  • DVD Studio Pro Newbie Needs Help!

I have a presentation deadline approaching and I need help desperately. I created my presentation using Keynote 3 (800*600 slides) and exported it to a Quicktime movie using H.264 compression at 29.97 fps (high quality settings). I then proceeded to use iDVD 6 and imported the Quicktime movie and created a simple menu using the templates provided.
I saved the entire project as a disk image and used the DVD player to check the disk image file. The quality of the DVD disk image file looked nothing like the original Quicktime movie. The images and text looked blurry and unprofessional.
I've spend quite some time on the iDVD and Keynote discussion forums and can't find a solution to my problem. The conclusion I've come is that the mpeg-2 encoder that iDVD 6 uses is problematic.
I don't want to start using DVD Studio Pro but I will in order to preserve the quality of my original Keynote presentation. So here are my questions...thank you in advance for your help guys....I really need it:
    - I plan on playing the DVD on a 42" Plasma display at a sales office and also distributing it to potential buyers. Are my Keynote export settings optimal for iDVD use? Should I be using H.264 @ 29.97?
    - If I must use DVDSP then what export/compression settings should I use in Keynote to preserve the quality? Keynote doesn't give me an option to use mpeg-2. I have ffmpegX so I can encode different formats...just need to know the correct one.
    - Keynote exports separate audio and video files. I combined them using Quicktime. Is it possible to use the combined file in DVDSP or do they need to be separate.
Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you have any reading material pertaining to this matter please provide link.

    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

You can use a mov file that contains both audio and video. DVD Studio Pro will compress the mov itself. I am not overly familiar with the codec H.264 but either way its a codec that compresses the video, and if I am right that codec is used for compressing video to web based file sizes, which means heavy compression. When I create DVD material I use M2V format which is what DVD SP wants anyways so it cuts time and drive space in half. If you export an mov and import it into DVD SP, DVD SP compresses the file again which is M2V. Now you have two files, with twice the compression time. When creating M2V the only thing that you need o be aware of is the bit rate, which needs to be adjusted pending the duration of the video. Use 29.97 if you are NTSC and full frame rate, which you should be.
If you can not create an M2V file with associated aiff audio file, than export your QT file as uncompressed or as a QT Movie. The file itself will be huge but DVD SP will compress it properly.
    I hope this helps

  • Need help in multitrack recording with Audigy 4 pro

Hi there,?I have an audigy 4 pro soundplaster caed and use it with Cubase LE. I haven't figured out yet how to record the several tracks onto seperate?channels simultaneously. All inputs of the soundcard work and I know how to assign the channels to the tracks in cubase. But in the end the same is coming out of all... I have figured out that in the Audigy mixing console you need to select the input source first, but I only can select one. If I select 'what you hear' I can use all - but not seperated. Someone knows how to deal with it'sAny help hugely appreciated

