the Notebook soundcard. A similar product Cubasis LE comes with X-Fi Elite Pro.
I haven't seen any details of the internal layout/architecture of the sound card, but I don't think that would help you in terms of some new configurations for recording.
In terms of recording capability, since there is only one input port with the NOtebook card, you are of course fairly limited in terms of connectivity, unless you have an external mixer (if you are talking about recording two things at the same time).
However, the audio quality of the Notebook card is certainly good enough to record very good quality audio with S/N, THD etc. My opinion is that people spend way too much time fussing about specs, noise etc. where in reality, most external transducers (mics, guitars etc.) always limit the recorded quality (unless you have really good professional recording gear and you have a lot of experience.
I've heard outstanding quality recorded music made on recording gear with much poorer specs than the Notebook card.
Best thing with your Notebook card is do what you've been doing. Use it and experiment and concentrate on the music generation itself.
    Thanks for the reply!
I gather that the application may not be downloadable, specially if it is third-party. I do have the Synth effect, though that I can plug into Sonar.. I like the hardware enabled effects, though, specially since my music playing/recording system is a little complex.
Yes, I do have external hardware mixers, and though there is only the mic/line input, that's not too bad since this card has MANY internal inputs and outputs that I DO USE. All? of my instruments and music is now software based..Only the Mic is external. That's why the hardware synth of the 2zs laptop is so attracti've.. It does not bear on cpu or data... That's why I asked about architecture info orient myself.
Also, I may be wrong, but I read that many of the hardware capabilities of the 2zs notebook card are no longer there on the newer cards... That effects and other things are now mostly software based? Is that so?...Can I use two cards on the laptop, the 2 zs and the express slot one simultneously and have more inputs/outputs?
I am still interested in all practical possibilities, and I do like the Creative soundcards.
The great thig is that you told me that the Eq can not be recorded, so that's very important to me.. I can still record it, though out into a second laptop via the headphone jack. But I will try the VST's I have here first and see how they feel and sound.
It really amazes me, though, that I can hear the effect, but there's no way to record it.
Maybe a new driver could do it's
    Thanks and best wishes!

  • ASIO Recording 24 bit (48 or 96kHz) A2 Platinum

I have read at kX Project that the Audigy 2 drivers from July 2004 enables 24 bit/96 kHz ASIO recording with the A2 ZS series. Can I get the same with the A2 Platinum eX? So far I have been using kX drivers with good results, but only with 6 bit and 48 kHz.
    Thanks for someone to answer!
    Sture in Sweden

"The SB Audigy ASIO 24/96 is only available with the Audigy 2 Platinum EX which uses ASIO 2.0 driver and is fixed on 24-bit/96khz. When using Cubasis you should always have one of these drivers selected and not the Multimedia or the directX drivers. You can adjust the buffer latencies from the ASIO control panel in the Audio System setup from the default 50ms up to 500ms and down to 2ms."

  • SB Audigy 2ZS Plarinum Pro: setting source for recording

    Hello!
I am having problems setting the source for recording. I want to set the recording source from 'Wave' (default) to 'Line-In /Mic'. After doing so with the mixer or the MediaSource Player it resets to 'Wave' after some time. Why? Can I force the software to make 'Line-In /Mic' the default setting? It really dri'ves me nuts to see that the source has changed without me being notified. I want to have the source changed only by myself and not by some cozmic radiation, God's will, voodoo magic and whatnot.
    Greetings
    ClustalW

<Re: SB Audigy 2ZS Plarinum Pro: setting source for recording? Okay ClustalW, I understand the "Default" problem you are having. So can you go to control panel, and sound and there look at your recording devices and tell me what do you see? If your desired device is there, you can choose it as the default and then throughout the rest of windows, this will be THE global default recording device or the first choice, when you are in other programs to record from. Also, make sure your device is plugged in when making this change. On my system with that board, a few years ago, I could make the choice, but it would always pick something else when the source was unplugged. For example, if I were using the front bay inputs as recording, when I would unplug them and reboot, my system picked the next thing as default.
Next go into to your Creative Control panel and do the same thing there. Theoretically your choices should be linked, but this is not always the result. I can choose mine in Vista and windows 7, but lastly I always go to the Creative mixer applet and do it there and that works best. For me, my default is my front panel Mic or Microphone FP but as soon as I unplug it, it wants to make my back mic jack the default.

