Audigy Live! 24-bit quest

I'm using my audigy in combination with a Logitech 680-speakerset. Which allows either digital (optical) input or through 3-jacks, offering full surround in '6 Channel Direct'-mode.
BUT...if I start a movie with DTS/AC3-signal, I press the button on my Logitech remote, so it switches to optical input, and automatically to DBII/Pro-Logic when it finds a encoded signal.
But here is where the problem starts: - I had a REaltek 97 on-board soundchip with optical output. Which 'outperforms' the audigy lli've 24-bit in terms of ease of use! -> Driver installation AND configuration is faster, easier and still leaves much to be configured if you like. (Plus, the driver is smaller, and the config-screen doesn't has this 'skinned' interface, which I don't care about, but only slows my computer down.)
Realtek offered me the option to switch between optical and analogue through my Logitech, but everytime I want to see a movie with Dolby Digital sound, I have to manually set the output from the Creative tool, to SPDIF. And a minute later, when I'm playing a game, I need to switch back to analogue output.
I want output on the analogue connectors AND the SPDIF, at the same time! Just like with Realtek.
Any solution?Message Edited by Mizitras on 03-8-200608:59 PM

I know, it is stupid, my onboard Analog Devices SoundMax?does analog?and SPDIF in the same time, but Creative doesn't know how to do that...
I have no answer to that except that they?have used sometime ago?the digital out as analog out too (on Li've!) and they got "stuck" with that check box in the drivers.

Hi!, I'm from Mexico, I'm a dj, ok, few hours ago, I solved the poblem with my SB Li've External in Traktor 3.3 of NI, I use Windows vista in my tablet PC, and when I boutght it, Traktor never show me the 5. channels... I think the problem is with the driver for windows vista, one week ago I recovered my tablet and I install Windows XP, but my AMD Turion 64X2 runs bad the traktor 3.3, today I decided to install my SB Li've in W. Vista, again, And?I decided USE THE XP DRIVER CD, I had't installed any software of music in my PC, only the traktor 3.3, when I?trying to set the Audio COnfiguration in traktor I find one?option in Audio Device: ASIO4ALL v2,?and others options.the most unusual is that de option ASIO4ALL had't show me before. ok but this option allows us to use 8 outs of the SB Li've , & 2 for?front, ....etc. the last 2 outs (7 and 8), I thing that?are for the Digital Output(please confirm me it). I don't know how my?PC detected that option in traktor, I had another SB Li've External, & make the same steps & never show me that. my?NEW SB Li've Ext. I boutght it'stoday, I don't see any?unlike. Fortunately for me?traktor & SB LIVE Ext. runs great in Windows Vista. . maybe the XP Driver CD is new, I don't know! (for these news steps I never install the VISTS Driver CD).
When you configure Ur traktor Outputs, select ASIO4ALL and push the Control Panel button, Traktor will run another windows with many options.
I use this options in my PC (if U recommend me other please tell me):
    Audio Device: ASIO4ALL
    Sample Rate: 4400 hz
Audio Latency: 23.ms (configured in ASIO4ALL control panel)

2.- mark Always Resample at 44. Khz <-> 48 Khz, and force WDM Driver to 6 bit (optional)
    ?clic on exit.
go to output routing, and U will find the 8 outputs.

ok, in output routing you will find all options to configure your outputs, for the cue?monitors select 2 outputs of the SB Li've, in my setup I have?3 &?4 outputs (C/Sub estereo output), for master I have & 2 (Front), & for Booth 5 & 6 (Rear). maybe your problem is that you have not?deactivated your old sound card, and haven't enable the SB Li've, U can use both at the same time, and get more outputs . U can configure Ur outputs?as U Like, if U use a external Mixer with 2 or 4 channels, select in output routing - mixer mode "External" and send the channels A, B, C & D in a specific?output. good Luck

  • Audigy SE 24-Bit 7.1 C

Alright I am having some pretty weird sound issues here. Basically my card is not working properly, i.e. Windows is not reconizing it. First of all I disabled my onboard sound card in the Bios, and then went to install the card. After the card was installed properly in the pci bus, I powered up the computer. Windows plug n play started to install the drivers but I stopped them. I then installed the givin drivers, I even tried the most up to date drivers on the site for the Creative Sound Blaster . Device manager shows everything is installed correctly but Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel is not reconizing it. I do have windows xp pro 32 bit edition. Is this compatible?
Now for some weird problem, when I do a test using the included software. I hear "left channel right channel"
    What is going on?