    Hi,
wow, I got a big step further with this, thanks.
Yes, after pulling the window down ai discovered many moretracks. I also managed to get a signal in cubase by pressing the monitor item. And I could remap inputs. I got my input 3 set up fine. It's in the devie dislaplyed as L and R but witchever I choose works.
But for my second track it only lets my choose the other otpion of the same input (if trach one is Line 3L its has to be Line 3R for the other input. I did remap the track to to use line in but no signal and in the windows control mixer I still can only select one recording source but it doesn't correspondent with cubase, cubase records line in 3 whichever thing is ticked in the windows mixer.
Line in does go into my soundcards as I can hear it through the speakers but no further.
I uploaded the manual onto my own webspace, seemed the simplest thing: http://www.magicviolin.co.uk/Cubase&#37;20LE&#37;20manual.pdf
Thanks so much again, I actually feel slightly positi've now that I might it even get working...
The Manual cleared a lot. LE seem to have a bit stripped settings compared to SX, but the logic seem to be the same (maybe LE is ~ SE/SX .0).
As you have Audigy 4 Pro there, you should see quite many input channels listed on "VST Inputs" -panel. The bad thing seems to be, you have no names for inputs but they're listed as PCI REC & 2, PCI REC 2 & 3, etc. mono pairs. Now you need to examine which one is which (i.e. does PCI REC & 2 mean Audigy's Line-In L/R, PCI REC 3 & 4 as LineIn 2 L/R, etc.). See below.
NOTE: Inputs being as pairs of L/R channels means you can record to 2 tracks using one stereo input w/ mono connections (i.e. guitar through LineIn L and Bass through LineIn R). Tracks need to be set as mono. When you have one stereo connection or track set to stereo, you get the same signal from LineIn L and R to those tracks you have set the LineIn L or R as input source.
    CT Surround Mixer settings:
    - open those source channels you're using
    - if you use any Creative ASIO driver the .rec source selector has no effect
    Project settings:
With any Creative ASIO driver you need to set (Project properties)
    - bit-depth (record format) to 6-bit (or 24-bit if using "ASIO 24/96 driver") and
    - samplerate to 48000 Hz (or to 96 kHz when using the "ASIO 24/96 driver")
See - Activating and selecting VST Inputs - Manual p.2-25 ->:
    - you need to know which inputs are included to AnalogMix() --> you see these listed on Creative Surround Mixer --> rec. source selector.
    - give those inputs (label) the same name they appear on Creative Surround Mixer (i.e. Auxiliary, Line-In, Microphone, etc.)
--> you need to do these settings once if you save the (empty) project as a template
    See - Mixer p. 7.37 (Audio channel strips)-->:
    - here you can select the Input -channels (remember, which ones are in same group "AnalogMix ()" because they uses the same signal path and therefore gets recorded to all tracks having this source selected)
Hope you get things cleared, and remember save a well functioning project as Template (you can make templates with various settings (like one for 6/48 w/ audio tracks, other for 24/96 w/ audio tracks, and next for 6/48 w/ audio and MIDI tracks, etc.).
If you need 'some' VST effects/instruments for your recordings, KVR is best place to start from.

  • Audio latency problem with VST, SONAR and Audigy 4 PRO

    Hello all,
I have a slight problem with audio performance on my computer and I can't isolate what is wrong. I am using Cakewalk SONAR 4 studio edition, and a recently purchased Audigy 4 Pro soundcard. ( I know it's not quite professional grade, but it works well for me) I recently bought some string instruments from the Vienna Symphonic Library. So far, I love the sound of these "virtual instruments" if you will. The problem comes when I try to record them. I get stuttering and dropouts when I try to record the track in Sonar. I've tried the WDM drivers in 16 and 24 bit modes and the ASIO drivers (which apparently only support 16 bit!?) I know Creative has mentioned that these cards can record easily at 24/96 which is what I'd like if possible. Vienna instruments come in a 24 bit format. Is there something I'm doing wrong or do I need to seriously consider a different soundcard? I use Sonar to bring in the Vienna instruments as a VST. I also apply a reverb on it. When I just play this stuff on my MIDI keyboard, it all sounds great and keeps up. The moment I go to record though, I get dropouts after about 15 seconds or so. Also, is there no way to get ASIO 24 bit support for creative's consumer level cards? I'd be happy with the WDM's personally if those would work. I've looked into the KX project as well but haven't had a chance to try their drivers yet. On a different note, what are the significant differences between ASIO and WDM if any at all? (aside from supported bit rates) My current computer setup is quite powerful and I don't use much CPU power at all so I don't think it's my setup. Intel E6700 (2.67Ghz) Core 2 Duo, 2GB DDR2-800, 320GB Seagate SATA in RAID 1, Nvidia 7600GT, and Creative Audigy 4 Pro. Any help, or insight would be greatly appreciated!
    Matthew

