Audigy midi sync tempo is

Hi,
I have audigy zs 2. I'm using Nuendo as midi master and I'm trying to sync other software to its midi clock.
There are 2 issues:
-I cannot seem to be able to transmit midi clock and mtc through the standard audigy midi port
-Using Midi Yoke ports causes the tempo to fluctuate
When setting up Nuendo to send sync messages through the "SB Audigy 2 ZS Midi IO [B800]" port
Other software does not pick up these messages and will not sync.
So it seems this port does not support this.
When using one of the Midi Yoke ports (Virtual midi cable), the following happens.
Pressing play on Nuendo will start a sync with Vaz or Guitarrig. You see they start to play.
However, the tempo on the slave program is erratic and fluctuates like hell. Especially when the slave has a delay synched, it cause audio click due to the constant corrections that need to be made to adjust to the fluctuating speed.
If master tempo is 3 BPM, the slave will have speeds of 30-36, changing some 0 times each second.
I think this latter issue with the fluctuating speed, might be due to the (outdated?) Midi Yoke driver.
But the fact that I can't send midi clock through the standard SB midi port, is worrying me more.
I get the same results when I use another sequencer as master.
It doesn't seem to matter what slave software is used, they all exhibit this erratic tempo behavior.
- So, what causes these tempo fluctuations and what should I do to stabilize that?
- If the standard Audigy midi port IS capable of sending sync messages, then how should I configure it (and where). And, once correctly set up, will my tempo be constant?
If there are no solutions, then I'm sure there are workarounds.

Alex,
I would say give it time, there may not be many users that have used the particular applications you have, that could help.
If you don't get a response, then it may be worth sending a mail to Customer Support, to log the problem and see if they can advise anything. We don't test every third party application out there, so they may not be able to advise on specific applications you're using.

Audio/MIDI Sync Errors

After working perfectly for months, I now am getting audio MIDI Sync error messages. The result is no audio output either from audio instruments or recorded audio. I am using a MOTU 896HD and audio thru itunes works as long as Logic is not running at the same time. If I switch to built in audio it seems to play back fine.

There's a few posts on this over at the Sonikmatter forums.
Two things were recommended.
Toggle the internal clock to ADAT then back to internal.
If that doesn't help, unplug the unit (electricity and firewire) then toggle the voltage selector switch, (putting it back to there it was of course).
After doing this, flip the clock to ADAT then back to internal.
The idea is to reset the unit.
Post back if this works...

MOTU 828MK2 picking up MIDI sync noise from Emagic AMT8???

Probably not an actual Logic problem, as it happens anytime an audio application 'initializes' and contacts my AMT8, but since theres no forum for the AMT8 Apple swallowed up from Emagic, and the drivers only come with Logic, figured I would ask here..
So recently Ive noticed my MOTU 828MK2 picks up the digital noise whenever I send MIDI sync to my AMT8 MIDI interface. If I sync just the MOTU's built in MIDI ports, nada nothing its dead quiet.. The minute sync goes to any port on the AMT8, theres that clock noise coming into my monitors (thankfully it doesnt go into Logic).. Ive checked the back of my desk and nothing is anywhere remotely close to my monitors cabling, the AMT8 is rackmounted literally right under the Furman power strip its plugged into and the adaptor is all by itself sitting right underneath. Tried a new USB cable plugged into different ports even, still picking up that noise.
It has not always been like this, Ive just noticed this behavior within the last few months so Im not sure where to go from here.. If anyone has any ideas of what to look at it Id be much obliged..
HW specs if it matters:
Mac Pro 1,1/OS 10.7.5/Logic 9.1.8
MOTU 828MK2 (Firewire)
AMT8 (USB)
All using the current drivers and latest versions of whatever they need to..

Have you tried initializing the 828MK2?
What's plugged into the AMT8? Have you tried removing MIDI cables one by one and testing?

