any help would be appreciated... Indian

oh well,,?removed the XFI and stuck it on the shelf, it was a nice idea while it lasted, reinstalled the Audigy 4 and everything is back working again.. seems as tho I always waste $$ like this...

  • Is it possible to use an Audigy and Xfi at the same ti

Hello, this is my first post in the forums.
I have using Creative soundcards since many years ago, and all of them are working today.
Now, in my primary there is an Audigy, mainly used with Debian Linux, working wondefully, and some Windows time for games.
I'd like to use a Xfi, but the promised Linux compatibility is still on the horizon, so, is it possible to install a Xfi along my Audigy, using only the Audigy in Linux and the two soundcards on Windows (Xfi with headphones and Audigy with surround system Creative P580)?
Will there be a driver conflict of some sort (in Windows) ?

I'm running into the same problem. While it is possible to create an aggregate device using Apple's Audio MIDI setup utility, the Mac doesn't see both microphones. It only ever sees the second one that's plugged in.

  • Optimal headphone settings for Xfi XtremeMu

I've just bought myself some nice new Sennheiser HD595 headphones and I'd like to do most of my music listening through my computer (CDs and DVD-As played through the dri've in the computer), but I'd like some advice on how to set my Xfi XtremeMusic card to the right settings.
I've fiddled around and found that the Crystaliser does make the sound sharper, but I'm worried that it might be obscuring other sounds or distorting the noise somehow to achieve this effect (I'm fairly fanatical about getting the best possible sound out of my music - "the way the musician intended it to be heard" or something like that).
I've also swapped between the 2. speaker setting and the headphone setting and can't really decide which one sounds better - although at higher volume the 2. speaker setting has a constant fuzz in the background. However, some of the other posts on this board suggest that 5. is the best setting for headphones.
I also tried the CMSS-3D headphone setting and it definitely sounds worse, like the sound is wrongly positioned around my head.
Basically, I'm just a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of permutations and combinations in the sound settings, and would like some advise on how to tweak it to the best music-listening effect.

In the config. consoles I think it's better to leave it as headphones or 2. speakers. Since you have to plug the headphones to the line-out jack if you configure as 5. you'll lose the center, sub and rears when listening to surround content. When you use a 5./7. setup, CMSS "fills" the missing channels with the stereo source. With headphones it makes stereo music more?"upfront" so it doesn't sound "inside the head", but according to some reviews, the HD595s have already?an upfront soundstage. CMSS 3D is nice when you listen to 5. DD/DTS content with headphones, the spatialization is pretty good and I prefer it over the basic stereo?downmix (or even dolby headphone), but you might want to turn it off for stereo content (mostly music) as it changes sligthly the sound (you already noticed that).
CMSS 3D is almost a must for games, it enables MacroFX and elevation filter (in UT2003 let a manta run over you, you'll immediately notice the difference), just enable also bass boost for games, it tends to favor mids and highs.

  • New version of soundblaster xfi xtrememu

comes with heatsink and additional power supply. This addition power supply cause temperature to raise up. what are improvements, compare this new version to the older version?
    thanks

How is it stupid? Who mentioned overclocking? Anyone with a clue knows that if you pump more volts through silicon it can clock higher. This is the same for chips that come off the line that may be unstable at creatives reference 400mhz, but add more voltage and away they work at 400mhz. Tell me how thats stupid? Obviously you know nothing about silicon, transistor junction leakage, nor electronics.
And please tell me how higher thermal has anything to do with chip yield? The originals never got hot at all so how could that be it's
Nobody in the public will really know unless they pop the sinks off and compare numbers and measure the input core voltages on a sinked and unsinked card.Message Edited by spikestabber on 09-03-2006 05:8 AM

  • SB XFi & Audigy 2 ZS

    Hi all,
Ok so i've been using my XFi Extreme Music card for some time now with Daniel_K's drivers on Win 7 x64 without any problems. (Thanks again Daniel_K for all your hard work ).
Anyway i recently added a Audigy 2 ZS to my system just for it's Gameport/Midi port to use with my midi keyboard. Now the first time i put the card in and booted up Windows it installed it's own WDM driver for the Audigy and the Gameport driver. All was going well until i was in a couple of games and they just fully locked my system up. So i tried updating the Audigy drivers for it with the Daniel_K one's. Same again! Random crashes but only when playing games...
I have made sure that the default card being used for everything is my XFi as i stated i only wanted to use the gameport off the Audigy but it's as if the Audigy is interfering within my games for some reason but not at all/ever when just sat in Windows when i might be surfing, listening to music, watching a movie etc.
I've not even got around to testing the Gameport with my Midi keyboard yet as i would like to get this stable first.
The only thing i can think of is the old problem of having more than 2Gb of system memory. To which i have 4Gb.
Is there something that stands out to anyone that they maybe able to point something out to me and help me correct this or am i just on a losing battle with the Audigy 2?
Thank you in advance for any advice/information.