How to produce 5.1 sound with logitech z5500 running on iMac 10.5.8 with sound blaster live 24 bit external.

First off your operating system version is obsolete and not being updated for security issues from Apple.
OS X 10.4/10.5 need to upgrade, 10.6.8 ok still
So at least you need to upgrade to 10.6.8, and that will make your machine secure again.
However if you decide to upgrade further to 10.7 or 10.8, be forewarned your PPC based software of old is not going to work any longer. and your machine may require more RAM.
Check here to see and download the free MacTracker to see your machines true RAM potential and specs. There are videos online at YouTube, it's really easy to install yourself.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
I checked out the z-5500, apprantly the optical out shouldn't be a problem, however the surround sound decoding is a problem as the Mac doesn't do it, just passes it through for decoding on a receiver via the optical out port if your Mac has one.
Use the free MacTracker to find out or when you upgrade OS X, there is a option in the System Preferences > Sound.
    https://logitech-en-ap.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9693/section/trouble shoot/crid/409/lt_product_id/224/tabs/1,3,2,4,5/cl/sg,en
The Sound Blaster Live 24 bit doesn't do Dolby 5.1 according to Wikipedia. More info on it is here.
    http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?catID=1&prodID=10702&pr odName=Live!%2024-bit%20External&CatName=Sound+Blaster
If it's able to accept optical toslink cable from the Mac's toslink stereo mini port (if it has optical output) and then send that to the z-5500 via the analog speakers, then you should be fine.
I'm afraid you'll have to do some more digging to get it to work.
The only surround sound your going to get is by playing DVD movies that have it, then it can't have Dolby 5.1 as the Live 24 bit can't decode it.
So do your research on what surround sound formats the Live 24 can decode, then compare your DVD collection for those movies that have it, then get it all connected and enable it on the movie preferences at the menu.
    Good Luck

  • From a SB live 24 bits to a Audigy 4

Hi all, I have a good deal with a Audigy 4 and I want to know if there will be a difference between my SB li've 24 bits? I would like it to take really less CPU that my 24 bits because Its unacceptable to have a 5% cpu load with a FX-55 when listening to music... So is the Audigy 4 a lot easier on the cpu?

Well the Audigy 4 is just a fine tuned Audigy 2 ZS. Tho I've heard the audigy 4 pro is even better.
I've never bothered witha SB 24, If its anything like the Audigy LE. Then yes you will notice a diffrence In sound quality.
As for your CPU taking up 5% when playing music. I get that on my Audigy when I use Winamp ASIO and Resample the song to 480000 to get around the well knowen problem with the Soundblaster line.
If I play the same song with Foobar2000 with the same settings (ASIO & resampleing) it takes about 2% to 5%.
So you see it really depends on your Software. and on both of them I have my setting tweaked to give me the best sound quality possable.

  • Creative Audigy 2 NX Bit Depth / Sample Rate Prob

This is my first post to this form
Down to business: I recently purchased a Creative Audigy 2 NX sound card. I am using it on my laptop (an HP Pavilion zd 7000, which has plenty of power to support the card.) I installed it according to the instructions on the manual, but I have been having some problems with it. I can't seem to set the bit depth and sample rate settings to their proper values.
The maximum bit depth available from the drop down menu in "Device Control" -> "PCI/USB" tab is 6 bits and the maximum sample rate is 48kHz. I have tried repairing and reinstalling the drivers several times, but it still wont work. The card is connected to my laptop via USB 2.0.
I looked around in the forms and found out that at least one other person has had the same problem but no solution was posted. If anyone knows of a way to resolve this issue I would appreciate the input!
    Here are my system specs:

    Intel Pentium 4 3.06 GHz
    GB Ram
    Windows XP Prof. SP 2

Well, I am new to high-end sound cards, and I may be misinterpreting the terminology, but the sound card is supposed to be a 24bit/96kHz card.
I am under the impression that one should be able to set the output quality of the card to 24bits of depth and a 96kHz sample rate, despite the speaker setting that one may be using, to decode good quality audio streams (say an audio cd or the dolby digital audio of a dvd movie.) I can currently achieve this only on 2. speaker systems (or when i set the speaker setting of the card to 2.) Otherwise the maximum bit depth/sample rate I can set the card output to is a sample rate of 48kHz and a bit depth of 6bits.
Am I mistaken in thinking that if I am playing a good quality audio stream I should be able to raise the output quality of the card to that which it is advertised and claims to have?
    Thnx

  • Sound Blaster Live 24-bit PCI Sound Card and Creative Sound Blaster PCI Card not detect

Ok here is my problem. I bought a Creative Sound Blaster PCI sound card a while back and it was working fine but recently when I would boot up my computer and try to play music say off of Winamp it says Bad DirectSound Driver. When I check device manager it shows no sound card there and in sounds and audio devices it says no audio device. Now my brother believed this to be a card fault so we went to Frys and bought a Sound Blaster Li've 24-bit PCI card. I uninstalled the old drivers and installed this new one but yet it's the same problem. My assumption was that Windows XP had something conflicting so I reinstalled the OS. It found the card and I installed the latest drivers?off of this site but now it does the same thing yet again with a fresh install of Windows XP. The card has been in all 3 of my PCI slots and it will detect it for a moment but then acts like as if the card was never installed. Like I never installed a sound card into the computer. The onboard audio has been disabled for a while now but I do not know what the problem could be. I did Scan for hardware changes but it doesn't show up. Sometimes when the card is detected if I do scan for hardware changes and the card is there it will just magically disappear from the device manager as if it was never there. Even when I try to load music and I see the card is detected it will not play the music and ends up locking up Winamp to the point that sometimes will go BSOD. Now I would really like to find out what the issue is because I am planning this weekend to swap out my motherboard with a duplicate board to see if that will end up fixing the problem but I want to find out if there is any other way to fix this issue. Thank you.Message Edited by AuXoIs on 02-25-200808:28 PM

Hmm what other options is there for the bios on PCI slots? Also anything you connect to the motherboard can have oxidization (I think its that) build up on the connection. Check the connector on the card and get a eraser (Pen eraser is better) and give it a good cleaning. The connector might have alot of build-up on it and you can see it by a dark yellowy colour. I cleaned my graphics card and ram connectors after they got alot of the build-up on them. On a older computer my graphics stopped working and this fixed it. Also I went away for a while (like a month) and came back to see that my puter didn't display anything. Opened it up and saw that the graphic card had alot of corrosion? on the card connector and in the slot. Does that if you computer is turned of for a long time. Had a heck of time trying to clean the slot out. One other thing that it could be is the sound card is faulty. I had an audigy 2 and it died a while back . It picks it up and then try and use it computer freezes and the after restart it's not there anymore. Hope it's not that problem. Hope this gives you something to go by.

<SPAN>My point in this project was to set up a surround sound system for my TV. To that point I bought RCA -> Stereo Mini plug and have my DVD plugged into the Line-in of the Li've! 24-bit sound card. After futzing about and finding the CMSS input I was able to get the rear channels enabled. My problem is that it Line-in seems to be ignoring the custom mix levels of the surround sound. Because of the proximity to the speaker while sitting on the couch, we set the Front(s) & Middle to 00% and the rear channels to ~45%. These settings are honored when playing MP3's, AVI's or DVD's from the computer; however, anything from the line-in ignores these custom percentages.
<SPAN>Am I missing something here or just mis-interpreting the way Line-in works. Is it driver related? Should I check the Drivers from the KXProject?
<SPAN>My current drivers are the "Creative Basic Audio Suite for Creative Sound Blaster audio devices" (35.59 MB) right off the downloads, dated 5 Jun 05. I never even tried the Driver CD that came with, I immediately upgraded to the newest.

