NAudigy 4 Pro - Trouble increasing/decreasing the volume using remote (RM 500) As the title says, I'm having troubles with increasing/decreasing the sound volume using the remote controller unit - RM 500 on my Audigy 4 Pro.
The sound volume inc/dec works just fine if I do it via the keyboard buttons, Audigy's External Hub or any other "software method", except when i'm using the remote.
If i press + or - on the remote, only the left channel reacts.
I'm using the latest drivers/apps (via AutoUpdate) over a fresh Win XP Pro / Audigy drivers (from the original CD).
It does not have this strange behavior with the drivers/apps from the original CD, but only after installing the updated drivers. The reason i'm not keeping the original drivers is that a few years ago, when the original CD drivers were the only ones available, they caused the BSOD to my ex-system several times. It was something related to the fact I was using (and I still am) 4 DDR memory bars...
I would really need some help on fixing this issue.

I downloaded the "ECUP_XPPCAPPBETA_US_3_40_2.exe" file but at installation start it gives me the message:
"Setup is unable to detect a supported product on your system. Please ensure that your product is properly installed before running this Setup program. Setup will exit."
PS: I just tried to install this beta app over the one i already have installed.

I need another way of increasing/decreasing the volume in OS X.

Long story short: The F11 and F12 volume keys on my Apple keyboard change the volume in too large of steps. There's a key combination for tiny increments, but come on... Do I really want to use two hands to press three keys just to turn up the sound a bit?
F12 turns the sound up in big increments.
ShiftOptionF12 turns the sound up in tiny increments.
My thought was to use the function keys as standard function keys (keyboard prefs option) and then use hotkey software to make F12 trigger fnShift+OptionF12. That failed because, apparently, it's impossible to create a hotkey macro that includes using the fn key. Garr!
This made me realize there must be another way to create a hotkey that turns the volume up just a little. I've tried using an applescript, but applescripts and hotkeys are apparently buggy (click the key too quickly or too lightly and you can get a loop where the Applescript executes a billion times because it thinks the key is being held down... which means the volume won't stop rapidly turning up!!!) Keyboard Maestro and Spark both seem to have this problem.
SO....
I'm trying to find creative ways to create an F12 hotkey that turns the volume up a little. And then, obviously, I'll do the same thing with F11 to turn the volume down a little.
How many ways are there to turn the volume up in small increments?

Are there any other key combinations? Lesser known key combinations maybe? Something else entirely?

I already own an Apogee Duet, which, among other things, serves as an amazing volume knob, but since my hands are on the keyboard already typing, I'm hoping to fix the volume keys that turn up/down too quickly unless I use two hands and three keys. No thanks.
I'm convinced there's a way to make an F12 hotkey that turns the volume up just a little instead of a full five steps. I have hotkey software (Keyboard Maestro and Spark). I'm just missing the solution that'll make it work. If I could use the fn key in a macro, this would be easy. That's why I'm seeking creative solutions I haven't thought of or that I'm just unaware of.

I have the BOSE Companion 5 speakers and have had the same problem. I've searched everywhere and gotten nowhere. My speakers are way past their warranty, so calling Bose would probably get me no where either. Only thing I can think of is that the speakers overheat which causes the spikes in the volume. I've tried unplugging them for a few minutes and then plug them back on. The problem does go away, but after about 5 minutes, same problem.

Having trouble setting up the volume on my ipod...

when i put on the sound check on on my pod it really knocks the volume way down, and i find if i boost the volume to my music tracks in my itunes settings {even with sound check off} that a certain percentage of my volume control {roughly the last ten percent} on the slider doesn't work... its as if itunes is trying to keep all my music at the same volume even with sound check switched off, even after i have manually boosted the volume on my music... is it me? is there a way round this? ideally i just want to boost the volume on my music and have it all play out at roughly the same volume, but it doesn't quite seem to work... any help would be much appreciated???

Correct, using that method all you do is make it so that the maximum volume on the iPod is reached before the volume bar is at full.
For example, if you increase a track's volume in iTunes by +100% then when it's on the iPod you will find that that track hits it's maximum volume level at about half volume, and turning the iPod up to full volume will not increase the volume any higher after this point. A track which has not had it's volume altered in iTunes will reach exactly the same sound level, although of course you will need to turn the volume level of the iPod to full in this instance.
All iPods manufactured for the European market have a volume cap applied to them. It's a European directive from those nice people in Brussels who make sure we can't damage our delicate little ears.
If you have an older iPod you can use goPod to remove the cap on iPods that have this volume limitation. That should make your iPod maximum volume louder.
The soundcheck option will lower the volume on your iPod somewhat in order to level out the volume of different songs. There are 3rd party programs that do this more effectively (at least in my opinion).
For Windows there is mp3/aacGain.

Can't adust the volume using keyboard and remote control

i have macbook Pro like two weeks and a strange thing happened today. I just can not adjust volume up or down using the F3 F4 F5 keys, must go to preferences and adjust manually. The apple remote control does not change the volme neither. When pressing the relevant key the pop up window appears but nothing happens it does not react and a small not available - restricted icon appears in the bottom of pop up. Please help.