Audigy 4 Pro should support 24-bit/96 kHz w/ ASIO --> have you selected those I/O drivers in Sonar audio settings (Options-Audio-Drivers -tab). ! You need to unselect all I/O drivers first to get those 24/96 drivers selectable)?
Dropouts comes from various sources. Have you checked if the read/write caching is set properly (Sonar, try different settings)?
Stuttering may come from shared IRQ/resources and PCI Latency settings.
If your graphics card is not PCIe then, make this registry tweak
Run regedit and search the key named as DisableProgPCILatency
    - set all 'DisableProgPCILatency' key values to 1 (HEX or DEC) (1 = disabled, 0 = enabled)
    - boot to BIOS settings and find the "PCI latency timer" option --> set its value to 32 or 64 (this is global PCI latency setting)
    - reboot
and check the IRQ situation. If there are IRQ shares between Audigy and other devices/controllers, try to get those fixed by disabling unneeded controllers/devices or by moving the Audigy into another PCI slot (PCI slots #3 and #4 are normally not shared).
    Couple meaninful differences between WDM/KS and ASIO are;
    - you can't get latency lower than 10 ms w/ WDM/KS (well, you can in Sonar by manually editing those buffer values but, the result is not good when you go under 10 ms buffer values (buffersize / samplerate * 1000 = latency in ms --> 512/96000*1000=5.33ms)
    and
    - you can record from one stereo (you can split this to two mono) source at a time w/ WDM (recording source is set in CT Surround Mixer (or windows recording controls))
    - ASIO supports (Audigy serie) locked 'resolutions' only - 16/48 or 24/96
Also, tweak your system for music - http://www.musicxp.net/
Some information on CT ASIO -

  • Audigy 4 Pro - No Midi in Audio Mixd

I have an Audigy 4 Pro, which came with Cubase LE.
In my recordings, I have midi tracks which have to be turned to Audio before the tracks can be added to the Audio mixdown. Cubase only makes one reference to this in the help files which says you must connect the output to the input on the sound card - which I suppose means that I would have to use a Y cable to route back to my mixer unless I wanted to unhook some of my speakers? Sounds like a hassle.
Or is there some way to do this in software with Audio HQ? Use "What you hear setting" perhaps?
I've looked at length through the help files and can't find any direct reference to this.
It's a bit frustrating. Right now what I'm doing is saving the midi tracks, and then using ITUNES to convert them to Audio files, which is also a hassle.
    Anybody else run into this?
    Any suggestions appreciated - VelvetElvis

Well I just got an email back from Creative Support and they reccomend I use Windows Media PLayer (or any other of the programs that do work) instead if it works 00%. I seriously hope they update the Entertainment Centre to actually work, I feel I am losing value of my Pro product very quickly as the remote now only has the function of changing the volume, not very satisfactory.
I also feel it's rather ridiculous that they recommend I use another program than Creative's, it's a bit of a cop out, and they should really work on fixing the program soon.
If the remote control could control Windows Media Player 0 when WMP0 is in fullscreen then that would be great, or if the remote control could be changed to be like a media keyboard in that it controls any media application rather than just controls that are visible it would be fantastic. Also if the power button could be altered to start an application then that would be great.
Anyway creative, update the entertainment centre to fix this issue please!Message Edited by CrimsonCleaver on 04-03-20062:6 PM

  • Audigy 4 Pro Optical In Probl

    Hey everyone,
I've had an Audigy 4 Pro for about a year now and it's an amazing piece of hardware, but I seem to be having some kind of problem.
I recently had an HD cable box put in my room and I want to connect the optical out port on the cable box to the optical in port on the Audigy 4 I/O box. I made the connections and the optical cable is lit and sending a signal, but I'm not getting any sound out of my speakers. I went into the volume mixer and turned on "S/PDIF-In"?and still nothing. Are there any other settings I need to check? I checked some of the other inputs on the I/O box and they seem to work so I don't understand why this one won't. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

What seems to be a problem is the I/O box is powered on, but not connecting to the card. The power light is on, but the volume knob isn't doing anything and the extra inputs aren't recognized. I didn't touch any of the cables, and they're all secure so I have no idea what's going on.