I had an iPod Classic 5th Gen that I upgraded from 30gb to 80gb. The problem I'm having is that it will not more than about 5.4gb worth of songs. The iPod begins to freeze mid sync and the (-69) error message haults the sync.

The hard drive has been upgraded, it has a new logicboard (with 128mb RAM), new housing, battery, hold / headphone jack. Basically the only original parts are the bezel, click wheel, screen, and data ribbons. Have attempted the 3Rs and have also tried to isolate potentially corrupt audio files and remove them, but this did not seem to be the primary cause. The sync failure consistently happens at just under a 1000 songs (5.4gb) and then it starts to error (-69) any song after that. Your advise would be enthusiastically received.

Here is what worked for me:
My usb hub, being usb2, was too fast. I moved the wire to a usb port directory on my pc. That is a usb1 port which is slow enough to run your snyc.

Preferences > Midi > Sync >MIDI sync project settings
General Default:
Frame Rate 25 fps
Check auto detect format of MTC
Default required:
Set frame rate to 29.97fps
check 'auto detect format of MTC'
check Enable Separate SMPTE View Offset
MDI Default is:
MTC and MMC all unchecked
Default required:
Check 'Transmit MTC'
Check 'Transmit MMC'
Check 'Listen to MMC Input'

No, that's not what I typed above.
The rule is... Preferences are Global, changes made in Preferences affect all Projects.
"Settings" are on a per song basis.
In Logic 9 (and I imagine in X as well) there are two main areas to configure Logic.
1. Is Preferences    Preferences settings are global and affect all projects.
2. Is Settings          Settings are set for each project, they are not global
You typed: Preferences > Midi > Sync >MIDI sync project settings
See what is says, MIDI Sync Project Settings.
Preferences has forwarded you into the Settings area so no, the MIDI Sync options are not global, they have to be adjusted for each song, that's why I suggested setting up templates of your most used project setups.

Apple TV disappearing from iTunes in mid-sync (completely repeatable)

Just in the past week, my Apple TV and iTunes aren't talking very well anymore.
When I start up iTunes, it finds the AppleTV and tries to sync the latest TV show episodes I bought. It gets about 1 and a half episodes in to the sync, then suddenly the AppleTV disappears out of my iTunes and the sync stops.
If I try to view the TV episodes on the Apple TV, it says "The selected video could not be played. The format was not recognized." (clearly, it really did stop in mid-sync).
If I restart iTunes, it still doesn't find Apple TV. I have to reboot my MacBook Pro, then start iTunes again. Then it finds the AppleTV and syncs for about 5 minutes again, then quits...
Completely repeatable and very frustrating. Nothing (movies, music, TV shows) can sync properly if it takes more than 5 minutes to sync. No other issues (can watch trailers and YouTube just fine from AppleTV, nothing else stops working on MacBook).
All software is completely up to date at the latest version;
Any suggestions?

Thanks for you help and suggestions. Unfortunately, I tried all that a couple times ...
- tried "Change iTunes Library" from the source menu and entered new passcode (it appeared in itunes for one minute, then dissapeared again) - tried that quite a few times
- tried changing the name of my aTV
- tried ethernet instead of wireless
- did a factory restore (thinking maybe it was the youtube update)
- started it all from scratch (like i just bought the thing)
It only occurred to me, after reading Ramiro's post, that these issues appeared after the 7.3.2 update; i was smooth sailing beforehand.
keep in mind that i'm a little paranoid when it comes to installing software so i always "fsck -fy" and fix permissions before and after.
After smacking my head a few times, I rolled back to 7.2 and everything works like it used to.
The only thing I'm certain about is that I'm gonna check this forum before I update to 7.3.3. What a headache that was.

ITunes freezes mid sync

I have Windows Vista and the iPhone 3g. I updated to iTunes 10.1.2 yesterday after it had been installed I tried to sync my iTunes to my iPhone, but the everytime I try to do this it stops mid sync. It starts normal and throughout the whole process my phone says that it is syncing but during step 3/5 it freezes in the same spot and won't finish the sync. I have to unplug my phone and close out iTunes. I'm getting super frusterated so if anyone has any idea what's going on please let me know.
I also ran a diagnostics sync test and it came back normal so I'm assuming this isn't a syncing issue as much as it is an iTunes issue.