<p>RCAPI (Report Creation and Modification) calls are only available with Crystal Reports Server RAS SDKs.  This means that using the bundled version of Crystal Reports for Visual Studio will not allow you to place fields onto the report.  A free copy of Crystal Reports Server comes with a registered copy of Crystal Reports Developer.  My guess is that you don&#39;t have either of these products and that you are just using the product that came with Visual Studio.</p><p>All is not lost.  The first question is, do you really need to add the fields at runtime?  In many cases developers just want to have control of the data that gets sent to the report and they are ok with having the same fields display.</p><p>In your code you are changing the datasource which is fine, and you are assigning a Record selection formula which is also fine.  </p><p>The problem with the record selection is that it doesn&#39;t fit the syntax of the Report.  I would suggest printing out the value that you programatically get for the formula and insert it into the Crystal Report Designer.  You will probably get the same error there and gets some  hints as to why it doesn&#39;t work.</p><p>What I would suggest is creating a template report that already has the fields on the report and then change its datasource at runtime and add a RecordSelectionFormula.</p><p>Otherwise you will have to use RAS to be able to add fields at runtime. </p><p>Rob Horne<br /><a href="/blog/10">Rob&#39;s blog - http://diamond.businessobjects.com/blog/10</a></p>

I can answer this for you.... I'm afraid it wont work from what I've read on other forums in Vista.
First of all you need to leave the creative software alone as that never works, then you do it by right clicking on the speaker icon etc to do what I am doing [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5qa-HODWbc">here[/url].
I don't think you will see What U hear in there tho.

Unfortunatly thats the way it is with soundblaster cards and vista drivers at the moment. There are a few threads open with people that have been complaining about this for months.Your 3 choices are; run windows xp, deal with the lack of driver features at the moment, or get a different brand of soundcard.

  • Help with Audio Playback While Recording

I am an aspiring sound engineer and I am having a problem with recording in Audition 3.0 that I need help with. When i record vocals, the sound wave plays back in the speakers/headphones with like a 1.5 second delay after it is recorded. It really throws off the artists I am working with when they are trying to record vocals. How do i kill headphone/speaker playback while someone is recording?

There are problems with a lot of internal soundcards in a lot of laptops, and these seem to be so many and various that all you can do is use trial and error and hope for the best.
External soundcards should cure any problem, but you may have to look into what else is running on the laptop, as so much is integrated, and some machines seem to have audio problems caused by wireless or other network adaptors etc.
As I said, I use oldish Edirol and Tascam usb units. The Tascam has a known fault (noise when using a guitar channel at the same time as phantom powering a mic on the other channel) which I can live with, and I would hope has been solved in later and current versions. The Edirol is fine. I use 2 units to give me the connections I want (ie one has jacks, the other phono plugs, and different size headphone sockets). Both these have asio and wdm drivers and work fine with AA 3.0 here. More modern devices will be usb2 and will presumably provide more channels or higher sampling rates, but these are fine. Others will be more up to date than me, but I would think anything from Tascam, Edirol, Echo Audio and I think most m-audio models should be fine. Just be wary of anything from Creative Labs. I, too, have had bad experiences with one of their products (it drew too much current from the usb port on a couple of the laptops so I never got as far as to find whether it had asio drivers working or not). But others will be more up to date than I am.
I just went onto ebay over the years and kept bidding on sensible looking devices until I got ones at the right price, but it probably is better to buy new if you can afford it.
Sorry I can't give a more definite answer.

Well, I created new extract, starting 2012-06-01 15:30 to check if there was something with extract at the time, but got the same error.
If I run extract beging at 15:52 it starts and works.

Any inputs / help would be appreciated.
    Regards,

The SCRP_CODE column has a NOT NULL constraint. The ORA-01407 error is telling you that you cannot update or set a value for this column to null because of the constraint. This has absolutely nothing to do with an index. You can use a marker/sentinel value in lieu of using NULL. For a numeric field, where everything is positive, a negative value (-1) can be decoded as meaning null. For a character field, a code such as NA can represent NULL.
This also has nothing to do (directly) with GoldenGate failing because of this error. The underlying SQL statement will fail everywhere, regardless of the tool or application. It is not a case of failing only in GoldenGate.