  • Audigy 4 pro digital connection but no l

    Hi
I have a soundblaster audigy 4 pro and i connect it to my amblifier denon with optical cable but when i play a dolby digital or dts sound i can't get the logo on the amblifier. I test it on clean install win xp sp2. The sound seems to bo ok but no logo. I use Power dvd latest version. When i play the same dvd on my desktop dvd player with optical connection everything is ok sound and all logo's display.
Do i have to enable cmss?
    Please help.
    Thank you
P.S sorry for my bad english.Message Edited by ASTRAPI on 06-2-2005 0:30 AM

CMSS is an effect used for stereo sounds, to emulate surround sound for them. It has no effect on the DVDs you're playing as you're just outputting the AC3 signal so the speakers can decode it.
If you're using a digital connection, then CMSS will not have any effect for other sound either, you need to connect through multiple analog connections to get that sound. A standard digital connection (coaxial and optical SPDIF) can only pass over either a stereo PCM signal, or an encoded AC3 stream (like on your DVDs). Normal sound like music or games will only be passed over as stereo PCM, so there is no CMSS effect there.
If you can connect your amplifier through several analog connections, then you can use CMSS aswell, otherwise your amplifier might have it's own upmix option like ProLogic.

  • Audigy 4 Pro, what cable

Hello, I just purchased your Audigy 4 Pro, I have the Logitech z-5500 5. digital speakers, it has inputs for Optical,Coaxial, as well as 6 channel direct I have an RCA Digital Coaxial cord and a Monster Optical cord, please tell me what cords I need to have digital sound

    Sir_Dude,
Yes, the 6 channel direct inputs are analog as far as the output on the sound card goes, but then again so is the sound that comes out of your speakers when you use a digital cable like an optical or coax. Basically you are deciding where you want the conversion from analog to digital to take place, at the sound card or at the speakers. It is most likely that the converters in the sound card are of a higher quality than those on the speakers (this is where the 3dB SNR 24-bit/92 Khz DACs come into play). If you decide that you want to use an optical or coax digital connection there are some limitations you should be aware of:
You are limiting the number of sources that you will get surround in. With a coax or optical connection you will receive surround sound in DVD's and other AC3 encoded signals. Games that use Direct Sound will output in stereo.</LI>
You are removing the ability to playback DVD-Audio disks.</LI>
    You will lose CMSS ability.</LI>
If you read the articles in the FAQ at the top of the board they will explain why this is the case and why it is better to use the analog outs on the card for your primary output.

  • Audigy 4 Pro Low Recording Levels/Master Knob/OSD probl

I purchased a second-hand Audigy 4 Pro. I was not given the software disk but managed to install the latest drivers and get it to play MP3s. I use Adobe Audition to record my old tapes to MP3 and record my attempts at guitar. With my SBLi've I had no problem. I bought the Pro because of the ease of using the breakout box. However I have some quesions about some problems I am having. ) Since I have no Creative software, just Win XP Mixer I don't seem to be able to control the input levels from either the mixer or the box. I have a tape deck using RCA to Line In 3 and an electric and acoustic guitar to Line In 2. The mixer record levels seem to have no effect. I can record but nothing seems to be much more than -20db or so at most. Could this be because Adobe Audition only shows Line In 3 L (ie one channel only)? Could this be because of the much greater dynamic range of the Audigy 4 compared to the SBLi've Value? Do I need additional Creative software and if so what and how to get it please?2) The Master knob on the breakout box just spins round and round without sto
    ps.
In other words you can rotate it in either direction ad infinitum. Is this correct? Pushing it in and out does cause the mute to work fine. 3) The help file talks about an On Screen Display associated with the remote. Wow these forums still suck. You have easy questions and no one bothered to help you out. I registered jsut to answer them for you although you probably already figured it all out. . It seems that loudness is optomized by creatives own drivers. What you described was also true back when you could use the e-mu driver hacks before creative bought e-mu. 2. The master knob indeed spins for infinity, obviously with no effect once you get to either end. This sucks becasue i have OCD and constanly spin this thing all kinds of ways. THey should have used the same system as the line-/mic knob. Only God and the engineer will ever know why they did this. 3 Yes. The on screen display is pat of the creative media player app.
So to solve all your problems, you can get the full software package from creative.com under the support menu. Just follow the menu options for your device. The software requires that you have the hardware which you do so the software is free. One more problem you WILL have. The software doesnt install under XP. You have to enter windows safe mode and install it from there otherwise the whole thing freezes up during the start of the install process. Fun times!