Can you see what step 3 exactly is? If you watch closely, iTunes mentions the steps underneath the progress bar.
My steps are 1st backup, 2nd contacts, calendars, bookmarks, notes, 3rd apps from and to the computer, 4th was too fast, couldn't read what it said, and finally photos as step 5.
So, there must be something going wrong during the app sync. Did you check your restrictions on the phone, to make sure installing apps or removing them is not restricted?

Cant download itunes and phone stuck mid sync

My Iphone was disconnected mid sync today thanks to a bit of a dash and a 7 year old kid so everytime i turn the thing on all i get is the Itunes connect screen with the USB cable saying connect to Itunes.
I thought i would get to my partners laptop when i was able to, download Itunes and fix it but now everytime i try to download Itunes i have this message on the Itunes screen "Apologies but there has been an unexpected error with this application. This problem has been noted, and an email has been sent to the administrators. Please check back in a few hours and try to download again" Its been like this for a while now,
Is there any way that i can get my phone up and running or do i need to wait to get an Itunes then finish the update? Im guessing my phone is stuck mid operating system update!!

MIDI Sync

Hi Everyone,
Does any version of Garageband support MIDI timecode synchronization, where Garageband is the so-called "slave"? I have a digital audio workstation that sends a timecode, and I would like Garageband to start/stop in sync with the workstation. Before I purchase the necessary MIDI equipment, I'd like to know if I can sync everything together. I would really appreciate any advice.

GarageBand doesn't output MIDI signals to hardware, unless you use the MidiO plugin, but I don't know if that outputs MIDI time code. Internally, the plug-ins seem to be able to use the host tempo.
However, GarageBand is most likely not going to listen to external tempo information, as it has a fixed tempo for each song. It might listen to the start/stop commands, but I cannot find any information...

Is anybody else getting external MIDI clock tempo issues using Logic Pro 9 and OSX Lion 10.7.5?

I am having really serious tempo issues when sending midi clock to any external device - The tempo wavers and alternates around 5 bpm above and below the tempo set, and to be frank is totally unuasable when trying to clock arps from hardware synths.
I have the problem both with Logic and Ableton LE, as well as through both my MOTU Ultralite and Focusrite Liquid Sapphire 56 interfaces. I am therefore presuming this is a MIDI issue with the actual computer (MacBook pro, bought new last september).
I moved to Mac from PC, so I'm not totally up to scratch with the Mac architecture yet - can anybody shed any light on why this is happening? It's driving me mad!

Yes.. I do see the occasional minor variations much like yourself when I sync up to my Oasys or more usually the Motif... to a fair sized and complicated project,,. Maybe +/- 1.. or on rare occasions +/- 2 bpm... but nothing close to the OP's +/- 5 bpm experiences...
It actually got better for me when I installed 10.8.x... along with the newest Motu drivers.. and in fact I can't remember the last time I had any unworkable issues with syncing though admittedly I haven't done that much syncing recently.
I do have a project coming up in the next 10 days.. that will require me to use the Oasys synced to Logic so I'll make a note of any issues i have and post back if any occur.
As an aside, I have recently been doing a lot of work with iPad Instruments and Arp Apps and Logic... and the sync as been rock solid over USB...

How to get exs sequences to sync tempo?

I have some EXS sequencer / arpeggiator sounds up, but they are not matching / syncing to the bpm of my project. Specifically, it is a piece in 12/8 and I need the EXS sounds to match the triplet feel.
Any ideas as to how to sync EXS to my tempo?

Unfortunately apple don't seem to give you an option to sync from iphone to outlook... as when you do it for the first time, it will sync outlook->iphone one way. And if you don't have any contacts in your outlook, your existing ones on the iphone will be deleted.
This happened to me, but lucky me I had a backup.