Hmm ok but with my other Audigy 2 (Not the ZS version) a while back the gameport worked straight away with Daniel_K drivers. But i still had the random crashes with that card. So i had the ZS spare and thought i would try that.
Plus i could understand conflicts if i didn't know what i was doing with configuring windows properly to use a specific driver with what software/application. I can use my onboard soundcard with my XFi without a single problem at all. I tested the XFI and the onboard sound together a while back when i got the crashes on the first Audigy 2 card.
I also tried both Audigy 2 cards on their own without any other card installed. that includes the onboard being disabled (Which is most of the time anyway) and the XFi out completely.
Believe me when i say i have tried every which way with not just Daniel_K's drivers and all have given me some crash problem. Without any of the Audigy cards in i can run my PC 24/7 perfectly. So this rules out anything else defecti've in my system. I have also tried both the Audigy cards in my partners system (Which is running Win XP Pro x86 SP3) and they both run perfectly. So not defecti've cards.
Personally i'm still leaning towards the 4Gb of ram issue...
I will keep at it and keep searching and looking out for any drivers that will solve my problem but i may just end up getting a Midi to USB adaptor. Which i didn't really want to do as i payed a small fortune for the Midi cable i bought. It's just frustrating when i have all this hardware at my disposal
Thank you anyway for your input. You have certainly given me a little more to think about.

  • Audigy 4 Pro Vs. X-Fi XtremeMu

I'm considering buying one of those two cards, and using the Klipsch Pro Media 2. speaker setup with it
I have an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU, GB of RAM, ATi Radeon X800GTO Video Card (unlocked and OCed to specs of X850XT)
Ive been reading about alot of issues people have with the X-Fi, and im wondering if theres really any advantage to the X-Fi over the Audigy 4 Pro? They seem the same (in fact the Audigy 4 Pro seems a bit better) minus weird sound "enhancement" effects
Plus is there really any advantage since i wont be using surround sound? I wont be recording either, my main purposes are music and games. I mainly want my music to sound the best though.
I also have some pretty high end (not the best though) Sennheiser Headphones ill be using sometimes.
Oh and these are the speakers i have now before i get the Klipsch 2. setup http://www.cambridgesoundworks.com/store/category.cgi?category=mul_speakers&item=cmd2ee
im just trying to provide as much info as possible
    thanks for the help

The Audigy 4 Pro uses a higher quality DAC than X-Fi, except for Elite Pro. (Audigy 4 pro and Elite Pro both use CS4398.) However, the Audigy 4 Pro reportedly has a really poor sample rate conversion algorithm that cripples the sound. SRC can not be disabled on the Audigy cards. The X-fi's SRC is supposedly much better, and can be disabled anyhow for certain outputs ('bit-matched playback'). So despite the higher quality DACs, the Audigy 4 Pro is not going to sound as good as the X-fi. I haven't listened to both, so can't directly confirm this.
However, I own X-fi Platinum, and it sounds way better than my previous Audigy 2ZS - the difference is really noticeable. The interesting thing is that the Audigy 2 ZS has exactly the same DAC as the X-fi platinum (CS4382), which seems to lend weight (given the difference in sound quality between the two) to Creative's claims about improved SRC on the X-Fis.
One more note: if you're thinking of an Elite Pro, it's really not worth it if you plan to use headphones out of the break out box. Elite Pro breakout box uses a CS4392 DAC, which is exactly the same as the one in the I/O dri'ves that come with the Fatalty and Platinum. (The higher quality DAC is ony used for the rear analogue outputs.)
Hope this is of some help.Message Edited by frankmcarthur on -06-200605:44 PM

Hi,I want to purchase a new sound card. but i am confused with the wide range of creative products. my purpose of purchasing new sound card is music & games.please can u suggest which card i should purchase. i have creative 6. sound system. these are the list of sound card please suggest me which one to buy :-.X-Fi Elite Pro2.X-Fi Fatalty3.X-Fi Platinum4.X-Fi XtremeMusic5.Audigy 46.Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS.
I want a sound card which has digital output, so that i can upgrade my speaker later.
    ThanksManish