  • Audigy 4 Pro - Remote Contr

Hey,?I've got an Audigy 4 Pro card which i've had from new since 2005.However, i've only ever had the remote control working once, around about the time i first installed the card. Since then it's not worked. I'm currently running the latest drivers and mediasource 5, and still not getting remote control. I've been told i need Creative Media Centre, and i need to enable the remote, but A) i dont know where to get media centre since it's not on the downloads site for the Audigy 4 Pro. and B) i've tried looking for the "remote control" tab in media source, but to absolutely no avail. Can anyone tell me how i'm supposed to get my remote control working again? please?Martin

Entertainment Center is most likely found in the installation CD (X:\Audio\EntCntr\), I don't know if the A4Pro software can be installed individually, but if?you can't, copy the whole CD to the HDD and then copy engine32.cab from X\Audio\Setup\ to the app installation dir. If you no longer have the installation CD, download the ISO from BadBoy's page. http://badboy.hub.io/?You can try RMX automation, its a free program that lets you configure the buttons in the remote: http://sourceforge.net/projects/rmx/?

  • Audigy 4 Pro driver and MediaSource iss

Just bought an Audigy 4 Pro card after getting seriously fed up with my old SBLi've 5. card, however I've got quite a few issues with it.
I'm waiting on a response from Creative Support but figured I might check if anyone here can help.
The bundled software with my card was the Audigy 2 ZS CD, and when I tried to install the drivers from that one it said it couldn't find an Audify 2 ZS card on my system and promptly quit.
I tried a few ways to get around it but no luck, so eventually I downloaded the Audify 4 beta drivers (SBA4_BETADRV_US_2_05_0000.exe)from the Creative site.
Those drivers installed and now my system show an Audigy 4 card installed with the following drivers: 5.2.3.00
After installing the MediaSource from the Audigy 2 ZS CD I did not get any EAX control panel, Creative Mixer or Speaker setting though, so basically I'm stuck with nothing but my two front speakers making any sound at all.
    Creative MediaSource version: 2.02.06
If anyone has a suggestion on how to solve this I'd be extremely grateful, because the current situation is quite annoying.

The EAX Console, Speaker Settings and Mixer all came in the product CD. You must install them from the CD.

  • Audigy 4 Pro digital input 16 - 24

I have a Sony MDS-JB920 minidisc deck hooked up to my Audigy 4 Pro through the external box. Works fine.
However, the Minidisc deck allows one to set both the digital input and output to either 6, 20 or 24 bit. As the Audigy 4 Pro is 24 bit, I've set the deck to 24 bit for both in and out. So far no problems. If I watch the settings panel whilst playing a minidisc however, it indicates that the signal coming from the MD deck is 6 bit, although the deck is set to supply 24 bit through the SPDIF out.
When I put the MD deck on rec mode whilst the PC is supplying audio feed, the MD deck loops it back to the SPDIF input of the Audigy and then the software does display 24 bit signal coming from the MD deck.
This is very confusing to me, does anyone have an explanation?