  • I'm having some difficulty with Time Machine.  It appears to be deleting backups from random dates on my external hard drive.  I am not deleting them.  Are they hidden and how do I prevent this from happening?  Can I retrieve them?

I'm having some difficulty with Time Machine.  It appears to be deleting backups from random dates on my external hard drive.  I am not deleting them.  Are they hidden and how do I prevent this from happening?  Can I retrieve them?

... I didn't know that Time Machine was more a last resort back up instead of main back up.
Don't rely upon Time Machine to the exclusion of all else. I compliment Time Machine with a periodic "clone". TM is much better than nothing, but it's a safety net, not a hammock
Here is my understanding of Time Machine's file deletion algorithm, distilled from Pondini's FAQ, Apple's KB articles, and my own observations.
Time Machine deletes ("thins") files from the backup disk as follows:
Hourly backups over 24 hours old, except the first backup of the day
Daily backups over 30 days old, except the first backup of the week
Older backups get deleted when Time Machine requires space and you deleted them from the source disk.
Therefore, assuming TM has been performing at least one backup per day, backup files will remain available:
at least thirty days, if they existed on your Mac for at least a day
until you run out of space, if they existed on your Mac for at least a week
In addition to the above, Time Machine always keeps one complete copy of your source disk so that the entire volume could be restored if necessary. Any files that remain on your source volume will be present on the TM backup, no matter how old they are.
If you are using 250 GB of space on your source disk, its Time Machine backups are likely to require at least twice that much. A good estimate of the minimum required backup volume size would be about three times the size of your source disk - 1.5 TB in your case.
A more thorough explanation would require Pondini since he has plumbed Time Machine's mysteries far more than I have.

  • Adobe programs dont work with Captivate to capture/record

    Hi there.
I've had problems with Captivate capturing screen recording from Adobe Premier cs5, where it would not show any of the video which was being edited.  I figured this was just the video issue and worked around it by just not showing the video preview for the small thing i was demonstrating, it wasnt a big deal if it was just isolated to this.
Next I was using Adobe Photoshop and setting up a little demo on how to fill objects.  Captivate did not pick up the cursor, it shows a ugly black box.
I also want it to pick up the full motion of my mouse cursor in photoshop, but it doesnt come close, so as im narrating how to do something, my actual mouse is not showing at the same time as im saying it which is essential when you are trying to show a way to FILL a certain area of a shape.
I had plans to do many things with captivate, now it seems i am going to have to switch back and forth with Camtasia, convert to AVI the parts that Captivate does not handle, and then import them into Captivate to make my demonstrations look seemless???
I have a lot planned for Adove CS5 Flash, is this also going to give me the same problem?
I have already searched for a solution tot his, and everyone has said that captivate does not capture things where there is overlayed content etc etc...
This strikes me slightly insane when Camtasia does it so well, and Im using an Adobe program to provide training on Adobe programs...
If anyone knows any delevopers for captivate on here, can they PLEASE look at this right now as im slapping myself wondering why this is the case and how im going to plan to do all the simulations half with camtasia and half with captivate on Adobe products we use at my work.....
Oh see the below link around slide 42 to get an example of what im saying here..
    http://www.blcstudents.com.au/tutorials/col-fill/colour-fill.htm
    or you can check out
http://www.blcstudents.com.au/tutorials/wp/?page_id=35 its at the bottom of the page.
Anyway im worried about what to be doing at this point, I got captivate for adobe products, not for other products and programs out there.
    Cheers for any help,
    Ben.

Just out of curiosity, are you able to modify the mouse cursor AFTER doing the captures once you're back in Captivate editing them?
For example, are you able to select the mouse for the slides where it added this wierd square cursor, then choose the normal arrow cursor from the Properties tabl > Options accordion?
Or are you able to delete the mouse from these same slides, and add it back again, and then select the cursor you want?
Have you found that there is nothing you can do to change this particular cursor on these slides?