With the set up you are doing you will not get true sound sound. Currently you are only getting a stereo signal from your DVD player. Ifyou put it into the Line-In on the speakers the audio will only come outof the front speakers. If you plug the DVD player into the Li've 24 Bit's Line-In again you really only are send a stereo signal to the sound card. However will CMSS enable it will upmix the stereo signal out to the other speaker as what it thinks is the rear and center audio but it is just simulated so depending on how the audio tracks are cut inthe movie then it may not sound the same as a true 5. surround sound. Now one thing you want to check is in Speaker Settings make sure the card is set to 5. not 7.. If you have it set to 7. the CMSS may try to send some of the audio to the side speaker and since you have a 5. system you may lose some of the upmix.
Now if you would like true 5. from your DVD Player you could hook the 6channel analog outputs to the speakers. However most likely you have a newer one that does not have the 6 channel analog but it should have a digital output of some type. If it does all you will need is something that will decode the 5. digital signal. With this you will get your true 5. surround sound from your 5. encoded movies. There is 2 thing you can get to do this ether you can get one of our Audigy 2 ZS PlatinumKits. The front dri've bay has connection for digital optical and coax connections. Another option is if you are not able to exchange the cards is get our DDTS-00 Dolby Digital Decoder.
    http://us.creative.com/products/prod...6&product=9468
I have one of these myself. This would connect between your sound card and the speakers. What you would then do is plug the DVD Player into the decoder box and it would decode the 5. signal and send it out to all your speaker with out you having to run the DVD Player to your computer. Also you can hook up your other audio devices to as well. This is what I use as the receiver in my living for my Entertainment Center. If you have any more questions let us know.

My son has been given the following PC games for christmas:-
    Command & Conquer 3,
Command & Conquer Red Alert 3,
    Arma; Armed Assault,
    Medal of Honour: Airborne
The problem he is having installing these 4 games is this. About half way through installation an error message appears that quite simply states "The software you are installing does not bear a WHQL signed driver. This software will not be installed".
The PC we are running is a Dell Dimension 900, that we purchased about 4 years ago, and it was bespoke.
I have run DxDiagnostics and it tells me that the driver for the graphics card is called p7.sys and the sound card are not WHQL logo'd, so how the hell do i download a driver for my soundblaster Li've 24 bit, that does? bear a digital signatre that is WHQL Logo'd. I hope you can help, me please.

Re: Help I need to locate a driver for my soundblaster li've 24 bit soundcard? I guess you and your son are currently using windows xp. Well, what you can do is now is ignoring the WQHL pop-up window and choose the "install anyway" option during the installation of the soundcard driver, since WQHL only means the driver is tested by Microsoft and nothing more; drivers without the WQHL qualification does not mean they are bad drivers, they usually works as good as the WQHL ones.
Ofcourse you can also download the official drivers for the mentioned Soundblaster li've 24bit at Creative Labs support/download site.
    here is it:
    [url="http://uk.europe.creative.com/support/downloads/download2.asp?MainCategory=&Product=035&dlcentric= 025&Product_Name=Li've%2+24-bit&filetype=&OSName=Windows+XP">Creative Sound Blaster Audigy Value/SE/LS and Sound Blaster Li've! 24-bit XP and Windows Vista Pack .04.0077 (63.39 MB)?[/url]
The driver is for all Soundblaster Audigy Value, SE, LS and Soundblaster Li've 24bit, since they are all based on the CA-006 soundchip (with other words Creative Labs renamed the soundcard several times). Also this driver should be WQHL-ed (if not, choose "install anyway" option during installation of the soundcard driver). Make sure you have uninstalled the older driver before installing the new one. For troubleshooting use utilies like "Driver Cleaner" or "Driver Sweeper" (google for Guru3D and go to the site and their download section to get the utilities/tools) to clean up the junk files of the older driver that are left in the Windows OS.
    Good luck and Merry Christmas!!!

I see the SB Li've 24-Bit has a miniplug coaxial digital I/O. I was wondering, if i were to connect a coaxial output carrying stereo audio to this jack, what sampling rate will it record at (if it is even possible)? Is it 24-bit/96kHz like the audigy series?
    Thanks,
    Chris

I am fairly confident it CAN record digital stereo audio through its minplug SPDIF jack. Since it supports the Creative Digital I/O Module (which supplies coax and toslink input/output) it seems like it must be capable of acting as an input. Now, anyone know the sampling rate?Message Edited by cmp223 on 04-04-2005 03:0 AM