My ipod touch 3rd gen fails to restore and disconnects its self mid sync. How can I fix that?

Its really annoying. Idk what happened to make it act this way, (i'm thinking the recent update for iOS 4.3)
First, it connects normally and says that there's an update for the ipod. I download it and let it install, then for some reason while starting back up, it failed. I guess it lost its connection or something but mid restart the progress bar stopped at no more than a sixth and stays there till I disconnect it physically and retry the prossess. I tried that for 3 hours, but it always failed, so I connected it to my other computer and it restarted properly with the new iOS. I tried connecting it to my main computer (with all the music and apps) and tried restoring it with all my apps and photos and things, but it failed once again like when restarting. Every time it connects, it automatically syncs like it normally should, but it doesn't sync properly and complains that the ipod is disconnected when it is clearly connected.
Currently, I don't have any of my apps on it, I only have 2 gb of music on it, and it doesn't sync what so ever. I click and drag a playlist or app to sync, says that its doing it, but then stops after 5 seconds without doing a thing saying "its ok to disconnect". Its really annoying me. Help please??
(btw. I don't think its the cable because it did work with the other computer)

Audio midi sync error in logic and other apps

hey everybody,
after a system update, all my audio apps freakout when they have to playback midi channels. audio tracks work perfectly in all apps i use but using midi just clips the cpu meter all the way. in live for example which i use 100% midi, droputs and digital distortion will occur alsmost as soon as i press play. in logic it will take a few more seconds until the audio sync error appears asking me to check external devices. the thing is, although i usually output to my mbox 2, i have disconnected everything i use and have been trying it with the built in outputs and it's still happening.
please note all of this was not happening before the update and the exact same projects played back fine before. i'm positive it's something to do with midi. for example ableton live has been creating text files to its preferences folder titled midijitter etc. etc.

I have the same problem. The problem happened after a system update (few days ago). I don't know which update caused this.(I updated several applications )
I re-installed Mac OS. I updated everything that the system updater suggested. And finally I tested with my applications. The problem still continues:
Sibelius, Pro Tools (and other applications using midi) can't play midi files correctly.
I also tested Quicktime; It can't play midi files correctly.

Error while trying to synchronize Audio and MIDI across tempo change

Audio was recorded through a Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 before GB updated itself. Now any audio file that runs across a tempo change automation is painfully distorted and throws this error (With assorted different sample rates depending on when GB decides to throw up a dialogue box.)
I've tried switching the output back to core audio but that isn't helping.
Am I going to have to rerecord all these parts of audio or is there some way to make GB remember what it was doing with its sample rates?
This is on OSX 10.9.5 on a retina MBP, Garageband 10.0.3. It was working fine before the update.

Logic Sputtering, CPU spiking horribly for no apparent reason, gives MIDI sync error even though the computer is set at the same sample rate.

It's literally making it impossible for me to produce anything, after what seems an arbitrary amount of time in Logic my audio will begin to distort and I will get errors stating that my MIDI sample rates don't match, but they DO and it will spit out some seemingly random sample rate from nowhere. My CPU usage will spike and even my cursor will jitter across the screen until it stops stuttering. The audio problem seems to only be caused by Logic but will sometimes continue to occur in other applications after Logic is closed.
How on earth do I fix this? It's making it impossible for me to work on remixes that I have to have finished soon, I have deadlines and I simply can't work in these conditions... the audio doesn't work.

That sample rate error comes up when Logic gets out of sync internally, you will sometimes also see a MIDI/Audio sync error. MIDI timing is taken from the audio driver/sample rate, it's what enables MIDI to stay in sync with audio, when the audio/MIDI engines get out of whack these are the kind of errors that pop up. (there doesn't have to be any MIDI in the song) Can be caused by bad drivers, interference from another running program, synchronization settings, bad or incompatible plugins!