Reset PRAM:
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound (bong) for the second time.
6. Release the keys.

How we can increase/ decrease the width of a HTML Region.

I am having following 2 HTML regions defined.
I am using Two Level Tabs with Sidebar
Region1
Type - HTML Text
Template - Report region with 100% width
sequence - 10
column - 2Region2
Type - HTML Text
Template - Report region with 100% width
sequence - 10
column - 3 // only the column is different in this caseNow when I run the page, what I found that Region1 width is covering 75% of the Page and Region2 is covering only 5-10% of the page (right side)
How can I reduce the width for region1 and increase the width of region2.

Portege R830 - Changing the volume using the flash keys

My question is simple and straightforward. I was wondering if it's possible somehow to see the progress of volume in the display, when you change it using the flash keys (fn+3 or fn+4). That would be quite handy.

I dont have this Portege but if this is not visible you cannot change it. Either it is visible or not. It is not known to me that flash cards utility has some additional options where you can enable such visual illustration.
This volume progress is visible if you use speakers option in task bar or using Windows Mobility Center.

When I plug my headphones into my MacBook Pro, and I turn the volume up, I hear the little bubble sound coming from the computer speaker. What is wrong with my computer? I don't think it's the headphones, because i've already tried two pairs.

How can this be fixed?

Thanks for the response. Unfortunatly those documents are of no help to me. I have tried several times to boot into the AHT, which didn't work. And attempting to do an internet recovery won't even allow me to log into my wireless network, even though I know the password is correct.Let us try to go through this step by step, as I've been doing.
1) After resetting the NVRAM it still does not see any new hard drive, and I don't need to select the old HD to boot from it. If it is in it works.
Therefore this means that it is
a) not the SATA cable
b) not the new hard drive because my friend got his replacement HD today and I checked them both out. They both work fine on my other friends new macbook pro.
2) The old hard drive can boot up regularly, and the new one can be seen via the SATA to usb connector and booted from, but not via the internal SATA connector.
Also, I still can't boot into Parted Magic, or any other rescue OS I have.
This seems like a very specific problem, and it definatly wasn't anything I did. I followed troubleshooting steps like I normally do and it wasn't a clusterfuck as you so elequently stated.
Please take the time to respond to all of my questions this time, I feel like you are overlooking some very important information.

How do you change the volume used for group folders in Lion Server?

So I'm slowly acclimating to Lion Server, however, I'm not able to determine how to specify the parent folder for Groups. By default it's the /Groups root directory on the boot volume however I'm trying to change it to an alternate drive on a separate volume. I've tried removing the sharepoint from the 'Server' admin utility and adding the alternate Group folder (on a separate volume) but to no avail.
Has anyone else worked with this?

Open Workgroup Manager app, from the ServerAdminTools, (link) enter your domain name for your server (FQDN), enter your OpenDirectory administrator user and password, go to Groups > Groups Folder.

Increasing/decreasing a var using dynamic text

Now while I am not a complete newbie I am far from an expert in this, so instead of using terms I hardly understand myself I'll just give a rough outline of what I need for this project to work
I am currently working on a turn-based point-and-click strategy game in flash. Now like most strategy games gathering resources is important, and in this game there are currently four resource bases, a forest, a gold mine, a lake and a stone mine.
What I need is for the player to be able to click on, for example, the forest, in which case a dynamic text will become visible. Now I need the player to be able to insert an ammount of soldiers. That ammount will be sent to claim the resources of the base. So basically I need the ammount that is typed in the dynamic text to be retracted from the "soldiers" var and added to the var representing the soldiers in the forest.
Any help on how to achieve this would be appreciated

A textfield has a "text" property. So if you have a variable that you want to assign the textfield's entry to, then you assign it using...
yourVariable = textfieldName.text;
If you want that variable to be a Number, then you cast the textfield text as a Number when you assign it to the variable...
yourVariable = Number(textfieldName.text);

Liquify Filter shows transparency instead of increasing/decreasing the object

I have been watching a tutorial concerning the Liquify Filter and have followed all the steps, but apparently I am not doing it correctly.
I did turn my layers into a smart object, but when I use the pucker/bloat tool on an eye for example, it only creates the transparency of the picture.
Strangely enough, I can use all the other tools without having any problems.
Does someone knows how to fix this problem?

Here are the steps i did for the currency conversion.
1. Created the conversion type.
2. Exchange rate type -> M
3. Selected Dynamic exchange rate
4. In the currency tab selected source currency from data records.
5. Target currency i selected Target currency from variable.
6. Variable is the one created on the 0CURRENCY object.
7. Time reference is the exact day and 0CALDAY is selected in it.
8. In the query, created a calculated key figure and assigned this conversion type to the CKF.
9. I have just dragged the 0CURRENCY in the row.
10. For currency in the Advanced tab in query i selected master data option for the filter.
When the query executes, it asks for the value of this variable.
When i select the F4, it should show me all the currency values, but it shows me only INR. In the search if i give EUR manually then it takes EUR but doesnt show me in the list.
Is there any step that i have missed out pls.