Audigy 2 ZS provides best cost/performance ratio. It is suitable for all modern games and delviers great gaming audio experience. X-Fi is waste of money. These card are good, yes but too expensi've and are not so powerful as Creative claims. Oh, and they come with awful software with no updates. Nevermind crappy MediaSource...
X-RAM is useless. There is not a single one evidence of claimed by Creative Labs performance gain when X-RAM is being used. Correct me with a link for any review if you like. Oh, and good luck with looking for one.Message Edited by crazyandlazy on -24-200606:29 PM

  • Audigy 4 non-pro, multimedia probl

    Hi there,
Got the Audigy 4 non-pro card, and I'm sticking with it for a long time... but it does have a few problems, I was hoping some of you may have the same problems and could help me. The first one may not be a problem with the card itself.
The thing is, I have a certain DVD-title that has Linear PCM Stereo and DTS-Digital 5. Surround soundtracks. The stereo works fine (let's say in Windows Media Player), but when I switch to DTS (hoping for a surround experience), there is no sound! I am able to have surround sound with most DVDs, although it's usually Dolby Surround. Do I need special software to play DTS soundtracks? I know that PowerDVD (or whatever its' name) has to be upgraded for DTS, but the Windows Media PLayer does have a DTS logo thing, when I play it, but there is no sound!
The other problem seems to be more serious.
When I work with MIDI, or play MIDI files, there's a strange lock-up of the system, although on an irregular basis. Sometimes, suddenly, instantaneously, everything stops, and there is a sustained and quiet MIDI sounds, as though the last notes are held, and the system is in a state of complete lock-up. Does anyone have a problem with taht? Or a solution, even better!
    Cheers.

I think you should try some modded driver. It will provide better sound. Try these following links and find out which driver will give your favorite sound. But remember to back up your system (system restore is a good choice before doing so)

  • Audigy 4 (non-pro) missing sou

Hi I just got an Audgy 4 card for xmas and it seems like a nice card. I'm having problems with certain games though.
A couple of examples, World of Warcraft the music does not play and some sounds are missing... Prince of Persia 3 has sound but not in the cut sequences. Other games experience missing audio in places too.
I noticed if I turn acceleration from full to standard all sound works fine, but then EAX does not work. But one of the main reasons I wanted this card was for the EAX support.
I have the latest drivers/direct x/win xp sp2 and I'm using desktop stereo speakers at the moment. Anybody have any ideas?

  • Audigy 4 non-pro or Audigy 2

Hi! I need advice as to which card I should buy. Currently using Realtek on-board sound. I already read the thread about the differences of these 2 cards but I am still having second thoughts. As of now I am in favor of buying the Audigy 4 due to its lower price. I am only using headphones so I don't think I would benefit from the extra features of the audigy 2 ZS like the THX console and most probably I would use the sound card for mp3 playback, DVD's and gaming. Is the extra 2dB of the Audigy 2 ZS really worth it's I am also considering the x-fi extrememusic but it is quite expensi've in my country, almost twice as much as the price of the Audigy 4.

I think you should try some modded driver. It will provide better sound. Try these following links and find out which driver will give your favorite sound. But remember to back up your system (system restore is a good choice before doing so)

  • Audigy 4 (non-Pro) driv

    Hi,
Quick question, really. I have tried searching, but I can't seem to find the answer (one way, or another) that I am looking for.
I am running Windows XP, and I have a Creative Audigy 4 (non-pro) sound card. I am using the January 2006 drivers, which Creative have listed on their web site.
But I was really just wondering if there were any other drivers for this card that I am unware of and that I could try?
I am thinking of more recent beta drivers, popular modded drivers, or other Audigy (, 2, etc) drivers that people have used with their Audigy 4.
If not, have Creative publically stated that they plan to release a new driver set for the Audigy 4?
Appreciate any help on this one,
    Jon

I think you should try some modded driver. It will provide better sound. Try these following links and find out which driver will give your favorite sound. But remember to back up your system (system restore is a good choice before doing so)

  • Cheap Audigy SE for Recording with a Microphone?

Would the Audigy SE work for recording guitar? Is it a full duplex card? (i.e. can I record a track in a multitrack program while listening to another track?) Every store you go, its the same 4 cards available- Audigy SE, $30; XFI Music, $70, XFI Gamer, $100; XFI Fatality, $130. Apparently you can't buy a nice simple Audigy 2 with nice simple inputs anymore...now its the "FlexiJack"...

Can you hear the sound? Perhaps it is recorded at such a low level that you can't see the waveform. Try raising the audio gain of the track. The best solution would be to sort out the recording levels.
